I need help restoring my IMEI, it sais it's "0" - Moto E Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
I have a problem with my Moto E XT1021, I can't use as a phone because mi IMEI is corrupted or deleted, when I dial *#06# it says:
HTML:
IMEI
0
I live in Mexico, the phone is Movistar and originally came with Android 4.4.4 Kit Kat, but 2 days ago it shut down and wont turn on, it was stuck in the Motorola logo, so I decided to Unlock the Bootloader and Flash the stock ROM but after that, it started to show errors related to google applications and services, so I decided to flash it again but this time with Android 5.1 Lollipop but when it started, it asked me for the unlock SIM code, which I don't have, so, again, I decided to turn back again to Kit Kat. No problems until it started and I noticed that it got no signal, "No Service" specifically. I investigated why was this happening and discovered that this is an IMEI error, so I dialed *#06# and it showed the message above. I have tried many ways to restore it, including Engineer mode and reflashing it, but I still get this error.
Is there anyway to restore my IMEI in my moto e 1st gen?

I've heard that if you copy and paste the efs folder from one device to other it might work and restore the IMEI. Please if you have it, I would be pleased if you provide it to me one copy

[Q] correct imei but no signal,

Hi!!:
After reading and reading and trying every method i found on the internet, i still have not succeded with my problem which is this:
I tryed to flash an stock 4.3 to my free s3 movistar chile, but when it rebooted and after i wrote the pin code, it asks me for an unblock sim code
It presented signal but uknown network. I got back to 4.1.2 thinking that it should repair this, but no, it was worst, i got imei null,
After searching and searchingI found a cwm 3 files patch on the internet: one for cleaning kernel, other one to install kernel and the other one to install modem, and with it i got my imei back, (this is when i made efs backup, i know i sould have done long before ) but also the wknown network problem, with the phone asking me for this unblock sim code again.
I used galaxysim unlock to try to repair this, but it showed me that the phone is totally unlocked i think i remember it also showed me the state of csc and it appeared blocked, so i think this is where the problem lies, but i couldnt find any info about this.
when i go to state of the phone i see this
network: uknown
kind of network: umts
service state: out of service
mobile network state: disconnected
imei:3537.... thats ok, fits with the one on the back of the phone
device state: modified
(sorry if my einglish is not very accurate)
So resuming: my imei number is ok, wifi works ok, but even though the phone shows signal, it presents uknown network, and i cant do or receive calls.
i would be very thankful if any of you could help me
Your phone was unlocked using a crack that only worked on 4.1, by updating to 4.3 you've corrupted the efs folder.
You now need to buy an unlocking code and pay for a repair, make sure it works on 4.3 before you accept the phone back.

Thanks a lot for answering!. So, if the phone was cracked in 4.1.1, is there any chance to downgrade to that version, use the corrupt efs backup that i have, just in case i lose the imei, and try to unlock?, or would be too risky?
Not without a backup of the efs before you upgrade, no.

D802 HardLocked

Hi mates,
Bought an second-hand D802 without checking the lock status. It worked when I tested it, but after a couple of hours it gave out the "SIM card removed - The mobile network will be unavailable until you restart with a valid SIM card inserted". The phone automatically rebooted after 5 seconds and when it restarted it just said Invalid SIM.
It kept doing this many times a day. I needed to restart it 3-5 times to get it back with a signal.
Took it to a friend that has an Octopus Box, he struggled to Repair the security, even got the IMEI 0 but managed to restore it. Unfortunately with no success because the phone is in the same state. He software unlocked it again but with the same "Invalid SIM - Please insert a valid sim and restart".
I read throughout the forum that an EFS restore from another working factory unlocked D802 might get rid of the Hard Lock status, but no one confirmed a success for any G2 model.
Does anybody have the slightest idea of what can be done ?
Thanks!
Ok so I downgraded to 4.2.2 and now testing to see if the "SIM card removed - The mobile network will be unavailable until you restart with a valid SIM card inserted" error disappeared. It displayed the first time I started the phone but let's hope it won't reappear. If in 2-3 days it will be all ok I will put out a guide for everyone that has this error with the G2.
Having the same issue. My phone is the d801. I had a backup efs but restoring it hasn't helped at all. Flashed stock kitkat rom and it worked for a few hours without the problem but now it's back up again.

