In snapchat it almost sounds like a vibration of the autofocus continuously trying to focus in and out. It never really gets a proper focus. Even in regular camera. Any ideas how to fix this without getting an exchange?

can't offer any help, but will add I have the same problem from time to time. I have yet had it happen in the camera app. I see the problem in SnapChat and another app I use to scan barcodes. I normally force stop the app and try again.

After upgrading 2.1 camera app doesn't work and the only way to close it force close or it says not available.
Any idea? Does anyone have the same problem?
No problems here, try a fix firmware with Sony Ericsson PC Companion.
If you not tried yet then try to re-flash your phone again.
I tried but the same...

Same here. Can't start Camera. It stays black for a while and then forces to
close.
No problems here on Rogers x10a firmware.
so what to do
Tried under Custom Rom 2.1 and now after downgrading to 1.6.
Now way. Cant get it work :S
Is it possible flashing caused a hardware problem with camera? (I think it's impossible) But why camera controller cannot work even after several reflash or software repair? Can somebody help with programmer background what to check? Or is it a serial fault (X10i)?
Anyone has problems with camera making some weird clicking noise after 2.1 upgrade? It happens while changing/opening options in the camera menu. seems like lens shifting or something, not very audible but was not there with 1.6

Yeah just the new auto focus... when your in the menu it doesn't have to keep focusing so disables that part resulting in a physical relaxation of the lense

Yes, like the guy above me said. It's just the new auto focus.
The new camera takes far better pictures, way faster as well. I haven't had any problems taking or saving HD video with a Class 2 microSD.
Oh, so you hear it on yours too ?
I though mine got broken or something I did not know there are physical elements in such a small camera that are able to literally shift and produce an audible noise! The strange thing tho is that the noise is produced while switching any options in the menu, like resolution, focus, picture mode etc, BUT the camera is active in background. Besides not all "clicks" are the same, the most loud one i get is when pressing the "picture wall" button in the lower right corner of the camera interface. Just wanna make sure it's like that on every devise

Mine is rather laggy in low light settings, and I have not tried the video HD yet
Hi folks,
I have a haipad i9300 mtk 6577 4 days ago the camera start to make trouble. Sometime just show black screen and after ask for a force close.
I tried to delete the old camera apk and installa brand new...I give to JB 4.2 camera a try to see if it works...nothing still the same. Black screen and after several touch ask for a force close. I guess is not an hardware problem because sometimes it works...what can I do?
I notice if I press several time and I force close then the camera app cannot connect to camera. This happen 4 or 5 times...then if I am very lucky the camera rebirth and start working again...It seems there is a kind of problem between the app camera and the camera hardware...because every camera app have the same issue, so maybe the problema is after...maybe some libs or something like that...any idea?
Odd update...I have a torchlight app with its widget. I notice the torchlight has the same issues of the camera. In fact it freezes and often I need to force close. The strange thing is if you turn on or turn off after few timers you can heard a kind of "click"...the same click you heard when you activate the camera...after that if you turn on the camera it is working. So I guess the torchlight and the camera are linked in some way. Of course I try to unistall the torchlight app...nothing the camera still not working.
Any ideas?
I'm not expect ,but
if something using start using camera (for example torch widget app) then other program cannot access to camera,so if program was not design for that case it will crash. (I know this as When I writing my app i spotted the same problem as You. ).
So i guess something using camera and that cause your problems.Try to find how many programs/services use camera and close all of them and then check/
That's my thought...in fact I'm pretty sure something is bothering the camera app...but...I did an hard reset, so a clean system, but the camera still freeze so I assume is not an application I installed. How can I check which application is accessing the camera?

