I am stationed in Japan and I have been with AU Kddi for approximately 4yrs now. When I heard the announce that they would finally carry a "smart" phone I was excited. I went in and purchased the E30HT if I am not mistaken it is similar to the HTC Touch Pro in the states. My problem is this: Most of the options are in Japanese. I am not familar enough with the language to take advantage of all the phone's features. Is there a way to convert the OS to English or is it a rom or procedure out to convert the phone to English. I appreciate all help given.

I also purchased the AU E30HT, tried every HARD-SPL available here and PPGeeks and still can't break it. Luckly I haven't bricked it yet. Took it to Thailand and even the techs there couldn't flash an english ROM on it. Seems the software hasn't been developed yet. I am waiting and hoping someone with more knowledge than I picks it up to play with. If we could get enough folks together maybe we could contribute enough to entice someone. Never give up.

yup, i know how you guys feel. my wife got one for me from japan, and have had endless trouble. its such a slick phone but its totally useless for me.
here in the phils there's not much that phone techs can't do, but it seems they've met their match in this phone.

As clone has nothing in common with original Iolite, nobody here will probably help you with that. You must check clone's manufacturer website.
English ROM
Please do not listen to these people. This phone is strongly supported although not officially. I personal bought everyone in my family this phone as it is of high quality and faster than the original.

This phone may be supported somewhere, but not here. We talk about htc devices, and clones are like Palm/Motorola/LG, they share nothing with HTC devices, except the look. They require specific software (for cooking), and specific methods (soft reset, flashing, hard reset...). How can we help people if we are supporting devices regardless of if they are originals or clones? Even worse, there are even different clones of the same device (T4242+, T4288...), and roms are incompatible between them!
AFAIK, information about clones here are only for the people who buy these clones instead of the original, thinking they are buying the original...
Clones may be good if you know what you are buying, but people buying clones thinking they are buying originals ARE ripped off, nothing else. This is illegal for that reason, selling someone something as being something else. Remove the HTC branding in the announcement (on ebay for instance...), i am ok with it. But i spotted several listings for "HTC T4242" which were instead for "HTY T4242+" or "T4288". This is not good.
And please don't say it is faster. Processor is not everything you know... Clones have half the ram, half the rom...
And finally, what will happen if you have an issue with it? When you buy a device, you also buy support. Buy clones without support (THIS is support, when your device break, you can make it repaired) if you want, but don't advise people to do the same without giving them all the information.
T4242 quality
Look, the argument can go either way. I have personally had this phone for months and purchased many for family and also recommend them. To answer your question, they are not the same. This one has a faster more expensive processor for half the price and I have found that they perform faster. The quality is great. As far as support, there is a community to offer ROM's and warez sites for any software including GPS. As for warranty, cell phones have a life of about 2-3yrs tops. These phones are half the price and perform perfectly. So if you are worried, buy a second one as a back up and you will still be ahead of the original.
FYI: The batteries are exactly the same, so is the charger, and casing so all accessories will work except audio related headphones etc. They actually ship with 2 batteries and 2 stylus's and wall charger and decent headphones. Batteries are $5USD with shipping on eBay and so is the charger. Buy a bluetooth headset and forget about the plug in.
Please understand that there are people on this forum who paid good money, over double for a device which does not have the same specs, ships with half the accessories (batteries) and paid for twice the price. I would be bitter too. These phones are made by Hantel, which is part of a large cellphone manufacture CECT. I have purchased thier phone for 3 years and no problem. I have owned P168, Daxian x999+, HTY Q5 and all high quality.
This one is the best bang for your buck in my opinion.
jaygreene24: Clones might be good, but they still are and will be clones and have nothing in common with original. Just deal with it. But do not ask, how it is possible that kitchens, SPLs and so on are not working for them... Btw. You really think that your clone is faster than mine custom cooked original? I don't think so...

This is an English wm6.1 rom that I got from a seller in China. Although its wm6.1 at least it is in english..