I too flashed to 4.2.2 and it worked for a few hours but then started acting up again. Luckily after scouring for hours discovered it could be my sim card. Went and replaced it and now back up and running
but for anyone else there is a better how on returning to 4.2.2 than the one here on xda. Google pastebin Restore Stock G2 Firmware and there's a step by step with photos.

Galaxy S6 G925F- "No Signal" After M IMEI Had Been Changed

Messed up with my G925F!!!
Hello , my phone suddenly was not able to make or receive any calls or joining 3G/4G network or SMS. In other words, I was out of service although my SIM had not problems to enter the PIN password and I could see signal bars.
After a little research I discovered that my IMEI and S/N number had been changed! Especially, the IMEI number became 350000000000006 (fake one) And I believe this is the reason my signal went off!
So , I just managed to download smart switch from samsung and choose "emergency software recovery and initialization -> device initialization" in an attempt to revert it to stock rom and settings (is this method unroot the phone too?)
But after this long downloading finished , the phone didn't boot , I only see the samsung galagy s6 edge logo stuck!!!!
So , I decided to root the phone again , following the guide here (link-->), zidroid.com/how-to-install-twrp-root-galaxy-s6-edge-on-android-5-1-1/
(in short words , I installed the twrp recovery with odin and I flashed 2 zip files required, from an usb-otg-flash drive, via the twrp recovery install button) and then the phone booted normaly , but the problem with the signal and wrong IMEI was still there!
I feel that I am on dead end , I don't know what to do , I am thinking about sending it to the location I bought it but I am afraid that the warranty is lost.
Please help me restore my phone back to normal
After repeating the whole procedure several times , now my phone does not recognize SIM card at all , as if it was never inserted , wtf?

So you mean that there isn't any way of backing up the IMEI number first before rooting or changing a rom/kernel/recovery to the phone in order not allowing this IMEI bricking happen again by means of restoring from its backup?
I googled a lot and some people suggest that they can backup EFS in some way. What is EFS exactly and how it is related to IMEI?
Also wouldn't be a good idea to find a way to backup my entire OS/firmware (not just IMEI/EFS) before doing anything , in case to save money and avoid the same bricking?
And yes , I have sent the phone to samsung service , it will cost me around 320 euros , because they discovered I changed kernel/rooted the device , and they will change motherboard.
I cannot help the phone without being rooted , I love rooting but I cannot understand why suddenly IMEI got bricked.....does it worth to take risk and root my phone again? But I want IMEI or entire OS backups first before doing that and I don't know how to achieve this without rooting first...
Please help me if you could.
You can backup your full os using twrp recovery
Also your IMEI
In SAMSUNG devices imei number stored in efs partition that's why people asking take efs backup before flashing any Rom

Me too! I have the exact same IEMI number! Mine stopped working after about a month. I tried to return to seller no response. I tried to send phone back they would not accept phone, so it is on it's way back to me. Once I get it back I will try what you did.
I have taken it to factory settings 3 times no luck. I will try your process once I get me phone back.
Thanks!

I did contact one of those fellows a reputable one that can change your IEMI. Well once he heard that crazy IEMI number, he said because it was changed once before to something like he doubted he could change it again and save my phone. To try he charges 100 US plus I have shipping there and back. Yikes.
So any advice you can give me I would truly appreciate.
Thanks!

:good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good:
Mine went down recently with the exact same IMEI and no SN. TWRP was failing to restore the efs partition damaging the files in the process. Long story short, I had to manually extract the efs files, copy them across and fiddle about with permissions but I'm working again.
That nugget rings true - always backup the efs before changing anything.
But for that reputable fellow to say that the IMEI had been changed before because of what it had become, and insinuating that the imei couldn't be changed more than once was complete twaddle. I wouldn't trust him near any of my phones.
On a lighter note I'm sure there's got to be a member on here would sort it for beer tokens
Happened to me, I thought it was faulty ROM and all but then I realized it was simply apn setting. Resetting it to default did the trick. It can be found in Settings > Mobile networks > Access Point Names

