I just bought a LG G5 RS988 (Unlocked Model) recently and at first I had really bad connections indoor I said to myself this is probably normal.
Then I just saw that the phone seems to be only in 3G in the corner but apparently it's suppose to be able to get 4G.
I googled it and apparently it happened since the nougat update, many users lost the ability to use the 4G connection.
I'm I the only one with this issues ?
The phone boots, it stays on LTE, on the main screen then once you logon it switches to 3G WCDMA and stays there.
I have 3 options in the data menu tried all the ticks (Global) and it picks up the LTE 3G, the LTE/GSM somehow disable the whole data mode and the other one too, and the only way to get the phone to have a very good connection is on GSM only by accessing the secret DEV debug option :
*#546368#*988#
Select Field Test, Modem Settings, and RAT Selection, then selecting GSM Only.
Then my data bar goes full or 4/5 inside my apartment near the window.
GSM / WCDMA / LTE Auto :
LTE only : Makes it a X Disabled
LTE / WCDMA : Goes on 3G 2/5 bars
LTE / GSM : Goes on 3G 2/5 bars
GSM / WCDMA : Goes on 3G 2/5 bars
WCDMA : Goes on 3G 2/5 bars
GSM Only : Goes on normal G 4/5 bars
It's like the LTE doesn't work at all...
My experience
I've been researching the issue myself. I have found that it's either your carrier's network doesn't "whitelist" your IMEI number, so it won't connect to LTE, or your phone doesn't fully support all of the bands that are needed to connect. I have the RS988 and mine needs to have airplane mode toggled on and off or the carrier settings toggled to global and back in order for it to go to LTE. Otherwise if I try to use the LTE only setting, I cannot make or receive calls.
In other forums, they mention downgrading the OS to marshmallow to get LTE working again. I tried this... It was painful to perform and after a bootloop I finally got the phone to stock marshmallow. However, once I finally got it working and I made a call, it went right back down to H or H+ and stayed there.
My impression of the issue is that someone could make an app to toggle back and forth from the original carrier setting (LTE/GSM/UMTS) to a second setting (GLOBAL) and back to the original network setting (LTE/GSM/UMTS) after a call is made... This would be a simple way to fix the issue and get back on LTE even though it isn't perfect. This is probably your best bet to get on LTE because even custom ROM's don't seem to fix the issue for me.
It's a very bizarre issue. If anyone else has a better answer or more knowledge on the issue, please let me know.
If anyone knows why this phone seems to specifically have these issues, also please let me know.

Hello,
I am coming from an Inspire 4g phone have been using the Not since its release date. I am having a similar issue with my Note that the Inspire had, but I am unable to work-around the issue the way the Inspire did.
My issue is that while my phone has great cell tower signal, my phone drops into Edge connectivity constantly. Prior to my Note upgrade, my Inspire would do the same thing, but I had a couple of work arounds I could do to lock back into 4G (HSPA+).
A) I could reboot the phone and the overwhelming majority of times it would go back to H+.
B) I could turn the mobile data radio off and then back on and again, the majority of the times, it would go back to H+.
C) The fix I used most often was to go into the phone dialer and dial *#*#4636#*#*. This brings up a back door to the testing screens and I could access the phone information section. In phone information, I could change the preferred network type and I would change from the default WCDMA preferred to either GSM ONLY or WCDMA ONLY depending on the area I was in. This not only work with near 100% success, it also locked the signal into H+ for longer periods of time.
Now that I have my Note, I have the same issue with the phone dropping to Edge service. However, when I try each of the 3 methods above, including *#*#4636#*#*, my phone stays locked into Edge. I can not get it to change.
I called AT&T about the issue and they explained to me that the phone will lock into the stronger signal, so if Edge is stronger, that is what I will get. I told them about my workaround with my Inspire and they could not give an explanation why it worked with that phone. I did talk them into re-sending the network information to my phone while on the call. They sent the information and while I was sitting still with full bars of signal strength, the phone miraculously popped into 4G service. I asked why it would change from Edge to H+ when they sent the network information since I didn't move to affect the signal and they could give me no explanation.
Does anyone have an idea how to make the Note ignore Edge service if H+ is available? If I can't figure this out, the Note is going back and I will stay with my Inspire 4G for now.
Thanks,
Roger
Flash the Rogers modem(I think)..its got RAT access or whatever its called.

