I am looking to buy a tablet and I found a 32gb version of the Tablet Z for $100. Is this tablet still worth buying?
I know it has better specs than some of the newer cheaper tablets but just want to see what people's experiences are. Thanks
I have one and use it all the time. For $100, I don't think you could go wrong. I use mine for studying, and watching YouTube mostly and will occasionally use chrome remote desktop to log in to my laptop at home. Have never had any issues with it that a reboot didn't clear up and I only reboot once ever few months. Hope this helps.

Why not just stick with stock? I've tried many custom ROMs during my "flashaholic" days - but have always ended up back at stock because :
most of the custom ROMs have issues
some apps won't work if your tablet is rooted
Still enjoying my Tablet Z after 4 years of ownership :good:
I can't justify buying something newer.
Why root?
I have to agree with Greta, I see no reason to root. Everything just works as is with no problems. From the research I did about rooting this particular device, there just wasn't enough of a gain by doing so. Hope you enjoy it.

Nougat is really nice on this tablet. I recommend the LineageOS rom from this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-tablet-z/general/rom-cyanogenmod-14-t3496758
I have no issues and with it and it's fast, I also get insane battery life with standby being especially is impressive.

All firmwares, based on 7.1.x Nougar, are very smooth and responsive. So highly recommended.

Glad to hear it is working out well for you. I dropped mine anout a month ago and it is toast. I took it apart and tried selling stuff like the camera and ports online but nobody wanted them. I hate seeing things go to waste and was practically giving them away. Did you get a dock with yours? I have one of those, too. May try to ebay it along with the spare parts and the smart cover.

I'm also thinking of buying an used SGP311 and running the latest LineageOS on it. Does anyone with SGP311 have problems playing Clash Royale?
I have a Samsung SM-T320 running Kitkat 4.4.2 with Clash Royale and no problems. If I try SlimKat 4.4.4, LineageOS 13/14, CM 11/12, etc they ALL crash/reboot with Clash Royale. Only stock works with Clash Royale on the SM-T320.
The SGP311 uses Adreno 320 GPU and the SM-320 uses the Adreno 330 GPU. I'm just worried that whatever problem in Slimrom, LineageOS, CM, etc that causes Clash Royale to crash/reboot tablet might be related to the Adreno GPU drivers/code.
If you're into streaming services there is a thing that you should know: The Xperia Tablet Z has Google Widevine L3 DRM, that means that Netflix will NOT play HD movies, even with the most expensive subscription. Netflix needs Widevine L1, which you dont get with this device, even with an up-to-date OS installed. I dont know how this is with Amazon Prime.
EDIT: The SoC of this tablet does not suppert 60fps video streaming. This means that YouTube videos with 60 fps have a lot of stuttering. 60fps Twitch streams dont play the video at all, you can only hear the audio.

So, as our Xperia S is ARM based I thought it would be great to port Windows 8 to Xperia S. It would look great on SONY's HD screen, and all those colorfull Windows 8 tabs would look just fantastic. Let's think of it, and do something.
wouldn't this be so fricking hard to port?
Sent with my Sony Xperia S using a little bit of KA magic.
pretty much impossible since windows is closed source so therefore finding a way to get hardware working is beyond possible.
if you wanted a windows phone you should of brought one , if you want an android phone to look like a windows phone then download W7 Launcher ;0
NO!
You see, android is not that smooth on this phone, it usually hangs, and design is not as good as it should be, I'm SE fan since childhood so I wont by any other phone, but SONY users must have easy choice what OS to install on the phone
Short answer: no. The internals of WinRT are closer to desktop and WinMo8 is very, very hardware dependant. This means that getting any hardware support on that without Microsoft is going to be very, very, EXTREMELY hard.
But, you must admit, that Win8 or Win7 would look great on XS ))) Just imagine it, I'm not fan of Windows phones, I really like android but Dualcore 1.5 Is not enough to run smooth

No, really this phones are really slow, that's why we need better OS that uses less memory and cpu, for example when I open browser and music player, my music starts glitching and sometimes phone even hangs, its very stupid for 1GB ram phone, so lets do something about porting Windows, or something like that.

It's not because the phone is unable to run Android, it's because of bugs in Sony's firmware. CM10 is very fast for me and capable of running 5-10 apps with music in the background and zero stutter.
Android is smooth as butter on my XS running FXP131 CM9, There was nothing really wrong with it on the stock firmware except that Sony somehow felt the need to leave out WiFi Direct, If you want Windows phone, Go and buy a windows phone, The XS is way overpowered for it.

