GT-N8000 update - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all
I friend of mine donated his Galaxy Tab 10.1 to my son.
Now I need to update to the latest possible firmware. Not even YouTube kids works on the old firmware.
When trying to do OTA upgrade it mentions no upgrade available. I chatted to Samsung support and they suggest using Kies. Sadly this tablet isn't compatible with Kies 3 and I can't seem to locate older versions.
Can anyone assist or guide me in the correct direction
With thanks

If the tablet says that there's no new firmware, then there's no new firmware available.
You could root it, install a custom recovery and flash the latest Android 7.1.1 ROM from decatf if you want.
However, this tablet is getting pretty old by now and youtube just doesn't run super smooth without overclocking (and even then there are no guarantees). If you want my honest opinion, I suggest you look for a second hand Nexus 7 2013. It still runs smoothly today and has a very active developers community.

Yet Kies finds FW. Thanks for your input

Wait a minute.. You have a GT N8000, this forum is for the GT P7500 /7510. Normally the latest Android for your tablet is 4.4.2. If you want to root it you will want to look at the specific forum for your type of tablet.
And a factory reset can sometimes do wonders for the speed of your device, if you don't mind loosing everything on it.

[Q]flash "Normal" Android

I'm thinking of buying a tab but don't like that samsung has "branded" the OS now with touchwiz, is it possible to android, without samsung stuff, so as to get the updates ota when they're released? For example 3.2 is released but haven't made it to galaxy 10.1 yet?
Does one need to root the tablet to do this?
Are there any nice how-tos?
Buying a tablet or waiting for google to release their own depends on if this is possible.
Thanks for any help!

Yes you have to root to get 3.2 honeycomb. Right now some developers are developing vanilla 3.2 ROM for Gtab 10.1. And each time an update is released for honeycomb we have to wait for the developers to update their ROM, so that we can flash the ROM.
Another thing is that honey comb wont be seeing much updates as IceCream sandwich is just about to be released.
If you want to get updates directly from Google then you have to buy a Google Experience Device. but right now there is no pure google experience tablet (AFAIK).
I think I'm looking for the same thing, I want a 10.1 tab but without the Touchwiz mods..
But just to confirm that I understand you correctly, If I purchase one of these tablets it would be possible to de-brand it and remove the Samsung bloatware/Touchwiz stuff and thus run the basic stock Android by using one of the ROMS posted throughout the forums, which I'm assuming is limited to 3.1 as you say 3.2 is in development, not that version makes any difference to myself.

Yes. You can install any non-touchwiz ROM in the dev section(Blazer is the only one i guess) or use the 3.1 stock ROM

Android 4 to which mobiles?

Is there any site that i can find out to which models can i official and unofficial install the new android 4.0.3 or newest?
A lot of thanks.
clockworkmod.com and under rom manager it will show you all roms for your phone. if your unrooted google it
I would say this is the best site for that. Just find your phone and see if it has been developed for it. 4.0 can't run on everything without a bit of tweaking on a phone by phone basis. The developers on here do that for you.
It is hard to unlock any android mobile phone to install it a rom that is unofficial and if it is easy BEFORE i installed the new unofficial rom is there a way to make a COMPLETE BACKUP of the android phone so anytime i want i can make a COMPLETE RESTORE to factory defaults with official android version.
A LOT OF THANKS FOR ALL.
cyanogenmod.com
Device compatible with CM9 are Android 4.0.3 IceCreamSandwich
To which sites i can see the OFFICIAL android 4.0.3 supported mobiles phones?
The samsung galaxy s plus i9001 does it support it?
And if don't where is the way to install an unofficial android 4.0.3 for samsung galaxy s plus i9001 phone?
Not as such...
I haven't found any comprhensive listing of ICS ROMS + supported devices.
Your best bet is to start from your device and find which ROM's (if any) are out for it. Some devices may never get support, some already have it, some are in between.
Much as I love Cyanogenmod, I can't get a functional CM9 (that is, ICS by Cyanogen) that will work on my Nexus S 4G. But I did find a list of ROM's for Nexus S 4G and by elimination found one that works flawlessly.
Be careful, follow steps closely, and RTFM first!

[Q] the last working way of ROOTing

Hi,
I've been using Prime since the first delivireis in January and never wanted root it. But recently it seems that Prime is not so fats and smooth as could be and I expect that the performance will increase after flashing a custom ROM. I wanted to ask which is the last working version of ROOTing and installing recovery when I have official Android 4.1.1 (the last OTA). I found some tools (viper, sparky) but they look very old and don't know if they work on the new updates. The best would be soma one-click method
I also wanted your recommendation on which ROM is the best for daily usage. I wanted to try CM10 but noticed that it is not official port. I like customization a lot but not necessary on tablet so much. I also read that ASUS plans to release 4.2 update and I wanted to ask if there will be updates of ROMs for Prime... I ask because it seems that Prime is quite dead here (no wonder, of course).
Thank you!

