So my girlfriend has an RS988 on marshmallow that tethers just fine. I just got an RS988 off eBay with 7.0 (nougat) that doesn't seem to have the tethering option. The "Hotspot" quick settings icon will randomly be available to me but when I start the hotspot it does not show in the top bar like on her and there is no way for me to access the settings for the hotspot... so the hotspot on my phone starts, and is visible to other devices, but I do not know the password because there is no way to access the hotspot settings menu :| I am unsure if something is funky with this phone or if Nougat crippled the hotspot feature. Is anyone out there with nougat on the RS988 able to use the mobile hotspot (aka Tethering). Also, what is "SCR Version". I cannot find out what SCR means and my girlfriends phone does not say "SCR version" at all. Thanks.

What is the software version? If it is rs98810h it is the Brightpoint version return it if you can. The USA version of Nougat is rs98821a

try flashing the BPT 10D firmware first from https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-rs988-firmwares/ followed by flashing the 11c version. When I was on 11c I couldn't backflash anything either, for some reason I could flash that though and then reflash the 11c to go to 11d.
Hotspot is working for moe on RS988 Nougat update 21a.
Thanks for the replies everyone. I am about to flash RS98811c_00_ARB01.kdz from LG's official server with LG UP and I want to make sure I got a few things right. My Anti-Rollback version is 1 according to the hidden menu so does that mean I can flash the 11c that ends in "_ARB01"? I assume any KDZ ending in ARB00 could not be flashed as my rollback fuse is set? Just wanna make sure. Thanks everyone!
If you are on nougat you can not flash back to 6.0 many have tried and it fails at 10% and the nougat kdz is not available to reflash so I would not try it

Thanks for the reply. Just to clarify, even though my "software version" is 10h which is technically lower than 11c, my Android version is 7.0 (on 10h) and 11c's Android version is 6.0 so that is what the rollback counter checks?
Yes that is correct, and the 10h is why you cannot get some things working right. IF you wait till the rs98821a kdz gets released you will be able to fix everything. That is what we are all waiting on.

To clarify on your software version numbers of 11c being newer than 10h, that's because there's two versions of the RS988. The one version is the us unlocked g5 RS988 and the other is bright point (bpt) RS988. US unlocked version is 11a-d (Android MM) and now 21a (Android N). Bright point RS988 versions are 10a-h (with 10h being their Android N version). So if your G5 is the US version you should be running 11a-d or 21a software but a lot of people flashed the Android N kdz 10h for bright point and now have issues. Hopefully when the us unlocked 21a kdz gets released you'll be able to flash it and fix all the issues Why LG continues to do stupid things with their software and model numbers I have no clue, but that's just how they are. There was the same issue with the G4 as the US Cellular version and us unlocked version were exact same model numbers running different software versions and it's same as the G6 as they did the same. Anyways, keep checking back as I'm sure once the 21a kdz is released it will be uploaded here

I've been using the RS988 G5 on Verizon since last month (that BHPhoto had on sale for $399, due to my old Note 4 DE having issues). For the price, it is a good phone, but I'm not liking the fact that it appears LG will not be upgrading it to Nougat, leaving it on 6.0.1 with months old security patch.
At this point, I'm not sure if I should just keep it for now and wait and see how the new phones are this year (G6, S8, Note 8, V30), or return it while I still can to BHPhoto and pick up something else. I could go with something used on Swappa (such as the Verizon branded G5 or V20 that both have 7.0) for around the same $400 or slightly more.
I'm so frustrated as you are... i live in argentina and a friend of mine brought me from this variant instead of a H850/830 as i requested but is such a good phone, i can't really complain
It's like a forgotten variant... i wonder if LG itselft knows it exists
Recieved the update

Is this notification actually for Nougat, or perhaps for just a more current security update? The size seems too small for the Nougat update is why I ask.
Update: I just downloaded and installed the 554.17MB update and it was the latest security update (2017-01-01) in s/w version RS98811d. Maybe Nougat will come in the next weeks/months.
I'm downloading the "d" firmware, but really slow even with my 175Mbps Comcast connection, so not sure where the LG Software Update Server is.
Too bad it still isn't Android Nougat, but at least it is the Jan 2017 security update. So there is still hope I guess.
Update:
Finished the download and install. Visually, can see no difference from the "c" version.
Sorry

