Bruhh, download an app called "Hidden Settings" open it, open "testmenu" or some sh*t like that, & then phone info, then click the top right corner (3dots) icon, then switch ur bands, try hotswapping the sim card, try downloading another carriers modem files, using Hiemendall on a linux box, there are ways, as somebody JUST recently reported this phone booting up T-Mobile just by simply sticking a T-Mobile SIM into the slot .

This is advice from a dude currently stuck in Setup Wizard, using it as a wifi hotspot somehow? ahahahahaha :laugh::laugh::laugh::good:

Okay do you have it rooted bro? I couldn't open my hidden settings app until I rooted with kingoroot, + used root essentials to open it , there may be some build.prop or CSC edits needed to handle other SIM cards or enable the ability to connect to those carriers APN. I have not tried any other SIM cards yet, as I need to fix an LG G2 to have a hotspot lol.

google an app called "Super-sume" & then afterwards, download SuperSu & update the binary using the "normal" method, reboot just to make sure you have the most stable root available,
for the hidden menu download "root essentials" app, open your "device info" there will be yet another link to the hidden menu app, opens like a charm on mine.

forgive me for pushing but are u sure to update binary with supersu? i have read others bricking thier device with the process and as u know we done have custom recovery so no back-ups no stock firmware. have u tried updating the binary with supersu on ur sm-j100vpp and succeed without bricking? thanks so far

You need to specifically google and download from some 3rd party site (i can only find the pro on play store for some reason) an app called "Super-SUme"
And run that, then download SuperSU, I believe the exact version I use is the v2.46 (forced system mode) one but have also downloaded the recent play store release as I literally have to root everytime I want out of setupwizard mode -.-.
No worries bro, like I said you could try the "Root Essentials" app with KingoRoot to just open that hidden menu specifically, I just know it won't open without root access, you may need to mount /system as RW even? I do these all by default so forgive me for not being a little more detailed lol.
I'm around if u hit any snags.

I'm still unsure of how well you know a TouchWiz setup, but I think you can tell the issue with everything is the locked down bootloader & the fact that it booted T-Mobile instead of VZW, is very weird, personally I'd love some logs to see if there's any difference in the loader, because it obviously knew when it was rooted LOL

Need help so lost try to make it as short as possible.
Phone Info:
- Samsung Galaxy S4 Verizon
- Model SCH-I545
- Build JSS15J.I545VRUEMK2
- Android 4.3
Ok, I tried Rooting my Phone and I use the Soft Root that was linked by someone on the forums. Gave me SuperUser Icon and used a app that checks to see if its Rooted and said it was. Now tried using some Root app's like GameCih and it tells me I need Root Admin or Root Privileges, something to that nature, and cant use the app. Iv been trying to remove that Soft Root but cant Figure it out. Used Odin3 and redid that .tar file for my Build. All when good and got everything the same as a fresh phone, but booting up still has the Pad Lock Icon and Custom logo on it and SuperU Icon. So I cant seem to unroot it, Tried to use the I545ALL-IN-ONE-TOOL posted on these forums but cant get it to working.
So what I need so to get this unrooted and back to factory default, and Rooted the right way, with I545ALL-IN-ONE-TOOL??. Please Help

Did you flash the no wipe tar?...if so use the full wipe tar file...you will lose your app data but it will restore to 100% full unrooted mdk...the all in one will work after that

That is what I used is the Saferoot, wasnt sure of the name, but just looked it up and thats what i have on my pc. Also I dont know how to flash it.. do I use the same Odin3 program for that? or is there another method.(Also is the Full wipe a different tar file?)
Edit: Ok I got it Flashed and back to stock now is there anything other then SafeRoot? that did not work the first time I tried it.

There are a few other methods...but I don't know them...I do know the other methods safety and security was questionable... Hence saferoot was made by trusted devs here...it should work...all the posts I have seen said they got successful root...did you open the supersu app that was installed and allow it to update binaries?... That is a very important step...if you did then make sure if you try this method again you follow each step it tells you...I don't know exactly how the process goes as I'm on4.2.2 and have to use the all in one tool for root...good luck...if it doesn't work hopefully someone who can help will chime in

Nope, I have no idea what these applications do, but a quick search on the forums basically leads to the conclusion that they're not ready for 4.3.
Given the build you're running, you're stuck with SELinux Enforcing since you can't replace the kernel. You'll need to find something else to do whatever you're trying to do.