Never had a sony phone before and was able to get a z ultra new unlocked for 150(great deal) love the phone but noticed when i play certain games they always crash. Mainly Family Guy quest for Stuff. I know this game is buggy but have no problems playing it on a cheap zte zinger phone but when i play on z ultra it always force closes after about a minute. Moved it to SD card and that doesnt help, could it be that i need to free up some of the ram? if so How do i disable apps from constantly running even if they arent open or any other suggestions you guys have. Great phone love it and really love playing Family Guy for the screen size but dont know what I have to do to my phone to make it work.
Is it force closing with a "Unfortunately, x app was closed" or just returning to launcher?
Regards
Keeps returning to launcher. Don't know why especially since it runs fine on my 30 dollar zte zinger phone

Yup, low memory, are you using stock ROM? Customs have better RAM management, especially AOSP ones, like Scrubber's port of GP edition ROM.

5.0.2 to be exact are there really memory issues with this version that would cause this?
Sony has fixed the memory leak that appears to be in LP, Sony apps and services are very resource hungry, some Google services as well. You can try to disable some of them but do it with caution as it can end in a bootloop, there is a topic in Themes and apps section with which apps can be disabled.

The Nexus 10 was the first 10" tablet I had and it was the most enjoyable tablet I had. Haptic feedback, camera flash, two decent sounding speakers, and the screen size were all pretty nice bonuses.
I'm looking to buy another tablet in the future. Ideally, I want 10" or larger, and the ability to use custom ROMs (does the N10 still have official Cyanogenmod support?) or even better, native Linux. The Nexus 10 seems pretty affordable nowadays, and as long as I can throw a clean ROM onto it (AOSP or CM), I'd be pretty good to go.
So, would a Nexus 10 be a good investment nowadays, or is there another tablet that would be a better choice?

I bought mine in Dec. of 2012 and still use it every day. I've tried a lot of ROMs in the last 3 years, but I keep coming back to the rooted stock ROM (link below). It 's still getting regular security updates and just seems to run the best. I find no reason to go out and buy anything newer, this tab just keeps going and going. I say Go For It!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-10/development/rom-21-11-2014-t2948203
I think N10 is still a good tablet (I'm writing this on mine), especially if you don't intend to run modern games on it. For browsing , youtube and occasional simple productivity tasks - it's just great. Mine is 2 years old now and I think I'll keep it for another year at least. Will try putting marshmellow on it though, I'm just curious like that
As for alternatives, I'd say Sony xperia Z4 tablet is by far the best tablet out there right now. A friend got it recently and it's just great, really. Light, thin, great display (same resolution as N10) and battery life. And it has microsd slot. And you can even put AOSP on it, becase Sony provides binaries. Check it out, but it's probably like twice the price of N10.
My Nexus 10 is two years old and I still love it, although it's starting to chug a little more when switching between apps. I don't know that I would buy one today unless it's brand new (probably hard to find these days) and you got a decent deal on it.
I like my wife's Nexus 9, particularly the aspect ratio. I just wish it had that extra inch of screen space.
My N10 runs fast and smooth. I use stock rooted rom. It runs best on the stock rom.
I bought mine two months ago used. Running stock 5.1.1 and it's a bit slow but for what I use which is solely for media consumption it's great. Nice screen real estate and loud speakers.
Yes! I bought mine used aswell , and Running Marshmallow on it very well, very smooth and fast. Nothing to complaint.
I've had mine for a number of years now. Overall I've been pleased with it until recently. I'm having Wifi issues that drive me crazy. Also, it appears there's a major problem with YouTube that causes the tablet to reboot after only a few seconds of video. I get the feeling the device is just not getting the love from the Google developers that it needs.
My parents own one and have the known " yellow smudge" on the display. I would consider a different tablet.

Hi, im using OmniRom from scanno, you can find it here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-10/orig-development/rom-t3045066)
There are nice differences yes, I find it smoother and with also better battery life. It works very good in every task I do. Although, I find stock 5.1.1 pretty good also but sometimes I had some crashes on youtube and slowing down performance when using it. If you have more specific questions I would be glad to answer if I can. You should try the ROM !!!

