Hello all,
We are working on a new electronic circuit prototype using custom power supply and chip FTDI 312D (ref.: http://www.ftdichip.com/Support/Documents/DataSheets/ICs/DS_FT312D.pdf)
This chip makes UART communication possible and have the new circuit recognized as an Android Open Accessory.
Everything is working fine except one thing: charging current is limited to 500ma (due to Android Open Accessory status https://source.android.com/devices/accessories/protocol).
This is a huge problem for us as a tablet is continuously plugged into our device and need to charge at maximum rate.
We have looked at different topics without success:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/root-battery-charge-limit-t3557002
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpXfGnqXM7I
https://forums.androidcentral.com/o...ble-usb-fast-charging-now-jawz101-kernel.html
My co-workers can do Android development but we are out of idea on how to increase this charging current.
Does someone knows how to do this?
Is it a Kernel modification?
We use custom Chinese tablets, so we need to ask for Kernel/ROM information to our supplier but communication is not always easy...
Has anybody done this before?
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Francois

Anyone?
Hello!
I am having the same problem. I would like to use this FT312D chip with an Android mobile phone, but the 500mA charging is not enough. Even if I connect a 2A charger, the phone only draws 500 mA. Can you ask the phone from a running Anrdoid application to draw more current? Did you find any solution?
Thank you for your answer!
Hello Bakgab,
Yes we did but not a software one. I think USB is 100% hardware controlled.
If you use a device that is modern enough (BC1.2 compliant devices), you can use this chip TPS2540.
http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tps2540.pdf
For us, with Samsung tablet Tab 10.1 and Tab 10.5, it's working flawlessly.
I'll let you read about this. It's called CDP mode. Hope it helps .
Cheers,
Francois

is it true what i heard, that wizard supports usb hosting? what i understand it means, it would be pluging usb drive to wizard usb through some kind of usb mini adaptor and accessing this drive through wizard? is it true? any special cable required or just mini 2 mini usb?
Not true. Search the forum.
thanks hanmin i did, just wanted do make sure.
i got confused by the usb host drivers floating around...
so should i understand these ar ment for other then wizard wm5 devices, or is it generally not true?
Good if you can point out where you get to know about this.. usb host drivers.
As far as I know, it is not true for all current devices discussed in this forum. If it were to be true, I think I would have known it as it is a rather big 'feature'.
this url http://www.deje.gmxhome.de/software.html was mentioned by someone asking similar question in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=270117&highlight=usb+host+wizard
if you scroll down the page you will read
"This is a driver which enables you to use USB mass storage devices (HD, multimedia Reader, digital camera) with your USB host enabled PocketPC."
that's exactly what i'm unsure of, are there any usb host enabled PocketPCs?
in addition here's a place where i first read it's possible
http://pdaclub.pl/dl/file_view.php?f_cat=92&sortby=t&sort=asc&f_id=530
unfortunately it's in polish, so no use for you guys. It states that
"WM 2003 SE original built in drivers allow you to use most generic usb storage, digital cameras, and even usb keyboards..." this site doesn't give any details about authors homepage, but mentiones that its the same guy who did MPointer (usb mouse plugged to pda)
don't really know what to think about it... enlight me
Interesting... it seems to be working on some PDAs...
http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/adet.to?coid=-26489&poid=242764
Hmm.. you can try the suggestion here
http://pocketpcmag.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=13738
But, I still think the current units discussed in this entire forum can't do it.
Thats what i ment. there are rumors it could work... but until i'm sure, i think i'll pass... i'm a bit affraid to play with power. Wouldn't pluginn a HDD to a device the way i'm unsure of... would'nt it be dangerous for my wizard? i'm a bit worried, because i already lost one of these toys due to electricity... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=281932
Ok, did some seaches, and this thread is interesting
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=250344&highlight=
At the end of the last post, someone mentioned that all HTC devices has a 3.7v battery which would not able to generate a 5v required for any USB devices. This fact seems to be true enough, in a electrical point of view. Theoritically, it is possible to generate a higher DC voltage via a DC source, however, it would take up relatively large expensive real estate of the motherboard. So, unless HTC has a very good reason, requiring them to get a 5V from a 3.7V (eg for some fussy components), HTC shouldn't have any form of DC voltage doubler in the unit. So, consider the voltage wise, you are out of luck.

Yes that is true, but they are also saying that the processor of the wizard can act as an usb host. So maybe it should work with an external powersource, aka USB Power Injector.
...which leads us back to Zeno's drivers that require a USB power injector...
Hi. I recently bought this phone. The No.1. draw in purchasing it was the ability to use a full size usb keyboard with it - for writing emails, etc. (other android phones seem to suggest that this is available or about to become available - but I couldn't get a clear answer on this so I went with the TG01).
It works fine. However, a usb keyboard (rated 50mA) uses up the phone's battery in half an hour! Is there a discreet/compact powered usb hub that I can use to power the keyboard - and still allow the phone access to the keyboard?
My specific scenario means that I have no means to install any software on the pc that I am using (its a work thing).
Looking forward to any further insight that anyone can provide.

