So, I got this phone but it's stuck on 3G. I saw it once switch to H, but I never got it on LTE.
I tried selecting it in the operator menu scan thing, and LTE is detected, but it doesn't want to kick in when I press it. Any ideas? Running the latest 7.0 build.
EDIT: Went outside, and 4G LTE came on. It went away after a reboot and it's still not back.
EDIT #2: It seems like this is actually a feature, it switches to LTE when I turn off/get out of WiFi.
So this is solved.

I recently upgraded from the Incredible to the Rezound and find that when 4G not available, the signal drops down to 1X. Not only that, it seems to stay in 1X even when 4G is available. How can I get the phone to drop to 3G when 4G not available? The Incredible ran in 3G in the same areas that the Rezound drops to 1X. What do I have to set to get it into 3G?
Thanks for help.
both my GF and I have been having trouble with this on both our phones... We both live and work in 4G coverage, pretty strong coverage too. Yet we both see 4g drop out to 3g or 1x. Its very random, and I've had it happen right in the middle of browsing the web. (All of a sudden a page takes forever to load or doesnt and the phone acts like it has no data connection, I go to the home screen and see that I am all of a sudden on 1x..)
I recently read an article that talked about how VZW actually has a pretty major issue they need to resolve pertaining to authentication on the LTE network. I don't know the exact mechanics of it, but basically the authentication fails and you get booted off the LTE network until the phone tries to hop on it again. Right now, the two phones I have personal experiance with do not try very often to get back on and it often takes going into the wireless settings page and selecting mobile networks and going in and out of that screen a couple times, or if it is being stubborn, airplane mode, site for a minute, and then back on. Occasionally I have to reboot the phone.
It really irritated me good last night when I really needed the data connection for GPS navigation because I took a wrong turn in an unfamiliar area..
Sometimes going in and out of airplane mode helps or restart.
I'm not going to say look on the forums. Here is a quote from another thread and linked another thread.
had the same issue and fixed by this.

phone will reboot and you should get 3G back
This changes your network from eHRPD back to EVDO Rev.A. For LTE phone owners, eHRPD causes 3G to die (most of the time anyway) when the LTE network has problems. Get back on normal EVDO and you're good to go.
^ from Jntdroid on another forum (not sure if we're allowed to post to other forums here) I'm not positive on where he got it from, but this is a capability of all HTC 4G phones
I've had occasional issues with being down to 1X, but even that was only during nationwide 4G network issues, definitely get in touch with VZW about that... not that they have enough sense to fix anything *sigh*

Good luck. It's what fixed mine.

Same issue here. Only happens when I go from a 4G area to a 3G area. I end up getting stuck in 1x. The phone switches fine from 3G to 4G. But when going back to a 3G only area, it by-passes 3G and I get 1x.
No toggling helps. I have to reboot to get 3G back. I also tried that fix posted above. It does not help. Called verizon again tonight.
The strange part is before we had that 4G outage a few months ago, the phone would switch just fine. Now it's a pain in the ass.
Sorry it isn't helping. It worked in mine and done exactly the way it told me. Go from 3-4g now without an issue. No 1x like before

Important info: Running CM9 (len00bs)
So last night I had an AT&T sim card that i wanted to try out in the rezound. Powered down, popped out the vzw card, popped in the AT&T card. Couldn't get signal to show up, so i powered down and popped the vzw card again and got signal. I'm stuck on 3G and it won't go to 4G. I checked to make sure the settings were on LTE/CDMA, and I tried toggling LTE Only and it goes to no signal with a roaming logo. I tried toggling data on and off, and it still kicks on to 3G only. It was working perfectly prior to popping in that AT&T sim. Tried restoring my original backup through TWRP, but it won't go passed the 4G boot logo (assuming i need to flash the old boot.img back on for it to boot properly?). So then i restored the CM9 backup i had and i'm back to the 3G only issue.
Is there something else I need to do to get it to see this is a 4G card?
Found the problem. Even though LTE was selected in the front end on CM9, I went into *#*#4636#*#* and it showed GSM was selected. Looks like popping in that ATT sim flipped this to GSM/CDMA auto (PRL), thus limiting me to 3G. I changed it to LTE/CDMA auto (PRL) and bam 4G is back. :good:
I was out of town this past weekend. Wisconsin Dells if anyone is interested. While I was there I was experiencing some bad signal, so I read multiple times that you could force a PRL update for your phone to allow it to possibly roam on newer towers. I dialed the *228, then pressed 2. After the update my phone will now only connect to 3g. Even back home now, which I know for sure is a 4g area, I am still stuck on 3g. I spent quite a while messing with settings. The one that controls what network to use. I tried them all really. But its set to LTE/CDMA only right now.
I was running CM10.1 from 8/3. So I formatted system/data/cache/dalvik, everything basically, reflashed the latest build of CM 10.1, and it is still doing it.
Any other ideas before I reflash back to stock and call Verizon?
So I flashed back to stock. Still stuck in 3g. But in the touchwiz interface now it's a bit odd. In Mobile Networks, the list item says Preferred network mode: CDMA/LTE/EVDO. When I touch it, it presents 3 options, Global, LTE / CDMA, and GSM / UMTS. The LTE / CDMA item is selected. The odd part is that even though LTE is listed first on the option when it is selected from the pop up menu, it still says CDMA is first in the preferred network mode, the gray text. That is even more odd is that if I select the GSM one, it doesn't connect to anything, which is expected. But then if I go back into the option and select LTE / CDMA, the status bar icon will say 4g for a half second and then say 3g.
Any ideas?
I found this. Is my sim card really toasted?
https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/786562
"I was recently browsing a different message board to see what was being said about the GS3's poor reception and data, and I came across a discussion on "updating towers" using *228. From what I read, it seems that dialing this number from a 4G phone not only does nothing to update your towers, but it also destroys your SIM card, and prevents you from accessing 4g. Consequently, you will need to get a replacement SIM card. I find it hard to believe that Verizon would allow something like this to happen. It seems that they would notify their customers when upgrading.
Has this happened to anyone???"
Update: I called Verizon. They confirmed the sim can get toasted if you dial *228 on a 4g phone. So I'll have to go into the store tomorrow morning to get a new sim. The support guy was cool about it. It said he did this exact same thing himself before he started working for Verizon.
Yeah I have heard that dialing *228 from a 4G phone is a big no-no but I didnt know that it actually fries your sim. At least you can get another one for free.

