GPS issue? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Questions & Answers

Hey guys,
Is there a GPS issue with this phone? I've not extensively tested it but I just went out for a quick ride out on my road bike using Road Bike Pro (Runtastic) and the result of my ride was all over the place
I took the same route as I always do, which has been fine on my Sony/Samsung so it can't have been a coverage issue.
Any ideas?

Ditto. It has nailed me within 3 feet while zoomed all the way in on the map. As I move around my yard it moves almost instantly.
Used a few times in Chicago today, near O'Hare airport which is known for **** signal. Worked perfectly.
Locks on quicker than my ogEVO.

If by accurate you mean reading you as 3 streets over...
not sure
I use mine with a running app Runkeeper. It was very good the first 2 times I used it showing 3.08 miles for a actual 3.1 mile distance. But yesterday is showed 5.37 miles for the same 3.1 route.
I hope it was just a glitch which happens depending on clouds but yesterday was clear.
meh
Meh, it gets poor signal indoors. Outdoors, it's often off. To truly test the GPS, you need to disable WIFI, otherwise it will use the BSSID's of nearby wifi hotspots to show your location...
I noticed that on the OG Evo in Maps (Maps, not Navigate), it would usually snap-to-street while i was driving. Now it doesnt seem to, i could be doing 50 down a side street and the map shows me driving through people's back yards on that street...
I use mine for logging runs and workouts. I wasn't too impressed yesterday when Cardio Trainer logged only half of my run.
NS4G didn't do that, lol. You could see where it would pickup and drop some sort of signal, and it repeated it numerous times while walking.
Running, it seemed to hold signal decently.
::EDIT::
Went running and I think its a CardioTrainer issue, not GPS. The GPS is constantly updating it seems like, just with CT I had a setting (auto pause after 5 seconds of no running) and I don't know if because of picking up and dropping satellites or what, but it was in and out of that mode.
Disabled that option (no big deal to me if it doesn't auto pause), and had a CONSTANT lock for the rest of the run after I did so.
I can get a cold lock inside within 10secs. Outside cold lock almost instantaneous. Gps rocks in this device.

It's really good and accurate. But, I never really use it so I can save some battery life.
I've been blown away on it. Google Maps on my Palm Pre used to take over a minute to load, and in some cases wouldn't load at all. After it did, it wouldn't aquire a GPS signal. On the 3vo on the other hand, maps opens up within seconds and it also aquires a GPS signal right away. The arrow even moves around depending where the phone is pointed. Can't say I have any complaints. My favorite feature is being able to stream pandora music and telenav at the same time, and it actually fades out the music while GPS kicks in.
I've been having all sorts of trouble with GPS locks. It'll lock on fine to start, but within a few minutes of driving I'll get GPS signal lost and it'll take a long time to re-acquire. I wonder why. I may have to consider taking it for a repair/replacement if I'm the only one seeing issues. It reminds me a lot of how my 4G acted when I was using an earlier CM7 build so I attempted the ##GPSCLRX#, but that didn't seem to solve anything.

I drove from Buffalo, NY to Summerville, SC and back last week (900+ miles) and my GPS was spot on the entire time. While in SC I used it to get everywhere and it was perfect.
Mine grabbed me within 5 meters. Spot On.
I used Cardio Trainer also and it was very inaccurate. I watched the signal jump all over the place, it was terrible. I took it back to Sprint and they reluctantly swapped it out. I haven't tested it yet. Others, please test walking or running. I will be taking it back and going back to my EVO 4G if it is not fixed. My EVO 4G worked flawlessly.
you can only test something like gps when your driving and have time to set it up, wait for lock, yadda yadda yadda...
on the three occasions that i have used it it consistantly dropped signal and was a PITA. as for gps... I prefer the 4g not the 3d
Strange...

My GPS has been working flawlessly since purchase. I play golf and use the Golf Card app and was very happy with the accurate results. However, today....the GPS was acting wacky. It was jumping all over as described above. I reset the GPS and that didn't fix it. After playing around with the phone for awhile, I finally got it to work as normal. Keeping an eye on this in case I need to get rid of this phone.
My GPS has been about as temperamental as the OG Evo on CM7. It sometimes has trouble locking and often is fairly inaccurate (it seems to work better in Google maps than other apps). The OG Evo on sense was definitely better IMO.

