Hi,
I have CM10 running on my rooted Galaxy Nexus and I just enabled the disk encryption. However, I can't find any options what happens after a few failed attempts? I would like to reset and wipe my phone so that it will be usable, but without any of my data. Cerberus is flashed, so I think I'll have a better chance at recovering my phone if it's usable and not completely locked.
I have set a profile with tasker + secure settings to shutdown after 3 failed PIN attempts (which is different than the encryption password), so I should be save there and a thief would be forced to guess my much safer encryption password.
I know that I can do it with cerberus, but only manually.
Bonus point: Is there any possibility to use a pattern instead of a PIN for the display lock? It's unavailable after encrypting..
Nobody?
Hi googled the we already and were not able to find a solution.
My LockScreen Option are all except Password greyed out. I had the phone encrypted and the group policy from my company applied to it before. Now I remeved the Group Policy App, removed the corporate Google Apps account and decrypted the phone. No encrypted SD card is inside.
I erased the Credential Storage and check that there is no additional Admin configure. Neither is any VPN Connection.
Phone is not rooted and runs Android 4.1.1.
Any idea?
Regards,
Hello to all...

all the rest is stock
what is going wrong:
1. I set up VPN connection with lock screen pin
2. all right for the last 2 days
3. now I want to configure a new VPN
4. I want to enter VPN settings (in settings "More Settings" in "wireless and network"
5. it's not possible, it's asking a password for credential storage...
6. i know the PIN I have entered to unlock the lock screen
7. after trying 3 times with false password it want to reset/erase the credential storage
8. I restarted phone and after, no pin is needed anymore... I'm really confused...
credential storage -> (what is this?) (is this a problem if it will be erased?)
Someone knows how to solve without a hard reset?
I'm searching in web and XDA but I can't find a solution...
I've solved.
Was very simple - found the solution on a German Forum.
Simply reset credential storage.
Just in case anyone else reads your thread with the same question. You are talking about clear credentials under security right?
yes or insert 4 times the wrong password in vpn settings, it doesn't give any problems.
after this you have to restart with vpn settings, because all vpn connections are lost and you have to give a new pin/password for access/activation to the credential storage.

Disable the screen lock security - from pattern, pin or whatever go to none.
Now you will have no VPNs or another things which might demand security, but you are able to setup them again.
Guys need help . I have note 3 neo and when I open "vpn" it shows "enter creditional storage password " how to solve that.?
Just go to the lock screen settings and set a new screen lock...
Like pin, pattern, password but not swipe, that's it.

[Q] settings > more VPN > "type the password for credential storage" ?
Hi, everyone.
I recently upgraded my Samsung Galaxy S III (gt i9300) with the Android 4.3 update and am having a bizarre issue. I went to add a new VPN and it began prompting me for a password to access credential storage! First off I have no idea what this is so I googled it and only found a few forum posts (they were back from the ICS days!) but not much else. Everyone said just to get it wrong so many times and it would reset itself just erasing any old VPN settings so I sat there and typed in random garbage 3 times until it said it has erased credential storage but it still keeps prompting me for a password and when I type something in it just keeps giving me a small pop up over the keyboard saying credential storage erased! I have never entered any type of credential password and I tried all of my standard set of pwds with no luck!
Is there some sort of generic key I am missing? Please help!
Solved.

I've realized that it is directly related with the type of screen lock you have. I disabled the PIN I had, and I could regain access to the VPN settings, although it asked me to provide one type of lock screen PIN or password in order to use credential storage.
Hi,
I just bought Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and want to setup it like my old Galaxy Nexus. Also I want to stay with fully stock ROM for a while so I need to perform everything without root.
I need encryption set on my phone. Problem was that for some reason Samsung ROM does not allow PIN unlock on encrypted device. Password wasn't convenient so I searched for workaround for this.
Solution was to install Tasker+Secure Settings and change lock type to PIN just once. Everything was perfect, PIN lock was set permanently. BUT, when I rebooted the phone I wasn't able to decrypt storage with old password. My device can be only decrypted with new PIN now.
How the hell that could be? I believed that when I set encryption password it will be used for decryption. Obviously for me now, it's not.
My question is: what encryption key is used for data decryption in Android? You can change password or PIN and decrypt device with it easily. In other words: what data (encryption key) should be hacked in order to decrypt the phone and where is it?
