Ethan the official developer of TWRP has already compiled the kernel. He's waiting to receive his View 10 next week.
Expect official TWRP support soon!

I've been playing with the kernel a little bit. I'm going to try to release something in a couple weeks. Development isn't instant day one stuff. Qualjty stuff takes time

That's a great news... I am eager to buy this device as I am looking for new phone for replacement of my old Redmi note 3.... One question, did we get stock rom images to flash via fast boot cause if I want flash stock rom at any point of time? A small request if that's possible..

I understand that... But look at one plus devices for example...They release source code on first day itself... In just 3-4 days , there will be rooting guides , twrp etc will happen ... after 10 days there will be custom roms and mods etc... Just example, not exact fact... But here everyone is taking precautions due to last failure of "open source" thing.. that's why I am too taking slow steps to buy... This time it will be different! I hope so that!
Cause I am learning c and c++ and soon i also wanna start some development as hobby and this device is best in terms of everything , but I have to sell other two old devices which I was hoping for development experiment cause 30k rs ( in india ) is costly for me as student. I was gonna buy mi a1 which is in my budget but then xiaomi done "great job" by releasing nougat kernel source code after 4 months and when device on Oreo!! Let's see how development will kick start here...
You said it yourself. It's a hobby. Just wait and you will see that a lot of stuff will come. Be patience

Yup... Very true... Excited ..
First thing takes time.
Once we get that first kernel/ROM, then we can see bunch of the stuff comes every day.
Twrp is the major one for now.

Over the years we have asked Fuhu/Nabi for the source for Nabi2, NabiJR, NabiXD, Dreamtab, etc. A year or more ago they released the source for the Nabi2, NabiXD, and JR. Unfortunately the kernel source was nothing more then a snap shot of the kernel anyone could get but no board specific code, or even a defconfig. I have continued to politely ask over the years and they just released for the Nabi2S, Dreamtab, and BigTab. It still looks quite rough but I am pleased to announce with a little hacking to what they released and I was able to build a booting kernel for the Dreamtab(see attached). I also contacted them back, and asked if they could revisit the code for the Nabi2, JR, and XD. We will see what transpires but it's the best effort they have put forth to date.

I would love to see if any progress comes out of this. Did anyone ever manage to get any other ROMs working for this besides the ones that was ported from the Nexus?
I've been away from these devices for over a year.

I have a working Dreamtab kernel. The other devices source looks much worse. I asked them to try again for Nabi2 but never heard back. Haven't done much else, been messing around with LG Gpad lately.
Wonder if they would do the same kernel snapshot with the SE. The latter should also apply to the Mattel-themed variants, e.g. American Girl, Barbie, Hot Wheels and Fisher-Price considering they run off the same hardware with ROMs customised to account for the edition.
Will it get as much developer support like one plus one ?
I'm sure the OnePlus X will gets it share of Custom ROM in due time. The device hasn't really been in peoples hands that long and developers still need time to get to know the in's & Out's of the device. I give it a couple of weeks or a month before we see anything
you may have noticed the phone was only just released, like a week ago, that's the answer to your question
give it a few weeks, allow people to start developing for the phone, or alternatively make a rom yourself

Because no kernel source has been released? Don't worry. It's being worked on. Anyway, you've posted this in the wrong section.
I think, based on the replies above, you should have your answer now.

Once galactic stryder started to collected crowd funding to buy a new le max 2 and then also ordered it and then it now arrived because of some issues. Anybody can tell me what happened to the money of yours you donated? And why he is not developing? Just curious to know that!
Heyyo, he posted a while back that he has had stuff going on in life so it was delayed a few months for software development.
Tbh even once he starts it could be a few months before he has a properly working x2 build as he uses his own kernels with some stuff based on Darkobas (Oreo) and I haven't seen anything happening there either... So really who knows when we shall see some AOSPA x2 stuff.
Such is the way with crowdfunding anyways. We funded a device for him and it will take time for things to get done. I know I donated a bunch too but hey I am barely making progress on Oreo but I try with my limited software development skills and time.
He wrote to me that let max 2 "will be supported on our AOSPA 8 from April"
Let's wait for the guy solve his issues. Nobody forced us to donate. I am sure that he didn't run away with the LeMax2  Any user should understand that developers are also people with jobs, family, etc. Heck, even to reply to xda Q&A takes time (thanks @ThE_MarD), so it's often to see that there's no answer from the dev to "why torch is not working" question or stuff like that.
Honestly speaking, even without him, the development of X2 is at a very good level by my standards.
I think we should also donate to infrag and all the others who worked really hard to fix the builds for this device.
Thanks to all for info
Let me undersrand it correctly. You bought new phone for some guy in hope he will develop rom, but no news from him, he ran away with new phone. Well there's a sucker born every minute.