The GPS is very inaccurate and jumps around constantly on Runkeeper. For example, see these runs:
http://runkeeper.com/user/rcrockett/activity/41894800
http://runkeeper.com/user/rcrockett/activity/41487967
Zoom in and you can see how it's jumping around all over the place. It makes it seem as though I am running faster and a longer distance. The first link is a 10k, but it reported it as 7.15 miles. I thought was kicking butt!
I have not taken any OTAs. I hope this is fixed sometime soon. I wonder why this hasn't been reported more.

My tracks or Strava?

Does anyone here use My Tracks or Strava to map GPS bike rides or runs? I have been using both of these apps since I had the MyTouch 3g. Some little issues are expected especially with the GPS on the Vibrant. The elevation change isn't exactly on point but usually only off by a couple 40-50 feet or so. In the last week or so, the elevation and tracks have been way off, like over 1,000 feet off. I have not changed anything on my Vibrant. I use the Strava app just about everyday. Anyone else experience this issue or have suggestions where to begin? I tried the hardware GPS fix to no avail.
i use my tracks for runs. sometimes i get up to speeds of 35mph on foot. my elevation changes rapidly even though i live in houston where the biggest hills are ant hills. the distance is correct since i tracked the same path with a g2x and iphone 4.
I use cardio trainer from work smart labs. Works well even with our crappy gps. Had setting for multiple sports, and can use sensors for use with a treadmill

I really like Strava because it automatically uploads my track to the strava.com site. I never have a problem with distances, just elevation and sometimes speed will say upwards of 100mph. Really messes up my training log. This just started happening about 1 week ago. Before then, elevation was pretty close, but the actual track was not correct. I frequently ride with friends who have iPhones and garmin edge devices and their tracks are much much better than mine. Think it is related more to GPS or TMobile service? I've had pretty terrible service recently.
I use Strava and have been very happy with it.
However, I wish to automate Strava using Tasker to run and log when I touch an NFC chip. Then turn off and upload when I touch the chip again.
This seems much easier to configure with My Tracks so I'm gonna give that a try instead.

GPS Report

Forget all the hype on GPS issues... I've been traveling between PA and NY without any other means of navigation help for the past 3 days...relying solely on my GS2 to get me to and fro many destinations and is yet to fail me... I know, pretty risky and I myself even doubted it's reliability considering we've all been stuck on "searching for satellite " at one point or another, but I'm pleased to say that this device performed well above expectation.... Running Unnamed 1.3.1.... share your thoughts on whether or not you'd put road trip on the hands of this beast.

I would definitely rely on my gs2 for navigation. I already have used it a bunch and its been completely flawless. Its so smooth and fast and pretty accurate. My only complaint would be that if you get in an area where theres no data, you might be in trouble. Other than that, it works really well and I would trust it without question.
I can say from my captivate that thing was not reliable however my gs2 has never let me down once!

Charlie

I have replaced my GPS with my GS2.
The Infuse had almost replaced it but it was semi-"meh", but the GS2 is rock solid.
My only worry is the data dependency - but I've got a Wilson amp in my car and the end result is incredible. I get 3-4 bars of 3G in rural areas I used to barely get 1 bar of EDGE in.
I wouldn't hesitate to use it for travel. It's rock solid compared to the Captivate it replaced. The GS2 locks fasts and stays locked.
If I trusted my 3gs for years I can definitely trust this one which I have ever since I got it.
I am actually in love with the navigation on this device.
My GPS has worked great. When I'm not using navigation, I use it as a speedometer
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using Tapatalk
i wrote a speedo app that shows my speed in the notification bar while i'm navigating. Any interest in that? I'm thinking about publishing it on the market.
Bob
The only thing I don't like is that it clearly has static navigation enabled, which makes it suck for geocaching.
Gonna have to figure out where I put my Oregon 300...

Which amp? Using an external antenna?
I'm kind of rural myself, and with all the hills around me, there are quite a few RF nulls. My only problem is that I'm not sure I could attach another antenna to my car without interfering with each other. Perhaps their "low profile" antenna (that seems to stay inside the car) would work.
Gary
Entropy, now you've got my mind going on a signal booster... any specific type you recommend??? Don't mean to go off topic here, but this is a game changer in my books..

Good GPS
SGS2 GPS has been pretty good for me except in a couple of places where ATT signal has been bad.
Same here. Running unnamed and drove from DC to NYC. The GPS worked grrrrrrreat!

