Hi Guys!
Following Question. I got myself a new Galaxy Tab S3 and realized somehow, that i got a massiv Battery Drain. For examlple today after i finished charging i didnt used it for couple of hours and leaved it idle and locked. After 2 or maybe 3 hours i saw that the battery lost abt 6 or 7 percent. Does anyone saw some similar problem? I already tried wiping the cache.
What should i do in that case?

Does the Wifi usually drains that much??
For some reason it does on this tablet. Tried freezing apps, greenify, and naptime with same issue

Battery life is great as far as SOT, stupid tablet just doesn't enter sleep unless you turn off wifi. Hopefully a future update will come out that fixes this or we'll see some custom roms that have this issue resolved.

Odd. I use my tablet for media consumption and I have to charge my tablet every week & a half. I usually have it streaming videos around 75 minutes 5 to 6 days a week, so the really quick rough math is around 8 or so hours of SOT.

I experience large battery drain by wifi in sleep as well. After two/three days of idle tablet won't even power up until I plug it into the charger. Turning wifi off before putting tablet to sleep helps, but's really annoying. One would expect Samsung would fix this ASAP.
I take my earlier comment back, aqdc still has the wifi drain bug, very annoying. Also, the new ipad pro makes this look like a joke. We need an 8895 in this tab not useless qualcomm chips.
Latest AQF3 still has the bug, I guess it's time to give up on this tablet and just use my S8+ for everything. Samsung support thread in case in anyone wants to vent:

Tried to find the root cause using wakelock detector and greenify, didn't yield much. The problem is likely at the system firmware/wifi driver level. I suggest all folks start returning their S3s , teach Samsung a lesson.
AQF5 build came out today for Korea, trying that now. The way they are increasing the build numbers, hopefully they are actually fixing something. Interestingly this had a modem file too though the SM-T820 is wifi only.
http://updato.com/firmware-archive-s...3AFA163EE8F90B
No dice still with AQF5 KOO firmware today, I officially give up. Likely a hw issue , only reason they have not addressed it across 6 firmware updates. Too bad since the tablet is very decent otherwise. Unlikely this will ever get fixed at this point since this is not a Note 7 type headline grabber. Time to find an used S2 to replace the one I sold or wait on something else.My S3 is going back tomorrow.
SOLUTION for SAMSUNG S3 TAB
go to SETTINGS - CONNECTIONS - in the right top corner click on ADVANCED. click on to "KEEP WIFI ON DURING SLEEP" and select NEVER.
I was pulling my hair out as my tablet was running out of battery unless I manually switched off wifi. Hope this helps.

Oled display`s use a huge amount of power when showing white/light screens, oled is best for video(supposedly use less power than lcd)
Buy an lcd display tablet if you do a lot of writing/drawing.

Possible Resolution to battery Drain Issue
I called Samsung Support and they helped me to change the wifi sleep policy from "never" to "when screen turns off". This resulted in using up less than 10% of my battery last night from 11PM to 7AM.
Action Taken:
1. Settings
2. Wireless and Network
3. Wifi Settings
4. Click Menu Button (next to Home Button) and Select Advanced
5. Select Wi-Fi sleep policy
6. Change it from "Never" to either "Never when plugged in" or "When Screen turns off".
7. One person reported success rebooting their phone after making these changes. For me I did not have to reboot.
I also thought that this may increase my hspa+ data usage, but it was hardly noticeable last night.
Yea...you're actually getting terrible battery life smarty pants

This happens with custom roms too. It is the wifi bug that Entropy512 noted in the other thread.
I'm getting around 20 hours on unnamed ROM with the mentioned wifi sleep policy setting. Is this good? I read my rss feeds like 5-6 times a day, make about 1 hour of phone calls, read autoguide forums like 5-6 times as well. I think it's ok?

You can safely ignore this incorrect advice.
If you notice a sudden drop like that, just forget about it and carry on enjoying your phone. You'll then notice a gradual increase in reported battery level.

I'd just like to say you're both right. Calibrating your battery will help, but if this does happen again just ignore it. Your battery level will go back up. Just find the nearest iFan and tell them your phone charges itself