I seem to have inadvertently got hold of one of these... Sorry but the build quality isn't a fraction of HTC's. Anyways it seems like I'd better make the best of a bad situation. In the process of trying to flash the rom I appear to have frozen windows so now I can't access anything on the home screen.
Now - I'm vaguely aware of how to do this sd card flashing business but can someone fill me in? I've figured out how to access the usb update mode but nothing beyond that. Failing that, a hardware hard reset would also be great if I could get the button combination - if there is one lol

hard reset turns out to be - middle circle including outside and inside buttons + red button. Now to get a decent rom to flash
I flashed my T4242+ clone with an english 6.5 rom; works perfectly, wheel and buttons included.
If you want to modify the user interface, add a nice plugin, like Iphonetoday ( there are others, too ), and there is not much left I might need.
I'm at a bit of a stand still at this point. I first bought a Nexus 5x, but that ended up with dead pixels within a week. 5x's are so old now, I just don't know which merchants I can trust buying them from. I don't really want a phone that's going to last only a month or two when buying it supposedly new. It said new, but I'm more inclined to think used and old and sort of refurbished is more accurate. I mean, it looked new, but so does every barely refurbished breaks down in a month product.
So, I thought I'd get the Motorola Moto G7. It's a new phone. LineageOS has a custom rom for it. It's within my price range. It has better hardware than the Nexus 5x. I had my mind made up and everything, but now I'm reading that it may be more hassle than it's worth because as far as I can tell Motorola doesn't even provide stock roms for G7. I was also reading in some forum that Motorola has their own fastboot version for their phones? Judging by my adventure with the Nexus 5x, and it was a fun adventure, I may need to flash the appropriate stock rom before I can even install LineageOS to the G7. Also, Motorola likes to threaten that the warranty is nullified by unlocking the bootloader. So, now I'm thinking why do I want to spend $200 on a maybe might work, maybe might not be able to get my money back.
That was my first thing, LineageOS on the Nexus 5x. I'm not stuck on LineageOS, by the way. I'm willing to install anything else pretty much. LineageOS was just the most simple one, so I figured it was a good learning tool for me to try first.
So now, I don't know what to do.
Can you all give me some "yeah, this phone is great for custom rom type things" type of list or something?
My ideal is $0 to around $200, but if I need to go for that $400+ range to get phones that are more or less great for custom roms type of stuff, then I am willing to go up there.
So, when I was having this adventure with the Nexus 5x, I discovered, and correct me if I'm wrong, that Nexus 5x must be one of the best smartphones for custom roms things. Google provides the stock roms and simple fastboot flashing commands for any mistakes you make, and the phone just never really gave me problems when I was trying to learn how to do everything. Really. the tutorials were much worse than the phone itself. It was really really simple, and the tutorials all make it look really really hard. Of course some of that was inaccurate information, which again, with the 5x it wasn't a difficult matter to figure out that a tutorial is saying something inaccurate.
I realize every phone will have its own level of difficulty and learning curve. I'm looking for smart phones that do in fact work that most who do this stuff seem to like using. I will be buying the carrier-unlocked version of whichever phone I buy, as those seem to be the ones that manufacturers let us unlock the bootloader of.

The Android one project is really a scam at this point its may and still have a very buggy version of Android 10 that way delivered in April, the OLED is a good pannel but the resolution isn't the best ,the battery is good tho, I would recommend you to look for another device.
For the bad, honestly, it's the bugs. If you don't mind the bugs, most of them can be worked around without root. But the android 10 update has solved quite a few of them.
The fingerprint scanner can be really annoying sometimes, but it requires muscle memory. Push harder than the fingerprint you recorded and it won't recognize it.
The screen is OK. I don't really care for the dpi. It's perfectly sharp for average use.
Now the good.
Battery life is AMAZING. I consistently get over 12 hours of SOT, rarely less than 10.
The camera is very, very, very good. Pictures are just incredibly nice for this price range.
And the price. Really.
If you want an amazing battery life, buy it. No other phone I know in this price range has this battery life.
If you have ~160€ I think this is the best you can find for that price. If you don't have more money to spare, sure go for it. And know you'll have to workaround some bugs.
If you can get a little more money, get other phone.
If you don't wanna workaround the bugs, maybe check the Redmi note 8, but know the battery life ain't as good.

