So this is the second time I noticed battery not charging over 80%. So those who put the phone in the water noticed moisture detected and can't charge. Samsung put a monitor on the charging port. So I'm guessing this monitor noticed phone is 2 hot from being in the sun. It got to 80% and that's it only says fast charging with no estimate. If leave it with charger it still won't charge and phone remains hot. When phone cools down it'll go above 80. I tried turning off while phone still hot, and still didn't charge

Probably a safe guard after the Note 7 mess.

Re: Battery Drain While Charging
Has anyone else experienced this?
This is the first time I've had this happen to me....
Sometimes while charging my phone....I'll leave it idle for maybe an hour, and when I go to check my messages, I notice I've lost 10% of my charge while the phones "charging."

Are you charging using the stock charger? USB cable?
That sure sounds like a bad charger... or you have some kind of hardware short? My phone only loses about 10% in 7-8 hours. I can't imagine it on a phone that is plugged in and charging.
I read somewhere that once the phone reaches 100% it discharges slightly in order to protect the battery. My phone drops down to 95% after it reaches 100% then charges back up to 100% again.

I think it may be a bad charger.....Because if I leave my phone idle on the home charger (It's the oem one) it will eventually lose battery power.
But on a sidenote, I have my phone plugged into my usb right now and it is charging appropriately. But whenever I use the phone to text, or whatnot, it either stays charged at the current percentage, or it slowly loses power (albeit 1-2% every 10 minutes)
I've never had any of these problems before
ive experienced this a couple times. i charge it over night and when i wake up in the morning its at like 96%. when that happens i just unplug it, and plug it back in and eventually charges to full and it stays that way. i dont know why that happens, and it happens sporadically so i can't pinpoint the exact cause

This is the norm for me.
I am experiencing a worse version of this problem... I no matter whether I plug my phone into the wall charger that came in the box, or via usb, it actually loses charge while it is "charging". I have had it completely drain the battery while on charge. I've killed all applications, and the problem still exists. The only way around this is to turn the phone off completely while it is charging- which is something I feel I should not have to do. Not found a solution online yet...

PHONE : I9100XXKE4
CSC : I9100XEUKD1
Has anyone noticed that their 3D drains while it is plugged in? I plug in my phone for charging. It charges completely and the LED turns green. Then it begins a slow drain (as if it weren't plugged in). I notice the behavior on system panel. It shows I have it plugged in, but my charge is slowly going down.
What's going on here? Is this normal?
I read somewhere that once it is fully charged, it stops taking juice till it drops down to 90 percent and draws juice again while still plugged in.
I think this is from the intelligent charging that most new phones have. In fact in every android phone i have had...i put it on charger at night, wake up and it shows full charge, but if i unplug and replug it will drop down to 94ish and start charging again. I believe it is a form of governor to prevent over charging and heating.
Looking at my Battery Monitor Widget information, charging overnight, the battery gets to 100%, then is allowed to drop to about 95%, then charges up to 100%, then drops, then charges, repeating the cycle between 95% to 100% until unplugged. It looks like a saw tooth pattern.

I love Battery Monitor Widget Pro.
I checked my log file from over night and noticed the same pattern. Goes from 100 to 95 percent. Pretty cool.

seems HTC tweaked it since the EVO 4G, it would drop to 90 not 95. I been using that widget, too, to monitor it.
anyone notice when it starts to cycle back to 100 it stays 99% for a while longer than what would seem normal?
Hi there anyone have any ideas been using my Z2 since last Friday and yesterday for some reason the device will not charge to 100 % only goes up to 96%
I have tried a different charger and still get the same problem , Also downloaded Sony pc companion software and run the repair tool to see if it resolves the issue and still same problem
Try discharge battery to 1-2% (some advise even till auto-off device) and then fully charge with bundled charger.
Mine does the same thing, don't worry.
The reason this happens is that once your battery is at 100%, it stops charging automatically, and the device waits for it to get down to 99% before starting to charge again.
Is it possible that you just keep catching it at 99%?
Mine will charge about 1% every four minutes until it hits 99%. Then that last one percent takes a couple of hours. This is according to the power/percent list in gsam. It's done it consistently from day 2. Day 1 it failed to charge beyond 80% overnight.
Sent from my D6503 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
thanks for your help I will try a full discharge and then try charging it and see how it goes
Finally battery is flat the phone turned off , charging it now with the sony charger which came with the z2 , will let you know what happens
I did a live chat with sony and they say the device is faulty and needs to be repaired
I have rang my network provider and they will send me a new z2
96% charge and wont charge no more!!
would really like to understand what is the solution to the problem.
This is really annoying . Please need all possible inputs.
Do you think its a product issue and needs to be replaced with a new piece.
Mine charges, but...
My Z2 will charge to 100%, but after it gets to 95% the screen turns on, and stays on.
If I push the power button on the phone to turn the screen off, the screen will turn off for between 0.5-1.5 seconds, and then turn itself back on.
I have gone through quite a few settings on my phone and can't find anything that might affect this other than perhaps "Night Mode" - which I have disabled.
Please help, my provider refuses to replace my phone even though I got it brand new from them and it's only 21 days old... I do love the phone, I just hate this issue - I can't leave it charging over night, or run the risk of having the phone over heat (it happened once, this is how I first found out about the problem, I had to leave the phone off with a fan on it for a good hour before it was cool to the touch again.)
@The Midnighter
I think you have a faulty unit, mine (2nd one) doesn't even overheat unless I have severe CPU/GPU intensive apps running. Never had a charging problem either... Get it replaced mate
I always charge the phone power off, when it is full charged I get the vibra notification and the phone is 100%.

