Anything resembling Moto Voice in this phone? - LG G5 Questions & Answers

I'm interested in buying this phone but since I've been using a Motorola for two years, I got used to Moto Voice. This app can dictate sms to me, via bluetooth, while I'm in my car and I can choose to answer it using voice recognition... I was wondering if there's anything similar on the LG G5 or any way to make it work like it does on a Motorola phone?

I think I found an elegant solution, someone made a script which you can install in Tasker, instructions are here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/u/tasker-tips-tricks/guide-read-sms-aloud-respond-voice-t3311226

I had trouble with that profile I downloaded from XDA so, I decided to create my own homebrewed Tasker profile. It's not as hard as I thought it would be. Here's the link to the xml file I created, if you want to download it: https://www.dropbox.com/s/p3iz5di8u4z4sd7/Android_auto.prf.xml?dl=0 . All the strings are in french because it's my main language but, you can easily change them so that they fit your own language. So far, using Tasker doesn't appear to affect battery life that much...

Voice dialing soft?

Here I go again with my upgrading issues. I recently upgraded my ROM to PK Black thanks to olipro unlocker, the whole athena project, HeartofDarkness, and ITXDA. THANKS FOR A GREAT ROM and all your help.
My new issue......I need a voice dialer that works. The dialer that was in the shipped ROM of my 7501 was great. Is there a place that I can get thdialer in CAB to re-install to my device? I am currently using VOICE_Tri. It does work but only when the phone is actively on/unlocked. So if my phone is in my pocket and or locked, I cannot dial. The original dialer worked when my phone was locked or not near me. I really want this back. Can anyone suggest a dialer that works that I don't have to buy? Can I strip it from the HTC ROM?
Thanks in advance.

Try this! You might have to purchase this one though!
You're welcome, really.
Do you remember what you used prior to upgrading ?
Heavyweights are:
- Microsoft Voice Command (doesn't need training);
- Cyberon Voice Dial (requires tagging).
Both are commercial products, but since you rightfully own a device that was provided with either, there shouldn't be much problems if you did bit of searching on the forum or googling and found workable archives...

The voice dialer I was using previously was included in the shipped firmware on my 7501. I have no idea who made it or if it was simply part of the ROM. I did try the one offered on mahmood's site and it seems to be working well enough for now. I will use this latest one until I find another. I did have Microsoft's version when I had other devices but I often had trouble using it with a BT device. There was one that I read about that announces your incoming calls and other little neat things, but with all my reading, I forgot its name. So, long story short, I am ok for now, but still always on the prowl for biger, better, faster, smarter, easier etc.
So keep me in mind if something surfaces that is a dowlaoad (pref. free) that I can try.
BTW, do you know how to get PocketCM off of my device?

Looks like it would one to try, but do you know if it is unistallable once it's on. I still trying to get Pocket CM out of my device.
you might have to use a registry delete on that one. some how it installed in your registry...thats why you cant easily remove it. try resco registry. you should be able get in and delete it with that software.
BTW...that link to that Voice dialer...yes it removes once you go into settings and Remove Programs. I dont think however, that it gives you the option to save your settings. But who cares.... Good Luck buddy!

I have never used a registry editor. How does it work? What do I do?

[Q] Where is voice talk?

Hello,
I just purchased a Galaxy S II, model SHW-M250S. However, I do not think it came with the voice talk software. Does anyone know why that would be? Any way to add it to the phone (other than vlingo from the app store) I have been trying to figure it out online for a little bit now so I am posing the question to those with a lot more knowledge about phones than myself. Thank you.
You mean a voice command application? Vlingo is the closest you can get right now.
Yes voice commands. I thought the GS2 came with a "voice talk" application preloaded. In videos I have seen users just click applications and it is right but my phone lacks this.
There are three, voice talk, voice command, and voice search. Not sure what are the difference among them as they all seem to do more or less the same thing.
Sent from my phone via tap tap tap
Hmm, well I have the voice search but it just searches google. It won't open apps or let me dictate messages or anything.
You are right, I got them confused, voice search does google, but the other two more or less do the same thing. They should all be in your app drawer.
I don't think they are I wonder how it got left off the phone? Kinda disappointing. Too expensive of a phone to be missing stuff imo.
I have been searching high and low for an APK that has those, but I have not come up with anything so far... lost it when I flashed a complete WIPE custom rom... I'll be ever so thankful if anybody uploads or directs me to said APK...