The only thing that I have been bothering me it is the amount of bugs with Android 10, Xiaomi solved one of them, but for me it is really anoying.
I was prefer wait three or four months more for Android 10, but without bugs.

It is a great phone overall. What are the other alternatives? I got mine on nice sale. I personally wanted these specifications, so i got it.
NFC was maybe the only compromise. What else you can get?
- Huawei nova 5t? it may be better, was not released when i bought my phone, ot it was pricier, not sure. + have NFC
- Samsung Galaxy a30s- my girlfriend have that, the camera is not better, i even think it is worse, the battery may be better, her phone can hold some juice for a long time, like 2 days+, but you can do it with mi a3 also, the display is the same, exactly the same, but my fingerprint is faster( you does not need to hold it long or to press hard like that guy told you, even sometimes it is that fast, when i am lifting it from table or take it out of my pocket and slightly touching the sensor area it just unlock), also you can't find really that much customisation. But you will have NFC.
Don't buy Xioami, to be honest, their customer service is so bad it's remarkable they are still in business. Get out the no account authorization issue they have, you have to buy black-market support to fix any issue. 0/10 for support, stay far.

So it's better to play "black market" to be able to unlock your bootloader (Nokia) or that you can't unblock it at all (Huawei) or that it screws up your phone (Sony DRM, Samsung KNOX)? Don't be ridiculous, playing with bootloader and system has some risks, if you're not ready to eventually pay for your mistakes, keep your phone in stock state. Phone manufacturer has nothing to do with it.

As far as i see you had a problem with the phone and you ended in a bootloop, that you had a problem it's your fault, in fact, if I'm not mistaken, they are the only company that allows unlocking, that's why there are so many developers..
That's one of the cheapest phones for the specs!

Again, I am not a modder/ hacker I did not mod my device. I did an OTA update and it went into boot loop ever since.
Check the MI forums this is not an edge case, Xiaomi have buggy OS updates that will kill your device (eg. Just like mine, check MI website hundreds, if not thousands of people have this issue and the only fix is to fly to China)

Overall I would not buy, nor recommend a Xiaomi, I don't trust the brand. But hey that's my opinion, You had a better experience so at least you're lucky.

Sorry, misunderstood your post. If it's still in stock state, you should apply for a warranty repair. Or pay a small fee for a 3rd party service and they'll do it remotely. In both cases I don't understand why you waited 5 months.. [emoji846] These things are unfortunate, but they happen sometimes, just like HW failures.

Yes, they are cheap and other offer unlocking also, I m just giving a review of my experience. I am not a modder, I don't unlock or mod, root anything last time I did so was LG G4. I just a vanilla android phone user that ACCEPTED an official OTA update and ever since I haven't gotten to use the device and I was told support to fix is only in China.
Again that's my experience if you had a better one congrats.

Yes, I tried to fix it from day one but ran into the no authorization issue. I bought off Amazon where they said the warranty has passed. I will decide soon enough if I should fix, either way, I have moved.
After seeing this amount of negative reviews, I am just going to pass this device. Maybe I will go for Motorola, since they provide update regularly and bootloader unlock is available too. So I will go for Motorola. Thank you all, for let me know your suggestions.
I have T-Mobile but just moved to Mexico. To make a long story short my Trust was embezzled. I can't get things done without a good device. I don't speak fluent Spanish so it's important I have Google's keyboard that translates, WhatsApp, at least a 6.7 screen IP68, 13gb ram. I would like two sim slots so I can get a carrier in Mexico. I have a OnePlus 8 pro. Battery won't hold a charge. I lived Huawei pros and the old N95, HTC, I like a good device but can't spend more than $700 or so. I don't have time to research. I'm trying to get my house done and sell my old one and I have heart disease. Anyone?
