Does anybody know if AOKP or CyanogenmMod are working on updating their roms to Android L?
I know it's officially just for Nexus 5 and 7 at this point, but Im interested to know if they will port this to other devices,
specifically our precious Galaxy S3.
Thanks in advance for your input, guys.
I guess when Google will push the source of Android L to AOSP, CM and others can start working on it. But before that I don't think we'll get Android L.

Do you think that will in the next few weeks, or just in the fall, when the system gets officially released?

of course they will, but only when it gets officialy released
it's hard to port from a dev. image and it's harder of the S3 (no sources and all)

Thanks a lot for the info.
At least now I'll know not to hold my breath.
I would really want to get my hands on L but people THINK for a second Google didn't even released the L yet and you want CyanogenMod L on your phones. Use your brains. When the code will be released we will be able to start thinking about porting. Not earlier. WAIT and CyanogenMod will do something for our phones but only whet the L is published. NOT EARLIER. By the way if you want to have L on your phone MOVE YOUR A** and start porting.

I would have ported it already, but google hasn't released the AOSP yet. Have a little patience, will you?

Honestly I'm also find this thread annoying as this is not the only post with the same content, there are still tons out there, I've seen the same post all over XDA. HOWEVER, there's no reason for you to behave this rude. Man here is XDA. If you want to show your attitude go somewhere else. If you want to throw harsh words on others go somewhere else. Seriously you need to mind your words.
I know this is going to be a somewhat complicated process, but I'm willing to stick with it.
I'm willing to upgrade to any ROM, really, I'm not picky. If nobody suggests anything different, I'll just go with Cyanogenmod. What I really want is Android M running on the device as soon as possible. Which ROM gets that update out the quickest? I'm a complete beginner at everything you can think of, but I can read and I have a computer, so I can follow tutorials just fine.
Any ideas which ROM I should upgrade to when the time comes? (I mean, if any developers have announced the update to M and their support for the Mate2). If not, my main question is when will Cyanogenmod developers start building on Android M? And when do you think it will get over to the Mate2?
EDIT: I know it hasn't come out yet, but sometimes developers announce that their ROM will be based on some new version of android before it even comes out.
Both PAC and CM are nice. I run CM because I prefer the stick android experience . PAC has more bells and whistles. Personal preference really. SuperBass has made videos on both of them. As well as installing each one.
M will probably never make it to the HAM2. CM works great and is easy to install. Just jump in there with both feet.

Well, to get there, I'd have to downgrade to Jellybean, upgrade to Lollipop, and then start the CM install, which I'm likely to **** up. It's gonna be more like a couple of slow hops in different directions.

Yeah, I was wondering about M. So the official Huawei devs won't update to Android M, but won't CM be updated to be based on it? Is that how it works, or am I mistaken?
I am under the impression that CM has official developers who actually work on the ROM. Then other developers use that and make it available for different devices. Therefore, Android M will be coming to the Mate2 as long as CM is updated by the official developers and it gets support for the device, right?

No, that's not how it works, actually. Huawei would have to release the HAM2 specific M code for other ROMs to use it. I am about 99.9 percent sure that Huawei will not build M for the HAM2 so it dies on the vine, so to speak.

So CM isn't a base that device developers tweak to work with specific devices? Do you mean that CM is developed over what the phone manufacturers release?

Devs need manufacturer kernel source to build off of. Someone can PORT M to this phone. But I seriously doubt that happens. Huawei will surely NOT release M. They barely managed L. And that was only due to so many complaining about no support.

Yes, CM is often used as a base that other devs use to add their stuff on top of. But, if the manufacturer doesn't release their code (which includes drivers and such), then there will be no CM. Yes, CM is developed over what the phone manufacturers release.
Just wanted to bring some good news, in case you havn't heard. Oppo has reviewed their OS-strategy and even though they’re proud of ColorOS they’ve realised it’s not what everybody wants, especially in countries outside Asia.
So they’ve decided to split their devteam and let one part focus on delivering a near stock android version based on AOSP. For the R5/R5s, apart from the camera app and screen off gestures, the ROM will be 100% AOSP.
As for updated to the rom, the initial AOSP ROM will be released based on Android 5.1.1 and the Find 7 has already received the update. R5/R5s is next in line and will get 5.1.1 soon and a promise of 6.0 early 2016.
There still is hope for Oppo!
Cheers!

Nice to see you here.
Your Lollipop Rom for SG3 LTE is fantastic. My son is enjoying Lollipop.
I am still on KitKat with R5.
Hope that when you have sources to start your magic
Nice to hear that you and/or your son is enjoying some of my builds :good:
That would be great, but oppo github has no activities since weeks, but I am watching other repos too .
So, I got in the private testing group and finally got around installing the new ROM part of the Spectrum project.
The ROM is based on 5.1.1 and definitly feels snappy, however, there are quite a few bugs needing ironing out.
I made a little teaser for you guys: https://youtu.be/9EYWkox82Ew
Feel free to ask any question you might have.
Cheers!
Hey cool sounds good thanks for the info...do you have an idea how long it will last till it will be released? And whether sources (and if "only", local manifest, device, kernel and vendor repos) will be uploaded to github?

Some update, a new alpha was released two days ago and it's MUCH more stable... almost all the bugs are gone and the ones that are left are minor or insignificant.
I feel the public release is very close now
The sources will be uploaded to git as soon as the dev's feel the build won't risk bricking devices, in other words colse to public release
Cheers!
super many thanks for the info and the update!