Natwest App

I'm currently using the latest MiniCM7 on my X10 mini.
The one app I'm really missing is the official Natwest App. It doesn't appear in the market on my phone and if I look it up on the android market on my computer then I am told it is incompatible. I'm just curious as to whether people on other ROMS are able to download it? Maybe I could modify something to make it compatible.
Apparently a lot of people have had similar problems, trying to run a UK banking app on anything other than a stock ROM.
I had a quick Google hunt about this and quite a few people suggest using the app, Bank Control, which apparently works with Natwest as well as some other banks. Some have talked about editing the phone's build.prop as well.
Not much help, I know, but hopefully this may be useful to you.
I've been reluctant to try Bank Control as its not officially supported by Natwest. I've finally given it a go and now can't register with it for some reason.
I'm interested in modifying the build.prop. People seem to have had success on other phones by editing the ro.build.fingerprint. Could somebody post that line from a stock X10 mini so I could give it a go? Or could I use the ro.build.fingerprint from a different phone without it affecting anything?
Well, I could..but it might be easier if I just gave you the whole thing and you can pick the bits you need..
I've had to zip it because .prop files can't be attached here.
Worked like an absolute charm, thanks a lot!
In case anyone searches for this I changed the ro.build.fingerprint line to
Code:
ro.build.fingerprint=SEMC/U20i_1238-7173/U20i/delta:2.1-update1/2.1.1.A.0.6/-X_d:user/release-keys
Didn't have to change anything else.
No problem, I'm glad it worked out.

Chinese text in caller id

Dear All,
Recently got a Chinese phone from the net running ICS. I set the language to English, but some cuneiform text appears below the name of the people calling me. Is there any way to fix this?

Other than a custom rom or knowing how to decompile the apps and edit out the coding, probably not. Only possible easy solution that might or might not (probably not...) would be to make sure the locale is set to an English speaking country using something like this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bruce.setlocale
Thanks.
I am not intimidated my code as such (fluent in c++) but it'll take some time to understand android... Any idea which app I should look at? considering android is open source, I can probably patch the change in, create a replacement app and see if that works...

It's most likely either in something like a LocationProvider.apk (/system/apps) or the phone/dialer apk. If you are rooted, I'd try and free the LocationProvider, apk and see if that doesn't help. Try the easy stuff first. But I'd poke around in a thread like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1891962 or something similar that deals with this idea on porting Chinese roms to English.
Or you could just be lazy and see if installing another Contact/Dialer app from the Play Store just circumvents the whole deal.
Already tried using a caller id app, its more of a hit and miss... I was wondering what would happen if I just happen to replace the apps you mentioned from those of stock android? does that make sense?

Google-Now Change the keyword Ok Google

So this morning I said OKAY GOOGLE CALL XYZ ON LANDLINE - and two phones started dialing. Obviously there is no way to avoid this.
Any dev out there who could try a hack that allows to define personal keywords? Or is there someone from Google who reads this and helps?
I imagine that in the not so far future you can say OKAY GOOGLE in a MacDos and 20 phones will reply.
Thanx in advance.
Reviving a 4 year old post. ?
Is there an answer here?
Had the ability to customize the keyword with my Droid Turbo in 2014 and LOVED it.
Open Mic+ looks like it used to do it? I DL'd tm3 versions of it. One didn't work, one wouldn't even complete DL'ing, & the 3rd had a not from developer saying he promised Google he would disable it?
Developer mentioned something called Commandr but it doesn't seem to do anything.
DL'd the old Moto app and it wouldn't launch.
Anyone know how to customized the OK Google command?