(I don't have a Note yet but...) Settings- Wireless and Network- Mobile Network- Network Preferences. Maybe you can force it there. Keep in mind this is an LTE phone, and SIM, so a little different than our Inspires.

As stated, this is not available in stock rom nor TPC Note 2, which I am currently running. However, based on what I remember seeing on other Samsung phones, the *#*#4636#*#* feature I reference is supposed to do the same thing.
Thanks for the replies. Looks like the RAT feature is locked. Using the Rogers Radio seems to fix the problem, but breaks video playback at this time.
I found it an other thread, so I don't take any credit for it as someone else posted it, but I have confirmed it works on my Galaxy Note
*#*#197328640#*#* > debug screen > phone control > network control > band selection
You need to do this after each reboot though as it does not stick.
To work around this I have made a contact and only left out the last * in it, so all you do is use that as a speed dial and you are good to go
I used to get LTE around here with this phone. Since about a month ago, things have gotten weird. If I use LTE/cdma/evdo mode or global, it just goes to 3G and never connects to LTE. If I go to LTE/gsm/wcdma, it gets LTE but no voice or text (which makes sense because Verizon isn't GSM). The LTE performance also seems really bad in this mode. It seems as though 3G is somehow prioritized above LTE, so if both are allowed it defaults to 3G. Manually switching APN's doesn't help. If I select "LTE - Verizon Internet" it doesn't connect to data and then after about 30 seconds goes to "EHRPC - Verizon Internet " and connects to 3G. Similar results on multiple different ROMs and radios.
I'm wondering if the SIM card could somehow be to blame. If I go to the Verizon store, will they give me a free SIM despite having CM on my phone? Don't care about warranty, phone is over a year old.
Are you on a custom or stock Rom? Is there a "Global" setting under networks? That's what my s4 uses. I don't think it could be your SIM cause if it was you wouldn't have any signal at all, not just 4g.
Hi,
I have been experiencing a few issues with the 4G LTE on my LG V10 H901 (T-Mobile). What happens is this.
In Network mode I selected GSM / WCDMA / LTE Auto. This initially worked fine and could get a data connection. 2 days after, I noticed I couldn't get a data connection anymore, the 4G LTE icon at the top was displaying with a down arrow lit. So I went in the Network mode and checked my APN everything was ok. Decided to switch from GSM / WCDMA Auto where I got a 4G connection (icon 4G displayed at the top) and I finally got a data connection.. Changed it back to GSM / WCDMA / LTE Auto, and there I was back on LTE... I had to reboot my phone and that is when I noticed the same thing happened again!!! No LTE connection and had to first select GSM / WCDMA Auto to get 4G.. If I reboot with GSM / WCDMA Auto I get a data connection fine.. The problem only occurs when I have the Network mode on GSM / WCDMA / LTE Auto. Anyone else having this issue? Is there a fix?
Thanks
I would say it's a hardware problem with the phone I've had mine for a month i never touched network settings and the phone gets a better data connection then any phone I've ever had LTE pretty much all the time where other phones wouldn't maybe a factory reset would fix it worth a shot
The first V10 i got from T-Mobile had somewhat of a similar problem but with WiFi, it would connect but speed was horrible. And LTE isnt that great in my area either. I read around the forums and notice that many have done factory resets and that fixes everything. I did that and lowe and behold, it did. WiFi was fast again and LTE speed improved but still sucks....its my area, not the phones fault. For some reason, a reset helps.
However, I was still just 4 days in since I got my phone so I just went back and had them replace it. I just told them that the WiFi doesnt hold....they didnt really ask me tons of questions. I replaced it only because I am paying for the phone and me having to do a "fix" to make it work doesnt sound right...so I want a new good phone lol. The new phone worked fast from the get go...no reset needed.
Just got the V10 was having those wifi issues initially so brought phne back n exchanged for another 1 and this 1 workes fine but now Im having dropped call s inside my house ,verizon said no antenna issues i can bring phne back n replace for something else or another v10 but that is time consuming ,please anyone having drop d call s....I live Long Island NY so verizon overage is better then most carriers...INaNYmin...
I began having the exact same issue on Jan 16. Had the phone since Dec 25th, worked perfect. Then, all of a sudden, it began to lose LTE connectivity. At first I thought it was a down tower, but the problems persisted an eventually got much worse wherever I went. On a full charge the phone will behave normally for a while, but eventually it starts losing data connectivity altogether, cycling between 4G LTE, 4G, 3G, 2G, trying to connect. during this process the battery drains a lot, it never really connects, and sometimes calls and text messaging fail. Tried every network setting, soft reboot, hard reboot, safe mode, clear cache, factory reset....problem persists. T-mobile concludes it must be defective. We shall see. Awaiting a replacement.
Having the same issue. Looks like it's a common problem. Any fix for this yet?
I have a similar issue.
it always seems to find the LTE signal, however I have no data and the battery drains very quickly.
If I have it on GSM/WCDMA/LTE, it seems to have connection issues. However, the data will connect on GSM/WCDMA. Once I have data, then if I select GSM/WCDMA/LTE, and it will connect to LTE
It is a Tmobile version. I am using it on Bell (Canada)... however it works fine with Wind & Tmobile, with no issues.
I am hoping that this will be fixed with the Marshmallow upgrade.