This could be a handy sticky. Just in case more people try/do this.

I wish I had seen this thread sooner and I have been spending days trying to figure out why my phone would no longer connect to the LTE network after traveling to a 3G only area. Whoops!
I definitely think this should be a sticky - or at least warning not to use *228.
My wife and I bought Verizon LG G3s on the same day last month. Lately mine has been dropping from LTE to 3G most of the time. Hers is always LTE. This happens when the phones are in the same location.
IS there anything in the settings that might be causing this problem and is there anything I can do to get back consistent LTE?
My phone does the same. Once it switches to 3g from 4g it has a rough time going back. My wife's g2 doesn't have this problem. Since we can't update our radio's I suggest making airplane mode your best friend.
Do you me toggling airplane mode on and off solves the problem for you?
What I don't get is that after going Airplane mode or turning off Call Data, and then turning it back on again my phone will sync at -93dbm LTE for a little bit, maybe 2 minutes or so, but as soon as it goes to sleep and I wake it up it lands at -103dbm and never back at -93dbm.
I think the radio in these phones has problems.
I don't know if this will help or not but when I bought my G3 "global" mode was default instead of LTE/CDMA.
Try changing it and see if that helps.
Settings
Mobile networks
System select
Network mode
-change global to lte/cdma
Mine is on global. The other choice, LTE, GSM,UMTS is greyed out. However, my phone is on 4gLTE at the moment.
Switched mine from Global to LTE/CDMA and the signal strength jumped to -93dbm but a minute later it was back to -102dbm.
When this issue occurs do you see a SIM icon with a question mark in it? Ive been having an issue where it drops from 4g to LTE and that icon appears, toggling airplane mode or restarting the phone fixes it. Im going to try getting a new SIM next time it occurs, but im definitely worried about getting a replacement phone that is on the "C" software version (no root right now)

No I have not seen a SIM card icon. It's purely a signal issue. I rarely if ever drop out of 4G where I live but I wonder why the signal starts out at something like -93 until the phone goes to sleep and then ends up at a solid -103dbm.
Seems weird.
Power management on the radio might be too aggressive as the phone warms up ?

I just bought a LG G5 RS988 (Unlocked Model) recently and at first I had really bad connections indoor I said to myself this is probably normal.
Then I just saw that the phone seems to be only in 3G in the corner but apparently it's suppose to be able to get 4G.
I googled it and apparently it happened since the nougat update, many users lost the ability to use the 4G connection.
I'm I the only one with this issues ?
The phone boots, it stays on LTE, on the main screen then once you logon it switches to 3G WCDMA and stays there.
I have 3 options in the data menu tried all the ticks (Global) and it picks up the LTE 3G, the LTE/GSM somehow disable the whole data mode and the other one too, and the only way to get the phone to have a very good connection is on GSM only by accessing the secret DEV debug option :
*#546368#*988#
Select Field Test, Modem Settings, and RAT Selection, then selecting GSM Only.
Then my data bar goes full or 4/5 inside my apartment near the window.
GSM / WCDMA / LTE Auto :
LTE only : Makes it a X Disabled
LTE / WCDMA : Goes on 3G 2/5 bars
LTE / GSM : Goes on 3G 2/5 bars
GSM / WCDMA : Goes on 3G 2/5 bars
WCDMA : Goes on 3G 2/5 bars
GSM Only : Goes on normal G 4/5 bars
It's like the LTE doesn't work at all...
My experience
I've been researching the issue myself. I have found that it's either your carrier's network doesn't "whitelist" your IMEI number, so it won't connect to LTE, or your phone doesn't fully support all of the bands that are needed to connect. I have the RS988 and mine needs to have airplane mode toggled on and off or the carrier settings toggled to global and back in order for it to go to LTE. Otherwise if I try to use the LTE only setting, I cannot make or receive calls.
In other forums, they mention downgrading the OS to marshmallow to get LTE working again. I tried this... It was painful to perform and after a bootloop I finally got the phone to stock marshmallow. However, once I finally got it working and I made a call, it went right back down to H or H+ and stayed there.
My impression of the issue is that someone could make an app to toggle back and forth from the original carrier setting (LTE/GSM/UMTS) to a second setting (GLOBAL) and back to the original network setting (LTE/GSM/UMTS) after a call is made... This would be a simple way to fix the issue and get back on LTE even though it isn't perfect. This is probably your best bet to get on LTE because even custom ROM's don't seem to fix the issue for me.
It's a very bizarre issue. If anyone else has a better answer or more knowledge on the issue, please let me know.
If anyone knows why this phone seems to specifically have these issues, also please let me know.