No, what you are saying is not correct. If you think you are correct, please show me the interface in the fuel gauge driver that is used to load history data into the fuel gauge chip.
I guarantee you that you will not find any such interface.
Our fuel gauge (MAX17042) does NOT need calibration - see the datasheet for its predecessor, the MAX17040. While the 17042 has some features that, if enabled, could require calibration cycles, these features are NOT enabled in any Gingerbread kernel, and at least one person received correspondence from Samsung that the GS2 does not even have the required hardware support for these extended features.
http://www.maxim-ic.com/datasheet/index.mvp/id/6621
"Unlike traditional fuel gauges, the ModelGauge algorithm eliminates the need for battery relearn cycles and an external current-sense resistor"
There is no need to EVER perform any sort of battery calibration technique on our fuel gauge, other than this simple technique:
WAIT - your state of charge estimate will converge towards truth over time if anything throws it off. Rebooting on low battery is one of the few known cases where the estimate gets thrown off temporarily, and the tradeoff for having this one corner case is that we never need to calibrate our fuel gauge.
Edit: FYI, if you want to be pedantic - I am fully aware that the MAX17042 functionality is built into the MAX8997, just like the MAX17040 functionality of the Galaxy S series was built into the MAX8998. However it's well documented that this built-in function is identical to standalone 17040/17042 ICs.
bad news i'm affraid..
Hello chiefs,
I'm affraid i have some bad news for the OP and others who are facing this issue.
I had it as well (and still do from what the looks of it) and it got so bad eventually that i had to send it to the shop. they replaced the headset (donno what that has to do with anything) and it has worked for a while, until tonight. i have no clue what's going on but if this keeps up i'm gonna see if i can replace this for another phone. it's getting really annoying up in hea'..
Just my two cents..
This is another bothering issue that I find with GS2.
I would rather have a phone that needs callibration instead of a phone that doesn't but that shows "false" information regarding the battery charge.
greatly improved battery life with ICS
I updated to the leaked Samsung ICS LPH ROM and got as much as 21 hours of battery life! So give it a try or wait till Samsung officially releases ICS on 15the March.
I've searched everywhere and it seems there is no real fix for this. WTF.
And the most annoying thing is that when I'm below 15% (which I'm NOT), it won't let me use the stock camera app. Ugh.

Hmm. You said you "always charge your battery from dead flat" before. That made it sound like you were doing it on purpose. But I digress.
Also, you should have no problems having the battery go the full day, (I can go the full day no problem - unless I'm constantly using the phone) unless you have something holding a wake lock. Have you installed BetterBatteryStats and monitored your wake locks to see if something is misbehaving?
Yes I have wakelock issues, But last time I tried to give starts thier was an issue with how I submitted it from the phone.
Anyway I sleep very little, and my phone is almost ALWAYS on the lack of a "proper job" means I don't have an 8 hour period of time where my phone isn't getting much use.
Do NOT worry its normal the triangle appeared because your battery has totally finished just Wait for 2 minutes and the triangle will disappear

Well, you should focus on solving those, and your battery life will improve.
Otherwise, my only other advice is to simply have more chargers readily available. I keep one at my office, a car charger each in my car and my girlfriend's car, and a couple at home.

That does look pretty bad. What is your details under display? (screen on time)
EDIT to add: actually, your screen looks like it might be on for a long time? (solid blue line under battery graph, starting under the "m" in 4h 56m 15s on battery text) If your screen on time is around 3.75 - 4 hours, this is normal.
To get a better gauge, post screenshots after you click both the battery graph above, (which will show signal, wifi, screen on, awake, and charging graphs as well) and the Screen entry. (to show screen on time)

chamonix's reply suggests you try a different modem, essentially. He's saying that in the dump you posted, RILJ held a 3.5 hour wake lock, which is unusually long. Could be that the modem you have flashed right now was struggling to find signal, so it was holding a wake lock.
Have you tried flashing a different modem yet?

Depends on what you want to look at.
But you're saying the screenshot above is a week old, and the BBS dump you linked to is clearly months old (from Feb 17), so maybe it's worth it to post more recent screen shots and dumps? Otherwise, can you honestly say you've not changed ANYTHING on your phone since either the screenshot or dumps were taken?
No one can tell you anything about how your phone is behaving today using information that is outdated.
The screenshot nothing has changed since then, I have changed things since the dump.
Well I want to kind out why my phone is awake when my it should be sleeping I supppose.
That screenshot their was a day when I woke up and used the device for an hour or so, and then I hadn't used the phone till about 12 hours later.
As you can see the phone kept waking up most of the day.
The info on Android OS for that screen shot was CPU Total 1h 6m, Kept Awake 4H 9m
I see that the major cause of battery usage is the WiFi, exactly like it was on WW28, the worrying thing is that I also spotted that during the night, the Prime lost 2%, even though all stuff was turned off with the Prime in sleep
All Sync, WiFi and all the things that could use WiFi are turned off and all "checks" are set in settings that could be checked/unchecked.
On WW28 and using the modded prop, I never lost a % during night.. so maybe the only way to have it working good again is to have a new prop suitable for the JB (I asked in the proper thread in Dev. forum)
Any other experiencing battery drain with JB? And especially a higher WiFi battery usage again?

The difference might be explained by the fact that if you use more "brightness" than I do, then the percentage of what screen and wifi use may vary.
My screen brightness is 20% then my value for screen is lower than yours and the battery higher, because that's the proportional values.. I think.
That's the best part, the tablet is usually 1-25% brightness the majority of the time. Prior to JB, similar usage would have wifi taking close to or above 2-1 ratio. <3 this update
I've found that I've got about 5% increase in battery life. There are new Power Saver section in settings so you might want to mess with those and see if it helps. From what I've seen it's really only to turn stuff off at a user defined power %. Still, check it out.

