Download es file explorer or root browser and navigate to either /system/app/ or /system/priv-app/, find what you want to get rid and long-press and delete it. Uninstall won't work, but delete will...but it's permanent. Make a backup first.

Rooting after new update.

After trying to install the new OTA updated and got stuck on the vibrant/samsung screen I use ODIN to get back to original and install the new tar file...however now I lose root and I wanna deleted some of the bloatware that is on my phone now.
I used the one click root on my vibrant the first time I root if I use this again will it work or is there another method?

All of the existing root methods work with JI6, so you're okeedokee.
I have tried all day to regain root access. I had to use ODIN to get the update correctly. I used the one click root (update.zip) method but still cannot delete any of the bloatware or irritating startup/shutdown sounds.
I can use ROM Manager to Reboot Into Recovery but when I try to use Root Explorer to delete unwanted apps or those god awful sounds it gives me the following message:
"Warning PowerOn.wav cannot be deleted because the file system is read-only"
Now I know this means that I don't have full root access. I am going to try to uninstall and reinstall Root Explorer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I had the same problem (unable to delete bloatware) but I installed the latest root explorer and I delete all of the (safe) bloatware without a problem.
I don't know about the "intro" cause I have my system volume on minimum.

If super user pops up to ask for permission then you are rooted. With Root Explorer giving you the read only error, there is the toggle button at the top to go back and forth between R/O and R/W. Give that a shot before starting the process all over.

That was it. I never noticed that up there before. Thanks for that advise. Finally starting to feel normal again after the whole OTA update debacle.

Get Root Explorer and use that, or if you're not sure and need to make sure you have root access just download busybox from the market and it will check to see if you have root, that's a fast way to determine if your root access is functioning or not.

Every root app should work except ones that depend on kernel mods (i. e. market version of Wireless Tether). I used Root Explorer and Titanium Backup to take care of my bloat and all went well.

Nevermind, I used viperboy scripts and a reboot later and the bloatware is gone from the app drawer as well. I'm not sure if it was viperboy scripts or titanium backup that removed it from the app drawer but a reboot helped.

Running into strange issue.
Have complete root. Using root explorer, root user granted.
When i first go into the program I can set to R/W. However, once R/W is set and then I go into the system folder it goes back to R/O. If I back out to the first page it goes back to R/W.
It's very weird that it'll only stay R/W on some folders and not others.
Any ideas what might cause this?
UPDATE: I uninstalled root explorer and downloaded ES File Explorer. Gave ES root permissions, and hurrayyyy. I can delete the bloatware.

freezing apps that you dont know what they do is a very easy way to get a bootloop
you can use the system dump to fix it if you know how to use adb a bd push the apps you froze
alternatively
if you can get the phone to connect to your computer you can use adb shell to unfreeze you frozen apps with the following commands
Code:
adb remount
adb shell
su
cd /system/app
ls
//look at what apps have .fro extensions added
rn appname.apk.fro appname.apk
//repeat
that will fix it
Contacts FC fix?
So I screwed up and deleted the yahoo files instead of freeze them on titanium...getting the dreaded contacts force close issue. How can I use this system dump to restore those deleted files? Can I install the apk's through something like astro? Sorry, total noob apparently....had no idea yahoo would have anything to do with contacts..oh well. Thanks.

So is it as easy as doing a copy all from the system/app folder from the dump onto the razr's system/app folder using a file manager like astro?

not at all. be my guest if you want to try. A. i dont think that astro can access the root folder last time i tried, might have changed since, you would need to use a file manager that can access, mount rw/ro, and change permissions of the system files and/or folders in the root.
B. i tried it already and everytime you try to reinstall the system apps through a file manager it says installation failed.
You have to put all the system apps in the folder AND set the right permissions

So I've tried using File Expert, with Root Exploer, but apparently I'm having some issues when I try to Mount as Read/Write. Also can't seem to use it to change permissions. Anyone have any other apps that will give me access to the permissions?

Well, it appears that if you were like me and deleted one of those applications, you're SOL. I've diligently went through the system dump provided, and added all the items I was missing into my /system/app, changed all the permissions to the correct ones, reboot..and still nothing. Even did a full system wipe/factory reset afterwards to no avail. I know this method worked with other phones, but apparently, the RAZR kernal doesn't allow for it. It seems the only solution would be if a SBF was created that can fully restore the phone to factory install...fingers crossed! So what can we take away from this...don't be an idiot like me and delete apps...just freeze them. I think I must be the only one who screwed that up...=/

Thanks for the system dump ... i check the bootintro ... i don't like the rogers ... ( rogers branded ... )
Sorry!
The application Accounts (process com.motorola.setup) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
The following error appears once i press "Done adding accounts".
I have already done data wipe. it still appears.

You should be able to just remove some of the "bloat" .apk files through adb or a file manager application. That is all I did on my old Incredible.

You are correct just wait, the phone just came out and I'm still waiting on the UPS man lol
only way i found to remove bloat was to make a flashable zip removing all the apks/odex files i wanted.
Bloatware Remover(flashable zip)--> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012388
Your best bet would be to use an app like titanium backup and freeze the bloat while on stock. Why I'm suggesting this is because when you delete the Apks and an update from verizon comes out you can run into problems. That way down the line if you do want to update without flashing a rom you can just unfreeze and not have to worry about finding the bloat and reinstalling for the update.

If you do want to go through and remove the bloatware... What I did, was:
downloaded the flashable ZIP fromt he above thread
opened it with 7-Zip
found and extracted the file META-INF\com\google\android\updater-script
opened that file with notepad++ and went through and added all the .apk and .odex files I want gone (personal preference)
placed the file back in the ZIP
flashed the ZIP
bloat removed

Uninstalling bloatware on the M8 help

So i rooted my phone and installed an app called "Uninstall" that deletes the bloatware and it worked... until I powered it off then on and then I saw the bloatware return. I even tried different apps to get rid of the bloatware with no luck. Please help
Just flash a Rom. All the work is already done for you.

What good is a rooted phone if you don't have either titanium backup or ROM toolbox pro? Either one of those apps will do the trick if you'd like to remain stock. I personally have used ROM toolbox pro for years and prefer it over titanium backup because of it's UI which makes it more user friendly

Ok, I'm not exactly sure how the internal file system is set up as I've yet to receive my M8 but if it's anything like the previous android file systems (which I'm guessing is the case), you can use a file explorer (root explorer, ES explorer, Astro explorer) to navigate to /system/app. You may have to switch R/O to R/W within the file explorer depending on which file explorer you choose to make changes to the internal card. Within the /system/app folder, you'll see all the system apks. BE VERY CAREFUL to NOT delete things you are not absolutely positively sure about. Deleting the wrong app may render your device useless so do be careful. If you do not see the bloat apks you're looking for, navigate back to the internal root directory and search for /data/app. Here is where the other apks should be stored. Perhaps the file system is a little different but i've used 4.4.2 on several different phones and it has been the same structure.

Yes, do a backup in TWRP prior to deleting anything. This way if you do manage to screw something up, you can get back to where you were :good:

That is bizarre. Can't say I've ever encountered that. Custom Romage it is then. I'll need to hold off until a full stock restore with associated flag removals is an option

It might be because you can't write to the system partition, even with root. Flash this kernel over stock and you should be able to delete system apps, even with S-ON http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2705074
