I feel you, when I got the nexus 6p a year back I felt out if the game.
I'm on mobile right now (so it's a bit harder to check but I wonder if we have a sailfishOS or Ubuntu , KDE (or plasma mobile they are calling it)

Sailfish OS seems a step in the wrong direction to me. After a little reading, it runs on top of CyanogenMod (I don't mean Lineage), for ported devices. I will look into KDE (Plasma Mobile) later today, need to go to work now...

What we miss is a truly unique rom.
All of them differ just in de amount of features they have. What would be awesome would be a rom that not only is different, but also looks different.

Yes most of those ROM ports run off cm cause of its compatibility with so many devices, that doesn't make it a step in the wrong direction though as it's a completely different OS with repos required from cm that can probably be replaced with their updated lineage fork. Even if not I guarantee people would still use it if it was 7.0 as it's totally new os for people to play with

CM12 is latest "stable", some folks seem to be kinda working on CM13, but it's still using a lot of CM12 stuff (looking at Github, anyway). Again, this is just for porting to "New" devices. It's been a few months since any repos were updated...
From what I gathered on the KDE site, you need to run MutliROM and get Ubuntu Touch working. Then you can try to port Plasma Mobile, kinda like using the KDE Desktop on your Ubuntu install with a PC. I haven't even looked at Ubuntu Touch yet, lol.
I'll keep doing research, anyone that wants to chip in, feel free :good:
Well I was working on a project long time ago, was not for this device, it was a port for the "Download Booster", when it was cool, and then I failed to do so.
If you can port it to a rom that would be great IMO

As stated, I'll keep researching, right now, I'm really enjoying ScrewdAOSP ROM on my 6P
Must be faster.
The "quick send to" feature doesn't work well. I would like to quit Twitter from there and telegram etc don't show the chats towards you send more files, just the last ones that received messages.
Configuration tool of RR is a must have. No ROM acceptable without that.

You don't really need to port Ubuntu Touch per se to get a Plasma Mobile port working. Just getting an Ubuntu 16.04 rootfs working should suffice for a base to build on. Additionally, porting Halium components should be enough to get the ball rolling.
I was working on a port of PM with someone else a couple of months ago until Halium started and more stuff started piling up for me. If you want to have some of the files we worked on, PM me.
EDIT: I have a thread about porting non-Android OSes to the Nexus 6P if it piques your interest.

If I remember correct the HD2 is develivered with Windows Mobile. Thats why it can be used with.
If you have the sources of Windows Mobile you can develop for our phone. But Windows Mobile is not free so you have to buy the development kit (expensive). Maybe you also will have the problem to get all the necessary driver for our phone to get everything working.
All other free OS could be ported (if you are able to do).
I think porting boot2gecko (firefox os) to our phone has the best chance, because lot of things from android can be used.
But don't think its just about downloading and compiling.

I've just spent 15 minutes or so looking at Firefox Os. Most of the stuff is forked from android, so there is a possibility it may work.
The Firefox OS team have already forked the stuff for the Nexus 7 tablet, I'm going to try and build it. If it works, well who knows what I'll try next
EDIT: after making and fixing a few build errors, it's surprisingly easy to get Firefox OS to build.
I'll leave it running overnight, hopefully I'll end up with something flashable tomorrow...

If there will be a way for android apps to go on b2g, "goodbye, android! Damn you qualcomm:| thank you mozzila!"
Edit: since the apps are html5, sinner or later a web emulator will appear, which could be ported to b2g without CPU emulation, or maybe run as wine does
Crap I am way to excited, I just want a ROM with battery (CM7-official based ROMs lately have tons of random wakelocks) and working HQ YouTube (and since this is html5 based, I am 100% sure the ICS/JB version of web YouTube will work)
But no status bar toggles = no more b2g (one very reason android is better than iOS)

If I can get the build to finish I'll consider it.
Some of the sources need to be replaced with CM9 sources to get it to work. What's also surprising is that it really is under active development, you can repo sync, then do another sync in 30 minutes and there will be updates...

Yea it doesn't even deserve alpha stage, but it is really eye candy, really really fast (but I think multitasking is iOS-like)
Scrolling tho is worse than donut in avd (and that is on GS2), needs imorovements
Why am I this excited? Because it doesn't run java VM!! I love java as programming language, but the concept of running every app in a VM (I agree for desktop apps made for all platforms, but not for mobile devices)
Am I the only one that would watch your (adfad) PC screen all time while building? This is how much I wanna try it
Oh, and gecko (at least last time I tried) is the slowest rendering I ever had on my phone, but I really wanna see how the concept of gecko-rendered apps works out
P.S.: firefox 16 will have armv6 support for stable
PS2: sorry for so many "I am excited" posts from me, but firefox os is as eye-candy as iOS, while keeping the awesomeness of android (if it is open-source, hopefully root features will be available)

Edit: installed latest nightly for amrv6, and I can confirm it is a bit faster than stock, but a lot laggier, so the lag in b2g is probably caused by gecko

That link i posted at the beginning of this post shows the nexus 10 is the tablet they have pictures of on. The website wasnt very clear if there was anything out yet or not. Also would android apps work with ubuntu? Just a couple questions sorry for hijacking the thread but thought it would fit here. Anybody else interested in it and have more info? if there is then ill make a new thread in general for discussion.

