Hi
I own an AT&T Galaxy S4 (SGH-I337) running Lollipop 5.0.1 (OK2). I have a stock ROM and kernel, and I'm rooted using SuperSU. I THINK I've triggered Knox, as my boot screen says Samsung Custom.
The gist of the problem is, when I turn on WiFi, or rather attempt anyway, it attempts to turn on but after about 30 seconds it just turns off, rendering me unable to use the internet since I don't have service. This started happening when I tried to spoof my MAC address using Change My Mac. At first the MAC just would revert to it's original state every time I tried to spoof it, but the last time I did it, the app crashed and WiFi just wouldn't turn on anymore. I have mediocre knowledge on how android works, but I have a feeling this has something to do with my EFS partition.
Please help me, and thanks to those who do.
Finally please DO NOT post just saying you have the same problem as I do.
try to reflash this rom if you have it this will 100% fix our proplem
your proplem is you tried to change your mac address as i think
so the wifi will not run atleast get back your stock mac address

Hi guys!
I came to you as my last option, I already checked in 2 other forums and you seem to be the one who knows best about this kind of issues.
I have a I9100 phone (with gingerbread 2.3.4 updated via Kies), it has like 6 months old or so, the thing is yesterday I was at my gf house and I tried to connect to her WiFi but it seems like the green button was kind of dark and it didn't connect at all, like it froze sometimes.
I used to reboot the phone and nothing seemed to work, so I forgot about it for like an hour and when I checked it, it was working with the WiFi with no problem, I thought this was just some minor issue, but later that day the problem became a mayor thing because I couldn't connect to the WiFi no matter what I did or how much I waited. I know my way around computers and I could identify that in the wireless option the Mac Address option said "UNAVAILABLE".
Looking in the forums they said this happened because of the kernel and it seemed to go away with just upgrading the stock, so I found a very good upgrade and I did it via Odin, so now I have ICS 4.0.3 with the following configuration:
BASEBAND VERSION: I9100XXLPX
KERNEL VERSION: 3.0.15
[email protected] #k3-25
BUILD NUMBER:
IML74K.XWLPG
Searching for this on the web I found something about the MAC ADDRESS in the nvram file, but when I checked that file, in the "macaddr" part it says a Mac Address that I think is the one that should be, so I'm a little but confused because the file says I have a MAC Address but the options on the phone doesn't (?)
I've tried the airplane mode, etc... I cannot assign an static IP because I cannot find any network!
Please guys, you are seriously my only hope!!!
Thanks a lot!!!

No one can answer this thread? Seriously? There has got to be a solution!
Hmmmm....Interesting.
So you can use the phone normally otherwise ? (data/calls work OK ?). Check your IMEI in settings/about phone/status. Does it begin with 0044 ? Do not post your actual IMEI here, a yes/no answer will do.
Also, I noticed you're running Speedmod with that LPG rom, I suspect the kernel is causing you problems given WiFi drivers are in the kernel. In the first instance, if I were in your situation, I'd flash that rom again & do a factory reset, and try WiFi with the stock kernel (look in the place/site/thread you got that stock rom from, you might be able to find just the kernel. If you can, just flash the kernel rather than flashing the whole rom).
If the problem is still happening with stock kernel, then we can troubleshoot further. If not, then it's clearly a problem with Speedmod; if that's the case you should perhaps ask for help in the Speedmod thread.
But reflash that rom & get the stock kernel back on & we'll take it from there.
I had EXACTLY the same issue
Solved it by changing my wifi router channel from Auto to 13. Problem solved. For me anyway

I'm rooted, stock ROM (locked bootloader..for now)
The other day, I couldn't connect to wifi, it just hangs on 'obtaining IP address', tried different routers, restarting phone/router/modem, I even did a factory reset, which didn't help.
What I think caused it, is when I installed this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mgranja.iptables
(it claims to install iptables, but the version is has is out of date, etc.) which wasn't a great idea, I know.
my question is, how do I fix it? I'm thinking it corrupted something in the OS, which means I can just install a custom ROM, or go back to stock (somehow) but I don't want to unlock the bootloader unless I absolutely have to (giving this phone to a friend, soon)
Good day,
I have a samsung galaxy s3 i9305 LTE and I have been using this device without problems for around 2 years now. It runs on Jellybean 4.3 baseband version i9305zhucnb1. It has been running on this firmware for a couple months now ever since it has been rolled out. The problem is, the WIFI suddenly stopped working. Never had this problem before and I actually never had any problems with this device ever. Whenever I turn on WIFI, it detects my home networks and other networks wherever I go but whenever I try to connect, it just shows saved secured, and sometimes authentication error after a couple of attempts. I have other WIFI devices at home and all are working perfectly. I tried forgetting the networks and I am positive that the WIFI password is correct. I tried to restore the device to facroty settings hoping that it would work. I tried accessing my router and I'm sure my device isn;t blocked. I even configured my routers to only accept the mac address of my device and block all others but still wouldn't connect. I tried rooting my device via odin but my device blocks root access and shows the error message "an application attempted to access system on your device without authorization. this attempt has been blocked.". I tried rooting it to try flashing custom roms. I also tried dialling *#0011# to configure my wifi but it still does not work. I don't think that the problem is my firmware because I had it for months and it didn't update before the issue occured. I was also about to try downgrading it to an ICS stock rom since I can't root it to try custom ROMs. I've been trying to fix this for days now. Can you guys give me a step by step instruction on how to fix this if it is at all possible? And maybe give me a link where I can download ICS or lower stock ROM's for this device. I think I have to use a TGY firmware, though I don't have an idea what it means. Thanks!
Wifi module
Maybe you've dropped your phone and the WIFI module loosened, and it can't work correctl?