Hello everyone. I just got this phone the other day after returning the galaxy s5. I am loving it but I have one issue and maybe I'm just doing something wrong.
Everytime I take a picture in the camera app after tapping the check button, the camera closes and I return to the home screen. Does anyone else have this problem or is there something obvious I'm doing wrong?
Not normal. If the phone is stock (unrooted, etc.) I would try a factory reset (backup any personal data first) and see if the problem persists.
Only time I see a check in camera app is when sending picture via mms and it asks where I want to send [email protected],camera etc... if this is case of attaching picture directly from camera to an mms then this is a normal function, if taking a picture and it just closes then this is not normal reaction
Well it seems that the problem has resolved itself. I was just about to post a screen shot of the check mark so you guys could see it and then it just starting working as normal. Thanks for the responses and I'll post here if it comes up again.
Ok the problem returned... I showed the issue to a buddy who has the same phone and it also turned out that I was missing several options on the camera. I did a factory reset and the problem persisted.
I think I found the issue... I was using Google Now Launcher. Apparently that launcher doesn't play well with the camera. I uninstalled the launcher and voila, all the features (video, zoe, dual camera, etc) are back and the camera no longer closes after taking a pic.
Anyone else want to test this theory and see if happens?
confirmed issue and workaround
Hi there,
I can confirm that the Now launcher uses the native Google camera instead of the Zoe camera. I have also found that from the lock screen with the now launcher installed, unlocking by pulling the camera icon opens the full HTC zoe-enabled camera again. I find this super annoying as I'd like to have Google launcher and have the camera work properly. Anyone know a fix for this other than my workaround?
Ditto for T-Mobile HTC One (M7)
There's a lot I really like about the Google Launcher, but this just drives me nuts. I didn't really understand the workaround suggested here ( though I have no doubt it works). But the suggestion sounded on target. So, I went into my app list and shared it from there. It didn't do the funky stuff any more. I wonder if there's a setting to change that behavior: like someone thought, Hey, take a picture and go back to our regular programming? It's a shame because I really feel that the Google camera takes better picture.
In any case, just to let folks know that this is a real problem. The OP was on target.
To anyone else having this problem that does not use Google Now Launcher, another app that causes this is Omni Swipe. The default camera button in the tools section isn't the right camera (not sure what it's trying to access but still). If you add the correct camera app to the app section, it'll be fine.
Yes, this solved my problem as well. I went back to the default launcher and now the camera is working fine
Hello,
This issue seems to have appeared recently on my device, without any particular explanation. It can be potentially be related to Photo Analyzer being disabled from the apps, but that is supposed to increase speed, not introduce lag.
The issue is that my image preview has very low fps in both Superior Auto and Manual modes. What's hilarious is that when I switch to Video mode - the lag disappears and the preview is quite smooth. Not perfect, but acceptable, and just like my photo previews used to perform in the past.
Furthermore, this lag appears only when I move the camera. If I stop moving, the next following seconds there is no lag. The lag appears once the camera detects movement. Then the little stick man walking icon appears in the lower right section of the screen, which seems to be related to the appearance of the lag.
I've tried resolving this via options, by stopping the extra settings like HDR, reducing the resolution to 8MP and clearing the camera app cache. Nothing has really helped so far and the issue is quite strange.
Any ideas on why this might occur and how to solve it? Having a Sony phone is probably the best thing for people who like to investigate problems on a daily basis. :silly:
EDIT: Just wanted to let you know, using other 3rd party apps results in no lag whatsoever. Open Camera seems to be working perfectly fine (except not detecting 20MP reso for photos for some reason).
Overall, there seems to be a problem with the specific Sony camera that I have not been able to resolve yet.
Hey, just wanted to add that clearing data from the Camera app settings resolved this issue. After doing it and re-launching the app, it no longer lags when watching the preview. This seems to be the only solution that helped me. I can speculate that disabling the Photo Analyzer did something, and clearing data resolved it. Disabling Photo Analyzer should definitely speed up the time between taking photos. Photo analyzer eats up some resources by trying to detect faces and locations, then relate them to your contacts so that photos can be sorted by the people in them. If you do not need this, disable it and clear your camera data and cache. Time between taking photos now is not instant, but is definitely significantly faster. Also, the camera app itself opens up very fast, almost instantly, INCLUDING when I activate it from the button when the phone is sleeping.
I haven't seen this issue being highlighted yet, but it's really annoying for someone who uses WhatsApp and Instagram frequently.
Basically, the shutter sound when taking photos using the in-app camera for both apps can't be turned off. I have tried muting my entire phone and even using DND mode but the shutter sound is still there. The miui camera app doesn't have this issue. I even tried Snapchat and Facebook Messenger and the shutter sounds are muted when my phone is on silent.
I've searched around and a lot of people have this issue but there doesn't seem to be a clear-cut fix. Rooting and removing the sound files seems to be the only way right now but even then, there isn't a proper guide or method out there. I currently don't intend to root my phone but there doesn't seem to be a proper fix in the works.
Can anyone see if this problem still persists on MIUI 10 Beta ROM? And is there a proper fix or do I have to live with it?