Forgive me, but it's a sad statement.
Actually, a passionate and skilled guy who did a good job with a very similar phone, offered to work on improving support for this device. I can't event think he needed another underpriced (because of lack of official support from manufacturer, bankrupt) smartphone

He is very active kernel dev for Le pro 3, so it wasnt like, hey lets give new phone to random guy.
Hi, sorry for the delay, the phone has reached my door only yesterday, 5 months waiting - or even more - it's good that I have time now to develop and the phone, I just didn't get to XDA those last months so I get the hesitation of all the users when I was off and without the phone; time's passed and as you can see on my Github we have started moving again, wrote all my Kernel script to support the new device on both versions - one Kernel fits all, right? (my LG G2 users should remember that one) - as I'm planning to support stock M versions and the upcoming, if ever coming, N versions of EUI.
The stock Kernel code is a mess just like the one from Pro3 - what did I expect? - so I may time until Saturday to get the vanilla CAF one up and running stable. After that I'll set up my Ryzen machine with another distro, probably BBQ, to compile a more recent version of N or O.
I have just updated to the latest Chinese ROM (X821) to compare the Kernel messages and take some information to merge with my previous work, I'll open a DEVB thread as soon as I get something stable running for EUI users.
Hope that clears out any misunderstandings...

As u may know , right now there is nothing else on xda than touchwiz mods , most of devs went private to other forums . This tread was made to inform u about progress of custom stuff on note8/s8/s8+
____________________
Project treble progress : Note 8 didn't support treble out of the box , if u heard , galaxy a5 2017 got treble support . Same guy who ported treble there , will port it here .
Note 8
Project status on 25.09.18: Developer got modded files so it wont take long time in order to boot it . Then its just fixing stuff
Project status on 29.09.18: Developer made fully working twrp with treble support . Still working on roms
Project status on 02.10.18: Developer is in hospital in bad shape . I wouldnt expect anything from him cuz he will stay in there 2 weeks
S8/S8+
Project status 25.09.18 : When treble on note 8 will be released , "s" will need talented developer in order to get it ported . But there is really small chance that it MAY work without any modifications
____________________
Custom roms progress : u may ask what's the point of making custom Roms if treble is almost working ? Well , because developer made almost bugless 8.1 rom without working gps and bt . He stopped working on 8.1 and start working on 9.0 .
Note 8
Custom roms status 25.09.18: First version of Android p ( lineageOS16 ) should* be working tomorrow . Then if everything will be fixed , testers will get roms ( Edit made 26.09.18 ) . Not booting . Too many problems with selinux
Custom roms status 01.10.18: Developer is still working on it and fixing bugs . I personaly would expect this rom this week ( month? ) but no idea . Every1 is waiitng
S8/S8+
Custom roms status 25.09.18 : Those phones got bugless lineageos15.1 from few weeks . When p will get released on note 8 , there will be need to mod kernel to get it ported .
Custom roms status 02.10.18 : Well , I guess that note 8 wont be first . s8/s8+ got lineageOS16 . No idea what about bugs etc but its booting . No ril ( or rid . I am tired so I dont remeber . I talk about calling , messaging etc ) Nothing was relased 4 testers yet .
I assume none of this applies to the N950U variant?

