Really hidden files - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I've installed some mag's readers and i was curious with the files the applications use (pdf, or ... ?).
I was unable to find any file.
I can read the mag offline and the space available is less after a mag download so i'm quite sure they are on the phone (galaxy note 2).
With detailed used space, before and after a mag download, i've seen the space is used in Application folder, but where ???
Can't see anything in Android folder.
I've selected "view hidden files" in es explorer but no more chance.
I can see some files starting with '.' but just a few ones and none with the size of the mag or in application folders.
So it's seems there are other ways to really hide files or folders.
Any idea ?

[Q] How to make Archos Gallery not display .hidden items?

On my other Android devices I can simply put a . in front of folders that I don't want the gallery to display (such as avatar pics and shortcut icons and what not) and it wouldn't. Then I could use eStrongs file manager or similar to browse to them when I needed them. I popped a 2GB MicroSD card I had laying around that already had some files on it from another Android device and ALL of the folders with images are showing up in the gallery... even those with a . in front of them.
Is there any way on an Archos 101 to set the Gallery to NOT display items inside of a '.' folder? Seems this is default with other Android devices so I'm hoping it's at least an option on these.
Ideas?
Thanks for the help.
Moved to general as not android development.

Create a 0kb file called .nomedia. Place it in the folder of items you don't want shown. That should work.

Doesn't appear to work. I searched before posting this and found a few things about .nomedia and thought maybe you had to rename the actual folders w/the images within to .nomedia to hide them? Seems like this would be a PITA way to go about it.
Am I doing something wrong? Any other ideas?

It should work just fine. Did you name the file specifically .nomedia? No ext name. Did you reboot to see if that helps? Did you put the file in the folder of the items you don't want showing?
Here is some more specific instructions (I didn't write them):
1. On your computer, open Notepad or any other text editor
2. Save the blank file with the filename “.nomedia”, make sure that the Save as type is set as “All Files” instead of “Text documents”
3. Copy that file to the folder on your SD card containing picture files you don’t want to show up in the gallery. (Example: If you want to block aDyno image files from coming up, place the .nomedia file in the sdcard/aDyno folder)
4. Reboot your phone and hopefully the unwanted files should no longer be viewable.

Alright, w/more information I tried it again. I created a file just using a file browser on the device. This time around I created a file in Notepad on my PC called .nomedia and made sure the filetype was set to 'all files' before saving and that there was no extension (deleted the .txt) and then copied that file to my Archos 101. I first tried in the folder on the SD card that contained all the folders in question. I rebooted and it didn't seem to help. I then copied the file into each folder and rebooted. Still no dice. Whenever I open Gallery all the folders and images are still there. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to clear a cache or something or delete any tumbnails or ?? I'm sure I'm just doing something wrong but for the life of me I can't figure it out. I keep searching and am coming up with nothing. This was SO easier on my other Android devices as I just put a period in front of the name of the folders I didn't want to display and it was done. Simple as that. This is a royal PITA and I feel I'm not making any progress.

Do either of these allow you to simply hide w/o signing in or encryption? I found two other programs & both required this which I don't want to deal with. Just seems odd that others are saying this is working for them & I'm not having any luck. I don't mind installing an app as long as it works but I'm not sure why my Archos 101 would be different than the rest.

[Q] .config_c38 hidden file on sdcard

I have Galaxy 3 with Kyrrilos 8.1 and in root of my sdcard is hidden file .config_c38
Does anybody knows what this file is and from which application? Does anyone have this file too?
I tried to delete it but it always immediately appears again.
It's a text file obviously with some configuration setting. Inside is a text of about 100 characters without spaces and starts with zdyFt8GYHJH....etc
Interests me too.
I had that file on SD at the time I was testing various apps for my phone, so the file was from one of that apps. But now I don't have that file anymore, so it has to be from some of the app I don't use anymore. I never found out which one.
More than that I can't help you.

Why do programs with root not see past the data folder?

Hey all, I'm a noob. But I got my NT pretty much where I want it to be. I realize now that the extra space is in the data file system (yeah, I can use the extra gigs). Now, my biggest problem is that my .cbz .cbr files do not have a default program or association. This is a problem because my root accessible comic readers will read to the data folder but when you open up the data folder it says nothing is there. At this point, I just need a comic app that links up .cbz .cbr s as the default program for those file types so that I can open the file from on of my file expolorer programs. Or I need to figure out a way that allows my rooted comic apps to actually go into the data folder. Why won't these programs look into the file system past data?
Now,
I did try the permanence method to link a usrdata file to the mnt/internal file, but while it creates the mnt/internal file it does not fill it in with my files...which sucks (I just folled the instructions and I think it may require the snowball mod). I do like the B&N reader for my epubs, so I don't want to use the snowball mod
And even in snowball could not work, in OP is posted that many apps can still be incompatible

[Q]All gallery files disappeared

Suddenly all my pictures and videos disappeared. All Viber, Whats app, Screenshots, camera, downloaded - everything... Only new ones I take are showing. The files are missing in the folders too. I have two DCIM folders - one on internal and another on external drive but they are empty now. I tried File Explorer, ES File Explorer with "show hidden files", and I've checked all of the device folders, but I can not find any of my pictures or videos. I tryed with QuickPic - same sh**... If i connect my device to my PC the result is the same. The PC recovery soft which I test, found about 3000 files, and with all emoticons and trash there were my pictures but in very low res. So I tried Hexamob Recovery Pro (from the Play store), but the result was the same - about 12 000 junk files and some of mine in low res... The method with deleting all .nomedia files doesn't work. Than I've installed Undelete - This app found about 300 files, and these were all of the missing files, but when I tried to restore them, It asked for a license key... The free version could restore only pics...one by one... You can't select all!!!
So how to restore all my stuff without stupid apps!?
*my camera freezes often. "Could not connect the camera" appeares, and I need to reboot to solve this prob
Samsung GT-I9300
Android Version 4.1.2
Baseband I9300UELK1
Kernel 3.0.31 -Siyah-1.8.6+
AOKP Milestone -1 Jelly Bean
Omega v4.2
Where are these files stored (hidden), what is there extension? And why only Undelete can find the proper files with their full resolution!?
So, I found that Undelete detects files at DCIM\DCIM\Camera, but even with "show hidden " explorers does not see the second DCIM folder... Any suggestions !?
You can try
http://android-photo-recovery.com/tutorials/recover-deleted-photos-from-samsung-galaxy-s3.html
Or buy the Undelete licence .
Or read the multiple identical lost photos / files posts .

Thanks!
But I already checked similar posts, and stil can't find solution .. The soft that you recommended, resulting small images too.. The idea is not only to recover, but to prevent future problems of this kind.. I want to understand what causes that