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0011GI94Q is the amp I use.
I have the outer antenna near the rear of the roof of my Subaru, with the inner antenna velcroed to my dash. I have my Samsung car dock set up so the phone is RIGHT above the inner antenna.
People with sunroofs may have issues with the inner and outer antenna coupling to each other.
It really works best when the phone is within a foot or so of the antenna (esp. within a few inches)- any farther and the gains are not nearly as great. Putting in a higher-gain amp would ease this limitation - but in many vehicles would be even more likely to start oscillating due to feedback.
I'll try to take some pictures and post them this weekend - if I don't freeze while taking them.
It's pretty good so far.
Still evaluating the advantages/disadvantages and comparing with other portable GPS devices.
I've replace my GPS and my camera with my sgs2. This thing never seizes to amaze me.

GPS - yes.
Camera - no... No way it'll ever replace my K-5. Every time I've used the camera I've been sorely disappointed. It's better than any other mobile phone camera I've used before - but that's not saying much.
My GPS has saved me many many times. GS2 GPS for the win!
My phone has stock 2.3.6 with root. Other than that, it is totally stock. I use my phone in my job to provide GPS coordinates for natural gas tie-ins. Quite often when I open GPS test or GPS Status to get the coordinates, the GPS will locate 7 to 10 sats but will not lock on and give me my location. Re-booting the phone will solve the problem. Google Maps also does the same thing. I believe the phone was doing this before the update.
I don't know if it happens to you guys or not but me, yes, as soon as I reported "GPS works great so far", it let me down right away.
On my way home in the evening, turn H+ on, turn GPS on. While talking on the phone, I opened Maps and navigate home. Sitting in the car for 5', no sat. locked. Started driving until half way home, still not locked. Stopped in the parking lot, wait for signal again, 10' later, still not locked. Very frustrated! Grrrr

GPS issues

Bought a second hand TS a few days ago and overall I'm very pleased with it. My main aim was to use it for tracking my runs whilst listening to music over bluetooth. The music works well but GPS is very intermittent.
I use the GPS test app to monitor what's going on and while the watch is off my wrist I get a good GPS fix. However, as soon as I put it on my wrist it loses all reception. I've tried bending the strap to see if that's why it fails but it's not that.
Has anyone else had similar issues?
I know I'm lucky to have GPS working at all but it's next to useless if it won't work on my wrist!

Gear Fit2 - Auto recognize biking (and so on)? problem

Hi,
i bought a GF2 but i have a problem what i did not understand.
Alle reviews are talking about "auto reckonice" of some things like walking or biking. But there nothing happend if i go 3miles in the woods with my bike. The GF2 just count steps (who dosent happen if i biking). GPS is enabled.
If i understand that right i dont need to take my smarrphone with me if i do these. I just reset my band, but it is not better than before.
Where is my failure in that?

When i'm driving a car, GF2 says, that i'm biking - imo it's just bugged.
You drive to slow
I find out that the trigger for the tracker are 10 minutes. The Auto-feature dosent log the map... Thats only if you use "training"

Really? I've driven more than I care to lately and its never said I was biking. Are you driving on a bike path? On a more serious note that is very strange
Today o drive - with a car...16 years, but a car - ty work. There was no bike-tracking.
Next strange thing: There is no alarm clock in the Samsung Market if you dont have a samsung handy. WTF
I had it "autorecognize" my lawn mowing as biking the yesterday. Which i guess is an improvement, since I had decided the auto recognize was not working when it didn't pick up my 6 mile bike commute.
Another thing I have seen is that it seems to just scrap ALL gps data for a tracked workout if it can't make a connection when you finish the workout. So I need to start finishing before I enter the garage at work.
There is a bug. If you use these "Auto" Track Feature there will be no Data about the route inside.
Screen ist german (sry ) but you can see that the track is 0km....GPS was enabled
I am having a similar problem. I notice that my GearFit 2 is logging driving in traffic as biking. Even though I have Auto-Recognize exercise set to OFF. Several days now I have an hour of biking completed before I get out of the car for work! Samsung tech support was grasping at straws, wanted me to disable "steps". I said that if I have to manually start and stop step recording of steps to as the solution to my issue then I will be returning the device and moving on to a different manufacturer. But I like the GearFit 2 even more than the original! 'cept for this small hiccup.