Since this thread is quite old and people keep answering , I want to end it like this:
Back then I didn't avoid to pay about 300 euros to replace its motherboard to a samsung shop. But I learned lately that the issue was due to an app called "USB OTG Helper" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.shajul.usbotg&hl=en) which allows you to insert NTFS USB flash drives to your OTG phone but also enables a system partition , including EMS files to be visible.
And you can guess what happened next , I deleted this system partition which this app made it visible and yes , my IMEI was gone!!! After some months , I repeated the same delete thing , but previously I had backed up via TWRP the EFS and MODEM partitions. My phone lost IMEI again , as expected , but after restoring EFS and MODEM , the IMEI was back!!
To sum up , never delete files or partitions that look like "system" like bluetooth and imei folders when you are root AND always have a backup of all your rom via twrp or something else before changing/deleting/flashing anything related to your system.

[SOLUTION] No IMEI/SIM not identified

Right, i've seen a lot of people have trouble with their phones not identifying their SIM cards, and i myself faced this problem awhile back, i upgraded to Android 6.0 on my Honor 7 PLK-01, after i wasn't happy with it i decided to downgrade back to 5.0.2, running B130, and after the downgrade my H7 no longer identified my SIM card. The only thread related to this was someone asking how to CHANGE the IMEI of the H7, and apparently asking that was against XDA rules, but i read through the rules and saw nothing against it, unless i missed something, but i hope this isnt against the rules.
First i'll try to explain what an IMEI is based on my little knowledge, the IMEI is needed for your network operator to contact with your phone (or sim, im not exactly too sure on that), and if your IMEI is missing, your sim will not work.
Basically, here's how to fix/get back your IMEI 1 & IMEI 2.
ATTENTION, IF YOUR PHONE IS ROOTED AND HAS A CUSTOM RECOVERY, YOU NEED TO UNROOT YOUR PHONE AND GET RID OF THE CUSTOM RECOVERY
STEP 1
Check what your phones build number is, you can do this by going to Settings > About Phone, you should have your Build ID listed in here
STEP 2
Go to NeedRom.com on your H7 and download your corresponding OS update, for example my phone was B130, so i downloaded the B130 > B140 update, i would post the link but apparently i can't post outside links since im a new user
STEP 3
After you've downloaded your update, you don't need to move it to any dload folder or anything, just go to Setting > Updater, click on the menu button on the bottom of your screen, choose local update and it should show your downloaded update there, click on it and you'll be granted and option to restart your phone, click on restart and it should take you to the install screen.
after it's installed, your phone will restart and your IMEI should now be restored, and your SIM should be working again.. You should notice it instantly from your SIM working again, but you can also check it by typing *#06# into your dialer
i personally didnt find any other way to fix the IMEI on H7, this was the only way i got my IMEI back.
If this worked for you, please leave a thanks on this post

IMEI Number Deleted, No service anymore

So i recently decided to unlock my LG G5 H850 bootloader, installed TWRP, backed up everything I could, rooted my device. Thought why not update to Nougat so I wiped my phone and installed LineageOS. I didn't like it to much so I wiped again and installed Fulmics ROM. After flashing this ROM I noticed that my mobile data could not be used so I thought it was a simple bug wiped and flashed again. Switched back to LineageOS then stock still with no mobile data. I am currently on the Fulmics ROM realizing that I no longer have an IMEI number in my phone. In Settings>About Phone>Status my phone number, IMEI and IMEI SV all show as "Unknown." Typing in *#06# comes back as "null."
I have looked all over the place, tried different things such as going to 6.0.1 and installing some modules to change IMEI from xposed but they always crashed. I've looked at fourms from other websites, downloaded exe programs onto my pc. I cant figure out a way to get my IMEI back. This is my main phone, I cant switch the sim card to my Nexus 5 unless i have a sim card adapter so it fits.
Any help would be great since i never knew this was a possibility.

In order for it to see the phone you need to enable the port check option in the hidden menu first it's under "SVC MENU", after doing this plug your phone into your pc and select File Transfer.
After doing this you will see in the device manager the new usb com port and you will be able to use EFS Professional with it.

If phone on Marshmallow (MM, Android 6), ROM (from 10a till 10g version), bootloader must be from Marshmallow.
