why is my android system using 10 gig? - Xperia Z4 Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an sgp771 and have only had it for 3 month, in looking at storage i see what is shown as android system taking up 9.79 gb of internal storage. I imagine this is not appropriate. How can i remedy this situation? Is root required?

[Q] Internal storage on the Jetstream

Here's another one:
When I go into Settings > Storage, my Jetstream shows I've got 10.77GB Available space under Internal Storage (out of 11.81GB). Under Tablet Storage, I've got 4.97GB Available (out of 16.12GB). As for the Internal Storage part, it has been like this, more or less, since I first bought the Jetstream 7 months ago.
My question is why do I get to use only 16GB out of the 32GB the Jetstream ships with? How do I get to use the Internal Storage for extra space? I had both the Tablet Storage (SD) and the External SD maxed out at one point, and needed to use that free 10GB. I ended up deleting a lot of stuff so that I could go on using it.
Anyone know how to access the unreachable 10GB under Internal Storage?
love the color coding...
its a bug. that's the state of things for now. maybe someday someone could take of it..

I used an app called partition table. As per that, the ~11GB of storage is assigned to the partition /data
So am trying to copy some stuff from my tablet storage (/sdcard) to the /data folder (under a new folder) using Root Explorer.
Shall report back with the details.
Edit: So I tried it - works. Can store the data in a folder within the /data partition. The available free space also changes. However, using apps like MX video player or ezpdf or anything else for that matter, I can not see the data I stored there - I need to go to root explorer and open the files from there. So I guess if you willing to live with this work around for now, may be worth it as we get ~10GB more additional storage. However, you will need to be extremely careful as to not delete anything besides your own data from the /data partition as it can cause quite some havoc if some essential files are deleted. And another important fact is that while wiping for installing a new rom/taking a nandroid-all that you place in the /data folder will also be wiped/backed up. So simpler solution till we get a dev to repartition the /data folder and allocate the additional free space (or part of it) to the /sdcard folder, it will be more sensible to just use a sdcard.
i've mentioned it to show_p1984.
he played with the device this week, and should probably start developing soon.
i'm guessing that if there's a work around - he could create a permanent solution.

Basically the partition table needs reformatting - I know it is done and can be done. Have seen it done for the Samsung Galaxy S, ZTE Balde and also for Samsung Galaxy Ace. I do not however know how to do it - I think while making the rom, changes will have to be integrated because formatting the partitions is part of the process of rom flashing.
Also, there may a temporary easier workaround. There are apps like link2sd which basically make the android system think that a partition on your sd card is the system's /data partition. So we need the reverse. We will need a script which will create a folder in the /sdcard partition which will be linked to the /data partition of the system (or a folder in there). So if we add in some data/files into that particular folder, then it will automatically be referring to the /data partition. It will be like making a folder (say "STUFF") which has its location as "/data/STUFF" and having a shortcut to that folder in the partition /sdcard. We can try to create shortcuts and stuff but it will not be functional because it will be a shortcut. By linking it, we would be able to fool the 3rd party apps into thinking the data is on the sdcard while in reality it is stored on the /data partition, This is basiclally hypothetical logic based on what I found and my experience with link2sd. How far it is true/practical and going to work, I have no idea - so we will have to leave it up the devs.

And I think it will be more sensible to allowed to use a maximum of around 6-7 GB of the 12GB partition so that we will still have ample storage space of apps and stuff.
For all its cons, I still love this tablet.... :S
(and have yet to find a tablet with a better lens/camera)

[Q] Galaxy S4 Internal Storage

Hello I have rooted my Galasy S4 and flashed cm onto the device. My question is how do i free up the internal storage? I still only have less than 9.57gb of available storage. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not much really frees up the space because you can break programs or the phone. You can use FolderMount to symlink files from the SD to the Memory Card. Your limited to 3 symlinks unless you buy the program. Myself I couldn't get it to work but maybe I was linking wrong.

