I am looking for a case that will protect from glass down drops. I currently have the neo hybrid case. I can set this face down and the screen wont touch the surface, but if it falls the right way, the screen will definitely break.
I am not sure if there are cases that will actually prevent this or not. This is my first curved glass phone, and maybe this is just the nature of the phone? Is this why there are glass screen protectors? Any cases anyone can recommended? I had the Spigen tough armor for me lg g5 which definitely protected glass down drops, but it does not appear the s8 version is the same way.
I have an otterbox defender, has raised edges in the top and bottom but not the sides. I don't think any case does. Trying to find a glass screen protector now that will fit without going under the plastic part of the case

I know there is already a thread about the thinnest cases with drop protection. But what I've noticed is that almost all of those cases do not have any lip to protect the screen. So if the Note lands on one of the 4 front corners, the glass will be taking shock and not the case.
So I'm interested in finding the thinnest case available that protects the screen. So far, some of the bumpers seem to provide screen protection and are very thin (like the Anymode bumper).
What other cases do you recommend?
SGP Ultra Capsule, yes it has lip around screen edge.

Hey there I figured this might be of some use to anybody wanting the ultimate "ruggedized" protection for their Note 3.
It is well-known that the added thickness of some tempered glass screen protectors will prevent some of the most rugged cases from being used (as is the case with Otterboxes apparently). So, should you be stuck with a cheap TPU case while having the best protection for your screen??! No!
The usual rule of thumb dictates that any case with hard plastic parts that snap together (front and back) will not work, alas if it covers too much of the phone's face. It cannot flex so it cannot clip closed. Futhermore, if it DOES close, it might put a lot of pressure on the phone or protector, as well as potentially make your protector lift. We don't want that.
There are, however, 2 rugged cases that you can use with glass protectors. I did the tests with a MIME USA Ghost glass (0.32mm thickness) so any protector of equal or inferior thickness will work.
1: Ballistic SG MAXX
2: Trident Case Kraken AMS
With Ballistic's case I'm pretty sure one would be able to fit one of the thicker protectors such as the regular Spigen (0.4mm), as you only have rubber corners going over the screen.
Hope this can help.
Sent from my SM900W8 Note 3 using xda-devs app. And my fingers.
Does a ruggedized case really give you that much extra protection or is it placebo effect? I've dropped my phone a bunch of times onto either my tile floor or garage asphalt/sidewalk and never had problems with screen or body damage- all without a "ballistic" type of case. In fact all I do is put a tempered glass protector on it and a bumper around the edges- because when you drop your device, it's usually those areas that are the vulnerable points.
Other than protecting the edges and front glass, why make a device thicker than it needs to be with a $50 case if the back cover itself is $5-$10 to replace?
I hate both, there's no other way to look at that, I like my phone as it is, but well scratches will come with time, that's a fact too, so I was wondering which to get. I mean if I go for a Tempered Screen Protector, could that save the display from shattering in case of an accidental drop? Or shall I be using a Protective Case? I know that the corners of a phone are the most important parts, that's where protection should be present, so am I wrong to guess that a tempered glass protector can't protect the corners? I am thinking from a phone drop point of view, not normal scratches, for normal scratches I think I don't need a tempered glass screen protector, a normal one shall do.
So what shall I aim for, a case or the other?
If it's a case then which one? I love the UAG cases for the protection it provides, but hate them for their industrial design, but I won't buy something which won't have a good amount of lip around the screen to protect it from drops and kinds. I need something simple and neat looking, low profile and lightweight and the material should be half rugged so that it won't slip out from my palms.
Thanks in advance.
Tempered glass will NOT save the screen from every drop. If it's face impact then yes most likely will save but if impact is on back of phone and no case or very slim case will Crack LCD it self. Wife's note had a super slim tpu case and LCD shattered but both glass were fine.
i always go with glass screen protector and thin tpu jelly type case. doesn't protect if like an otterbox but will be able to handle any of the minor mishaps i might have. i am very careful and treat my phones like gold so it hasn't failed me so far.
i realize there are plenty of things that setup will not protect your phone for but i can not stand to add bulk to any phone no matter how thin it starts out

Yep, you are right.
I have decided to get a Nillkin 9H tempered protector and a Spigen Neo Hybrid, I guess these will do more than fine for protection.

