Hi Guys,
I have been looking for a very long time now for a good file manager for pc wth no bloatware, something like androdid commander or qtabd are there any moded versions knocking about that work with android 7+ or is there some other software now that it clean and great like these 2
I have been unable to get them to work fully and successfully since android 5.
I hate apps like mobile go and tunes go they are all bloated with crap and running services i would also be happy to beta test any upcoming soft as connect my phone to pc each day mainly to backup apps

Hi, I've got a new phone recently, and I'd like to turn my old HTC legend into a mp3 player.
I'd like to completely remove Android and just make it a file manager similar to an iPod Classic, so I can play audio and video files.
I want the file manager to be the ONLY program on the phone, exept being able to take pictures (althogh the last is optional)
How do you do that/anything similar?
Thank you.
I don't think removing Android fully and using the phone with just a file browser is an option, I might be wrong though.
Your best bet would be to run CM7 without the Gapps package, this will probably be as light and fast as your going to get.
MoPhoACTV Initiative
Well, I don't want it to be an Android anymore
I did something similar with my old Motorola Droid. I wanted it just to be an Audible player, so I installed CM7 and just disabled as much as I could. With root access, you can remove a number of system apps without breaking anything, and then use something like LauncherPro to hide the rest ot the icons in the app drawer that you don't want on there. You can also make a dock at the bottom in LauncherPro that has nothing on it, so that you can't even get to the drawer without adding an icon for it in the dock. You would end up with a homescreen that just has whatever specific apps you want on it, similar to an iPod Touch.
It'll probably be close to impossible to get something working on there that isn't Android--the touchscreen/wifi/camera rely on drivers and such. Your best bet will probably be to go with a ROM and customize it to fit your needs.
If you've ever used the Rockbox firmware for various MP3 players, there is an Android port. This runs like a regular app on Android. Its compiled daily for Android here:

You still need an operating system, you can't just get rid of Android. You could disable stuff that isn't essential to the OS like Gapps, and any other apps you dont need.
Hey guys,
I'm quite new to Android (only a fews days with my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1). I previously had an iPhone which I always jailbroke, because I was more of a hacking & tweaker without any deep technical knowledge.
Some stuff reg. Android is still a little confusing:
I. If I buy an additional Android phone like the upcoming Sony Xperia Z, can I just sign into my Google account or use Titantium Backup to restore all my apps and settings or will that only partially works as my other device is a tablet?
II. Is there someway I can let Android update all the apps autocratically and in the backup? Or am I doing something wrong?
Just so you know, I've already manged to root my tablet and install a custom ROM, even though the process is more complicated than a simple jailbreak
I. Your Google account will keep track of apps you buy so you don't have to buy them again and you can install them on as many devices as you register on your account. If you factory reset your tablet Google Play would download the apps you had before, but it would consider your phone a new separate device. You could however use Titanium Backup to backup apps plus data to a cloud storage like dropbox, box, etc and then restore that data using Titanium Backup on your new device. You'll have to be rooted to use Titanium backup.
II. Google Play has an option to download updates automatically and for phones you can choose whether you want to use wifi only, in case you are on a limited data plan. Titanium backup allows you to schedule automatic backups. IMO the best time to run these is at night when your device is being charged.
I'd like to see Google come up with their own way of syncing app data between devices, so you could for example start playing a game on your tablet and pick up where you left off later on your phone.
I used to have a huawei ascend p1 phone with gapps preinstalled (good phone). People first complain about its build quality but it that plastic they used on it can withstand many drops without even scratching the phone. I sort of found the gapps annoying because the first time I set it up, it asked me for my physical location and a google account and asked me to store home wifi passwords, contacts, etc in google servers and all that those data stuff google wants from people. I know I can back up my own things so I don't need google to do all these things for me, I tried to disable as much of these features as I could and it was okay for a while until my phone got stolen at a sports center and couldn't find it back despite having installed tracking apps on it.
So I got a new phone, the nexus 4 because it had a booloader that was easy to unlock. I decided to start fresh without all those data sucking features and remove the stock firmware to flash cyanogenmod on it. It was my first time using cyanogenmomd and I gotta say it's wayyy better than the stock firmware in terms of useful features. I really liked it because of all the customizations it offered. As a replacement for google play I installed 1mobile, and fdroid/slideme they worked wonderfully without a google account (I never had one). When I started to install apps from these markets, some apps would work and some would not and some wouldn't even install. I used adb logcat to figure out what was wrong with them and it showed that they required some permissions from the gapps package mainly "com.google.android.maps.xml" and few others. I decided to just copy this file over to the permissions folder on my device and the apps that wouldn't install before installed but most of them would crash easily. Subway sufer was one of my favourite games but it wouldn't work without gapps along with other apps. I figured I had to install gapps and all the data sucking questions and features poped up after I rebooted my phone prior to the installation so I set it up just like previously did on the huawei ascend p1. I noticed that 1modile wouldn't work as smoothly as it did anymore because the searches don't return the official apps. It's like something's been changed in its search algorithm because it when I search for subway surfers it used to return the official game as #1 result but after gapps it dosn't show at all, it just shows tricks, cheats and other apps for the game. The same things goes with other apps I tried to find from it.
To sum everything up, my question would be something like "Is there a way to have all those dependencies apps rely inside cyanogenmod without gapps?".
Hopefully upgrading today to the New One M8 device. I have ATT One X+ now and going to Verizon for the New One. Just curious of how to successfully transfer all my apps and all their data to new device? I know Google will download all my apps once I co figure my new device but how about their data? Like my private photos saved in Vaulty app, my game progress in dead trigger 2, etc?
I don't know if titanium backup is the answer and if it will work as it's backing up on this device then trying to restore app data on HTC New One M8 device?
This One X+ is my first android phone so never done this before upgrading to another android device. Appreciate any help in simple terms for me.
In settings and backup I have the box checked that says backup app data to Google on WiFi connection if that makes a difference?
You should have asked this question after you got your new phone .
I have only one phone, but I also have a virtual android device running via BlueStacks. Both are connected to one google account. After I downloaded Asphalt 8 on Blue Stacks, it didn't restore my save games from my HTC (but even Asphalt has an in-build cloud store option). So I've created a backup of my save game using Helium/Carbon and restored it, but I think Titanium should work as well.
If using Helium/Carbon, you are can connect one phone to another using an internet connection. Then, you can choose on one phone "restore app data from other phone" option. While you simply relax, the whole thing is going on... And works!