Maybe it's time for factory reset? I know that's the easy solution and most complicated but you should do it from time to time.

Well, i think this may be the time to perform a complete factory reset ! try backing up your data and perform a complete factory reset.
nope
already tried factory reset, already flashed stock rom. already reset wireless router and the router is a non-issue because i tried on several networks.

help
i decided to have it checked by a local technician and according to them, this was still a software issue. i dont know what to do anymore. they insisted that i should just keep flashing stock roms to fix these. already tried flashing the 4.3 tgy jellybean stock rom so i was thinking of flashing other version stocks. can anyone give e a good link where i can download tgy stock roms 4.1.2 or even ICS stock roms. I also am having problems with rooting the device. it gives me error message "an application attempted to access system on your device without authorization. this attempt has been blocked." after flashing autoroot in odin. my knox is not installed. thanks.

If they think it's a software problem, why didn't they fix it?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA Free mobile app
dont know
the first time i brought this to them is when i attempted to flash an incompatible firmware. they also did not fix it. they said they dont have any available stock rom for i9305 and told me to download and flash one. mayba im just gonna have to look for a different technician when i have free time. so for the mean time, im trying to look for other fixes. btw, i tried downloading a tgy 4.1.2 stock rom and it does not flash successfully. for now i'm thinking of rooting and flashing custom roms. but whenever i flash auto root. it gives me the error message "an application attempted to access system on your device without authorization. this attempt has been blocked.". i tried updating supersu still the same thing. i manually installed root checker and says it does not have root access and it shows the said error message again. what should i do with that? Thanks
Hello,
since a couple of days I experience a problem with my WIFI. The phone is neither rooted nor does it use a custom ROM.
When trying to switch on WIFI it turns into light green, then green and then it changes back to gray immediately. Same behavior can be seen when trying to switch WIFI on via settings.
This behavior appeared all of a sudden, I dont think that I changed something or installed a new app that could have caused that error. Maybe there was an update of an already installed app...
I then installed a terminal emulator and tried to start wifi via command line with
Code:
svc wifi enable
. That command immediately causes a message:
Code:
reset_reason_init
Killed
Wifi module seems to work. I've done
Code:
ifconfig
and it comes up with a usual result except it does not have an counters > 0
I've also tried another app called "Wifi Analyzer". That app seemed have no problems with wifi since it shows a huge number of networks around (but of course does not connect to them)
So, from my point of view there is an issue with Android that wont let me start WIFI. I think it is not a problem with hardware.
I really need my WIFI. I also tried do do a factory reset. But that doesnt help either....
Any ideas on how to fix that issue?
Regards
Olaf
Go to Sammobile. Com and download the firmware you are on currently on check this by booting to recovery mode or check in settings menu about
Once you have it downloaded flash it in odin to your s5 then everything will hopefully be working this is a small chance of lost data so backup any important data before you flash the firmware in odin
If you have any questions just ask

Hello all,
I recently rooted an old Samsung Stratosphere in an attempt to turn it into a mobile Kali device, and after rooting it using a custom ROM ("root zImage" that I found via googling and a forum post on rootzwiki) and then performing a factory reset, I now have no wifi or BT, and no MAC address. Attempting to connect to my wireless network results in the phone starting wifi, attempting to scan for a few seconds, then returning an error message of "unable to scan" and turning the wireless radio back off. Also, now the phone tries to activate every time I turn it on. I can bypass the activation by enabling soft keys (I googled that also), but how can I disable the auto-activation?
I installed CWM recovery and did a factory reset, no change. I removed the SIM card (I even tried a different one from another one of these phones I had laying around with a broken screen), no change. Why would the MAC address disappear? Isn't the MAC address tied to the actual hardware?
It's a shame that this perfectly good hardware is so difficult to re-purpose to use as something else. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. I am willing to learn Android development in order to figure this out, but I'm really not sure where to start, and I expect this will take some time to get to a point where I can develop my own ROMs and apps. I have downloaded the Android Studio; where should I start? Thanks.