Wind works on hspa not LTE. That's why it works. I've noticed that it works fine on hspa(4g) but when I put it on LTE(4gLTE) it works for a while then stops.

For me, Wind works fine on GSM/WCDMA or GSM/WCDMA/LTE
With Bell, it will not connect on GSM/WCDMA/LTE.
However, with Bell, if I put it on GSM/WCDMA, it will connect. Then if I change it to GSM/WCDMA/LTE, it will connect to Bell's LTE.
Occasionally, it will lose its data connection... and then if I toggle between GSM/WCDMA & back to GSM/WCDMA/LTE, it reconnects. This seems to happen once every 2-3 days
I don't know why it does this. It was actually very frustrating until I figured that out. I almost dropped Bell because I was not able to connect on LTE for the longest time!!
I just keep my Wind plan for the US roaming (on Tmobile LTE down there)

Yup exact same issue with me and that's how I resolve it as well I'm with koodo and I lose LTE. I was going to warranty this phone but I think it's a common issue.
I just want to quickly point out that I am seeing the exact same issue on Virgin Mobile (Bell). I also noticed that the performance of the phone decreases drastically when it is connected through mobile data instead of WiFi. Anyone else sees this and knows how to fix it?
Lg v10 t mobile no connection
I'm having a similar issue I get a 4G LTE signal but if I make a call once I end it I loose all signal including the bars it wont let me text or call it says network not available and it will do that till I travel a few miles. I'm not in a dead zone because it does it in the heart of the city and on the buisest streets in Tampa Florida then it will come back and sometimes I won't get a signal for a entire day out shoe have any solutions?

Hey,
I'm using this phone in Canada too, on Telus. Ever since the OTA update 2 days ago I've been having data connection errors over the network. Did you find a fix?

I'm seeing this too, but it just started after my OTA update. So frustrating bc I love the phone.
I had a similar problem. With The latest software (,,v20c,,) With the LGUP Software I software put it back (,,v20a,,) . And it seems the problem disappeared. Last part of the modem software is not good. Even test elements. Sorry for my bad english for knowledge. LGUP software very simply . ( i have V10 960A Unlocked (Eu version) android 6.0 and T-mobile LTE )