Sorry i was excited...bur after installing i came to know that it was a security update
It looks like there is a RS988 Nougat Source Code listed here:
http://opensource.lge.com/osSch/list?types=NAME&search=lgrs988
But at the start of May, I'm doubtful we'll ever get it.
I had thought about going with the unlocked G6, but not any more, as LG is pretty bad about updates on their Unlocked devices.
I have read somewhere that they told a consumer that the RS988 would be updated in May, seeing the source code is a good sign I guess

LG Replies (So Far)
I decided to periodically email LG about the Nougat update. My first email received this reply:
<<LG>>
Good day! Thank you for getting in touch with LG Email Services and letting us know about your concern. It’s our pleasure to assist you with your inquiry!
As far as we know and according to the list of updates we found on the following page, there has been an update for the RS988 phone model to Nougat 7.0 that was released this past 24th of March.
Software Updates are generally pushed into devices by the carriers or service providers (e.g. US Cellular, Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc.) that phones are locked with over-the-air (OTA). Factory unlocked phones have no connections to these updates and receive updates through LG via OTA or a software update tool instead.
If you haven't received any notifications about recent software updates on your phone, please try to check for and download the latest update for your unlocked phone via the LG Bridge application. You may download and use this application on a computer from the following page.
Please follow the step-by-step instructions under the ‘PC Sync’ section of the page above.
<</LG>>
My 2nd email brought this response:
<<LG>>
According to the information that we got from our product specialists, unlocked phones should receive an update from LG Over-The-Air once available for the unit. LG OTA updates for unlocked phones have to pass through multiple Quality Checks for several carrier networks or service providers before their release so it takes a considerable amount of time in between releases compared to phones locked with a specific carrier.
Should you require further assistance or for any other concerns, please do not hesitate to email us back. We’re more than happy to help you the best we can.
Feel free to contact us also via Live Chat or Phone by dialing 1-800-793-8896.

Yes its Nougat with Android Security Patch Level of March 01, 2017.
When I updated using the LG Flash Tool, it had to reformat the partitions (user, system ...). Therefore I lost my old data.
I backed up my data before upgrading. Will try to restore using the LG backup tool and report back later.
Don't you need the rs988 dll file to flash. If so where did you find it

I used the LG Update tool from the link below.
Selected the upgrade radio button, followed by the kdz file and let the installation go through.
Again please backup as your data might be lost after the upgrade. To be on the safe side please remove sd card too.

This worked fine for me. I'm not the owner of any these files hence I cannot take responsibility if anything goes wrong. Please use it at your own risk
everything seems to be working had to factory reset like you said but just glad to finally have Nougat. Thanks

I guess the April upload is the Nougat one.
https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-rs988-firmwares/
I've been checking my G5 RS988 every day, and still no OTA Nougat update on it. I'd rather go that route as it (should) keep system data & apps in place, instead of doing the update via the LG Software which wipes/formats user data & apps.
I am on verizon and I can confirm the RS98810h_01_0303.kdz from lg-firmwares.com works on my RS988. I performed a backup and update with the tools and drivers provided in AUTOPrimes post linked below. Once I updated the device, I simply loaded the backup tool and restored my device, sms and apps appeared right back to the state they were before. My only question is that the firmware is listed as BPT (brightpoint), will this still include the same bands listed under the unbranded USA rs988?

Hello
I have Lg v30 model H933 and this guy who repaired my phone after it got bricked, flashed boot loader version of US998, now my question is if a flash firmware US99810c_03_1216.kdz will it brick my phone? It did brick my phone when I flashed US99810d_01_0411.kdz which is an Android oreo firmware.
SO my phone is booting up and working right now with firmware H93320h_00_OPEN_CA_OP_1123.kdz which is an oreo android version, this phone came with a nougat version and wifi was working on nougat so now i am trying and testing all the different available nougat firmwares available for V30 phones and even for different models just to see if any one of them would work so far none of the nougat firmwares have ever made further than lg logo screen at the startup of boot, and this is with any nougat version firmware i try regardless of their models of course still all for LG v30 .
Flashing Android oreo firmwares always started and booted nicely with any suitable model so far that I have tried but no wifi still and nougat no matter whichever model LG v30's firmware i try never made it past lg logo screen.
Please let me know any possible solution or idea anyone may have.
Thanks