OK thanks that was really helpful. I figured android apps wouldn't work after reading more about it. Anyways the interface looks amazing in the video and they said it is really easy for developers to get their apps working on Ubuntu as well so once the final build is released im going to install it for sure. It would be awesome if we could dual boot it once its ready. My xperia play phone has a kernel for it that can multiboot GB,ICS, and jellybean thanks to cosmicdan. It'd be awesome if we could get that working on the nexus 10. I think I'll make a discussion thread so I don't hijack this thread and spam it, but first I'll search to make sure there already isn't one

I am currently in the process of building a Note 3 Rom of Ubuntu Touch. I have the experience with Ubuntu and Linux Development to do this, but I would like non-monetary support, like volunteers to find bugs. I'm using a rom based off of stock, minus KNOX (here) so it should work fine.... but that's never a guarantee. I will be testing this ROM myself, but I want to find every bug possible.
If any developers would like to get some addons in here, pm me. I would like to make this as useful as possible.
When CM11 100% functional source code is released, I will rebuild this off of it. I do want to include the best I can into this.
This will be based off of MJE, so, if there could be a person or two to hold back from updating, and trying this out, I would owe you sooo many cookies. I mean, MOUNTAINS of cookies. This voucher is redeemable, alternatively, for a lake of Caramel or an Ice Cream Storm.

well, unfortunately, I can't build it yet, unless you don't mind not having root. I know where to download the stock source code, but I found out that root access would not be a given, even with as little Ubuntu takes from Android. Not to mention, it's a lot easier with the CyanogenMod source.
I will make sure to get all the extended basics. Notepad++, Terminal, basic utilities, media utilities, a file manager, and others. I'll put an app of my own for feedback purposes. Ubuntu Touch is supposed to have the Play Store, so, if I miss something you want, no problem.
I think, when I have my first completely stable build, I'll move on to building a developer's build, including support for programming environments. Imagine being able to build an app on your phone, without a computer. A bluetooth keyboard would be necessary, but I think many would be interested.
If anyone can build an app, I have an idea for the way the interface designer would work. PM me.

Thank you for asking. That sparked the thought on how to re-package this for distribution. Before, I was going to have everyone adb it into their phone, as per the documentation that exists for Ubuntu Touch. However, it would be easy to just zip it all, then transfer and install. To adb it is to just make sure it's clean, but I can make sure that it happens clean via certain adjustments.
I'll test out even though it doesn't have root. Nice to know I can use play store. Even with cyanogenmod code there is no root? Cant wait to test

I'll go ahead and start building it then. I was thinking that there would be not-so-much interest in a non-rooted version. As far as using the CM code, that would give root and the most ease of building. Using Stock gives a guaranteed driver support, however, I am not too sure if KNOX is integrated into the parts that Ubuntu would take from the code. I'll have to research it a bit. I won't bother if KNOX will be pulled in too.

No need, and it wouldn't work anyways. All CM11 source is currently not 100% stable, therefore, I don't know if it will work properly with Ubuntu. I'm grabbing the source directly from Samsung.

We can build applications with AIDE, but it is pay-ware with a disabled free version. I'm anxiously waiting for someone to build an equivalent freeware application.
There has been a bluetooth virtual keyboard out for a few years.
This won't require a developer's phone will it?

No, this will not require a developer's phone. Just the knowledge to install a custom rom. And as far as AIDE, I will ask them if they would do a promotional by including the key in this rom. I will offer them the idea-work for a pet-project that I abandoned a year or so ago. It might appeal to them.
As far as switching between Android and Ubuntu, that was for the older versions of Ubuntu Touch. Originally, Ubuntu Bootstrapped on top of Android, but that was battery inefficient. Now, it's built on top of of the Android core.
Upon looking further into the differences between the first version and the current, I have sadly discovered that Android apps are no longer supported. I could use the first version, as it is still available, but that would make the build far larger than it has to be. After the completion of this project, I will ask someone to continue upgrading, while I move on to building Ubuntu apps for as many Android apps as I can. However, there are a great deal of Ubuntu apps already made.

