Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 WIFI only (2014 Edition): CUSTOM Recovery - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So first of all I want to say I'm new to this forum and hope this is the right place to post this. I am despairing right now. I spent the entire day trying to flash a custom recovery to my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 WIFI only (2014 Edition). I also searched a lot on the internet but everyone seems to have a different problem than me.
So i've gone through the whole process of flashing (with odin and also tried with Heimdall). Everything seems to go fine and even odin says everthing went good. But then i turn off the device and try to enter my supposedly successfully flashed custom recovery and then the "Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1" just stays there forever and nothing happens. I can boot normally and also in download mode.
Then I tried to flash TWRP with the official app (which I downloaded from the playstore) and the same thing happend except that this time i could not even boot normally. So i flashed the stock android version with odin and was able to boot normally again and in the stock recovery mode. But I would really like to get this working properly. I would really appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.
Btw Sorry for and mistakes Enlish is not my mother tongue

If you can find your device codename, you can probably get yourself a good headstart

Did you make sure that the TWRP was for your specific model not a similar one?
A different letter can cause such issue.

Yes I did. And if you open the TWRP App it even shows the device model no: lt03wifiue (which was exactly the device number I downloaded TWRP for). I made sure that I download exactly that number again and the same "bootloop" happend. I even tried to download an older version (but for the same device number) but I still got the same results. I don't know what I'm doing wrong

Now that you know the codename of the device, use odin! Asking, I've seen people say that that app has shown the incorrect codename and bricked their devices.

hmm okay well that's interesting. I tried flashing the custom Recovery with odin 3 times. and it always succeeded. But then whenever I turn on my tablet and try to boot it into recovery mode I get stuck at the "Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1" screen and nothing happens. It's really frustrating because everthing seems to go fine and then it doesn't work. If I at least got an error I could search for the specific error and fix it.
Do you think it would solve my problem if I flash the stock recovery again and completely wipe my tablet with all data and then try to flash the custom recovery?

Perhaps it'd work. Just, does it say "recovery booting" or something similar at that note screen?

Ok, you have root, right?
Try with Flashify app, download the TWRP image and place it in your storage and flash it with Flashify app.

Yes, I do and I did everthing you said. Flashify app also said successfully flashed. And Rebooted. Once again same error. "Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1" Screen and nothing happens.
Edit: I now got a boot loop and can not enter recovey mode or normal boot mode. I can enter download mode so I think I can flash stock android with odin but my problem (that I can't flash a custom recovery) is still there.

Ok, have you tried CWM? (if available)
Also is your model number is sm-p600?
It should written with the tablet name in "white font" as you said.

I know. I don't know why this is happening. Didn't think that flashing a custom recovery could be so difficult and troubling.
Btw I flashed stock android an everthing is working fine again.
I will search if CWM is available and will try to flash it if it is although I personally like TWRP a lot more :/

That's the issue
The recovery you're flashing is for the p600 not for the n8010.
I will look for your recovery and post it later, right now I'm in a math lesson

Man thanks sooo much. I can't thank you enough for your time and patience. I tried to accomplish this for 2 days and was nearly giving up. Looking back, it was a stupid mistake but I saw "Galaxy Note 10.1 Wifi" and thought this would be the right one. Once again thank you so much man. You made my day.

I'd try using Odin to flash the stock firmware for your phone (Can be found on Samfirmware).

Are you able to get into recovery mode still? For download mode make sure your holding down the correct key combination to get into download mode. You can also try using a USB Download jig which you can get from here, which when plugged into the phone will force the phone into download mode. As a fair warning the download jig's don't usually work with newer model phones but for a couple bucks it's worth a try. Let me know if you still have questions.
Motherboard dead?
Sorry to invade this post. I would just like to have confirmation on my device and it's pretty similar to what is found here. The only way I can access download mode is by pressing Q+Power and then adding the battery. Odin connects to everything, I can even flash the firmware from Bell for my Galaxy gt-i5510M and it PASS. But I can't still power it up, is the motherboard or something similar dead?
Thanks

If your device can still access download mode and Odin can successfully connect to your device an flash the firmware your device's motherboard is not dead. Try re-flashing the firmware to your device and checking auto-reboot option in Odin this way when the firmware finishes flashing the device will automatically reboot and hopefully power on then.
Thanks for the fast answer, you've been answering 3 people back on this thread, impressive.
Unfortunately I made sure of that, the auto reboot was checked but it doesn't reboot the device. I wanted to put a screenshot but I didn't realize you need around 10 posts to be able to post outside links. I've been looking through xda for a while but never posting.
I'm used to adb, so Odin is a bit new I have to admit. I've put the ops file, callisto in this case, in the appropriate ops , and then the One Package file I got from samfirmware "I5510UGKC5_I5510BMCKC5_BMC". Is there something else I could flash? It wouldn't be like some other phones where I could put down a Custom Recovery, go back to stock, etc. ?