For sure. Knox can be reset and worked around at a later date so its really not a big deal but at the moment it will indicate 0x1 on the stock recovery indicating you have rooted your device.
What I want to know is how to get the Native hotspot working. My Galaxy tools APK is not doing the trick and the APN settings are completely different. anyone have this issue???

Can we see a screenshot of your apn's? They can be opened editable without msl if you change sales_code in galaxy tools to XAS and reboot phone.
Also a copy of the file after a ##scrtn#
Enter that in dialer and wait till phone reboots and finishes, then click enable native hotspot only once and post telephony.db.bk for me to see. (it will be in root of internal sdcard)

@chuxmix
Go see last couple posts in that thread, what helped the last user might help you too.
Well the apns look completely different and the ##scrtn# only forces me to reboot then reactivate then reboot all over again.

Everyones can look like that. Change sales_code like I said, reboot and they WILL open editable, and you will then be able to select/edit them. Or try the forced lte like I suggested in the other thread (and it worked for that user)
And the point of the scrtn was for you to grab that file. It resets your apns to default (deletes all but ota ones) then reboots and pulls new apns from the network.
Already XAS opened this but im not sure how to force the lte or what to edit it to??? ÷Edit. Woops i got it now!!! it was able to reset and i opened up the selected right after i clicked the Enable hotspot button and it had the ,dun already in place. Thanks Idone

You don't need to edit them, you thought your apns were different but they are not.
click enable hotspot in galaxy tools, wait 10 seconds or so, go into your apns and select ehrpd then select lte.
Now go test turning on hotspot.
The force lte setting is accessible through IOTHiddenmenu. I was just saying to do that if you go into apns and have none of them selected(because tethering requires one of the 2 internet apns to be active/selected) and sometimes the phone is weird and no apn is selected.
Thanks to a few memebers here for posting back. I went ahead and used CF AUTO ROOT to root the newest firmware. Below is screen shot in Odin mode.
Some issues to share;
First, if i want to use my home wifi, I have to reboot my phone for it to work. Can anyone confirm this?
Second, thanks to the galaxy tool, I now have hotspot again.
My issue here, it only allows one device to connect at a time. For the use of another device, I have to turn off one.

Hi,
First if you enjoy GalaxyTools consider buying me a drink.
Second in hotspot go to configure>scroll to bottom and select "show advanced options">scroll to bottom again> max user can be up to 8
If you have more devices I can give you command to send from terminal to try and increase it.. I've not enough wifi devices to test more than 8 sorry.
Good luck!

Yes just tested I can increase max users, will add this to GalaxyTools later today and post update.

Check out my post 4.4.4 ( Download Mode ) below, that I made right after I upgraded to 4.4.4, now check out the post above. Is that number (4) a flash counter ?
I have since gone back to 4.4.2, there's to many problems with 4.4.4. So is anyone rooted with 4.4.4 that can check this out ?
Does it reset if you unroot the device and go back to official stock ?
I was reading your post aswell.
I only flashed/rooted this phone yesterday using odin3 v3.07 and noticed you can't uncheck F.reset time. Now, my binary and sytem says custom.
See below screen shot.
I am not running a custom recovery.

G3 Update

I just received a Android update in my notification menu. I am rooted and running a custom recovery (twrp). I know I cannot accept the update but I can't swipe it away. Anyone know how I can get the update removed from my notification menu?
Have you tried long pressing on the notification and disabling notifications?

Thanks for the thumbnail. I did find it in TB and froze it but I'm still getting the update notification in my notification pull down.
Did you restart the phone after
that may work
Don't know if this will work or not, but on the Galaxy S3 the way to stop getting nagged about an OTA was to edit build.prop and replace all references to the old ROM with the new one. So you could try making a backup of build.prop, then edit all references to ZV4 and change them to ZV6. Save the file, make sure permissions are set to rw-, r--, r-- (0644), and reboot.
I would strongly suggest making a nandroid backup first.
Here's how I have been doing it:
1. Download Autorun Manager
2. In settings under advanced enable view services
3. Go to Google Services Framework and disable update...see below.
At your own risk if you decide to try it, of course.
Sent from my LGLS990 using XDA Free mobile app
This is the recommended way. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=57182591
If the update has already downloaded. Disabling the OTA still wont get rid the the notification. Easy way to get rid of it is long press it and go to app info. This will take you to Google Play Services. Simply uncheck show notifications and the system update in the pull down notifications will go away.
Just a temporary fix to get it out of the way. I reccommend just downloading a ZV6 rooted rom.

