App that monitors data usage by day of month - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for an app that tracks the data usage and only warn me if I go too fast respectively to the day of the month.
For simplicity lets say for example that my plan has 9GB each month and the bill cycle is on the 1st of each month (reset).
Assuming that there is 30 days each month, it means that I have 300MB to spend each day.
So, if its the 15th to the month I want to be warned only if I pass the 4.5GB (half month = half plan)
If its the 29th, I want to be warned only if I pass the 9.7GB..
If its the 1st, I want to be warned only if I pass the 300MB..
And so on..
So the warning trigger changes automatically respectively to the day of the month (according to the cycle day).
I'm a developer so I'm considering building such app by my own but before that I wanna hear some people about it.
1. Does anyone know some app that do something similar to this?
2. Is this sounds like something you think you might like? Or even want?
Thanks ahead,

Just wondering...

Just ordered my XDA (yeah i know the XDA II is coming but i need something now, not in a month or two..) and i've got 50 'free' mins xnet per month, 500 texts and 0.5mb of GPRS in the deal - question is, how do i know how much i've used?
Is there some cunning software to monitor usuage on a monthly basis on the phone itself? Would be handy. If not, i could write some myself (i'm a C++ developer by living) i suppose, so long as the API exposes the right info...
Just thinking out loud
hey...
yeah i am in the same boat, i asked this a week ago...

there is no direct sortware ...if you right something, i would love to have a copy
thanks

If you load the SE.12 rom you have a byte counter handy that you can reset each month.(actually this is in the original ROM as well)
You can also see a total amount of call time incoming and outgoing in settings>device information>call duration.
In inbox>sent items there is a total sent at the bottom.
Now it is annoying that these are all over the place and need to be reset.
So theoretically you could write a very handy app.
You can also check all this info on the awful O2 website. However I still get charged around double what I was expecting each month.
Oh and forget about the promise that they will text you if you get near any of your included limits. To be fair though I think this is standard bull$hit for all networks for obvious reasons.
Does anyones network actually send these alerts????????

the only thing that may fit the bill is a thing called Spb GPRS monitor, it will record usage, send warnings, is a convenient way of connecting and disconnecting, it has the tariffs - which are updateable - built in. a very useful piece of software which unfortunately with most things useful has to be paid for. but then a c++ developer could possibly write something similar.

WiFi tether/hotspot and Xbox 360

Alright, so I finally broke down and got the WiFi adapter for my Xbox off eBay. They are still pretty expensive used, I paid $42 and that's a good deal for the genuine Microsoft ones.
Anyways, I'm having issues getting it to work with any app I try. It will connect to my phone, one time out of 7 it will connect to internet, but never to Xbox live.
I get horrible data at my house so I'm thinking ill take it to work tonight and test it there. Usually get maybe 8kb/s on average. Once got 1.4 mb and was hoping it would stick, but sadly, no.
Anyone with experience tethering have any advice, apps that have worked for u, settings to try, etc.? I know about the generic ics mode.
Alright, so not all at once. I know everyone is going to flood this thread as soon as I submit! Lol. Thanks for helping a fellow XDAer out!
Clear out Sprint's proxy settings if you haven't, something in their network blocks a lot of xbl content and multi player
Where is it at? I was trying to clear the NAT settings, but can't figure out where it is. It doesn't matter if sprint limits me. I got it working and highest tether speed I can get is 500kbps. Pretty sweet to me. Wasn't expecting to do multi-player until LTE comes this winter sometime.
Then ill really be sticking it to my friends on Verizon! Lol. How's that limited data plan doing ya? I did 50 terrabytes last month, haha!

How in the heck do you do 50TB and not send out any warning signals.
I don't remember what I did exactly, it's been a long time since I've used sprint for xbl

I was saying once we get LTE I can do that. Xbox live multiplayer burns a lot of data. I'm sure u could do some significant usage in a month.
Today, downloading updates for dishonored, madden and Xbox maintenance I downloaded 50 mbs. That's with pretty bad 3g (3kb-500kb/ps).
I played regularly and never even crossed 50GB, i was tethering on an old phone, I forget which but I was only paying 40 back when it was 60 and I crossed my limit every month, not once did it go back up to 60 or did I get hassled for over use. I miss that, I averaged 20GB-50GB a month

Can't u see using more when the speeds are 8mb/s and up? I don't even think about multiplayer now with frequently lower than dial-up speeds.
Unlimited data is unlimited data. Or it is supposed to be. I don't plan on being like the boys on southpark in the wow episode, playing online 24/7. I hate call of duty now and that's really the only type of game on Xbox u can really play like that.
Although having my mom bring me the diarrhea bucket and hold it to my ass while I'm playing is tempting. Have to fly her down from cincy so its probably not worth it.
U guys tried playing nonstop for days on end? Last time I did it was for GTA: San Andreas. Played it for 3 days on maybe 4 hours sleep and eating only hash browns and hot pockets. Only got up to use the bathroom. Awesome game for the time though. Actually called out of work that week as well. Had "pneumonia". Got my friends mom to write me a doctor's note since she was an RN or something.
Stopping the endless rabble. Sound like grandpa Simpson.
Well back then it wasn't unlimited data, Sprint capped at 5GB and I not only crossed the limit, I destroyed the limit