To clarify did you put the firmware in the correct slot in Odin (PDA slot in this case) when flashing? Also double check your flashing the correct firmware for your device, as that could also be part of the problem.
Well you figured some things that were wrong. I was putting it in the one package slot. So I tried in the PDA slot, but it said "Invalid Image Type". From the sticker inside the battery compartment, it does say it's the GT-I5510M, so the 551 from Bell Canada it seems. But it's not easy to find a firmware for it, and the only one I found is at sammobile. There's plenty others under GT-I5510, but they're all European.
Any idea what I could use instead? The full name of the firmware I have is: "I5510UGKC5_BMCKC5_HOMEDOWNLOAD_TEST.tar" or "I5510UGKC5_I5510BMCKC5_BMC.zip" for the zip.
Thanks a lot for following this.

You can try ignoring the "Invalid Image Type" error and trying to flash anyway just don't unplug your phone from Odin until it fully completes the process.

I did, but didn't work, I should have mentioned that. So the screen is still blank. But another driver got recognized and installed once the firmware was installed, Samsung com 3 if I remember well. I was hoping when I saw that!

With the new COM port being recognized try the procedure again and see if it has any different results.
sorry to interrupt you people.. but are you sure that it is a proper firmware file. because the pda file is .tar file. also, try entering the recovery mode and flashing a cwm recovery. then check if the system is mounted.
Sorry I've been away, meaning no phone and laptop with me. Thanks for the replies. I tried to flash again the firmware last week but nothing happened unfortunately.

I can't access recovery mode, only download mode by simultaneously putting the battery back in and pushing Q+Power. But I am wondering also if it could be a wrong firmware... Can I just flash a custom rom through Odin? Would that make up for it? Anything to having back in working order.

I broke something AKA GOD DAMNIT

So today I bought Galaxy ace after having galaxy 5, which I rooted and flashed a ton of times. I picked this phone up, found a cm7 rom, tried to install it. It didn't work, it showed me errors ( I learned that you need to delete some code somewhere in the .zip file ). I tried again. It installed correctly but I couldn't boot normally, it was stuck on the starting screen. OK I thought, it could be normal, I'll just reinstall it. I did that and guess what. NOTHING. I have no idea what to do, I tried flashing with odin, but odin 4.[something] didn't even detect it and odin3 3.07 detected them but was stuck on SetupConnection... At that moment I lost hope.
How do I fix this mess
Thank you

As for clockwork mod, its a temporary one so you will have to flash cwm everytime you need to use it.

[Q] SII stops at the very first screen

Hi,
My S2 was working perfectly and I put it on charge. About 15mins later I walked past and noticed it was displaying just the very first screen ie the one you see as soon as it starts and says Galaxy S2. Tried all the usual things like removing battery etc. I thought I might have a corrupted ROM so I have re-flashed it with Odin and whilst that was successful it is still at the same screen. I flashed it with the Australian XSA ROM. I can get it into flash mode but nothing else.
Anyone have any further thoughts?

OK thanks for the quick reply. Tried to get there but what happens is the android appears with his whirling blue bit....then it goes to black and the samsung galaxy s 2 screen again appears and thats where it stays. The only mode it will go into is the flash rom mode. In other words vol up plus power and home buttons does the above whereas vol down plus home and power gets me successfully to the rom flash screen.

The only other thing I can think of is to flash a .tar recovery from download mode(vol down+home+power).
Try the modified kernel from philz HERE You will need to match the kernel to the rom version, read carefully particularly the 2nd and 3rd posts
Just untick reboot on finish in odin and once you succesfully flash the kernel try to enter recovery from power off. Good luck
Another question

Yes, thats the kernel you need. Just get the .tar version of the kernel and flash in download mode(vol down, home, power). I'm hoping you can get a working recovery to give you a few more options. It may not work, as I suspect you have filesystem corruptions or something, but try that anyway
OK ...will try that in a few days ...again, thanks for the help

Stuck at Recovery and can't boot android

So I just installed the 0.2.3 cm 12 beta rom on and since I was giving my galaxy light to a friend I decided to do a factory reset so when I did that the phone rebooted and now its stuck at the twrp recovery splashscreen. I've already tried rebooting and re-flashing twrp but no luck. Could it be a cache problem or something? Thanks to all in advance who reply.