Samsung has reserved 6 GB of space for the system, etc. There is no way to get more space, other than an external SD card.
I just have seen screenshots of available storage at 16.00gb mine only shows 9.57gb. That is the only reason I have asked. Thanks for the responses.
There isnt much we can do about that. All we can do is get a larger sd card
Due to variances in how manufacturers measure their space (GB vs GiB: a short version is using 1000MB = 1GB when, strictly speaking, 1024MB = 1GiB), you will never have the same amount of advertised space available on a device.
A device advertised as 16GB will have between 14.3-14.6GiB of available space, depending on the manufacturer. Cut out ~6 of that for Samsung's bloat, and you're left with the 9.x that we currently have.
Whenever possible, store items on your external storage and research if some of the apps you are using will allow the App2SD function (can anyone verify if this still works? I read somewhere it was disabled with the JellyBean update).
Hope that helps, and good luck managing your space. Perhaps its time we all stop being such space hogs ...........(on second thought...nah!)

Internal storage partitioned..?

Hello,
I recently started getting not enough space when updating my apps, etc and when i go to storage i noticed that the internal storage seems to have 2 partitions.
- One with 1.97GB
- The other one with 11.36GB
Besides that i have a SD card with 32GB.
I am using SuperNexus Milestone 1 and it is great, but this running out of space is not working right for me... Shouldnt the entire internal memory that comes in the Galaxsy S2 be used as 1 internal storage...? It's been so long since i rooted my phone that i cant remember if this was how it was originally setup...
Any ideas?
Thanks.
That's how it was out of the package.
The 11.36 is for data storage, pictures, videos, random user data
The 2gb partition is where apks and config databases get installed.
How much free space do you have on that partition?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
Right now it has 200MB free, but then it shows Internal storage 7GB free and SD card 20GB free...
I was just hoping that the ROMs would use/see the entire internal storage as 1 and the actual SD card as another one. But it seems like this is how android is...?
Is there no ROM that uses the entire internal storage as 1?
Its not how android is. Its how non-nexus devices are.
Nexus devices utilize one large partition for /data and storage. But with the downside that there is no external SD

This is a nexus based ROM with no modifications at all. I guess i ll go to the ROM's topic see what everyone else has.
Thanks.

Notice the part where I said DEVICES? Yeah that part.
It has nothing to do with the ROM you are on and everything to do with the damn partition table which you should not mess with at all.
Go to the ROM's topic and see that everyone else has the same layout as you.

Unbelievable much system memory

After installing Lineage Os the System takes 36 GB of the internal Storage. Does Anybody have this Problem or better a solution to fix it?

It's a known bug in all Los based rooms, the amount of space shown taken up is incorrect. You should have noticed that when it says system is using 36GB on a 32GB phone lol. Instead of showing true system space used it shows total space used on phone memory (internal memory) plus what's used on your ext SD card. Mine shows 96GB used for system, so don't pay attention to it. Los actually only uses about 1GB of space. If you want get a root file browser and check for yourself
THX jeffsga88, didn't know this Bug, but that explains everything. :good:

Andriod 6.0 keeps consuming internal storage after app updates

I have a stock Android 6.0 tablet iBall Slide 4G. When I reset the device, it has 10 GB free out of 16 GB total. I have less than 10 apps on it other than stock Google apps. The problem is that as apps get updated, it keeps consuimg internal storage to such an extend that within a month it consumes total 10 GB free internal storage. Even if I clean cache etc. using clean master app, it does not clear more than 200-300 MB and internal storage is full. I have other Android 6.0 phones like CoolPad Note 5 etc. that have 16 GB internal storage but its memory usage does not exceed more than 1-2 GB even after updating all apps through out the year.
Because of my above problem in my tablet, I have to reset my tablet every month. Please suggest a solution.

Disable automatic Updates from play store.
And only install those updates which are necessary or critical to the apps.
To disable automatic updates
>Goto play store.
>Goto settings from sidebar.
>There will be a option of 'auto update apps', open this
option and select 'do not auto update apps'.
Hit thanks if helped.

I have reeder tab it makes log files. One of them is 35 mb and a month later it makes 100 of them. Your problem could be something like this. I think you should analyze storage. With this you can see which file takes how many storage. To do that I recommend es file exporer. Install es file explorer (recommend v4.0.2 from apkmirror.com) press navigate button choose sd card analyst. If this not work no big files go to settings apps check youtube, facebook, instagram cache some cleaner apps cant detect their cache. Clear them manualy.
Hope these work for you