I highly doubt you played gta for four days, and its insulting too me and the few others who hold the guiness record for longest gaming session on android. The diarreah quote, ok funny, but no need too exaggerate, i have insomnia and its a really messed up thing too have and i k ow a regular person couldnt do four days without drugs, especially considering the xbox world record is like 36 hours... liar.
I miss the endurance challenge I used to go to. Big competition once a year, 2 weeks long and once your clan was in you played nonstop until your clan was eliminated or your clan was too exhausted. The last 2 clans standing would go at it to determine the winner. Then we got awarded most kills, longest playtime before respawning, highest scores etc. They had this big ass water cooler shaped and painted to look like a bottle of Bawls Guarna. Tony finally shut down in 2007
Calling me a liar of a stupid Xbox game? I did play it for 4 days. Go duck yourself. Maybe fell asleep playing it and I wasn't on drugs thank u.
Sorry I don't give a chit about Xbox guineas records. I could do it again and put it on YouTube? U believe me then?
Actually xbl only uses up to 50 mb/hr. This is rather small because you can download 3-4 apps off the market for that much.
I wouldn't abuse the lte signal when you get it, or you'll find yourself excluded from the sprint network. Also you'll be hogging the bandwidth from that tower, so everyone else on sprint in your area will get slower speeds.

Well technically that stick is owned by sprint and can be used against u in any gaming competition sponsored in part by Xbox live. Any attempt at breaking the endurance challenge will resort in stick being reversed into the space time continuum. Thus, molecular fusion is supplanted into a black hole in which deep space sucks up 1tb/s resulting in your contract being TERMINATED!
In any event you summon the Terminator to your legal team Apple will sue you for copyright infringement. In which any case the judges will be bought and you will lose your soul to Satan aka Steve Jobs incarnate.
Thanks for choosing Sprint and the Next Year Network. Have a Happy Hanukkah! Muhalo!

+1 xbl hardly uses any data. My gold subscription expired back in April haven't needed to renew it yet, but used it for almost 2 yrs on og EVO and it never used that much data, I would venture and say 50 mb per hour might even be on the high side
I really hate Microsoft right now
Yup played halo 3 a while back at my friends brothers apartment and he didn't have internet yet so I popped out my og WiFi tethered that bish and started owning people. Anyways when we were playing it didn't really use that much data and we didn't even lag (I was surprised)

From iPhone for 4+ years to LG OG

Hello all,
Long term lurker, decided to finally register and just give a few points about my experience for those that are still on the fence about the LG Optimus G.
I personally love this phone, I've had the iPhone for a while moving from the 3g to 3gs to the 4 and handled the 4s plenty (wifes phone) and the iPhone 5 did not impress me much. I won't go into what I felt was lacking in the iPhone but mention my hesitation(s) on coming to android and specifically this phone.
The biggest reason I was hesitant was that the phone came with ICS with a "planned upgrade" in the future. This is a not an issue IMO- if you are thinking of coming from iPhone to android ICS is more than sufficient and you will be more than happy with it. The phone is very snappy and smooth, no hesitation. If you want Jelly bean just to have Jelly bean you can either be patient with it (like i will be) or root your phone so I really think both parties can be satisfied with this issue. The ICS issue is definitely a non issue for me after playing with the phone and seeing how snappy it is.
The screen is great, I get compliments all the time but sunlight visibility is an issue (it's an issue with the iPhone as well) so that is just something to think about if you are out in the sun a lot etc. It's a minor issues for me but can be a bigger problem for others. Going to the issue where it gives the error regarding its inability to brighten any further due to temperature it rarely happens for me-even when it does most of the time it goes to 87% which is still pretty bright. It is a little annoying sometimes that while on the phone you see it dim as the brightness level lowers automatically without you wanting it too. It is what it is.
LTE is great (my fastest speed in Atl area was 57 download 21 upload!!!), my average speeds have been about 20 download 13 upload. I also love google maps and its navigation feature where it literally is a GPS-even better IMO as it shows a picture of your destination on your phone as you arrive (from google street view-it even shows my home as i pull up if i select to give me directions to my place), I thought that was pretty neat and very handy when you head to a restaurant or a friends home etc you haven't been to.
I knew an issue going in would be accessories, and it sucks that many waited for the Otter box to come out but it only fits Sprint. I went ahead and purchased the body glove from the ATT store and I'm pretty happy with it. Thank God I haven't "tested" its protection yet but it seems like it would do well from a fall.
Battery life was pretty bad at first and took time to adjust, especially coming from an iPhone. After numerous full charge and discharge cycles (about 5 days worth) the battery life greatly improved! I use my phone a lot, mainly texting (minimum 40 outgoing texts a day i'd say), maybe 30 minutes of phone calls a day and a lot of browsing/checking my email and it lasts a whole day. I keep my phone on the quad core setting (i rarely go to "eco mode") and its highest brightest setting with gps on and sync feature off and by midnight my phone would be around 35-40%.
I was on gsmarena, phone arena etc religiously seeing if I should pull the trigger on this phone as I was eligible for an upgrade and wanted to get a phone that would last 2 years. I thought about waiting till the next samsung flagship phone comes but that would have been at least 6 months I believe and with ATT it seems I can get an upgrade every 18 or so months so I feel it is best for me to upgrade my line ASAP whenever possible. Bestbuy had the phone at 99 bucks thanksgiving week and that was when I pulled the trigger.
Overall I'm very very happy with my phone :good: and my first android experience on a phone (i have a tablet)
For those that are hesitant like i was, you will not be disappointed.
A side note for those that may be able to answer two questions for me: can I put my contacts facebook profile pic as their pic in my contacts? I have everything synced to "on" from my sync settings on my system settings to my contacts to facebook saying to sync but it only loads a couple to my contacts (about 5%)
Also for group messages I send out, can I receive texts in that same group message I sent?
Welcome to Android. Enjoy