Im guessing you wiped device and if you go into recovery and try to reboot system it will tell you no os installed if that is the case you can plug device into computer and still use twrp as file manager thats if you had a backup stored on desktop or drag a CM zip to device .
other method of course would be to enter download mode and use odin to flash stock firmware for your device not sure if you have t399 or the N varient lastest beening OH2/OH3 you can find that in my filehost i have stock odin zips to flash.

I used the download from this guide by ShabbyPenguin: http://androidforums.com/threads/guide-restore-your-galaxy-light-to-stock-mja.846767/
Hey guys...I did the same thing but my t399 must have lost battery charge because when I picked it back up, it was dead...I plugged in and it started flashing the Samsung screen slowly at me. It would not reboot. I did get download and twrp to show up and start to atleast work enough to flash and Odin again...I used Shabby's kernel source and it is still doing the same thing after flashing through Odin. Still stuck on Samsung screen slowly flashing and recovery shows no operating system. I'm about to put it back in a drawer but I feel it's so close that I had to ask for help. I flashed shabby work to root and recovery. I flashed twrp 2.7 and the cm12 beta rom. Then back to shabby guide to get it to recognize, it did..kind of..but still boot looped. Flashed 3 times... No changes. Can anyone help or is it time for a staircase? hA!
Oh yes .. I don't think the battery is bad.. I checked it with a meter and it reads voltage. It does get pretty hot while I'm working on it though and my pc shows its charged at 100% but the phone doesn't show that...it stays in like dead mode. Nit recognizing again. Anybody have suggestions? In recovery it also indicated it can not locate most of my files in read after I flash.. what am I doing wrong.
sgh-399n bootloop
It's taken me 2 months to cry for help. I'm not a complete noobie, but I'm completely exhausted. First of all, one morning I woke up and I thought that somehow my battery was dead. It wasn't. Eventually, I found it in a bootloop. This phone was working fine, running a "Tiger_Lilly" ROM the night before. I've tried everything using Odin, adb and fastboot (I'm not sure how to get the phone in fastboot mode and also, before using Odin, TWRP wouldn't mount/data.) I'm stumped. Would appreciate some help, thank you.
HELP...!!!

What was you using prior to it bootlooping and what rom was installed have you modifed anything else such as partions etc...
also list your method and link rom your trying. just wondering if its the lastest version for device. while in odin also make sure Auto Reboot” and “F. Reset Time is only selected and what version of odin are you using?
If your unable to flash any rom thru odin then there must be a major problem else where until we can narrow it down no one can assist you.
hi good morning, i actually dont know the prior version of the SW, i am using the available version on sammobile of the sw and i am trying odin to flash, ive already used odin 3.8 and 3.9 and the one that said it is configured to this phone in the thread.

i tried so many solutions, i odin this and that and nothing worked. i downloaded cwm 6.0.0.47 i think, and managed to install the AD rom, but now im stuck at languange selection, i cant select anything because screen support isnt working
what do i do now?
Samsung S3 i9300
You did "odin this and that"? That's never a good idea. Just saying...
I would try to flash latest AD again but with a proper up-to-date recovery e.g. latest TWRP after making a nandroid backup.

Well then, if you already flashed stock rom via odin, your data is already gone. Make sure your phone is working on stock first now. Please be aware that the first boot after each rom flash might take up to 15 min or so because the cache has to be built at first boot!
You can find the link to TWRP recovery in my signature (see My Gadgets). I suggest your read the tutorials that are linked there also for more information.
thanks again, glad to hear there's still hope. i will do as you advised.
So, in order to get stock firmware flashed and running, can i use twrp-2.8.6.1-i9300.tar from your signature?
1st i odin the twrp-2.8.6.1-i9300.tar, and then reboot into download mode, and odin firmware stock?
in that order? i havent done this in a long time, i've been using AD for so long without any problem, i dont really exactly remember how. i just concern about the touch screen not functioning, i really hope no hardware failures. i never experience anything like this, even in recovery mode, the touch screen doesnt work, i had to flash entire process using up/down and power button
right now i havent done anything since the last attempt ( flashed stock rom, and stuck at samsung logo )
currently., im charging the battery, will try get it up and running after the battery is full
thanks mate
