I can't seem to find any. There's only the official way, its safe and reliable. I know its a bit annoying having to go through all the ridiculous charade, but it pays off in the end. So, have some patience, it'll be worth it.
It's not that time consuming, when i asked for the permission i got it in only 6 hours. It's all luck based i guess.

Hi, I’m Christina, and I’ll be glad to assist you today. I understand how important it is for your device to function properly. HTC does not support leaked versions of the ROMS because of this we are unsure whether you will be able to install the new version of the ROM. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Thank you for contacting HTC America Technical Support.
I hate how stupid HTC reps think people are. I sent three emails to finally get a somewhat decent response.
Now that it is quite humerous.... Thank you for that, I needed a laugh. BTW, why are you so worried about getting the OTA? The leaked v3 is very identical to the OTA.... just download that instead...

Yeah I've done that but I wanted root haha. No big deal, I'm fixing on swapping in my phone soon anyway.

The ota wouldn't get you root anyway. The hboot image isn't updated by the ota so you would still be in the exact same spot you are right now.

But if he got a new phone he will still either be able to OTA or root....

haha like i mean see if anything new comes up by the time i get around to doing whatever i want to my phone. maybe if im patient then something bigger will happen
Well, the only development to come to the eris for a while is going to be new roms. root for leakers is still not here yet, and from what ive seen wont be for a bit. We already have root. and the Eris Master App makes it super simple. just get a new phone and root it. with root, you can install roms that have OTA included, plus better themes, and can do a lot more than with just 1.5 or 2.1 non root.
Just curious, how many developers are working on root for leakers?
According to VZW support's twitter account (http://twitter.com/vzwsupport), "@jfkerekes Yes, leakers should receive the OTA by 5/24. Manual download is not available. *NK"

Im thinking of doing the same. I also want to Root and see going to Verizon and swapping phones. Anybody have the best excuse to use to get them to swap out your phone?

Verizon reps are stupid as hell and dont know what theyre talking about most of the time.
HTC is the source and they know everything but just arent happy to share until bugged 24/7.
I am under the impression that if you unlock your boot loader you can flash a custom rom without rooting....is that true?
Correct.
ok great. I have my prime insured through my insurance company and given that asus rma's have a terrible reputatation i'm going to unlock, know of a good tutorial or guidline anywhere? the couple video's i found under the developement thread weren't to clear....

I think you don't need a video or tutorial because you run the official ASUS unlock (apk) and that's it. It takes a few second.
But be aware that there is no way back! And you're loosing your guarantee!
For my personal use rooting is much more important than unlocking.
By asking the question, you lead me to suspect you may not realise the meaning of the question. You don't need to root first before unlocking and flashing a ROM, but you will be rooted by the time you finish.

Hello all, I've had this phone for quite awhile now, and as we all know... IT'S SLOW!!! The only cure would of course be a custom ROM, however in our case, LG decided it'd be a great idea to shoehorn badly optimized software, sucking up TOO much RAM right out the bat.
I've tried the primary way, which involved flashing v20b, the necessary zips, and the command, which failed miserably. I'm assuming that the server or whatever that "sent the unlock command" is no longer active... and my phone was 05\2013 meaning it was suppoed to work. Devs must now dig deep into the code itself at this point as far as I know... Has everyone already bailed out or is there someone still working on it.. Feel free to start a new discussion here as well. :good:
What do you guys think? Anything?
There's currently no other unlock methods and there probably won't be any as the devs will move on to less restricted devices

As mentioned above, there is no new method, I would suggest giving the old method a go once again.

Curses. Thanks, I'll find a day to attempt to do it again.. but I'm usually busy alot too.
Yeah I'm still working on my guides sometimes but its getting pretty dead here since no one can unlock their bootloader. I figure if my guide explains it all amd they can unlock using it there will be more activity here.
I finally received my parts for making a 910k cable...
Gotta wait till next weekend, hopefully I can unlock this thing. Somehow i'm beginning to doubt i'll be able to....

It was yours I actually tried. I liked yours much better than the old one because it was actually laid out much better. Only thing I can think of is trying the 910K Cord, I'm awaiting user feedback before i spend money I don't have. hmmm...
Please

Was not fun at all.
I think we have to wait until DarryDoo comes back, he seems to be the only one who knows how to flash it properly.
Unless there's a big and obvious truth that i'm overlooking.
So I tried the Locked BL CM9. It was marvelous, I got the screen working and everything, but the camera and rotation are backwards. I use those two quite alot. :crying:
I wish someone could port 2nd int CM11 over to our phone.
I'm going back to stock in the meantime, I might try again tomorrow.
I wish

Did you have any problems with my guide? If so, please tell me where because I would like to make it better.
Sorry I've been away, personal crap has been overwhelming.
I still haven't tried to unlock 2nd phone, maybe this weekend or Monday. I'll fully document the process.
Cheers

There was nothing wrong with it, it was just likely my luck. because the Unlock command didn't do squat.
I understand

Dude, I understand what you mean. Gotta have priorities in check. That'll be great! Thanks! Maybe have pictures just in case some people have the wrong gear or so.
I came across this link for how to root the Verizon LG G5 (VS987).
I don't think it's legit though because it references this link for unlocking the bootloader. It claims the unlock method is for "all variants," however I believe it only works for the T-Mobile LG G5 (H830).
I'm just wondering if anyone has tried this or knows anything about it.
This would definitely not work. If you follow the links, the steps require you use fastboot, which is not enabled on the G5. Sites like this are just trying to be the first result on a Google search for "[model#] root." Sickening.
Yeah, definitely frustrating! I want to get a G5, but having an un-rootable phone is not an option for me. I don't want to switch to T-Mobile to get one but Verizon's draconian style is pushing me away.
A root / bootloader unlock method is in the works right now... no word yet in terms of a timeframe, but some users here are definitely working on unraveling the device's security and encryption.

okay this I am waiting with bated breath for because I am hoping to make my phone much more efficient once this hits.
I want to unlock the bootloader of my G5, but I am scared a bit of voiding my warranty if some problems come up in future (it's only been a bit more than 24 hours with G5). I've heard of unofficial way of getting the unlock code and I've heard stories of people relocking their bootloaders, but I am not sure.
So, if and how can I relock H850 bootloader?
And where can I find that unofficial way of unlocking it? (I know that it costs some money. However, google didn't help me.)

There is no unofficially way to unlock the bootloader, when You ask for the unlock.bin to LG the warranty you'll lose the warranty, so even if You relock it (which is possible) LG will anyway know trough the device id and the imei which Smartphone are locked and which are not.
They cannot void your warranty just based on the fact you requested the unlock.bin
As for how to unlock there is plenty of information about it in threads here, just read it. As for an unofficial way of unlocking - the fact that you couldn't find anything in google leads me to believe it either does not exist or is a recent discovery in which case I'd wait since it will find its way here sooner or later once it's validated.
I remember browsing through reddit and xda three days ago and in some thread people were discussing the ways of unlocking G5. One person said that if official way doesn't work (because only h850 is supported on LG website), you can buy unlock *stuff* (file or code, I don't remember) on this other website for 1.99 or 0.99. Others said they will try and after trying they were really happy because it worked.
I'm not sure where it was, but I think it was on XDA. Could it have been removed by mods?

This in theory, the practise is different, there are reports on both cases in xda, so it's better to report the worst case.

There was nothing like this on xda, maybe a simple thread where users tried to find a different way to unlock the bootloader