Search the play store for an app called "haxsync." It'll do what you want regarding contact pictures.
As for group messages, I don't use those so I cannot comment.

Lol what... He wrote a very long general post and tagged two small questions to the end. This isn't a question thread is perfectly acceptable where it he posted it.
That said uninstall Facebook clear contact data. Give Google a couple minutes to do is thing after manually syncing. Then reinstall Facebook manually create the account in accounts and sync and then sync it and your contact pictures should update just fine.
To answer your question about group text messages (a la iPhone,) the stock Android Messages app doesn't do that. However, Go SMS Pro or Handcent are two SMS/MMS replacement apps and work great. I use Go SMS Pro and there's an option to enable the group texting/MMSing.
That's one great example of the power of Android... Don't like a stock app? Replace it!

Smartwatch 1, worth it "new" for $50 or better pass on it?

Hi!
A Local is selling the Smartwatch 1, he claims is new, and is asking $60 so I will offer $50 if you guys think is still worth it.
I am doing some research on it but since usually reviews are from the original time it came out and things are fixed later one...so i am looking for more recent experiences.
Thanks!
Honestly, I'd go for it - why not! Aside from a few reported issues with UI lag and general fragmentation/inconsistencies between apps, at $50, it makes for a great little tinker device, even if you do eventually end up throwing it in the drawer a few months down the track!
Best of luck
I saw a review made not that long ago in July 2013 so I hope it shows the latest updates and I actually liked what I saw!
It will be a good way to see if I like that concept before spending a lot more on SW2
$50 isn't much for a "smart"watch, so I'd go for it. And like Supjackary says, it's a great little gizmo that you can tinker with. Maybe root it, install Omni and play SimCity on it. Or not, but in the worst case scenario, you've paid 50 bucks for a watch. Still worth it.

Cool. I am getting it tomorrow!
I do have a concern...battery life...is it going to drain the phone battery quickly? I read that it does not even show a clock without being connected so that means and always connected bluetooth to work.
I just checked. It has Bluetooth 3.0, and what we want is 4.0 (BLE or Bluetooth Low Energy). That might be a problem
Sony says the SW will last you 1 week with light usage, 3-4 days with medium usage and 1 day with heavy usage. I'm not sure what the differences are? Is light usage to get five notifications and heavy usage is getting 8? I have no idea
Either way, your Ultra will probably notice a small drop in battery, but I don't know how much.

It is not a great watch... SMARTWATCH2 is a killer one though, but expensive
He decided not to sell it now but I saw him post version 2 for sale..asking 160...will try to lowball him to see if I get lucky lol
He will take $120 for the SW 2 or I can get the one used for $60...decisions decisions...

Hmm, i have no idea If you have some money to spare, then i can't see why you couldn't get the SW 2. The SW 2 also has Bluetooth LE, plus i guess there's more activity around it, i.e more apps on the Play Store and i guess it'll probably receive an update or two in the future.
But again, i really don't know I guess you'll have to get the one you want

[Q] Youtube ate all my data plan

In one day the Youtube app crunched away at the remaining of my available data plan (approx. 708 MB) without even opening/using it.
What is more worrying is that all of that data was background stuff, wtf could youtube have been communicating I can't imagine ?
I had preloading on but I haven't added anything to the lists in ages.
Needless to say I turned the sucker off but the question remains and so does my anger since I really needed the data plan.