I forgot to mention - you reminded me.
When I leave my phone off and plugged in, it will charge to 100% - however I have to do a HARD RESET every time I go to turn my phone back on, after turning it off. (Holding power and volume up) or it sticks on the "SONY" screen and will not advance.
Since xperia S there is a feature which helps battery keeping good condition
Its charge to 100% and turns charging off till 95%
Its all becouse integrated battery
This is not a bug or problem

It is indeed a problem, because the screen is staying on and causing my phone to over heat - it once over heated so badly because of this I had to leave the phone off for a very long time.
The phone doesnt charge at 100% and the magnetic charger not work

I have the exact problem. The phone work ok for a few days and then stop charging at 92% and the screen stay on. I plug the charger in the night and in the morning was only at 92% and hot, very hot.
A few days ago I bought a dock charger and an usb cable to plug in the magnetic lateral charging port. And with both chargers the phone shows the charge icon for a second and desapear for another second and repeat the loop.
I try everything in the software level. Restore the firmware using pccompanion and also flash the lollipop firmaware but the problem persist. Just not tried delete the battery stats because my phone is not rooted yet.

Did u manage to fix the problem? Or did anyone here manage to fix the battery charging issue? Mine charges to 78%, then sometime 85% then hard-reset - 91%. Cant charge anything above that! : <
There's no real fix, you can only hope a rollback to KitKat might help. See this lengthy forum post on the sony forums:
https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z2/Lollipop-charging-bug/td-p/965384
Spanning from april until right now...
Mine only gets to 70-80% on an overnight charge.
Mine charges and discharges constantly, I try change the cable, the AC adapter, the usb on my computer, the micro usb port to magnetic... Always is the same.. and another times charges too good.
Some times charge to 99% and discharge to 98%.. so I disconnect and connect again and charges to 100%
Maybe it's a Lollipop .232 problem in some devices?
Hi! Same problem here, sometimes my phone doesn't charge to 100% and I have to unplug the charger and plug it in again to get 100%. I think it's pretty common, but if your phone only charges till a low percentages and just doesn't charge further, it might be so that the phone's afflicted with the Lollipop charging bug. We can only wait for Marshmallow then
My s3 has an ODD battery drainage issue. I went to take a nap today and my s3 dropped over 40% in charge sitting on my bed side. My s3 also doesnt charge while on charger it discharges so it slowly goes down while on charge. It however does charges up when i turn it off.
- Also yesterday I was out and noticed my phone was at 35% battery and i knew my phone battery would die if i left it on so i pulled my battery out and left it in my pocket. When the time cmae i had to use the phone i put the battery back into my phone and turned it on. MY PHONE LOST 15% charge even while OFF and battery not connecting to the phone.
What do i do?

How old is your battery?
Definitely sounds like the battery. I had a similar issue with mine a little while back where the battery would lose the majority of it's charge quite rapidly, or be at 50%, and then it would suddenly die, and then when I managed to get it back on it would be at 2-3%.
ETA: My problems vanished after a new battery install.
New battery needed.
I also noticed that Anker have their S3 batteries on for half price at Amazon UK, well worth an investment.
Basically, plug it in via USB and charge it while it's turned off (offline charging). It makes sense that it would get warm while the battery gets charged. However, I noticed that it stays noticably over ambient temperature when left plugged in after it's fully charged, even after hours. Not hot, but hand warm. No idea why it would still produce the heat in question, common knowlege says the regulating chips inside should completely stop any energy flow when it's full. Weird. No idea if that's normal, a software or a hardware issue.

Hi,
I noticed that last Friday when I changed my battery to Nohon. It was the first installation of the new battery, I used for an hour the phone and then I turned it off to charge it completely. (I don't usually turn off my device to charge it so I noticed this now)
I noticed the device was warm and stayed warm even after was finished at 100%. I thought was the battery, I unplugged from the charger and I checked the temp was 35c. Then I let it and I was checking regularly, the battery temp drop down to very normal temps. Afterwards when I charge it again but with device turned on I didn't noticed this warm which I felt when the device was turned off....so Idk. I haven't tried to charge it again while turned off.
I am on crDroid with NGK.
Btw, the Nohon battery is amazing, 17€ and my phone is like new 11-12h SOT

From Official Store of Nohon at AliExpress. It took around ~1.5-2months to come but worth it
Only on particularly hot days and that too while using the device. Indoors I use the device plugged in pretty much always but I limit charge to 60% to reduce the voltage stress. Otherwise when not in use even at 100% charge temps. are a non-issue.

That's great. Do update how it holds up after say 6 months to a year. It was very fortunate that for a few months last year Xiaomi India ran a promotional sale on replacement batteries in which F1 battery was marked down to just €12 equivalent as Aliexpress is banned here. I considered buying another battery but since they returned the original battery which despite it's 65% health was still good for 8+ hours SoT in A12 I decided against it. F1 will serve as my daily driver only till the end of this year so as a secondary device the replacement battery should last years.