Ubuntu Touch Dying???
I had checked the Ubuntu Touch repo a while ago, but it seems to not be much larger..... we need to bring it back. Maybe we could turn Ubuntu into a Powerhouse Platform, by creating Ubuntu apps that utilize the power of the Note 3.
N3 has the power to run a sql server and apache, if it's only for a small network. Imagine, being able to make a site for your your friends only, and being able to manage it like a full server, however, you'd have no fees (unless you want a domain, but even then, there are free domains).
Going on this idea, if a sql db is on a mobile device, there is less risk and more ability to control access (ie. turn on airplane mode to disable it)
The N3 could be used as a file distribution spot. You could have an automatic broadcasting of a particular file. All newer galaxy phones could just access it from the wifi direct menu. What an easier way to hand out flyers?
We need to think of ways to utilize the power of the N3 and the simplicity of the Ubuntu Touch SDK. A dump trucks can carry a lot of feathers.
I, personally, dislike using C++ for app development (Thank GOD for Java), but I will do it for this project.
I need more ideas, but please take time to make a list, instead of 1/post

As far as switching between Android and Ubuntu, that was for the older versions of Ubuntu Touch. Originally, Ubuntu Bootstrapped on top of Android, but that was battery inefficient. Now, it's built on top of of the Android core.
Upon looking further into the differences between the first version and the current, I have sadly discovered that Android apps are no longer supported. I could use the first version, as it is still available, but that would make the build far larger than it has to be. After the completion of this project, I will ask someone to continue upgrading, while I move on to building Ubuntu apps for as many Android apps as I can. However, there are a great deal of Ubuntu apps already made.

Eerrrmm... I'm a 100% sure that Ubuntu touch uses the cm kernel. That's why you need a Developer edition device. It's the only one that can flash kernels So if the following statement is true. Then this can't run the 99% of the Verizon note 3s correct?

Awesome. Im ready to start flashing, im gonna start reading up on my ubuntu touch and check it out. Also does abyone knkw if im in ubuntu touch and I hook up hdmi out to my tv does it go into desktop mode? Or is that onky with a dock

I read (on Android Central, I think) that Ubuntu Touch development was being suspended for all devices, except Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 (original). Maybe that's why......
I just ordered the new ubuntu phone that's getting sent out in march.
Just wondering if there will be a device listing added..

I bought BQ phone and cant wait to get it. What I really like about Ubuntu Touch are live updates like on the desktop with bugfixes and new features. No more waiting for months until the manufacturer issues new Android firmware for my phone. Not only bugfixes but whole new versions of the OS will come fast. And porting guide looks promising, doesnt seem too difficult to port Ubuntu Touch though I am not a developer so I cannot know that for sure.

Porting guide is alright but it doesn't always get all features to work , e.g I did a s4 i9505 port but cell didn't work.

I wonder if the Android driver version (Jellybean/KitKat etc) makes any difference on whether something works or not. Or maybe some types of drivers dont play along well depending on the manufacturer, I know that some people did a lot of tinkering with drivers to make newer Androids work on older phones, likely some tweaks are necessary to make some drivers work on Ubuntu. I still hope that we see successful ports here on xda.

Think the tweaking you refer to was due to new versions required new kernel

Folks I am going to try N push as many roms out for this device as I can, only because we didn't have a lot of optional roms with kk, but now that I have learned more I will do the best I can. If anyone here wishes to take over one or some of my threads and maintain the device just let me know Please? I'm in NO way trying to push anyone out, I just want there to be options for you! My Candy5 rom is mine tho, SlimLP as well, I'm not willing to let them go just yet. Also as soon as PacRom has released their nightlies I will release my Pac build for this device! Again, if you wish to build, I will turn my thread over to you because I can't maintain every thread/rom as often as I'd like. This is just a heads up so everyone knows what to look forward to.

I would love to help you maintain these roms, I''ve always wanted to build/maintain a rom because it seems so interesting. But sadly my laptop doesnt support VM virtualbox

Know how you feel man. I need 64 bit computing to build and only one of my dinosaurs runs 64 bit but its sadly lacking in the memory to complete the builds. I came thiiiiiiis close to my test build completing. So I just flash other people's efforts.

Well if ever either of you, or both, become ready to compile I'd be happy to help you get started. I'll also give away some of my threads. When that time comes just hit me up with a message here or on Hangouts.
My builds are going to be less supported as I do not have the time to maintain so many roms for one device. I'll really help someone get started if they wish but please don't expect updates from all of the roms I have here. You can do this!

I'd like to help with this but as my PC is slightly antiquated my last attempt at a build failed. I may try a dual boot with ubunu or bbqlinux so I can max out my limited resources for one more try. Can't say when yet...life keeps getting in the way.

I definitely understand about life getting in the way. I have a house full of kids and my android addiction gets in the way at times. Let me know when/if you try to build again and I'll for sure give a hand working out errors and whatnot.
Step one completed. Now have the old Vista dual booting with BBQ Linux. Removed virtualbox client packages as it is installed properly and set it up with a beautiful grub splash. Even defaults to windoz for my wife.

Step two done. Built cm10.1 as a test and it is flashed on my phone and working.
BBQLinux apparently works out of box as was said on their thread. First attempt at build stalled out after about 10 minutes complaining of a missing shared object library. Version in folder was one off from the one being asked for. Renamed a symlink to match version number and build completed in about 2 or 3 hours. (64 bit Vista/BBQLinux dual boot with 4GB actual ram and a 12GB swap file)
