Hi, I am attempting to root my Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime - SM-G530FZ, and the guides I have found say to use Odin 3.10.7.
Only problem is, I'm running Windows XP. It seems Odin 3.10.7 is the only one that no longer works with XP, and I haven't been able to find a way to make it work.
Is the version 3.10.7 the version I need to specifically use to use to root my phone, as it said in the guide, or can I use any later version of Odin?

Never mind, I figured out it can be done with 3.10.6. You just need to make sure Windows XP is running Service Pack 2 or 3.
Pass. Success..

I just hot my S3 today and I am struggling with all the new information I have to study here . I was an HTC user all this years so terms like Odin are pretty new to me. Beyond that I have a mac . Very bad combination with Samsung mobile phones. Not even android file transfer is working at the moment. I tried first to accomplish all the rooting and recovery procedure with virtual machine of Windows 7 but the phone is not available to the guest, when it is in download mode. So I thought I will give Heimdall a try eventhouh Odin seems a far better solution. I don't know which programm is better but Heimdall has very bad documentation. So back the subject. I saw numerous complaints about Heimdall 1.3.2 so I decided to start with 1.3.1. My first question is about the pit file. It is not clear to me if I have to extract it from my device and if yes, how can I do this? Does anyone here has experience with this particular software ,to use it under OSX as a daily driver?

Yes and partially negative:
I have flashed the CWM and all went fine.
I have then tried to flash a new stock rom, all went fine and no errors in the program, but then the phone was not working:
it was saying no SIM card installed and was lagged in every operation.
I had to find a Windows PC and reflash with Odin to have my GS3 work again, i suppose Heimdall soft-bricked it, at least the modem part.
To be honest i created myself a Heimdall package with the files of the unpacked stock rom and my own phone downloaded PIT.
But even if i'm pretty sure i did all in the right way, the flashing result was a dead phone.
So, use it with caution ...
So i have never had so many problems with a phone, but this would be the first one a customer tried doing on their own.
So he downloaded the latest file from sammobile for his SCH-i605. he used odin to flash and was stuck in boot loop. I have tried many different methods to try and get his phone working. I have tried all of the alternate method files to no avail. the current file i have flashed is the VRAMC3 restore out of all the files i have tried this is 1 of very few that make it through the write. All the others fail on sboot. It currently sits on the unauthorized verizon blah blah blah. Its had no recovery since he brought it over and havent been able to get recovery back. All i have access to is download mode, some firmwares give me the kies screen talking about an error but cant get it seen in kies versions 2 and 3.
If you need any other info just ask, if i know the answer i will give it. He has no clue as to what OS he was on or even what the ROM that was on there.

If the person tried to ODIN flash the latest firmware version for the SCH-I605, then it would have been VRUFND7 4.4.2 Kit Kat. (Unfortunately... once you install 4.3 or 4.4.2 on our Note 2's, both of those firmwares lock the bootloader with no current do it yourself method to unlock it. You can't successfully flash a prior Android version onto the phone after you upgrade past 4.1.2 either because of the locked bootloader).
Check out Droidstyle's Restore Guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34891181. You will probably need to flash the pit file with the firmware to get it to Odin flash successfully. You can grab the SCH-I605 16gb Pit file from the guide.
Even though Droidstyle's guide is a little old, it is still the same steps for restoring to 4.4.2, so if you follow the guide (section 1b), it should help you fix the phone.
He doesn't have a link for the 4.4.2 firmware, but you can grab it from Sammobile. It looks like the Sammobile site is currently down for maintenance, but the link is here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/30950/I605VRUFND7_I605VZWFND7_VZW.zip/
If you're using an older ODIN, then I would probably try to use a newer Odin version like 3.0.9 or 3.10.0. Make sure you run it with Administrative privileges and disable antivirus programs.
Good luck!

Ive tried that one as well and almost all the files in that thread. When he flashed the 4.4.2 firmware the phone wouldnt boot all it did was flash the Note 2 screen. Ive used the pit file as well with no luck. Using the top file on the link fails almost instantly, VRAMC3 writes and passes but will not boot, shows the unauthorized firmware screen.
I'm wondering if he flashed a firmware onto the phone that was from a different carrier like ATT or something. If so, he may have messed up the phone so bad that it might need jtag to repair it.
You've probably already tried all the normal Odin tips like using a different usb cable, different ports on the computer (usb 2.0 port is recommended), etc... so I won't go over all those.
I've never tried it and don't know if I'd recommend it, but I recall reading some threads a while back where someone discussed trying the Nand Erase function in Odin.... (again.... I'm not saying to do that... but you may want to research it to see if it might be an option if nothing else works).
I've also read where people say that they've used Cygwin to create custom tar files... then they ODIN installed each of the separate partition files (e.g. recovery, boot, modem, system, etc...), onto their Samsung device.
I'm not knowledgeable enough to offer guidance with Cygwin and I'm not sure if either of these ideas would work, but I just thought I'd throw them out there for the sake of brainstorming for ideas. Maybe someone will respond to your request who has more knowledge and ideas.
I wish you luck with getting it fixed.
Hi guys,
Do we know which version of Odin work with Mac OS Mojave? I've tried JOdin3 but Heimdall fails to install, and without it JOdin3 is useless.
Is there any other way to flash the firmware on Mac?