No,you cant flash custom roms without root.
Rooting is pretty easy.Just search the forums and you will find one ! GL :good:
@Fyttikatta: here you find instruction and download for rooting. Before, flash the last firmware, also with Odin, and make a factory reset in recovery (to repair the camera item).
Yes, I'm familiar with rooting, but every ROM I have installed have not worked with Snapchat's record function as well as the camera requires rebooting like every 2nd time I open the app. It becomes quite frustrating, therefore I'm looking for a ROM with a "working" camera
If you want the hardware to work perfectly then you'll have to stick to either stock or stock based rom.

Well, if Samsung could get their sh|t together we wouldn't have had to root our phones.
The only time I've been able to send full length videos on Snapchat was with blekota's s5 rom ages ago. I'm on the latest archidroid right now and loving it, I mean the camera has crashed a couple of times and still video recording cuts out but I've learnt to live with it until I uninstall Snapchat which seems to only crash the camera for me

Root is irrelevant to custom rom, they all come rooted. If you want kitkat with native hardware support then buy a newer phone.

So basically what you are saying is that if you have a PC with Windows Vista, you should buy a new one to get Windows 7? At least with Samsung's flagship phones, the Galaxy S series, they should support for OS upgrades more than a year. Even the S4 have Lollipop, why shouln't the S3 have KK?
PC is totally different, no comparison could be made as Microsoft doesn't own or control the hardware. S3 is over three years old and doesn't have enough memory to run 4.4 stock, yes it could run it but Samsung decided not to bother writing a slimmer firmware.

That is still no excuse. KitKat was released only a year after the S3, and I have been running different versions of it on my S3 with better performance than with stock. Still they decided to give the S4 an overhaul with Lollipop two years after it's release.

Help with this awesome tablet

Greetings everyone
I have this awesome tablet for my young son who loves to watch YouTube kids
The current FW which is an OFW will not permit the DL of YouTube kids I think due to compatibility issues etc.
I ask anyone to advise on how to load a CFW or something to allow me to run YTK and other items. Obviously I would need android 5 or higher.
Where could I find step by step instructions to do this? I am not sure of the detailed ways so I am needing patience from you.
I would appreciate all the help, so will my son
Thank you
Have you tried rooting it? What model is your tablet - 10.1?

Try the 7.1.2 Nougat Rom
I prefer Nougat without gapps and overclock the CPU to 1400 MHz.
https://www.google.nl/amp/s/forum.x...elopment/rom-android-7-0-nougat-t3471350/amp/
Good luck
I have the 10.1 GT-P 7510 I had XDA root it for me through their 1 click root system because I didn't want to take the chance on messing anything up because you read so much online about people bricking devices trying to root them. I also have kind of the same question, I have an old version of Netflix on mine that runs perfect but would like to go to a newer version, and I would also like to install kodi or xbmc on this tablet so I can take it with me on trips and be able to watch movies. after extensive searching I was able to find out that supposedly kodi 14.2 helix will work on this tablet, but trying to find it is essentially impossible, and when you do find the file it always seems to be broken in some way and wont work, supposedly there is a program called SBMC which is a fork of kodi for this device, but can't find that one anywhere. so my question is this because I am so new to this rooting thing. My tablet is already rooted with Super SU and I would like to know where I could look to get instructions how to install the nougat 7.1 rom or even a different rom to be able to go to some newer apps at this point I have been a little timid about doing too much because at least Netflix is working, and the xda tech told me not to factory reset it update it and a few other things, and a few other things because then it won't be rooted. any help in this will be very much appreciated and please feel free to move this post if it is in the wrong area and I apologize it is my first time posting. I will say this though it was well worth the 40.00 to have xda root it for me because it can be a bigger process than people think depending on the device the guys are awesome.
Rick
I also have a 10.1 GT-P 7510(wifi) 32g. The P7500 and the P7510 are basically the same and use the same firmware. I've had mine rooted for a long time. I use Kingoroot because it's easily replaced with Supersu. As far as ROMs go I've had only difficulties. What I can tell you is that for myself this has been a little difficult up til possibly just recently. There are many ROMs available here at XDA, most of them were unstable. The 7.1 Nougat, https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-10-1/development/rom-android-7-0-nougat-t3471350, looks promising but I haven't got CWM recovery to flash the zip without giving me a "No File_Contexts warning. If I could get a tar.md5 ROM I would use Odin3 in a heartbeat. Version 1.85 is the one I use most and thats just to undo the softbricks, by flashing in the original firmware. If you live in the US its this, https://www.androidlegend.com/update-samsung-galaxy-tab-10-1-wi-fi-p7510-with-ics-4-0-4-uelpl/. Run that through Odin if you ever get stuck in bootloop crash the tab, pretty much anything but a hardbrick. The 8.0 Rom I'm waiting for the developers to complete.