Public release will come this weekend if everything goes well.
Alpha 2 is somewhat stable. Batterylife and some rarely signal drops and laggy performance are the last bugs.

I'm not so optimistic... It all depends on how good the devs want to public release to be. If they didn't care so much, alpha 2 would have been the public release already. I think they do care and i think it's important for them that this project gets recieved well since it's somewhat a new concept.
But i hope i'm wrong and they're compiling public beta 1 as we speak (write)

A beta can be stable until proven otherwise... so your question is hard to answer.
There are still some issues but the phone works fine for every day use.

Ethan the official developer of TWRP has already compiled the kernel. He's waiting to receive his View 10 next week.
Expect official TWRP support soon!

That's a great news... I am eager to buy this device as I am looking for new phone for replacement of my old Redmi note 3.... One question, did we get stock rom images to flash via fast boot cause if I want flash stock rom at any point of time? A small request if that's possible..

I understand that... But look at one plus devices for example...They release source code on first day itself... In just 3-4 days , there will be rooting guides , twrp etc will happen ... after 10 days there will be custom roms and mods etc... Just example, not exact fact... But here everyone is taking precautions due to last failure of "open source" thing.. that's why I am too taking slow steps to buy... This time it will be different! I hope so that!
Cause I am learning c and c++ and soon i also wanna start some development as hobby and this device is best in terms of everything , but I have to sell other two old devices which I was hoping for development experiment cause 30k rs ( in india ) is costly for me as student. I was gonna buy mi a1 which is in my budget but then xiaomi done "great job" by releasing nougat kernel source code after 4 months and when device on Oreo!! Let's see how development will kick start here...
You said it yourself. It's a hobby. Just wait and you will see that a lot of stuff will come. Be patience

Yup... Very true... Excited ..
First thing takes time.
Once we get that first kernel/ROM, then we can see bunch of the stuff comes every day.
Twrp is the major one for now.
So Android P rolled out, and I was wondering, we've been blessed with devs work and got every great update and tons of rom for this device. And was wondering is there by any chance getting Android P based roms in future. Also I was specially wondering about RR, because I like that a rom alot.
Well will we be getting android P, or I shouldn't get my hopes up?
Just wait patiently. The sources are available, just wait until a dev cooks a build for kenzo. Or when proper GSIs will be available.
Sure thing buddy, by any chance you also want VoLTE and 10 hours SOT?
Nobody maintains Kenzo for income, just because they feel like sparing time, for crying out loud it was just formally announced today, so if you want P go ahead and build it on your own.
Just stop this kind of threads, they are just spam.

Sorry, the devs need income and now the devs like @rocknegi have started p**n for ₹50/day or ₹200/month cause the users aren't donating enough money.
If they get enough income from p**n selling, they will develop Android P for you.

I know but just use some sense? We are not devs, we are normal users like you. How do we all users know if a dev can develop Android P. Plus, do you think a dev will announce 'Hey Niggas, I'll develop Android P rom for you all niggas asking for it, wait for few hours:. No?
The dev need to look into the source, need time to see what all bugs needs to be fixed, else users like you will come here and say it's buggy, that doesn't work, this doesn't work right?
Another sensible answer: Android P sources are just released. It's not like magic to develop rom directly from the source. Needs a lot of hack, back port blobs and things we don't even understand.
Summary: it's a redundant question as of now. Please wait, if there's a Android P rom, you will see it here. Till than, enjoy other roms.

As a user of redmi note 3 . i just hope dev make android p for this device.
As one of the lineage 15.1 maker for Redmi Note 3, yep, we will do bringup after 9.0 source code release, and should be easier than Oreo, as Pie impacted a lot of backport comparable, please don't ask lots of annoying OTA, follow XDA rule, P will be coming to Kenzo/Kate after sometimes, but for Treble is more harder as blobs are old, we need to wait hydrogen and suzu devices etc updates for new blobs, for more Treble working, and even CAF for msm8952 board not impacted treble, unlike msm8953 board, so treble now is experimental and don't expect stable treble in a short time.

And for my lineage 15.1 long time no updates because I teams with @Carlos Arriaga, and he is back in July so I and other team members need to do some updates, my 15.1 new build will release soon

Thanks for this reply. Won't be asking for annoying updates, just wanted to know that is all.
Well, speaking of Android Pie development, I've found a Pixel Experience ROM that is based on Android Pie through a Telegram channel
Known broken features:
• Bluetooth
• VoLTE
• Stock camera app, but the camera works for stills and video (Open Camera)

(link: http://t.me/KenzoRoms_News) t.me/KenzoRoms_News

NOTA BENE: Try it at your own risk, as it is not developed by me, but if you want to download it and try it, here's the link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1KqyUEdUgtW5coyoTlHuuN0Y2Jt1aKnn-
Yep. I've been using the Pixel Experience 9.0 from @thestrechh as my daily driver for a couple days now.
It's usable if you can get by without VoLTE and Bluetooth.
Gcam works, but can't change the settings and it crashes a lot. Front and back camera stills and video all working.
The rom feels pretty buggy and a bit sluggish to me. CPU operations seem to take an unusually long time. Maybe all the cores are not being utilized optimally. (Don't know. I haven't actually tested.)
I'm sure this rom will continue to get better and better in the coming days. I'm anxious to dirty flash the coming updates.
Excellent work by @thestrechh.

I've not noticed sluggish performance here, but I have noticed bugs here and there, which is par for the course, considering the infantile state of Android Pie development.
Still though, for an early release, it works almost excellently
