I've read upon the DAMAGED SD CARD problem with android, but most of the phone becomes virtually unusable, mine says it's damaged but market works, and I can install apps to phone memory, even with APPS2SD enabled. If I try and copy my files to the computer, it stops halfway with 'perimeter incorrect', glad I did a backup like 1 week ago. Funny thing is, in recovery the SD card is fine, I can make backups, I even tried to repair SD Ext Partition, no luck.
Its probably Android thinking it's damaged without it really being so. Totally confused since I warning/error is on the ongoing notification. Also when I go into the SD card & phone storage shows information as unavailable and SD information widgets can't read it either. I don't mind formatting and copying everything over, but it kinda works, but android thinks it's corrupted or something. Very weird. Also I did nothing out of the ordinary, but with computers or machines random errors can occur. I had the partition in place for a 3 weeks now, installed MCR 3.1 couple of weeks ago and using it pretty much like this, but since the WIFI hanged (kept saying it's turning off but being stuck) I rebooted and the message came up.
Is it possible to fix it how it is? Or shall I just re-format and copy everything again. I'm just worried it may happen again.
I have two 8GB Sandisk MicroSD card killed by my HD2 (i think so). Anybody faces the same prob? The cards are totally dead now after using it in my HD2 for a few days...
No such experience.
Good to know the Bland and model.
You mean brand?
Try to format it on your pc...
I had the same Isue.. could not format it on xp pc only on windows 7 pc..
mos of the time if you let you put it in your card reader and its recognized.. you just have to let it scan for errors and let it fix them..
Sometimes my cardreader fails to detecet my card. I don't think this is related to my HD2, atleast I don't hope so.
Not had it...yet...on my sandisk 8GB MicroSD. This is the one straight out of a Nokia 5800. The 2GB one which cam with my HD2 went tits up after I tried to import a playlist from WMP onto it. Seems I'm not alone with this issue either...
For the first time I can report a problem with my HTC HD2.
I also seem to have a problem with my 8Gb Scandisk card. It seems either my telephone or my laptop screwed the card up.
I have standard stock last rom available in Holland manilla 2.5 Rom 1.66. No special things installed.
The card works almost 100% except when I go to the tap music. Then hell breaks loose. The phone looks for the music files. But cannot find them and then suddenly the phone cannot recognize the card anymore? I have to restart the phone before it can recognize the card again. This only happens when I go to Music.
But the damage is done anyway. Cause when I insert card in laptop or computer. I can see the files but according to the computer there empty (which is not the case). I cannot copy or cut while in card is inserted in the computer.
I accepted this problem cause I have a good working TomTom on it which someone else installed for me. If I format the card I cannot put it back.
Try to format your card, I did this from my laptop (if it can reorganize it) and NOT chose FAST. Becouse if there is a problem with the card it will simply skip it. This is also a golden rule when you install new OS on a old or well used laptop.
Copy the tomtom folders to a folder on your PC before formatting, then copy back...done
I have a 8GB Sandisk card, I've had it on 3 plones now, using it for about 3 years, still works like a charm.
To the OP, maybe you got fake ones, Sandisk is the most counterfeit memory card brand, if you got them on ebay or so and not in a respectable street shop they might be fakes, for which that kind of failures are typical.

I have this problem, and I went back to HTC. I got a new phone replacement and everything is fine thereafter. =)
I had a problem with 3 different Kingston 8GB cards.
Statred working fine, but after writing more then 2GB to them, they suddenly died.
I tried all of them in the phone and in a card reader, and they acted the same way.
As a final test - I used a SanDisk card, and it works just fine from the time I got it.
So - maybe, you just have defective cards ?
Did you try formatting the cards in the phone and not in the PC ?
I have the same problem. If i put the files on my sd card from my pc there seem to be no problem. After I check these files on my phone, they are damaged or the folder is empty. So.. anyone has suggestions what to do?
Same experience here.
8Gb was working fine the first two days (the card that was included with my HD2)
Then, for no reason got a pop-up (invalid card type, do you want to format?)
At forst I said "no" and tried with my computer... None of the 6 software I used could save my card. Was definatly dead.
Put a second one in (1Gb, just to make sure), it's been a week, and I already get errors when I write. It's like the micro SD is on read only (though ther's no switch to set it back to "write mode")
One of the many (many many many) bugs of my HD2
i had the same problem. the 8gb SanDisk microsd card that originally comes with my htc hd 2 is now useless. lost a lot of pics, cab & songs. it can't even be read by card reader on my laptop. is this some kind of bug?? now im using another 8gb card & hope it wont happen again. im glad though that im not the only one having the problem
And i thought i was the only one. My 8GB only lasted for 1 day before it went died. Had to get a replacement from Service Center. The staff seem to handle it in a very fast manner (guess i am not the only one to get the SD card replaced recently!!)
My guess is i did a hard reset on the phone with the SD card in it. Anyone else did the same thing?
My card has been corrupted twice no the HD2 leading to:
1) Very poor performance
2) Very warm phone
3) Very fast draining battery
I believe it was due to the power saving features enabled to do with the microsd as someone else mentioned on this forum.
its a manufactures defect. something should be done. lots of users are getting this problem now, including me
maybe i know the answer..
sorry for my bad english..
I've the same problem. But searching from all forums, finally i get the answer. just find n download EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard Proffessional 4.3.6 (for 5 MB). Insert the mmc in card reader, use this software to recovery all the missing file (choose Complete Recovery Option). After recovery process done, use software LLFTool (for 600kb, just doing some browsing at google) to Low Level Format the mmc (this LLFTool can recognize the mmc). After all done, Windows can recognize again the mmc at windows explorer. Just right click and choose quick format (format FAT32). Done, you can use the mmc like the new one

