anyone tried the op3 crash guard bumper on the OP5? - OnePlus 5 Accessories

The sponsored post mentioned it should work, but curious if any the buttons will misaligned wrong and be constantly hit.
Just desperately need a case atm lol. The stuff I ordered from eBay are taking ages to ship and damn is this phone slippery.

Yes, I tried mine, it does work fine but the holes on the bottom are ever so slightly misaligned. The buttons on the side and the notification slider worked fine. There's a massive gap between the back and the camera so it's well protected as the 3/3T camera was more bulky then the 5's camera.
I'm in the same boat as you waiting for cases, I managed to get a clear case for the 5 which will do in the meantime, was quite cheap on Amazon UK.

Sorry, scrap that, just tried it again, the volume keys are slightly below the case's also, the power button is pretty much in the same place though. The USB port is exactly the same but the headphone port on the phone is slightly to the right of the hole.

do the slight positions impact accessibility for the volume rocker? Can you still squeeze in a headphone jack into the port?

you can't really use the vol down button and I wouldn't want to try forcing headphones in anyway, it'll probably damage the port or the headphones jack.

For anyone in the UK, the OP5 bumper case is up for pre-order on MobileFun:
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/rhinoshield-crashguard-oneplus-5-protective-bumper-case-black-p64392.htm

it should work, but other cases for example, the volume buttons are just slightly below the old oneplus 3/3t ones etc

A101IT Speaker Replacement

The Archos 101's speakers are overdriven, so many people are having speakers crap out, even after getting replacements. I replaced mine with higher wattage/sensitivity speakers, and now have no speaker failure, and much better sound quality and loudness. I used two Mouser.com Part # 253-CE221-RO.
I'm not going to bother with pictures, as it's quite simple:
1. Unscrew the Torx screws on back, 6 total. The two closest to the side buttons are longer, make sure you note this. A Torx 4 or 5 bit will be needed, though you could file a flatedge down in a pinch to make it work.
2. Slowly pry open the edges of the case with a plastic wedge. There are free ones included with lots of phone repair kits, or you can file something down in a pinch. Use a flatedge screwdriver if you don't care about scratching the case, but don't push it too far in if it's metal.
3. Once all the clips have popped, open the halves until you see the big flat cable, that's the screens connector. Disconnect it from the back of the screen. Slowly! It has adhesive behind it, let it slowly come apart so you don't rip the aluminum shield on the back of the screen.
4. The Power/Volume buttons will probably fall out, they are all attached together, just set it to the side. Lay the two sides open on a table. There are still 2 things connecting the halves to each other, but you don't need to remove them if you keep the halves close together.
5. Unsolder the old speakers and pry them out. There is a little strip of adhesive holding them in. If you can keep it in place, you can use it to affix the new speakers. Make sure you center the new ones in the hole, there will be a couple of millimeters space left over. Make sure the plastic cone of the speaker will not be touching any adhesive underneath it. If you make sure it's centered, you shouldn't have a problem. Use a couple dots of hot glue to firmly affix them in their holes. Don't overdo it, you don't want glue to seep under the speaker and touch the cones.
6. Reverse the takedown procedure to put everything back together, don't forget the Power/Volume button strip. Also, don't overtighten the screws, you will see a very slight depression on the front of the tablet where the screws are, if it's a noticeable depression, back the screws out a quarter turn.
7. Boot up and enjoy. Make sure you turn the volume down a bit before playing, these speakers are louder than the originals. At full blast it feels like it's going to vibrate the screen to pieces.
I also ripped off my micro usb port, so for anyone with very good soldering skills, or alot of solder braid(and balls), the part number for that is ZX62D-B-5P8. I had to use trace ribbon(Flexible Flat Cable) to remake the traces, as they were ripped off as well. Crack open an old CD-ROM or check the bottom of an old hard drive to find some with the correct pitch if needed.
I'm also adding front speakers on the right hand-hold, kind of like the A70(no room for one on the left on A101). Post a reply if you'd like a parts list and tutorial for that process.
Just finished the testing. I'm updating the OP with results and guide.
Thanks for posting the detailed instructions. Might have to give this a try, given that one of my speakers blew after a couple of weeks. Also intrigued by the front speaker....
How did you identify which speakers would be a suitable replacement?
Yes please, I'd love to have the part list and detailed tutorial for adding front speakers to the A101IT because I can go right down the street to Mouser Electronics because I live close to there and know where it is!
So how well do these new Kobitone Speakers from Mouser fit inside the A101IT; Is it a tight fit or loose one? Also, what is the difference in speaker size (if any difference) and are the stock A101IT speakers' shape circle like the Mouser ones or oval?
Thanks mate!