According to 1 of them :
"Xda toxicity is really huge . Sorry, but it is not about any device forum or section. It is about rules which are applied in last couple of years. It is also about the young generation who wants to 'show-up' or 'show-off', method doesn't matter. Also something which is just in addition but which I am scared and simply pissed off on - basic grown human skill which is READING is dead... Idk why - maybe ebooks, YT, social media or education at school. Clearly something failed. For Telegram, teaching on this skill or the other way around kicking off lazyness from some asses is pretty easy, however xda not."
So according to ur question, galaxy 8 generation devs went mostly on telegram where u need link "access" from some1 inside . I was trying to invite people here on telegram group about note 8 development . As u can see I have new acc so there is only 1 reason 4 that . I won't send links to any1 , just wait 4 progress . There are 3 devs working on it right now . 1 who made bugless lineageOS15 for s8/s8+ left even telegram because "it's too toxic " . 1 dev continue his work with all his files on note 8 . So if dev is good , p should be working in this week . Dev is offline from yesterday so no info right now . 1 guy is porting treble and 1 guy is trying to make aosp rom on s8 . As soon as something new come , I'll edit my post here
THIS IS GREAT NEWS. I WANT AN AOSP ROM SOOO BAAADD. YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING.... so what do you think, how long until people can start testing the roms out?

Yes.. it's sad. I remember when this was a developer website and not where kids come to cry. You can look at what happened to me2151 one of the major devs from snapdragon has to abandon the device due to the morons who can't use search function in his thread.. unless bigcountry can work magic on the bootloader our device is now EOL only one year later(N950U)... I've thought about trying to do some work for the phone before, but I would never be able to release anything because of the general masses pure stupidity...
I PMed me2151 around the release of samfail, his response was genuine, thought out, and in length. I recently tried to contact him again and got a one line sort of dismissive response. It's sad what the community did to him. Is xda eol?

How about some privacy? You people join telegram groups just to stalk and share info outside and start rumors.
Project treble is on halt for unlimited time.

What I meant, was what will it benefit us to have Project Treble? It doesn't mean we're suddenly going to get faster and more frequent updates. Even though it'll be ported and working, Samsung doesn't have support for Project Treble on the Note 8, so they won't adapt their updates to it.
Basically, I think it's pointless to port Project Treble. Unless the intention is entirely just for custom ROM devs to incorporate it so they can deliver better updates, which I also doubt will happen.
Sounds interesting but you shouldnt get peoples hopes up from seeing a telegram group or whatsoever. No source no work. If the guy is working on it then thanks to him but as far as i experienced from "private groups" i dont really hope that much
Also i assume that you are not a dev but someone in their group, i wonder if you asked permission from them to give news in here.
I would like treble nor p on note8, no offense but sharing infos about a development with no source or evidence that we could see or believe, then im afraid that no one will care about those news if they had enough. If they release it in xda or any other platform, then fine we would respect but reading so called "news-infos" in here, this just seems to me like other fake news.
Today XDA's Aamir Siddiqui posted an Article on how Poco, even though they promised to do so, still haven't released the Kernel Source for our Poco X3 yet.
So far the Developers are doing an amazing Job in providing us Users with already very well working Custom ROM Options.
But, of course, complete sources, as promised, would be very welcome.
A couple of guys have already tweeted at Poco quoting the following Article.
Maybe we could boost that message a little, to speed up that process to get the Sources.
Of course I don't really mean that we should annoy the shi* out of them or be rude, but maybe a little reminder, from their users, might help.
Tweet: https://twitter.com/xdadevelopers/status/1327165355979059200
I for one, fully agree. Sadly, though, I'm not on Twitter. :good:
Another appropriate venue for this gentle pressure would be the official forum at https://c.mi.com/forum-2861-1.html.
Can you document other Twitter posts here? They would come handy as templates and indicators...
.
Gizchina now posted an article about it as well.

Do you guys really believed that a company that makes you wait one week to unlock the bootloader will give you the kernel source right away?
I don't go by what I believe, I go by what they said.
That being said. No, I don't believe that.
Sill, it doesn't hurt to ask and remind them again. Worst case, nothing happens, best case, it helped a little.

Not sure if there is a correlation, but I'm sure it definitely didn't hurt. I'm just glad we have them now.