thanks for your help. i tried your solution but it doesn't work. neither the EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard Professional nor LLFTool detect the memory card. i think there's nothing to be done for the card. just hope htc will sort that out
I have also recently had an issue with my 8gb Sandisk Micro SD card.
It has been working fine for a while now, then yesterday when I went to pick up my phone, I noticed my S2U2 unlock screen was black instead of having my usual wallpaper there. My HD2 had just suddenly decided it can't recognise the card anymore and tells me I need to format it for it to be readable.
I pressed 'no' and tried to read the card on several computers as I wanted to transfer all data off before formatting it, but it would not read on any of them, nor would it work in my old N95.
I don't understand why this has happened, it has been working fine no probs, had about 3gb left on it still and have not recently installed anything on it - very annoyed as I have lost lots of recent photos of my 6month old boy which I cant get back now.
Have had to order a new card and hope this doesn't happen again, but not a happy bunny
So when I joined my phone to the corporate network, it insisted on (amongst other things), encrypting the SD card. After some annoyance with that, pins etc, I decided to revert back. I successfully removed the accounts etc and unchecked the encrypted SD card option.
However, when I did so, it said something about only applying going forward and I still keep getting asked for the pin to decrypt the SD card. So it seems that stuff is still decrypted on there? I have done some searching but have had little luck finding any definitive answers, most seem to be related to problems with people losing whatever key to decrypt items which is obviously not the case here since once I enter the pin, I can access items with no problem
So what's the deal? Do I have to save everything off and reformat the SD card to get back to normal? Seems kind-of wonky to me but that's Android, I guess.
Oh, I have tried reencrypting and unencrypting the SD card again and the Android version is 4.1.2 if that's any help.
[Solved]
Not sure how to mark this solved. Maybe a mod can do it.
So I ran into some issues with the phone and managed to back up my data, completely reformatted the card and copied all the files back to the SD card.
*Still* I would get the "encryption password" popup. Nothing was encrypted, I could view all the files if I used a card reader. Yet when I plugged it back in, I either had to enter the string or couldn't see the files at all (even though they were clearly unencrypted).
The culprit?
/.sds.bin
I deleted that and everything is fine again. I guess it hung around when I disabled the encryption and was causing my misery. I hope this can help someone else who might be having the same problem
Funnily enough, now that I know what I am looking for, I found the exact solution to my problem here.
https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/777978?start=0&tstart=0
In fact, there is a hidden and very magic file sitting on the card named ".sds.bin" which is the flag to Android that the data on the card (may) be encrypted. If you remove this file (easiest on Linux or OSX) and then put the card back into your phone, you will be back in business. It seems as if someone at the Google forgot to remove this file when I told it to decrypt my phone earlier this year.

Oh well, que sera sera.
So i have been having this problem for a few months now, and its driving me crazy.. I've read every thread on XDA about sdcards, but nothing seems to apply here
When I reboot, my phone launches External2Internal so my 32GB SD can be used as my internal drive, and I've used it fine for a very long time.. but recently the sd card just disappears after some period of time. it seems to happen whenever my phone goes to sleep or the screen goes off and is locked, i suppose
after I reboot the phone it works fine again..
I quite think its from a malicious program.. but I cant be sure
recently, I installed a bunch of sd card tools to rescan, remount, test etc.. and I also installed an External2Internal update... and after all that, the sdcard contents appear to have been deleted, even after multiple reboots, when viewed with ES File Explorer.. However all the contents appear in good condition when viewed with Total Commander.. .
and since all that tinkering, because the sd card seems on some level to be deleted, programs like avast are getting corrupted errors on their virus scans, such as "invalid context during scan".. an error it doesnt get when the sdcard is unmounted completely, but only now that it mounts as appearing mostly empty to es file explorer and probably most other programs.
so it seems like one of the USB tools or the External2Internal update has done something malicious to my card... or maybe it was a last ditch effort by some dorks malicious code from a program i deleted in trying to get this all sorted out
anyone else having this problem or know how it can be fixed?
and I prefer to try and find out what is causing the problem and fix that problem, rather than just reformatting the card or buying a new card, since i'm sure it will just happen again someday
thanks

This happens to me as well, the only difference is that I don't use External2Internal but the jellybean option "default write disk: SD card"
Phone hangs while booting up at logo screen, after the animation
Service centre guys say that software needs to be reloaded or reinstalled(I don’t remember what), but it will wipe off my 1.5gb of data on internal memory.
I am able to access recovery mode normally, phone display during charging is like normal, the problem starts after (trying to) switch it on.
I wasn’t trying to root it or anything, the phone was simply switched off for about a week or so. There is a small chance that some apps were open when I shut it down. Other reasons I can think of for the phone to behave in such an abnormal manner-
1 I think I had a virus on the phone. Avast antivirus would behave quite weirdly, and it would interrupt music playback. (I downloaded it from 1mobile store, not playstore)
2 I had very low internal memory-I had over 150 apps of various sizes installed, and I often would get “low internal memory” warnings. My sd card was also almost full.
I don’t mind rooting it as long as gives me my data, and preferably a method to un-root if it isn’t too tough.
Could I use “Apply update from sd card” to use my external sd card to root my phone after downloading software on it?
Could I use some kind of programme through a Usb cable from a computer?
Do you think I should do a factory reset, then use a factory reset data recovery software? Will it increase the chances of my phone getting bricked ?
(Are you aware of)any other way of accessing data from a phone switched off?
Thanks !