I've built alot of custom electronics, so I measured the old ones and used a bit of experience to guess the rest. There is a couple of millimeters of space left around the speaker, but it's super close, and the original speakers actually have an extra plastic case on them because they couldn't find cheap enough speakers that fit exactly. You won't find a closer match in size to the originals, and they have the best sound of any speaker in this size range.
spicy_puerto_rican: The stock speakers are round, with a large plastic collar to make them slightly larger. My replacements are a few mils smaller, but even the originals needed adhesive to hold them in, so the size difference really isn't an issue. As I said, they have the best sound quality and volume of anything in the size range.
With the loudness of the new speakers, I've decided not to bother putting front speakers in, but if you open your archos, you'll see there is so much space in the right hand-hold you could do almost anything in there. Feel free to experiment.
Thank you! My speakers went bad. I followed your instructions and the new speakers work great. It was difficult, but it would have been even harder without your instructions.

[Q] [VIEW] Bottom plastic piece badly fitted?

So I just got a View, and for the most part it seems to be a well-crafted device. But, when I press on the front side of the plastic piece on the bottom (right above the charging port), it makes like a cracking noise, like the plastic doesn't fit right. Does anyone else have this? I'm trying to decide whether it's major enough to try to send in for warranty/RMA, especially since I took the OTA to HC and now want to HTC unlock to flash back and do S-Off for some rom action, which I think would void the warranty :-/
Mine is very solid, no cracking at all.
just got mine today and it does have that cracking noise ..
Hmm okay....well so far is 50/50 lol so maybe its common. I noticed that the plastic piece on the bottom can be slid forward and lifted off the charge port, and the noise seems to be coming from the gap between the screen border and the plastic piece over the charge port. So, maybe I'll try putting something in the gap to see if it stops. I feel stupid doing a warranty claim for something so trivial.
no cracking here, but i got something i do not like.
the screen is not fitted correctly on the lower side of the device.
It is not in line with the rest of the metal part, in fact is aprox 1 mm above it.
If you look at it you may not see it but if you swype your finger you can feel the edge of the glass.
But otherwise it is well built device.
I do not think i am going to try to replace it(or maybe i will).
That's ok. I almost ripped my bottom off looking for the sd card slot.

Also afflicted with the click. Kind of annoying bit of cheapness/shodiness on an otherwise very solid device. Wondering if a silicone cover would help mask it...
I have something similar but it was on the top camera cover. Where it wraps around directly under the power button it didnt seal right, and there was a gap that irritated me. After trying to fix it with no luck I ended up sending it back to amazon and bought another. New one perfect.
After a pint or two at the pub, the lighted buttons wiggle and wave at me. Should I return the unit, or stop drinking so much?

