Well, I was at the mall yesterday and my friends ambushed me with several bottles of perfume, many sprays of which hit my G1, specifically the screen which was covered with a protector. I wiped it off immediately of course. When I got home, there was a small hole near the center in the protector, and it looks like the whole screen protector is flaking apart. Ive already ordered a new one, but why would this happen?
The only thing i can think of is the alcohol in her perfume found a weak spot in the protector?
Then it spread like cancer, i mean look at what alcohol does to a liver
got any pictures of it?
since ur a girl you should order the mirror screen protector

The base of most spray-type scents/perfumes is an organic solvent. Typically alcohol (of the 'rubbing' variety) but possibly something synthetic. I probably don't have to explain what happens when organic solvent comes into contact with weak plastic.

Bad perfume. Didn't you know that the G1 can sense one's you shouldn't buy? haha

is it bad that i actually need you to "have to explain what happens when organic solvent comes into contact with weak plastic"? other than it burns a hole, but more so why?

Strong solvents will dissolve plastic. The plastic becomes plasticized. A more rigorous explanation can be found in an organic chemistry textbook.

Best answer to any question EVER. And the square root of Tuesday is Abraham Lincoln.
Fallen from my table this morning, straight on the marble, approx 1 meter.
Everything works ok, no screen cracks.
Just a very minor scuff on a top right corner. Just polished a little bit with some tootpaste, now is barely visible.
Will go the hobby store tomorrow to buy some black finish paint, and should back like new
if the screen is ok then of course everything will work fine
if it landed on anyhwere other than the screen(for this phone, also the glass back side), the most youll get is a scratch,,, same for any phone

Au contraire mon frère. Have you seen Android Authority's Z1 drop test on YouTube? The Z1 uses the same DragonTrail glass as the Ultra, and even after three drops or so (on concrete), the glass didn't crack at all, but the screen stopped working.

My z1 have dropped a lot of times and in all direction, screen protector and case mate cover, it's like out of the box! I think is very durable, my SGS2 had a broken plastic with cover applied and used like a baby. Now i've bought z ultra , look well made but is very thin! Someone had problem with dropping even cover applied?
I too, like to live dangerously. Lol. Yea, even the thinnest TPU case makes this thing a little unwieldy. I use a skinomi skin on the front and back. I had the pieces around the edges but they only attracted hair and lint from my pocket and got stuck in the dock so i removed them. The Accidental damage plan from Sony is the only protection i've really got, so until i destroy this one and have it replaced i will likely not be using a case. I also notice i'm much more clumsy with a case than without.
I've bounced mine off concrete 3 times now, the last fall broke the corner on the ridged flip case.

Mine cracked while it was sat in its cradle in my car. No bangs, no crashes, just one minute fine, the next cracked.
It's with Sony now so i'm wondering what they will come back to me with...

WHY would we need to drop test a mobile phone? This is becoming a social norm to see such 'tests'. I have to ponder who needs to be informed that if they drop such an item the chances are its going to break. If we think about these 'drop tests' they are absolutely absurd!

Agreed. Drop tests are stupid since no drop is the same. It can probably survive a 5 meter drop just fine, but that's just pure luck and nothing else. Drop it again and it'll break.
So yeah, completely retarded.

I noticed there are very small creases between the plastic around the frame and the aluminum parts. It's quite easy to see a small layer of build up forms within. Does anyone have an idea to clean this properly, safely etc...?
Thanks :good:

I've also noticed this, and I can't really say that I've found a solution to it. I usually just clean it with a wet cloth (I won't expose it to running water since I tend to have some bad luck with these kind of stuff ) and then use a needle to pick the most annoying tiny stuff that'll get stuck in the "cracks".

You know what works really good and nobody thinks about it? A simple sheet of paper.
But hey, I wash it like twice a day and that's the best way to clean it.
I even used a brush (like the one you use to clean your nails) to clean the "cracks".

There are different levels of aluminium strength. Obviously they went the cheap route here and picked such soft aluminium as it can be clearly seen in the video.
Don't know about you ,but I treat my phones like a precious piece of China anyway.I have just come from a one M7 after 2 years where it never had a case or a SP on it,always kept in a leather pouch when not in use and it is still in immaculate condition.I'm not going to burn it with a lighter, scratch it with s pick{if I did I'd get a new screen put in anyway ) and its front pocket with nothing else in there.....

I am extremely upset now. Looks like Huawei really went with the cheapest possible aluminium they could find. And at least here in Europe the price is still premium. EUR690..
Why does Google always f*ck up some part with their phones..

Hi, I've got a bit of a weird one for everyone. I purchased an aluminum, screw together case for my 5x. I'm not sure of the exact brand listing but if you search "honor 5x Thor" on Amazon it will come right up. It's a really cool case and being made of aluminum it's really strong, though I did have to add some foam in the corners to improve the fit. My issue is that the case significantly impairs the phones signal strength for both WiFi and cellular, it's not even a full case it's more of a frame! Is there any way I can modify the phone's antenna wire or something and affix it to the inside of the case to essentially use the entire thing as an antenna receiver? I'm open to anything, I've already had the phone apart multiple times for screen repair as well as painting, so hit me with whatever you can come up with lol.