The wild card is whatever the guy did to unbrick your phone. You may no longer have a "normal" phone. You SHOULD be able to flash US998 Nougat, master reset, then flash any version of US998 Oreo. With H933 you would have to DL Partition to US998 both times or even use Refurbish. It's in the Frankenstein instructions and countless people have done it. But the repair guy may have done something to interfere with that happening.
Hey, I bought a LG H930DS from a reseller who was probably importing stuff from abroad, so while I'm mostly based in EU, I've the AME region in my phone (all stock).
And so far, no OTA or LG Bridge update for me and still sticking to V20f-AME-XX... There has been some slight delay even on Oreo, but wasn't so long IIRC.
However, at this point, since I don't care about sticking to this region, would be safe to update it to HK (or maybe the recently arrived TW) images, preferably without loosing data, and (for sure) dual-sim?
I've seen the changing region topic has already been covered in the past, and so in theory should be, fine but I wonder if the fact that would also imply a switch to a mayor release anything.
And if all is good, can I just use LGUP?
same here , i also own the h930ds with v20f-ame version . there's no 9.0 pie ota update nor kdz for it till now

That link you posted is from 2 years ago. Some of that information is not correct. At one point we thought flashing H930 over H930DS changed bands but it doesn't. Remains H930DS bands. We also thought flashing H930 over H930DS made the 2nd SIM not work, but it doesn't. Both SIMs still work. That's the danger of looking at very old threads. Back in Feb 2018 we didn't know all we do now.
And we can't go back and change every thread from two years ago...
You can flash any H930DS Pie or even EU H930 Pie KDZ and your phone will have Pie.
The only caveat is if any carriers have VoLTE/WiFi calling on AME firmware, by now having different firmware those options will probably not work. However, even that isn't always true... On latter EU Oreo H930 KDZ, the India Jio VoLTE started working when on earlier EU H930 it did not. At first the India carrier VoLTE was only reserved for India region KDZ.
I don't know about AME carriers.
Thank you, in fact I was quite sure this wasn't anymore the case as I read updates around later the post.
However, I don't need VoLTE calls, nor AME carriers, given I live in Europe.

I also live in the EU and have the H930DS AME version.
If you don't care about Volte (I don't know if it works as my carriers don't use it anyway), then you can safely update to any H930 or H930DS variant via LG-UP.
Personally I am using the EU H930 firmware as I found it was the one with more regular updates. The calls and data work perfectly fine in both my SIM cards.
The only change I noticed is that despite flashing the EU region firmware, in the phone settings it is shown as GLOBAL-COM, and I never received OTA firmware updates, I always had to update via LG-UP. But I don't think we are going to see more updates from now on, so this is not really an inconvenience.

Wifi is on but it couldn't connect to router probably.
After 10 times turning on and off the wifi or manually select connect it will connect to router but about 5 seconds after that it will get disconnected again. Sometimes it would stay connected about 1 hour but that is rarely happened. It could not also connect to other phone's hotspot. Changing the adsl modem couldn't help that
. I tried liquid remix based on pie and found the same issue. I used to use the phone about 2 month like that but couldn't stand that way and rolled back to oreo
I guess pie roms wont work on the ame version yet

Wait. Are you talking about Wi-Fi on rooted stock firmware OR are you talking about Wi-Fi not working on LOS-17 based custom ROMs?
No one is complaining about Wi-Fi not working on stock Pie firmware. Even other AME users who installed EU H930 Pie.

Strange. Because not many complain about Wi-Fi on stock firmware. Stock Wi-Fi is what people want back....
Having said that, I'm not a big fan of LG stock Pie. Which is why I never upgraded and an still on stock rooted Oreo.
In Pie, try flashing your Oreo AME modem in Dev Patched LGUP to get your Oreo modem back. See if that does any good for your Wi-Fi?
See here:

Well the pie modem obviously doesn't work for some devices, and the oroe modem is a fix, as mentioned here:

To do this, get the "DEV PATCHED LGUP"
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/development/h930-lg-v30-european-market-h930-t3779076
1) Go into download mode (power off completely, then hold volume up button while plugging in USB cable)
2) open patched LGUP and flash OREO KDZ to DL PARTITION mode.
Click "start"
In the pop up box select only "modem"
Restart, done.