BoxWave Colorsplash case review

First off, quick description of the case. It's a TPU (I think!) and hard case hybrid. Surrounding the phone is the TPU portion, which is sort of a sort of hard rubber which snaps over the phone securely, and the back is a hard plastic. I picked Black, so the TPU portion is black, the back hard plastic portion is clear.
I purchased the Boxwave to replace the Speck case I got at AT&T when I got my Note, and while the Speck case fit well and all of the buttons and holes lined up great, I didn't like how slick it is and how quickly was looking really scuffed up, plus it's IMPOSSIBLE to remove from the phone. So I decided to replace it and this BoxWave case like what I was wanting to have.
Now, back to the BoxWave case. The BoxWaves two microphone holes barely line up, the hole for both mics is large enough, but the microphone itself is right at the very edge of the hole. If the case slipped in the other direction I'm afraid it'd obscure the microphone. The top one as-is right now is obscured a little bit, the bottom isn't but not by much. The other annoyance is that the power button doesn't appear to be aligned correctly with the phone, as it's kind of mushy and hard to push, like it's hitting it from the side. The volume buttons seem okay, and the case is on right, even took it off and put it back on to make sure it was on right, it didn't improve.
I've also noticed that plugging in the charger is mushy, and turns out the case obscures the microUSB a bit too. Not enough to make it difficult to plug in, unplug on its own, or even need any "adjustment" to plug it in, but it's definitely in the way a bit.
The kickstand is pretty flimsy as well, time will tell how long it will last, as it's just two little nubs on the stand pushing against receptacles on the case, I can see if the phone got pushed against the stand it'd pop right out, but I mostly worry that it'll open etc while it's in my pocket. And the hinge sticks out of the back of the case, my wife has a SGS2 with a similar case by someone else and the back is flat on her phone.
It's much easier to get on/off the phone, and I like that the sides are textured. But otherwise not that great a case.
Pros
Really nice textured grip on side
Fits phone securely but not overly difficult to get in/out
Cons
Power button alignment is BAD, difficult to turn on
Both microphone holes aren't aligned well, mic hole is well to the edge of the case hole
Stand looks very flimsy
MicroUSB hole alignment is bad
Recommendation: Pass on this one, unless the alignment on the buttons and holes improves.
I bought this case for myself and my wife neither I if us has experienced any if the problems you mentioned with the holes being out of alignment. The kick had never opened in my pocket, and supports the phone well. The only complaint I have is the hinge sticking out of the back of the case, but that is a trade off for the super slim form factor. All in all, a terrific case for the price.

How about the power button, do you have to mash it a bit to make it work with the case on? My volume buttons are fine, they have a distinct firm press, just like without a case, and just like my Speck case did, but the Power button feels like it's hitting from an angle or something, mushy, annoying. I basically have to pinch the phone across the sides to turn it on one-handed, which always wind up changing the volume at the same time. Without a case, or with the Spec, I could just push the button in.
And the hinge sticking out annoys me more and more.. Can't really use the phone laying on the desk, it wobbles around.
Lots of pictures of it here, on BoxWave's website http://www.boxwave.com/at-t-samsung-galaxy-note-samsung-sgh-i717-cases-and-covers/colorsplash-at-t-samsung-galaxy-note-samsung-sgh-i717-case-with-stand/bwpdd/pkv-zvgp/
If wanted, I can take pictures of the microphone holes.. Not much to see, looks kind of like (. ) where the . is the microphone hole.
The power button is just fine. I think you may have received a defective case.

I use photo Bucket personally and you can link the pictures super easy that way.
I got a response from BoxWave yesterday, their response is:
The ColorSplash Case with Stand was designed to have indents for the power button and other features. This will require a stronger press in order to use these keys. We do this to protect the buttons and so they will not be easily pressed when traveling.

So sounds like it was designed this way. Maybe my case is out of some sort of tolerances but my power button requires a hard mash to operate in this case, so I'm working with them to return it and I'll be on the prowl again for another case... Don't think I'll bother with one with a kickstand, I haven't once used it, but the grippy sides of this case are very nice compared to my Speck, so I'll be looking for that.
My Boxwave (not the colorsplash, but another one from them) was the same way with the hard keys. I switched to a Hyperion case which has softer sides and lets you press the buttons easier. BUT - the opening for the micro USB is too small to let the OEM Samsung usb charger plug all the way in. I am going to have to widen it a little.

Thanks for that, because I was wondering about a different Boxwave, but it was going to be pretty low on the list..
They finally gave me an RMA, and made it clear that if I don't have the clear plastic baggy the case came in, that I'd pay a 15% restocking fee... Oh it just gets better and better..... I'll never buy another BoxWave product again.
I got a few alternative cases to try out, I'll have full reviews on 'em soon, but this $3 case feels, fits, and works MUCH better than the damn BoxWave.

fits pretty snug, kinda hard to get in..
all my buttons press in fine for me.
i also ordered the reg. one with no kick stand.. ill have to mess with that one again because one i first tried it on it seemed wayyyy off
the regular case with no kick stand fits good also.. have no problems with it.. the power button is a little mushy but ill get over it. its not that bad. i got the red case looks sexy on a white note.
update
i dropped my phone face down yesterday on concrete [my driveway]
i was pretty scared to pick it up, but when i did not a scratch or crack.. nothing
this case saved me right there, when it fell the edges of the case protected my screen from smashing on the ground
this case was well worth the 13 dollars.

