I haven't seen this issue being highlighted yet, but it's really annoying for someone who uses WhatsApp and Instagram frequently.
Basically, the shutter sound when taking photos using the in-app camera for both apps can't be turned off. I have tried muting my entire phone and even using DND mode but the shutter sound is still there. The miui camera app doesn't have this issue. I even tried Snapchat and Facebook Messenger and the shutter sounds are muted when my phone is on silent.
I've searched around and a lot of people have this issue but there doesn't seem to be a clear-cut fix. Rooting and removing the sound files seems to be the only way right now but even then, there isn't a proper guide or method out there. I currently don't intend to root my phone but there doesn't seem to be a proper fix in the works.
Can anyone see if this problem still persists on MIUI 10 Beta ROM? And is there a proper fix or do I have to live with it?

Hello, for the past few weeks i've been using cm 7.1 on my i9100 and I'd be glad to say that the rom is perfect, if some issues didn't come up. Firstly, since the first day of use, i've realized that the sound volume (both from speaker and headset) is fairly low compared to samsung's rom (to be frank going above 50-60% in volume options doesn't make a difference). Is there any solution to this? CM 9 apart from the "known issues" got that bug too?
The second problem came up a few days ago and it's related to the android market app. Everytime you scroll through an app's details, the phone freezes and the only way to restore it, is to turn it off and on again. Currently, i'm using app brain which doesn't seem to have that problem, but i really love google's app. So, any solution to that?
Try the app in my sig to give the headset/headphone volume a boost, works really well & only distorts the volume at very high levels (>75% which you shouldn't need). There are apps on the Market which can boost the speaker volume, not sure how well these work as I haven't tried any.
So far as the Market is concerned, I use a CM based rom and have had that problem as well. The only fix I've come across/read about is to restore a much earlier version of the market (hopefully someone else reads this thread and has a fix that can help both of us ). I haven't done this myself as I've trained myself to do all my scrolling thru app details on my PC first & simply do the install/update on my phone without scrolling thru the details , but I'm sure a search on here should dig up something/the apk you need.
Ask in the right place may get an answer quicker .

dont hate me on this.
i've googled 4 hours, read and tried numerous methods but cant find a working method.
previous suggested method for gingerbread does not work, such as
-making a build.prob file in \data\ did not work.
-use root explorer to go \system\media\audio\ui and delete all camera related ogg files
other suggestion includes using "ics camera", app, this sorta works, but i very much prefer to use the stock one.
another suggestion is to use paid app "tasker", to auto set silent mode when camera is running, works, but i hate having an uncessary background process constantly running. :-(
any really working known fix for this?
right now i am using litening rom 2.5 that is ics.
the shutter sound is off by default, the sound that remains is the focusing sound.
please please if anyone have any idea how to shut the camera sound, please share it with everyone here.
PS: ics, not gingerbread method.
seen in galaxy nexus forums, turning down the media volume will mute the camera completely.
but why this not work for s2...sad...
In snapchat it almost sounds like a vibration of the autofocus continuously trying to focus in and out. It never really gets a proper focus. Even in regular camera. Any ideas how to fix this without getting an exchange?

can't offer any help, but will add I have the same problem from time to time. I have yet had it happen in the camera app. I see the problem in SnapChat and another app I use to scan barcodes. I normally force stop the app and try again.
Hey everyone!
I have already posted this issue in my device specific forum (which is the S6), but for a lack of views and replies, I am trying it in the general section too.
So! I am having an issue with my S6 that involves video playback in both youtube and whatsapp, and possibly other apps that I am not yet aware of.
In the youtube app, my phone will play audio, but i only get to see a black screen.
Sometimes, this even changes to showing a picture of the first frame with no sound (or anything happening) at all.
In whatsapp I can click on a video and it opens a player, but it doesn't play anything.
Instead, like sometimes in the youtube app, all I get is a picture of the first frame with nothing happening.
However! youtube works fine in the browser (both chrome and firefox, no issues), and i can watch my whatsapp video's from the gallery as normal too. (but it is still a BIG problem!!!!)
Also! Sometimes when I restart my phone, everything will work fine for a little while (usually for 5 minutes or so) but after a while, it will just break again and goes back to the problem described above.
Lastly! I know on other (samsung) roms that contain an app and framework file called minimode, removing the 2 will cause this exact issue, but these do not seem to be present on my phone. Simply injecting them from other roms won't magically solve it either. (Although I haven't actually found specific nougat versions of these files yet...)
I am experiencing this on different versions of the Stock S6 Nougat AND Marshmallow firmwares, even after full data wipes (including wiping the internal storage).
I have not tried flashing back to Lollipop, but I don't really wanna go down from nougat anyway, so it shouldn't be relevant.
As it does work some times, I find it hard to believe this is a hardware issue...
But I am completely clueless as to what I can do to fix it.
Any help, advice or insight in this issue is much appreciated
Please help me :crying:

Did you try updating the app used for playing video?

Yeah, all apps are up to date.
Thanks for the input tho
The notification tone (sound) for Facebook is very low volume after the Pie update on S9+. All the rest of the sounds for other apps are fine. I have tried changing the tone, uninstalling and reinstalling Facebook, and clearing the cache and clearing the data for the Facebook app, then rebooting, and also wiping the cache for the phone. Anyone have any ides?
I don't have that problem, but another with ringtones. Every time I receive a call, it turns down my ringtone to minimum volume without going to silent. Weirdest bug I've ever seen. Hope we can find fixes.
I have the same porblem also :crying:
Same happen to me... note 9

This is a FB bug.
FB doesn't use the notification volume, but the ringtone volume. My opinion this is not the way the should do it.
I'am also on PIE, but same happens to a friend of mine on her Android 8.0
I have the same issue, Facebook notifications volume is very low
BUT my main issue is Facebook Messenger calls ringtone, it is very low and I barley hear it
I thought it's an issue in my phone and was about to reset it today
did you manage to solve this problem? i'm having the exact same issue, the sound notifications for facebook are barely audible
Same here... S9 and S10.
I had the same problem with my S9 Plus after PIE. Very low and it has this "underwater" type of reverb (that's the best way I can describe it). I don't use the default sound, I use one I've carried forward since (I think) the S7 called dew drops which is very non-invasive.
Last week I got the S10 5G on the day it became available and it didn't have the problem when I first set it up. It came with PIE. But it wanted to do some security update which I ignored for most of the day while I was still "playing" with my new S10 5G and then I did the update. After that the sound is exactly like my S9 Plus. I can change the notification to other sounds and they are all softer than they should be and all have that "underwater" quality to them.
Same problem here on my Note 9 ever since the Pie update. Guarantee Facebook won't fix it as they are more interested in less important things like adding more bloat to their horrendous app.
They can't get the simple things right.