Yes you can use LG-UP to flash any firmware from H930DS or H930 without wiping data. You will only lose your home screen configuration. Just make sure to select update and not refurbish on LG-UP. The AME version has never updated from V20f, so this would be your only option to get more recent updates.
Hello, I recently updated to pie for LG h930 Europe model. Everything works flawlessly except the mobile data.
It shows in the upper right corner that I am connected to 4g but if I load something, it doesn't.
I have tried adding the Apn manually but no luck and I have loads of mobile data left it's just it doesn't seem to work as in the apps say that I have no connection after trying for like 5 seconds.
I updated to pie from nougat so can that be a problem? I hope not .
Needless to say I am looking for a solution and I couldn't find one so I am making this thread so maybe someone can help me out.
I really don't want to go back to nougat just coz of mobile data but I don't see any other way.

1) No that shouldn't be problem IF you flashed firmware compatible with your V30. I find it strange you had an H930 on Nougat...
2) You don't have to go back to Nougat. You could also go to Oreo and have stable firmware with latest features.

You said something I would like you to clarify. You HAVE an H930 V30 or you just FLASHED firmware for H930 onto some other phone? Tell me what variant you have?
I find it strange you had an H930 on Nougat... whereas lots of US998 bought off eBay are on Nougat because they were Frankensteined from LS998 and the dealers just left them on Nougat.
I have an LG v30 h930 Europe variant and I got it from a guy who had it on Oreo but he downgraded because of better battery life. I updated the phone yesterday through lg up tool using pie kdz firmware that is on the LG firmware site. I noticed today the problem with the mobile data when I was outside and needed to use it.

Downgrade to Oreo 22j -- at least temporarily to see if it fixes it?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79964731&postcount=2
You never want Nougat for anything.
Oreo (especially the latter releases) has better camera features and fixes.
Thank you for your help , finally got it working .
I did a stupid and configured the manual APN wrong so I asked the carrier and they set it right for me so now it's working .
I'm at my wit's end on this. Calls stopped working the other day due to 3G disablement as far as I can tell. AT&T model unlocked and using with Simple Mobile on T-Mobile network. Calls would just say "Calling" for a long time and then eventually disconnect. I could switch to GSM and make calls again, but slow data. Simple told me to get a new SIM and when trying to activate, it shows ineligible IMEI due to no Volte it seems.
I'm trying to get that fixed, but running into various issues.
LM-G850UM
I tried to crossflash (https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/tutorial-crossflash-bypass-opid-mismatched-error.4345963/)
I flashed G850QM30c_00_NAO_US_OP_0224.kdz but it didn't ask me to change the model, so it still shows LM-G850UM software G850UM30c. IMEI is the same.
Since this didn't get calls back or Volte, I tried updating the MBN (https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...ther-qualcomm-powered-lg-devices-too.4343655/)
Data shows 4G. Calls don't even try to connect.
I don't know what to do next and don't have much time to try to figure it out. I like the G8X, so I'm hoping there's a way to save it.
Any thoughts from the experts?

Make a back up,and cross flash it with T-Mobile firmware.Problem solved.
Thanks Surge!
I crossflashed to general firmware. Where's the best place for the TMobile firmware? Just off their website? Will that lock the phone again, or will I still be able to use the Simple Mobile Service?

It shouldn't lock the device if it's already unlocked. You can also use G8 firmware as well.(same device)Look here, this should get you the firmware you need.

Thanks again, Surge.
That's where I got my KDZ before. I used the one here: https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-lmg850qm-firmwares/ and used the 3/24/22 version for Android 11. When I flashed it with LG UP, it didn't ask me to change models, which I'm not sure if that's why it didn't trigger it to start working again.