I recently purchased an Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro phone (kenzo), it covers all the bands that rogers uses in my area in Canada, I believe.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogers_Wireless
I can connect with the phone on LTE, HSPA+ with no problem, if available. Sometimes, if I am in certain area's, the signal indicator drops to 3G .... it shows a decent signal, but no calls or data can go through.
In this example on the following chart, the first WCDMA connection,my phone only indicates 3G and I can not make a call or use data. When my call attempt is done, it goes back to LTE. Then I try again. Then for the second WCDMA connection on the chart, I am connected as H+, I can make a call and use data. Whenever this phone connects to CID 31072 the problem happens. When I connect to CID 31075, no problem. These are just examples of towers that I reach from my home. I get the same problem occuring other areas.
Any suggestions on what I need to change on my phone? Is my phone making a kind of 3G connection for some reason, which Rogers doesn't support? I have tried everything I can think of, Miui dev versions, CM13, LineageOS 14.1 etc, change Android Radio Menu settings, etc.
Nothing seems to fix this issue.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
I have been using Network Signal Guru, and have figured out that the phone will connect calls data on 3g if the band it finds is B5-850M .... if the tower tries to connect to is B2-PCS-1900 the call fails.
I tried to block the use of band 2 with Network Signal Guru, but it seems to still use it when it finds it.
I have since flashed a LineageOS rom and used the Network Signal Guru to disable band 2 WCDMA. The phone has not been experiencing the issue at all since. I am cautiously optimistic that I have found a solution. Still not sure why this band doesn't work here though.
Poco F1 (MIUI Global Stable V11.0.8.0.QEJMIXM ROM) has significantly better 4G signal strength than 3G or 2G. In fact I got problem with that, when I'll recieve call or make a call, the phone automatically from 4G goes to 3G or 2G, and in that moment signal strength bars goes from 5 bars (4G) to 1-2 bars (3G) and often other side cannot hear my voice. Later I choose manualy network (3G or 2G) and when I try yo make a call => "Cellular network not available"
What should be the problem? Is it software or hardware problem? ...btw I make a clean install/flash thru fastbot of MIUI Stable V11.0.8.0.QEJMIXM few days ago, but I cannot notice some differences

It means that VoLTE (Voice over LTE) is not enabled or it is not available in your region. That is why it is switching to 3g network to make a call. As for the signal bars, never trust miui on that. Got to about phone -> and find a option where it shows imei, sim status, etc.

Yes, in my country VoLTE is not available, but I don't see that as an insufficiency, I use it only for data/internet 4G.
MIUI signal bars should "work" same for both 4G and 3G/2G, i think it is some other problem. Btw use it code *#*#4636#*#* (testing mode) and there i can manually set my network (WCDMA only, GSM only, LTE only, CDMA, TD-SCDMA/UMTS... and all variations of them). Usually LTE strength signal is "70-80dbm / 50-60asu". When I set to WCDMA only or GSM only it is ""100-110dbm / 1-10asu" and that's in the middle of the city (where I live). When I enter some Mall, stairs of building or hike on local mountains, when I want to make a call, the result is "CELLULAR NETWORK NOT AVAILABLE " :crying:
Does it can be antenna problem? But then, why 4G signal is far better than 3G? Does it have separate antennas??? I got no idea really what should be the problem about that

Without VoLTE you cannot make a call on 4G network. The SIM will automatically switch to 3G/2G. It's the same across all phones, all carriers, and in any country.

It is OK that. I know that. In fact, I GOT PROBLEM WITH 3G AND 2G SIGNAL STRENGTH. I mention 4G just to compare signals. I got 5 bars on 4G and 1-2 bars on 3G/2G on the same location. I have super fast internet thru 4G (50-100mbps), while when I set manually to 3G it didn't even connect data, furthermore, I cannot make a call (Cellular network not available). Obviously it is a strange problem. I'm not arguing about VoLTE or 4G...
Is it the same antenna for 2G, 3G and 4G signal? Should I replace it? I will repeat myself again, I can't get HOW CAN 4G signal be better than 3G/2G?!
I insert both SIM cards (with POCO F1 I use dual sim cards) to other phones (Xiaomi Mi4c, Alcatel Pixi 4, Lenovo A536...) and everything is OK with all of them. So, that means it is a POCO F1 problem.

Try changing slots. Or try a different carrier. The culprit could be your network provider. If the problem still persists go to any service center and get it checked. BTW it is actually strange to see that 3g/2g network is weaker than 4g. Usually it is the other way around.