I don't like because the nilkin one gets fingerprints too easy.
Gonna look into others and change this one
Best one I've used so far is the xtremeguard spartan. Not as bad as others as far as smudge and prints. All though, they changed the design lately, and sold them, was hoping for them to send me the previous design.
I am considering picking up a OnePlus 5 since they have the student discount right now and am wondering, what is the recommended tempered glass screen protector and case to protect the phone.
I love Nillkin tempered glass screen protectors for the OnePlus One, Nexus 5, and Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, but it seems they really dropped the ball on the OnePlus 5. The screen protector doesn't even cover the whole screen! Then there's Orzly which covers the screen but the quality itself is not as great. So who does that leave then? What would you recommend?
I also don't know what case to choose. I was thinking of picking up the Nillkin Super Frosted Shield Matte case, but I wanna see what other alternatives XDA likes.
To be honest, the Nillkin is probably the best at the moment, it's got full face adhesion unlike a lot of the others which only have adhesive on the black borders, which means the main screen hovers slightly above the phone's screen which gives a rainbow effect when you use it. It's also compatible with pretty much every case because it's not pushing up against them like a lot of the others. The only thing about it is you can see dust around it as it doesn't reach the edges but this doesn't affect it's use and can be cleaned with a good wipe (I recommend these).
Spigen cases are nice but seem to be the worst for lifting the edges of any larger screen protector (including the official one).
The official screen protector from OnePlus is not compatible with the Otterbox case so remember that when you make your choice, both companies have stated this.
As for cases my personal favourite is the Spigen Neo Hybrid, I just love the way it looks.
I agree with @djsubterrain. Go for the Nillkin.
But if you want a tgsp which covers all of the screen, I recommend you this one : https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...-automatic-adsorption-tempered-glass-t3660494
This tgsp is full adhesive, not only on the black borders. It fits perfectly with the sandstone case from OnePlus.
If you go with glass screen protector, don't get any of the ones that go edge to edge, they all suffer from the same problems such as dust getting underneath and the rainbow effect. As the others mentioned, the Nillkin is your best bet for glass.
As for cases, Spigen always makes good high quality cases and they have a couple of models available, I just recently got the Ultra Hybrid Clear case. I know clear cases tend to turn yellowish with time, but I like to show off my Dbrand skins.
The trouble is that while the bottom and sides provides a nice grip, the top glass bevel edge protrudes over the side edge of the Spigen case.
Thus, unlike some other cases of my other phones, placing the phone face down (or even a mild drop from 1 inch height) causes the glass to touch hard surface.
Apart from full Otterbox, is there a rubber or silicone skin that would also provide a small lip OVER the glass face, not a complete 2nd screen protector or skin completely over the front glass ?
I have the Spigen Rugged Armor case. On the top and bottom of the phone, there is a lip so that if you lay the phone face down, it's being supported by those two lips. This is much like any case you'd find on a Galaxy S7 Edge.
I have the Spigen Neo Hybrid and the Liquid Crystal and both have a lip at the top and bottom that keeps the screen off the surface when you lay it screen down.
I have a Spigen Hybrid. Sides of the case allow me to use the phone's edges, but it has a lip at the top and bottom, that even with a glass protector on gives me enough clearance to place the phone on the table face down. And I do this all the time, as when you place the phone face down on a surface, the proximity sensor shuts down the screen until you lift the phone back up again.
I've always loved Spigen cases. But all of their V30 cases have reduced profiles on the front sides, I'm assuming due to the curved glass. Since the V30 doesn't have active edges (like the S8), I fail to see the benefit other than aesthetic. And of course there is less edge to help protect the screen in a fall. A lot of the V30 cases are designed this way, but not all of them. I'm using the Tech21 Evo Check, which has a raised lip all around the screen.
Spigen Rugged Armor case has lips to prevent screen from touching surfaces when placed face down. It is a really good case. Only drawback for me, which might be for cases in general for the V30, is the fact that any dust from your pocket will sit inside the lip at the bottom of the case.
This might just be mine but I've also found that there is a tiny slit at the bottom of the phone where dust and dirt can get into, its visible as well, makes the phone luck yucky at the bottom.
I'm at work now but will try and post a picture of what I mean later on.