I believe it is. Note that the back speaker holes are actually on the bottom. The battery would be on top of the speaker so the closest way out would be to the bottom. I am not terribly enthusiastic with ZL's new design. I wish they stopped trying to out-ugly the Otterbox and made the smallest possible cover as before.

I have not seen the actual G3 battery, but I've seen their batteries for other phones. They way they achieve their monster capacity is that the battery does not just occupy the battery slot, but pancakes over the whole back surface of the phone. It does not reach as high as the camera, but everything else on the back gets covered up. In addition, I can't think what other purpose would have the four holes on the bottom edge if not for the speaker. You can see both the holes and how the battery covers up the speaker in the third picture of that ebay link. OFC it would still be muffled that way.
TBH, even though I was a loyal customer previously, I think I'll pass on this battery for now too. My reasons are:
1. I need an everyday use device, not a ruggerized brick that I could use as a weapon in a tight spot.
2. Covered ports - in addition to finding a dock compatible with this monstrosity, I now need to fiddle with port covers
3. Muffled speaker. I spend plenty of hours on teleconferences and a loud speaker is important to me.
4. I finally jumped on on the wireless charging bandwagon and there is no going back. I just love the convenience of just putting the phone down and picking it up whenever without messing with connectors. I bought a couple of chinese TYLT ripoffs for home and office and a one touch car phone holder with wireless charging. With G3s excellent stock battery life, I am covered for day to day. I also applied for their spare battery promotions, so I think I'll be OK for flying/traveling as well. I will test that theory soon.
Didn't realise the speaker covered up until after I purchased. If its bad when I get it, I may just cut a whole out haha. Smh. or end up hestitantly using it.. hope its not the deal breaker. imam miss wireless charging too. But that extra battery life will be extremely handy

On their other products with rear speakers, they leave a channel under the battery where the speaker is and have a hole in the bottom of the case to direct it out. It's not ideal, but having a rear mounted speaker isn't really ideal either. If they are doing this on their G3 product, it should be OK.

Q: Looks like over sized case covers the back speaker is this true or is this just the picture. If case does cover the back speaker how does this work.

Do the buttons work every time ? Also dose the case interfere with the camera, my g2 zerolemon case was not too good. The camera (especially with flash) would make pictures look bad. On the pictures one corner was blocked pretty bad. The buttons work 7 Times out of 10. Hopefully the fixed All that for the G3, if they did I'd love to have it.

Just go on ebay. I bought one for £2.99 in the uk, which was nice and rubberised, with openings for camera key, volume, power, charging and magnetic dock. It's slim, black, but doesn't completely cover the phone. It's nice enough.

Nice that sounds like what I'm looking for. Do you have a link?
The Case Mate Tough for the Z3 only has openeings for the micro USB port, magnetic charging and wrist-holder thing (I think).
It uses it's own buttons for the power, volume and camera, and doesn't expose the flaps on the right side at all.
root setting
does anyone know a case that has no cutouts apart from magnetic charger port
This happened to me twice i think you buy Z3 cover
I used my dremel to solve this
You should to buy Z3 Dual cover and make sure that really compatible with it ?

Subscribing, interested in such a case as well, magnetic port only.
I got this one.

Openings for power, volume and camera buttons on the right, and the power flap, magnetic port and lanyard on the right. It does pry up a screen protector if you have one, though.

Does that one have edges which range slightly over the screen to protect the phone from falls on flat surfaces?
Roxfit all the way for me. Had mine for a year and is the best durable slimcase. Just ordered the new model with softgel edges that covers most.

Does it have magnetic charging cutouts?
Link?
Remains to see as i ordered it yesterday . I use the old model now and you need to have the flap open to connect it
Can you put a link mate? Is it white or black? I see that you have a white Z3, I also have the white version and I don't like the look of black cases on it.

It does, except at the bottom. I can provide pictures of the case on the phone if necessary.

Thanks a bunch! Is that a hard or soft shell? And do you have an additional screen protector on it?
