You must officialy unlock your bootloader and then using MiFlash etc. (Googling how unlock and root redmi 3)
Exist some unofficialy method, but I think this is the best and without risks.
If you have officially unlock from Xiaomi and lost it, its easy, doing it again on their unlock site, you canĀ“t wait again. And than you can flash TWRP and super su again.

Hey guys,
I am trying to prepare my Nexus 9 to receive root (when that happens) and I was wondering if unlocking the bootloader will suffice for the time being? That means it will wipe it once, and I can start using my Nexus 9 without worrying of wiping it in the future.
Then it means as soon as TWRP comes out with a version that supports Nexus 9 I just need to flash that (no need to wipe device) and then flash SuperSU (no wiping either)
Am I missing something here?
You're right but...
Hey ombadboy
I think this will work. Don't forget to enable the oem unlock in the developer settings before. Otherwise your try to unlock will fail. Maybe you shouldn't flash the first versions of twrp, because this will be the first one for Lollipop und encrypted storage. Just boot the image once and flash superSU. So you will still get OTA updates.
After unlocking you should be able to root without losing your data twice.
After a few time and if there are no more OTAs in the near future you can flash a stable TWRP image.

See the guide here. http://www.theandroidsoul.com/unlock-bootloader-nexus-9/
Thanks for the replied guys. Yes, that's exactly what I did; now I have an unlocked bootloader.
So if I understood this well, can I get root without flashing a custom recovery? If so, what's the purpose of flashing one?

The purpose of having a custom recovery is to flash custom roms.
Here's some info for root

Recovery allows you to flash anything to device without doing manually with root explorer, adb or fastboot. Can do most anything you can do with recovery with these 3 tools.
Hi I have a A520L Alcatel Pop Star Nova Lte. I had try many root method like Kingo Root, King Root, Towelroot, Framaroot and Wondershare MobileGo, all those cant root my phone successfully. Some are them success rooted but after 4 to 5 minutes I check "root checker" it says I dont have root access. Sometime on other way I go to stock recovery mode, it doesnt have "apply to sd card or external" which is sucks that I cant go there to zip any files or su binary update in order to root. It only have wipe data and wipe cache. I cant download CWM or any kind of app to flash it because I dont have root permission yet. Can anybody help to root my phone? Im running 4.4.4 kitkat.

you shouldn't need root to flash a custom recovery via adb in your phones bootloader.
I don't know what firmware you are on or much about your phone, but if you are on android 5.0+ you may want to find a kernel dev who can take your stock boot.img and make it permissive and implement the su binaries into the kernel. then you could flash a custom recovery then flash an updater script with the new kernel and su.apk
sorry I'm not a kernel dev or I would help you to do it.
I dont know whats firmware is but I know its running 4.4.4 kitkat.

Hi,
i found my rn4 SD locked with "activate phone", and once unlocked it was wiped as well.
I am on the official global stable 9.6.2.0.
Question: if I root, since unlocking bootloader will wipe it again as well, will I find any files with PC recovery tools or is that useless?
Otherwise I will just go ahead and use it as it is.
Since I had not planned to mod this device, I need to check the correct steps to root.
I suppose that would be mi unlock (waiting the 72 hours).
Install twrp
root
?
Thanks for any help
I want to root my phone. But it requires TWRP to be installed. To install TWRP I need to Unlock the Bootloader. To Unlock the Bootloader, I'll have to keep a backup of my data,as my phone erases everything on Unlock. To backup my Data, I need TWRP to be installed with Root Access.