I wanted to have all my ducks in order before I get my new phone. Worst case I basically saved storage on my device to my laptop so can manually do that for music, photos, etc.
Thing is the New One M8 device does not have root yet so can't even use titanium backup. Does this carbon app work without root?
Thing is I'm trading in my One X+ for my new device so I have to backup my phone to my laptop which I did.
What I'm worried about now though is game data for dead trigger 2. Have a lot of time and money in that game and hate to lose it all when installing on my new device.
Carbon does work without root, my HOX+ is unrooted. The only thing is, you need to connect your phone to your PC once. After that, you can plug it out and use Carbon. You will have to repeat it only if you reboot your device.
I used Iphone for 2 years, windows phone 7 for 3 years and now I own an android 4.0.4 phone last 2 years.
I have never had any single issue with Iphone and WP7 as following problems occurred on an Android OS,
- Memory is full. it is slow. Use some app to boost your memory (kill apps whatever). It never ends. Sometimes needs to restart your phone.
I can never understand why do I need to run apps on the background while IOS and WP can handle them efficiently with sleep-wake thing.
They also run some apps on background but only system apps I believe. I dont need my whatsapp to occupy 30mb memory, when message comes, it just wakes up and shows me I have a message.
- Storage is full, cant install new apps or updates. Oh damn, it even happens when my storage isnt full. I have no idea why? I have to google.
- xxx.google.com process stopped working. restart the phone!
- Google to move non-movable apps to SD card.
- my camera stopped working or lagging. No no it is freaking hardware issue. It is totally the software. you can google millions of threads about it.
- .thumbnails4 hold 1 gb + storage when I want to see the photos or videos. google it, struggle for days, weeks for a solution if you are lucky, you get one.
- I can find more and more reason that Android sucks and I am not student or idle. I don't have time to google the things. I am not even getting payed for googling for these workarounds. I never had any single issue for Iphone and Windows phone.
Please give me a good reason that Android is better OS than these 2.
thanks.
1-sometimes you shouldn't blame the os but the device,(in galaxy ace's and gio's that problem is really common,)
2- android runs on tablets, smartphones,pc's, smartwatches,tv's, alarm clocks, cars and some stuff that i dont even know.
3-comprare the number of apps and the compatibility for number of devices that wp must have and android must have.
4-compare the number of connections and the time that were launched that android offer vs wp (otg, acess point for sharing 3g,wifi direct, nfc...)
5-and the functions that android updates bring, (swipe keyboard, photoshpere, launcher upgrades, toogles in navbar, unique uis for each company, swap your lockscreen, etc...)
6-not to mention the development(remapping keys, change 100% of the internal software/apps,in some cases, install other os like meego, run ubuntu over android, and so much more)
im not here to say that android is better than any os, android could be good for me and not suit for you, i guess the only way to know is to try it out, and i also think that you just had an horrible experience cause of the device.
This is why i buy android devices.