Oh ! well if it isnt a trouble for you I recomend you continue using 5.1.1 , its a very good ROM on performance. But if you wish to try on watching 1440p youtube videos I would recomend you to try OmniRom 6.0.1 version! So you still get Omni features and stability and also with Marshmallow features and battery managment.

There is also a new AICP build with Marshmallow 6.0.1 running well:

So that you have other options to enjoy
Got mine as a Christmas gift from my wife three years ago. I still use it pretty regularly. The only issue I have is the battery isn't what it used to be (to be expected after 3 years).
Interestingly enough, I still use an AOKP PUB build (Android 4.3, I think - don't have it in front of me) because it was one of the last builds with the ability to have a true tablet UI (back/home/recent buttons on bottom left, status bar/notifications, etc. on bottom right).
I'll probably keep it until it's completely dead. But I'm not sure I have a real need for a tablet. If I'm ever in the market for something else, I'll almost certainly buy a Surface or some other laptop/tablet hybrid.
When I bought my N10 back in early 2013 I thought I wouldn't use it much.. The only thing I regret is getting the 16GB version. I don't think my Note 2 - launched approximately the same time - has been keeping the momentum equally good and it has been upgraded to a N4. But the N10 is aging like wine and I'm impressed to see mine still going after will these years. Would I get a "new" one today? Probably not. But I don't feel a need to upgrade either.
Also as rodeojones writes above.. Do I REALLY need a tablet? Probably not. My N4 is big enough when I'm not at home and when I'm home I usually use my desktop computer. But AICP 11 is working very well...

From time to time there was a problem with the android webview service, but a update from Google play solved it.
When Google optimized some strange things, it started draining the battery, but every time they fix it.
Very stable.
And of course, when you are running dozens of apps with push and autosync, your battery will die faster. But that's not firmware related.

Dont really know. never used it since all emulators suck for PSP emulation.
I use MM, fw 23.5.A.0.570, and have about 12-14 days in standby. I don't agree with kos25k that KK is the best option, it's very old fw.
My tablet is rooted and debloated, and i use L-speed to tweak the system to my liking. It works very well. The only problem is with the camera, it can't focus and take pictures. Prob something I did when I installed the fw tough. Never really use the camera on it, so it's not a big deal for me though.
For best support you'll need an app to emulate the ds4 buttons and root. It should work with ds3 too but you will have to check.
Im going to root and try out 'sixaxis controller' tool that I've used with other devices.
Also i like MM wish we would get N.
although is old OS,it is considered by the most as the best OS overal..Also is considered from most developers as the most stable OS on android platform general..it runs on 35% of android devices, even if is old..and also in our case (Z3) very most say that runs best from anything else ?
Peace to all

The latest version of YouTube for Android Gingerbread 2.3.6 is 5.5.30. But it no longer works. Can anyone patch it for it to work? (You can use the latest YouTube for reference)

We can't make it work by "patching it". The fact that the app doesn't work anymore is controlled server side AFAIK.
But maybe you can find an alternative YT player that's compatible with Gingerbread. Your post took me back man, I didn't know you could still use GB in 2020. Is it your daily driver ?

Yes it really is my daily driver
Is there any alternative players that I can log in to my account?
I will install CM11 soon though.

If you want to use modern apps, you need to get a newer device. Even if you could update your device to a newer android version, your hardware is too old for most modern apps and services, your device would really be too slow to effectively use most modern apps. It is time for you to upgrade to some kind of device that has at least android 5 or 6 installed on it. Your device is so old and so far behind that I'm surprised it even works with anything available today. I still have my older devices but most of them can no longer effectively use apps from today.

Ehhh, it depends on the person, I made do with a galaxy ace gt-s5830 in 2018, a single core 800mhz phone with more ram than storage "256mb to be exact" but even with a pretty bloated install of 4.4.2 it was fine, loading was slow but when it got going it was perfectly cromulent for surfing the net and light gaming, I'd say a galaxy s gt-i9000 with omni 5.1.1 is the oldest you can go with gapps and decent app support, its slow but it works without too much struggle

An older device like that using ROMs from 2018 isn't comparison to older devices like that using ROMs from today. You actually made my point for me, though. I said older devices using newer ROMs are too slow to "effectively" use newer ROMs, which, is true. They "work" but they are very slow, too slow for anyone except someone who can't afford a better device or someone that chooses to make do with less.