I have a question that I wanted to ask before I go any further. I bought a G3 last week, rooted it and installed twrp recovery, and have done multiple backups.. Had a hardware defect so I had to exchange my phone for another new one. I received a system update just now so I was going to accept the OTA update since its not rooted, completely stock. My questions are will I be able to root and instally twrp after this update and once I install all my apps, and if rooting and installing twrp is successful, can I restore my backup that I did on my other phone, even though its a different phone? Its from the same carrier and same model phone. Thanks for your feedback.

Don't take OTA. Root it and TWRP it. Then flash STOCK ROM ZV6 Deodexed or Odexed, then you'll be up to date and keep root with TWRP.

Galaxy Alpha AT&T G850A Rooted!

I know this is not the best way to do so but I successfully got my G850A AT&T variant rooted using Kingroot 4.8.0.
Also when I boot up the phone, the lock icon turned into an open lock icon with the text "custom." Does that mean my bootloader has been unlocked?
I would like to install custom ROMs but had no luck installing twrp. Any ideas? I can try anything since this is a dead phone to me anyway.
If it is true, try SLTECAN twrp

That didn't work out. "SECURE DOWNLOAD" is enabled in download mode and when I try to flash the recovery it tells me "check fail: recovery." I guess the bootloader is still locked. Is there any way I could still install a custom ROM? Root is working fine.
Try install flashify app then try twrp with it

There's no recovery image for it. The SLTECAN is only flashable via Odin which is not possible with the G850A.
Although I think we could get custom ROMs using Flash Fire if someone can port the ROMs to 850A. See: http://forum.xda-developers.com//at...tmas-heres-t3516196/post70011921#post70011921
You can create .img from tar or .tar from .img
Open tar.md5 with 7zip, extract .img to phone and use flashify, tell us if worked
Everyone thumbs up the post

Flashing 850W TWRP soft-bricks the device with the message "System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless has been on the device ..." blah blah blah. I think a Safestrap recovery is better suited for this phone.

Can you give us a tutorial guide on how to do it. Most of us (including me) have tried the version of king root that your using and it fails to root.
However, you have given us stuck with the AT&T variant of this phone a little bit of hope, as you confirmed it can be rooted.

http://forum.xda-developers.com//at...tmas-heres-t3516196/post70011921#post70011921 I used this guide, with Kingroot 4.8.0 instead of Kingroot 4.8.1 but I don't think it matters. The guide did say that you should keep trying until you get it to root. I got root successfully first try, twice, however.

I got the same thing. I've heard AOSP ROMs are not going to work because of the locked bootloader. And TouchWiz ROMs will work if you port in an AT&T boot image making it "authorized."

And there's an S5 version of Safestrap but it only works with a Kitkat kernel. It might work with the Alpha since they have basically the same specs. I might try it in the future.
Does the Kingroot version matter? I tried this with Kingroot 5.0.0 instead of 4.8.0, and while it seems to initially fail, it actually does work. Verified with Root Checker and Kingroot itself was able to give root access to apps. However, it appears to cause certain apps like Camera (Samsung's) and S Health to fail. Uninstalled Kingroot and everything was working again (albeit unrooted).

You have to use 4.81 because later versions do not allow you to remove it and replace it with SuperSU.
OMG
IT ACTUALLY WORKED! I tried it twice and on the second time it worked. I am so happy! Now to find a custom rom for it!
I reverted to KitKat and rooted it so that I could use Xposed lol

My AT&T Galaxy Alpha is running KitKat right now. I'll post the firmware as soon as I can (probably somewhere around 12:00PM Eastern) tomorrow up to mega.nz for all to use
Edit: Firmware now up: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-alpha/general/samsung-galaxy-alpha-att-sm-g850a-t3535938
Mine lost root access after a couple of days.

Install Kingoroot for pc.
Enable USB debugging on your phone and connect it with pc using USB cable.
Open Kingoroot, enable your net connection and click Remove Root button being displayed.
Wait for the process to complete.
By the way, if your concern is that payment apps like Samsung Pay are not working on a rooted phone, why don't you install xposed framework and use RootCloak.
RootCloak is a xposed module which prevents apps from discovering root privileges on a phone.
That's what I did when payment apps stopped functioning on my phone.

Yeah, if you can't unroot it you must flash it. It seem there is no tarball file available yet. Have you try to reflash stock rom using samsung kies?