Most are using the international firmware for the G8 and G8x models.Which is what the qm firmware is.If you're carrier is T-Mobile or any T-Mobile MVNO,I would solely use T-Mobile firmware. My G8x is AT&T branded and factory unlocked, and I tried using Tmobile service about 2 months ago and was having issues sending text messages.I could place and receive calls and get text but couldn't send them period.
Yeah, so my G8X is AT&T unlocked. AT&T didn't activate VOLTE on this model, so when T-Mobile shut down their 3G network, Simple Mobile calls won't work and the current IMEI shows it's not eligible (because of the model.) At least that's my understanding so far.
So for the G8, is this the firmware I should crossflash? https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-lmg820tm-firmwares/ or I could try the QM which may or may not work. Is that correct? Basically going to the 820 firmwares instead of the 850?

I would go with the T-Mobile firmware since you're on their network. It wouldn't make a difference with VoLTE enabled with an AT&T sim.Once you pull the sim,and swap it it defaults back and turns the IMS settings off until it receives the configuration from their servers.Yes,820 firmware. It at least has the higher android builds, and better security patches.Once you put T-Mobile firmware on the device it should all work regardless of IMEI.
Edit:Make a back-up.Don't forget to do that first!
OK Surge....you've been helpful and seem to know what you're doing. What did I mess up?
I followed the cross flash instructions. I flashed the 820QM firmware first, and System loaded but the touchscreen wouldn't respond. I could only use the hard phone buttons. Decided to go to what you recommended with 820TM and it wouldn't boot at all - black screen - but I could still get to QFIL and LGUP.
I reflashed 850QM and touchscreen works again and I'm back to where I started.
When I flashed 820s, It did ask me if I wanted to change model numbers this time and I said Yes. And it asked it said it was changing some partitions on the 820 loads.
I may have been working on this too late. I appreciate your help so far.

I think someone else encountered this once before, and it was caused by certain manufacturering dates of the device. Some models can use 820 firmware, and some can only use 850.Looks as if yours is kind of stuck with 850 firmware only.I think the AT&T version I have I could go either way it worked with no problems.I still have my G8x but never really used it.I bought it because it came with the dual screen attachement, and $125 I took it.Here's my Sprint copy if you want to give it a try. It's a LUNS copy minus LUNS 5 for IMEI information etc.I was in the same boat as you on certain features not working with AT&T at one point myself and had to crossflash the Sprint version of the device. With that being said, try this one from LG Fans first. If that doesn't work, try my LUNS Sprint copy and let me know which ones works the best.

So interesting news....I obviously didn't try making calls last night at 2AM, but apparently reflashing with the same exact 850QM software I used before seems to have fixed the issue. Maybe changing the model to 820 and then changing back to 850? Who knows? That's like the 3rd thing that happened with this process that I have no idea why it started working differently, but hey I'm happy and back up and rolling.
Thanks for all of your help, Surge! I was truly at wits end, and had already ordered a new phone, even though I'm happy with the G8X overall. Now I can return that and keep rolling with the G8X.
Thanks again, you were a huge help and its much appreciated!

Glad you got it working!I run in to a same similar issue with a Note 8 I have, and it being an international unlocked AT&T phone. No calls would work period, and swapped firmware over and over and finally started to give up and flashed the stock firmware back and it worked. It's something that hangs in Android with the changed IMS settings that are sent to the device. It's all odd at the moment with carriers, but nothing surprises me anymore..lol..
"G850QM30c_00_NAO_US_OP_0224.kdz" Is a BPT kdz and is not truly open even though it says, "NAO US OP".
I got the phone working by using "G850QM30b_00_NAO_US_OP_0902.kdz", the "real" open kdz. Everything worked fine after that.

Yes,the firehose will always work regardless of the Android version. Also from what I have read, yes the same procedures work for A12 for root and unlocking the bootloader. As always, backup your firmware before rooting and attempting to unlock the bootloader just in case something goes wrong!

Do you think there is any point to crossflash
USA G850QM40b_00_NAO_US_OP_0805.kdz
on ATT G8X to be used on Tmobile network? I can do the VOLTE patch after rooting it . is it worth the headache?

QM versions are international unlocked versions of the firmware. My branded AT&T G8x had issues sending text messages with T-Mobile service I do remember.I crossflahed my variant with the QM version and it worked flawless after that. But,I do have a full backup copy of the AT&T firmware if I ever decide to put it back.
