Stylo 2 destroyed - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone got broken and I downgraded to a ZTE phone. I didn't sync my contacts and was able to save the sum card. Is there ANY WAY for me to get contacts off sim onto my new phone? PLEASE HELP!!!

The contacts aren't saved to the Sim card normally, they have to be manually added. So if they aren't in the Sim already then no (which more than likely they aren't). I would check your Google account and just make sure your contacts weren't synced because if not, there's no other way to get them back unless you have access to the old phone and can sync them or share them over Bluetooth or something like that.

[Q] Two HD2's linkning ?

I have a wierd situation I am wondering if someone else may have had the same experience with. My wife and I just got 2 HD2 Leo from Tmobile. I installed the Droid Nexus ROM on it. Everything seems ok except the wierdest thing keeps happening. In Droid if one of us adjusts our contacts somehow it affects both phones. I was at work today when she made some changes to her contacts and it deleted some of mine. How could this be happening? The phones are miles apart. Does anyone know whats up? Also is there an easy way to delete all contacts in the Nexus one without having to select one by one. Thanks for any help!

You don't mean SIM contacts, right? Because both of you guys have different sim cards so I'm leaning toward google contacts or other web-based email contacts?
well actually I mean sim card phonebook contacts. On my phone last night I was in windows and copied all my contacts to the SIM, Then I booted DROID and imported the contacts to the directory. Well this morning my wife noticed all my contacts had been stored in her phone. I thought that was wierd but what made it crazier is that she then deleted all but a few contacts from her phone. On my way home this evening I noticed I only had a few contacts in my list. Really Wierd. What she changed also affected my phone. We have HD2 Leos running DROID Nexus,
Any Thoughts?
Are both of you running the droid ROM? So you flash the same ROM onto both phones, correct? I'm sure the explanation here is very simple just that I can't articulate it in a manner that is best understood by you. It couldn't have been SIM contacts because those are unique to the SIM, and you can't delete/add contacts to that SIM unless it's actually on the phone that you're operating. Under winmo, if your contact is saved onto a SIM, then you should see the sim card icon next to their name, if it's a PHONE contact, then it has a figure of a person next to their contact.
Imagining if I'm using an IM client, if I add a friend's screen name on the computer, and that new screen name is linked to my account on a web server, then I expect the new screen name to show up on the chat client on my phone. I suspect the same thing is happening with your phone. You probably set both phones up with the same account and whatnot, and when you add/delete/sync new contacts, it affects whoever is using that account. I don't think this has anything to do with SIM contacts at all, but has to do with google accounts when you first set up the phone with the droid ROM. Again, that's just my guess.
I think I understand what you mean. We did actually use the same Gmail account to set up each ROM. So we should use different Gmail accounts huh? I didn't realize there was such an intricate connection between Gmail and DROID OS. I am totally new to the DROID, actually this is my first smartphone period.
So what do you suggest is the fix? Hard reset one phone ? How to I get it back to where I can put a different gmail account on the phone?
How do i delete my contacts off her phone now ? lol
You don't need to hard reset. You're running android off of an SD card so just delete (or format if you want) everything android related off of that SD card and put in another copy. When you go through the setup/registration process, use a different gmail account. WHAM!
So I can just delete the android folder from the phone? I really don't want to have to format it if I can get around it. doesn't that wipe everything off the drive?
what drive? I meant formatting your SD card. Anyway, I think i'm just confusing you even more.
Yes, delete the android folder and create a new one on the SD card.

[Q] Saving Contacts?

When saving new contacts it ask if I want it save to phone, sim card or Microsoft Exchange. I want the contacts saved to my SD card so which one do I check?
Choose phone then it will save on your phone... The next time you make a contact backup, it will backup your contacts save on your phone to the sd card... I'm haven't seen an option tosave each contact to sd... I might be wrong on that...

Save to phone.
A nice option is to sync your contacts to your Google Mail account and then you always have them, and they are backed up. It is a great solution.