Thanks, but I did that.
I found a bug too.
When you change the power settings from the quick settings window in the "desktop", the changes are not recognized in the "power setting" you refer too, you have also to change there.
So if I choose balanced one place I have to do the same in the other too.
I see only that the WiFi is much faster at start when waking up from standby, but I think there is something wrong in these power settings.
I never lost 2-3% at night when the Prime was on WW28... and the battery/WiFi seems to drain faster now..
Just let things settle. These things takes time after updates. Its too early for any accurate readings anyways.

Remember that we do not use all same settings, and/or use devices same way. Making a comparison is only possible on the same device and the same setup/use.
I am happy that you are seeing improvements.

Aye, as far as I can notice it's draining a tiny bit quicker. I keep mine at max brightness IPS+ (except for late at night every now and again) but don't get more than an hour or two's use a day on average. Usually go anywhere from three to six days without charging, depending on how forgetful I am with turning WiFi off.
I can't factory reset like you until there's a new root method, but also like you I factory reset and restored only specific apps' data so the update would go as smoothly as possible. To no avail lol, but oh well. I'll give some more in-depth info as I have time to.

I've got the Exynos model of the s9+ and it appears to get pretty hot. Almost uncomfortable at times.. this a long with battery drain when I've got barely any apps installed is pretty poor. Note 8 never had these issues.. anyone else experiencing this?

This is NOT normal. Install aida64 or any monitorung software and check your temps. You may have a faulty unit! My temps right now on exynox are 34.5 cpu and 34.6 battery with normal usage
Is this normal?

Samsung haters out in force, eh? None of my Samsung phones has ever shown any overheating issues. Only phone I've owned that had overheating issues was LG.

Samsung's cooling and clock speed are just fine for normal use. Runnning Antutu is NOT normal phone use. Why slow down the phone for everyone else just to run some silly benchmark.

I'd like my phone to be stable at all times, in any situation, especially at this price point.
I also was shocked to see it since I never had it with any other device in the past.

My US unlocked s9+ never got uncomfortable hot/warm even under heavy task like gaming. And, during normal use like- calling, texting, chating, browsing it never got any hot/warm. Just normal. During 16 to 24 hrs of usage- i got avg 5:30 to 7:30hrs of screen on time
This thread has been cleaned now lets get it on topic...
Same happened to me
Found out that the problem is with battery temprature..did a settings reset and now back to normal..seems to me it's like a bug with some settings
Update
Again battery temps hitting 37degrees during normal work such as whatsapp and youtupe...feels a little warm..asked samsung and told me to get a replacement..
Hi, same here. I have Exynos 9 plus model and all of a sudden, apparently without any reason, it starts to burn...yesterday it was at 42...I'm a Samsung lover I had S5, S7 edge, S8, Gears s3 but now i'm quite upset because I spent a lot of money for it and now I have to do a reset factory to see if I can solve the problem...I spoke with Samsung care and they told me it can depend on the many apps I've installed in it...maybe, he said, it depends on Nova Launcher! I can't belive that I've always had Nova Launcher and now in a 1000 Euro phone I cannot use it because of the heat! The heat it always starts on the camera zone on the back
Had this with the Snapdragons before but the Exynos usually cooler, have you checked to see if it has an app running in the background causing it

Yes, I've installed System panel and Gsam battery monitor but i can't see any app the in particular is going crazy. I can see that sometimes, without any specific use, is starts to burn untill 42 like yesterday; I restarted the phone but i keeped doing it. I've took off all the background working for many apps like spotify and others....Now i'm doing hard reset and I will see...

Maybe better, maybe...you know the heat was going along with a strong battery drain. So I will wait one day to decide if bring it to assistance or not...
By the way, it's not fair to spend time to try to fix problems in a 1000 euros and 3 weeks phone and eventually bring it to assistance and stay without it for one week...I need the telephone for work!

?? mine appears to be normal now...dunno what changed
For me the video enhancement feature in settings was causing increased temperature and also battery loss. Turn it off and it will surely increase the battery life.
Mine gets warm too, but randomly. It stays cool most of the time. But all of a sudden it would get warm in my pocket. Don't know what's going on.
S9 overheating
Hi. I have been having the same issue. I took my phone back and got a replacement due to it overheating but the new phone overheats as well. It overheats the most when I use the Screen Mirroring (Smart View) feature to watch movies on my Samsung smart TV. I am curious to find out if this happens to other S9 owners as well. While I am watching movies using this feature it gets so hot the phone will freeze up halfway through the movie . My kids were watching a movie and they said the screen displayed a message stating it overheated and then shut off. This doesn't happen with any other of my other Samsung phones. I was walking with the phone on my hip on day and it started to get hot as well. I am so disappointed. I really am a fan of these phones but this is a huge problem of course. Also my first phone was was trouble shooted, updated and reset but it still had the same issues unfortunately. I had to go through all those steps before getting a new replacement device.