When I had a Mac in the past, I used a program called Wine (I don't remember the full name) and it allowed me to run .exe programs
GOOD AFTERNOON
I PURCHASED A SAMSUNG GALAXY PLAYER 5.0 US VERSION AND ATTEMPTED TO ROOT IT. I UNLOCKED THE BOOTLOADER, THEN ATTEMPTED TO ROOT THROUGH ODIN 1.7.0. THE ATTEMPTED ROOT BRICKED THE PHONE AND GAVE THE "PHONE-YELLOW TRIANGLE-PC" ICON, AS SHOWN IN THE PHOTO.
I FOUND SEVERAL tar FILES, AND OTHER ASSORTED FILES AND ATTEMPTED TO UNBRICK THE GALAXY PLAYER. FOR SOME REASON ODIN DOES NOT READ THE DEVICE AND NOTHING HAPPENS WHEN USING THE pit FILE. WHAT STEPS SHOULD I TAKE TO UNBRICK THE DEVICE.
I READ ABOUT HEIMDALL SUITE, BUT THIS IS 2021, THAT SOFTWARE DOES NOT WORK ON MY SURFACE BOOK 2 EVEN AFTER INSTALLING VISUAL STUDIO C+++ 2010

IDK if it helps in your situation, but here is a guide how to root your device in an easy way:
Rooting the Galaxy Player (All Versions) (Windows, Mac, Linux)
Hello All, I just bought a Galaxy Player yesterday and wanted to root. Okay, I thought, to XDA I go. It seems the general consensus here is to use SuperOneClick. While the SuperOneClick method may work for most people running Windows, it's...

To unbrick you need to boot the device either into recovery or download mode.
An alternative to flash firmware files to Samsung devices is Odin (for windows).
Hi, I have an old Samsung Galaxy Tablet 10.1 SCH-i925 that is not rooted and still has the original OS (Android 4.1.2) on it.
I'm trying to update to Lineage OS 16.0 using Odin, but have not been able to. I've tried several versions of the Samsung USB Driver for Mobile Phones, and several versions of Odin, as well as different USB cables. Does anyone have any advice for what I could do next? I realize this may be a basic question but I've sunk 20+ hours into this and am lost.

You install custom ROM via custom recovery, for example TWRP.

Thanks for the prompt reply! I was under the impression that Odin was required to install TWRP in the first place. Is there another way to transfer TWRP to the device and access it through the bootloader mode on the tablet ("power + volume up") ?

Of course you did, but you wrote:
"I'm trying to update to Lineage OS 16.0 using Odin"
You must use the exact version of Odin that is recommended for your model, which is 3.13.1. I use The Muppets version.
There are no Samsung drivers other than these:
Samsung Android USB Driver | Samsung Developers
You need the driver only if you are developing on Windows and want to connect a Samsung Android device to your development environment over USB.

Ok! I downloaded Samsung Android USB Driver for Windows v1.7.59 and am using the muppets version of Odin (3.13.1), and it still fails to transfer any files. I tried with an auto-root .tar file and TWRP. I've attached the Odin window output for reference:
Oh, this is for a galaxy *note* tablet, not the thing I have. You may want to update the post title to add that detail. I had to google the SCH-i925 to be sure...

I don't understand why you want to flash something for n8010 when you have a tablet from Verizon?
Show the tablet property screen with hardware and firmware information.
Have you unlocked the bootloader?

I read in various other places that the auto-root file and TWRP file for the n8010 works for the Verizon version (SCH-i925) since it's essentially the same device. I may be wrong though...I cannot find a specific TWRP file online for this version of the 10.1.
I have attached the device details to this post.
Unfortunately, extensive searching online indicates that there is no easy way to unlock the bootloader for the sch-i925: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...root-jailbreak-recovery.3400894/post-79789473
Any advice on these various issues would be greatly appreciated!

Without an unlocked bootloader, you probably aren't flashing TWRP or a custom ROM. In stock ROM you can root easily, even with Towelroot.
There's nothing more I can't help, so as not to harm.
Ok well thanks for your help!