No, This is a major problem with TG01, You can use the port either to charge or to connect to USB Hub or Headphones..
In my opinion, you have the following alternatives:
1- Buy a high capacity battery.
2- Buy a bluetooth keyboad.
Hope this helps.

Hi wafeeq. Thanks for taking the time out to respond. Is there any other smartphone (or mini tablet) that will do this job with a usb keyboard?
I guess I can go for an extended life battery - I think there is one on the market that is 4x capacity - so thanks for that suggestion.

Having such battery from Mugen ( it is only company I know that makes 2400 and 3900 batteries for tg01 ) You will have bigger back cover ( You can even buy big cover itself - You will save a lot of money. Mugen has very expensive batteries ) so if You know proper person , You can create any junction in it ( maybe with addition of few electronic parts ) to .... charge battery from external charger ( or usb slot from PC or laptop ) in the same time when external battery will be connected to tg01 usb host.

I use PDAnet tons of times on my Droid 3, since I moved on to a better phone, I wanted to use it as well. Problem here is, My battery drains fast as hell, Normally I though the port isn't providing enough power to keep up with the draining but I used my desktop which has USB 3.0 and High power ports and still the same issue.
I already experience issues with this phone and planning to get a replacement but I'm just wondering if Anyone else has this issue and will it continue with my new ReZound?
our phone isn't a usb 3.0 device, so it can't take advantage of the extra power.
solution (level: Dealwithit)-- i found turning the screen off at least keeps power use down on the phone enough to keep it level, or gain at least a tiny bit of charge. I use wifi-tether like this, net is 0mA or ~+15mA.
solution (level: Awesome)-- make a hack usb driver for windows that just forces 1A down the pipe rather than waiting for the device to request it

You can shove all you want down the pipe, the phone won't use it unless it's tricked into AC charge mode.

I'll have to confirm, but my belief is the usb host is what dictates how much is ultimately sent... obviously it does this according to the specifications, so presumably the dumb connector just takes whatever it can get... I'd be surprised if a usb device would double check the current it's receiving from a host that has follows the spec... especially when the same port we know can take an AC charge. I have an external portable battery charger, that when it's max, it can deliver the full 1A, but as the external source drops in charge, it delivers less - so it doesn't maul it's own battery, when the external supply starts to deliver less, the phone reports USB charging mode. so I'm wondering if it just reports ac/usb based on how much mA it's getting through the port anyway.
Hi guys, I have a problem with my Asus Z380KL tablet. Im want to use this tablet as a head unit in my car and I need to use OTG cable to make it work, also I need to have charging in the same time. I also want to use AutoMate app to control tablet, especially auto on/off while charging/not charging.
And now is the problem, I can easily achieve working external devices (usb dac, FM transmitter and pendrive) with charging in the same time, problem is when I cut off the power from charger tablet still thinks that is charging, of course it cant be cause there is no power source but still I can see charging icon and in settings showing that is still charging. It stop doing that when I unplug micro usb plug from tablet but obviously I cant do it all the time cause tablet will be build in dashboard.
Now, with normal charger, without OTG cable its working perfectly, when I cut off power it stops charging in the same time, also I tried couple OTG cables and on every single one is the same thing.
Any ideas guys how I can fix that? Im not sure if thats software of hardware problem.
Also device is not rooted and it has ASUS oem software with Android 6.0.1.
Thanks guys for your answers and your time! Cheers

Really nobody knows what could be a problem?
Apologies in advance if this has already been asked and answered.
I'm interested in using my USB-powered DAC to send an optical audio signal into my digital signal processor in my Jeep. The obvious problem I face in doing this is HEAVY battery drain.
I used to run a 2nd generation Nexus 7 tablet as my head unit in a previous vehicle, which could power by USB DAC while charging with the use of a Y-cable. This doesn't seem to be the case with my S9+.
Do any of you know of a way that I can achieve this with the S9+?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Just thought of something...
I'm guessing I could use the DeX dock to charge while using the DeX's USB port to power the DAC. That SHOULD work. Alternatively, perhaps I could wirelessly charge the S9+ while powering the DAC via OTG. Either application (if they work) would only prolong battery life, as I imagine the drain would be greater than the charge.
Anyway, still wondering if there's a way to get an old-fashioned charge while using OTG with a Y-cable or similar (powered USB hub?).
Bump. Curious if anyone has had any luck with this. Thanks in advance!

i dont think youre going to have much, if any, luck on this man. USB type C is kinda weird like that. There isnt even a jig for type c like there was with micro. Im following this one too.
There are aftermarket devices available that provide you the capability of using a USB along with a charging port and a HDMI output. I have tried it myself using a mouse and charger while connected together with the phone..... You could give it a try. That should work and is inexpensive too. I bought one and still use it sometimes for my Dex needs.