[Q] Weird problem - contacts keep multiplying

Dad had a weird problem with his Samsung Galaxy - all the contacts duplicated numerous times so that sometimes there were 15-20 of each and it didn't matter if they were stored on the Sim card or in the phone.
Carphone Warehouse told him it was faulty and caused by water damage even though it had never got wet and everything else works fine, so he bought a HTC Sensation XL put the sim card in and then the exact same thing happened, so he sent that phone back and got a Samsung Galaxy Nexus which he's had a week, and guess what? it's happened again
All the contacts have been deleted off the sim card so its blank and Dad only entered 6 or 7 contact details into the phone, then today all of a sudden there are multiple copies of some of the contacts - any ideas what the cause is or for a cure? Dad is on Orange pay monthly and has already had a replacement sim card in case the first was faulty.
Cheers
Perhaps it could be synced Google Contacts?
Or any other kind of contact syncs?
Any kind of backup (Titanium Backup, MyBackup, etc?) that would restore the numbers?
Did he/you install any apps before this happening? Any contact/phone/sms/dialer apps perhaps?
No he hasn't synced with Google Contacts apart from when its forced on the Nexus, but he has no contacts to sync anyway as he dosen't use a computer, his only contacts are what he's manually entered. He hasn't downloaded any apps at all, and uses the phone as it come out the box - he only has it cause he likes the big touchscreen and he can see it ok, he dosen't use any features apart from calls, texts, email and the camera.
Hmm, sounds very weird indeed.
You said you tried both getting a replacement SIM card and a brand new phone, but not at the same time?
I would suggest doing a factory reset and a SIM card wipe (or even a replacement if easily possible) at the same time, and then try and enter 1 NEW phonenumber (not one that's been in the phone/SIM card before) and leave it for the amount of time that it took before it began multiplying the numbers before, to see if it does it again.
If it doesn't, try and enter some of the old numbers into the phone, and so on.
If it does multiply, then I don't know what's wrong.

Contacts you manually enter are automatically set to sync with Google contacts. What I think is happening is you keep resetting the phone and he enters in the contacts before all the Google contacts from the previous times are being restored therefore all the multiples are being synced together. So let the phone sit after a restore. The multiples should show up after a little bit. Go through and delete the duplicates and see if they come back.

Cheers I think you may have solved the problem
I logged into Dads google account online and found his contacts and there were 529 with loads of duplicates (40 or 50 of some), so I deleted the lot, turned off autobackup to google and sync on his phone and did a factory reset - he now has no contacts on the sim card, in the phone or stored with google so hopefully when he re-enters them they won't duplicate, I'll give it a few days then see what happens if I let it back-up and sync, but I've a feeling its sorted it.

[Q] Cannot copy SIM contacts to phone or sync with Gmaiol

Hi all -
My mom just inherited an AT&T Samsung Galaxy II (rooted, OS ICS 4.0.3, Build IML74K.117) and I am trying to move her contact from her SIM to her phone or, even better sync with her Gmail account.
From the Contacts app, I'm opening the menu and selecting SIM Management, then choosing Copy Contacts From SIM and selecting the option of the Gmail account (I've also tried selecting the Phone option as well). Instead of going to the screen where I can choose the contacts to copy, the phone just goes back to the SIM Management screen. (I took a screenshot of it but it's been 8 minutes and the text is still in Send mode on her phone.)
Any ideas on what is preventing me from being able to move the contacts? My next move is to take it back to stock and see if that doesn't help but that's really a last resort and something I'm trying to avoid.
Thanks in advance!
Lauren
Can you see the contacts when you log into her Gmail account on a computer?

Hi, thanks for responding...
No, because she is coming from a stone-age phone and has never had anything linked to her Gmail account before, which is also new. So in this case, I'm attempting to transfer the SIM contacts to her phone/Gmail account in order to A) get them on the phone in a more unified manner and B) sync with Gmail so that she now has an online backup of her contacts. She's coming from a Motorola Razr circa 2005. For real.
I couldn't say for sure, but the problem could be that the format in which the Razr stored the contacts is not being read by the SGS2 which is kicking you back out of the menu.
This is probably an old thread but no Gmail sync along with cannot send mms, indicate that you probably have no internet access.
Make sure you do have first, either wifi or mobil data turn on

Nope, the format is universal and can be read by pretty much any phone.

[Q] $50.00 via PayPal to the first to solve my problem

I really screwed up this time... Normally I'm pretty good with backing up and preventing this kinda stuff but this one slipped through my fingers. I did a factory reset of my Samsung S3 (US Cellular) and formatted it on my PC via USB. I assumed all my contacts had been saved through my gmail account, but apparently they were not.
#1. Is there any way I can possibly retrieve some of my lost contacts? One number in particular is extremely important.
#2. If they weren't being saved to my Gmail account (some did, some didn't), where did they save to?

Give a thank if i helped you.
I'm supposed to 'sync' every time I want a number to be saved? I've had this number in my phone for months and months.
If your contacts haven't been saved in GMail account then see if your Sim Card has them. When you save a contact, you can choose to save it in your phone's memory or Sim Card. To see if your Sik Card has your contacts saved, Go to Contacts, press Home button and tap Import and hen choose import from Sim Card.

Normally, and if you activated the sync, it should sync once you created the contact and you got an internet connection. If this did not happen, and you already formatted anything and don't have any nandroid backup or Titanium Backup of the contacts files, I fear there is no way to get those contacts not synced back.
Did you check the contacts in Gmail on web? The phone saves to Google account based on preferences settings.

Yes.
Check with your Service Provider, and demand a print of calls or sms messages sent from your number in a specific time frame, that way you'll 100% get the number. But this method is not free, they will charge you for it. Good luck.
