So I just got a View, and for the most part it seems to be a well-crafted device. But, when I press on the front side of the plastic piece on the bottom (right above the charging port), it makes like a cracking noise, like the plastic doesn't fit right. Does anyone else have this? I'm trying to decide whether it's major enough to try to send in for warranty/RMA, especially since I took the OTA to HC and now want to HTC unlock to flash back and do S-Off for some rom action, which I think would void the warranty :-/
Mine is very solid, no cracking at all.
just got mine today and it does have that cracking noise ..
Hmm okay....well so far is 50/50 lol so maybe its common. I noticed that the plastic piece on the bottom can be slid forward and lifted off the charge port, and the noise seems to be coming from the gap between the screen border and the plastic piece over the charge port. So, maybe I'll try putting something in the gap to see if it stops. I feel stupid doing a warranty claim for something so trivial.
no cracking here, but i got something i do not like.
the screen is not fitted correctly on the lower side of the device.
It is not in line with the rest of the metal part, in fact is aprox 1 mm above it.
If you look at it you may not see it but if you swype your finger you can feel the edge of the glass.
But otherwise it is well built device.
I do not think i am going to try to replace it(or maybe i will).
That's ok. I almost ripped my bottom off looking for the sd card slot.

Lol my View has that too! Click click click
Also afflicted with the click. Kind of annoying bit of cheapness/shodiness on an otherwise very solid device. Wondering if a silicone cover would help mask it...
I have something similar but it was on the top camera cover. Where it wraps around directly under the power button it didnt seal right, and there was a gap that irritated me. After trying to fix it with no luck I ended up sending it back to amazon and bought another. New one perfect.
After a pint or two at the pub, the lighted buttons wiggle and wave at me. Should I return the unit, or stop drinking so much?

Looks like I got one dot on the middle right side, tiny specks on the top right side, and a few more on the top. I also got some light leakage, but that's very, very minor compared to the dust under the screen. I'm kinda OCD about this, so I'm thinking of getting an exchange at Bestbuy..
What about you folks?
You sure its not dead pixels. Anyways, if it bothers you return it. its about customer satisfaction. So what if they look at you strange, you'll be happier and anyways, who cares about them.
Damn why can't HTC get this right! It seems every new HTC phone gets dust under the screen.
Yeah. Hopefully my new TPU case that's coming will block a lot of the incoming dust after my exchange.
I'm having some other problems as well, preferably with 3D youtube videos not playing in 3D. :/
I was thinking about getting the Otterbox Defender but I decided not to because of the size of it, But now I think I'm gonna get it because it will totally keep dust from getting under the screen.
I havent had this issue myself since the Hero, but it was most definitely annoying. It got so bad that I was tempted to just spray the phone with aerosol lol
Every HTC phone I have had has screen lifting issues. When you get a new htc phone press around the screen. If you hear any popping sounds the screen is strarting to left and will get dust under it. I use a hair dryer and get the screen really hot. Then press the screen down for 3 to 5 mins. This will help seal the screen and will keep dust out of your new phone. There can be dust under the screen from poor manaurfatioring proccess so inspect your new phone then use the hair dryer trick before it gets dust under the screen.
Yeah I got a damn spec of dust stuck inside my camera lens too... good thing its off to the side edge but yeh that urrrks!

I got the otterbox commuter case and it is wonderful. It is like silicone so it isn't slick and it doesn't add a lot of mass to the phone. It will still go in your pocket easily.
Mine had dust too. Exchanged it as soon as I noticed it.

I literally just watched a piece of dust get stuck under the screen when I was wiping it off. It wasn't there, then a moment later it was. This is in addition to 3-4 other specs I just noticed today. I think I may go into the Sprint store this weekend and exchange it. Has anyone had any trouble exchanging it for dust issues?
I just noticed 2 specs of dust near the charging port, very annoying. I had this issue with the Hero as well...got about 3 replacements, and they all eventually got dust under them.
Anyone have an issue exchanging their phone with this issue? I got mine at Best Buy, so they better take it back.
I got mine at Best Buy as well. Just make some stuff up like the buttons feels loose and the battery will drain randomly at times.
Why, is dust under the screen not a valid reason to return it? It shouldn't happen.
You guys should put a piece of tape over the headset jack when not in use. Most dust comes in through that jack.

Why the eff should somebody have to do this to any phone let alone a brand new phone? If you have to do that then its not built right.
True, but it works.

Hi,
Is anyone elses Prime have problems with creeky, lifting glass either to the right of the charger slot or the area with the volume adjuster? I don't want to send it to Asus to have it "Repaired" just for having creeky glass but I'm tempted (I can't send it back to Gamestop as I live in the UK). Do you think blasting it with a heat gun/Hair Dryer and pushing down on it will fix it?
Thanks, and nice forum .
ya I also have it next to the volume thing and near my camera I don't know if I should return it or send it to get repaired.
Not so far... Mine has no problems at all.
Was it this way when you received it?
Just noticed this yesterday to the right of the Volume control on mine. This is my second Prime as the first one had a faulty MicroSD slot but no other defects. I wonder if I can take it back to Gamestop (again) or will I have to deal with ASUS directly.

It wasn't anywhere near as bad, at least not to the right of the charger slot. It is about a 2" by 1.5" rectangle that goes down by about 1 or 2mm when pushed down on it. I said if it gets any worse I'll send it to ASUS but I don't want to spend up to weeks without it because of this.
Do you reckon attempting to heat the adhesive with a hair dryer could cause damage to the screen/glass?
I have it too!
Just wanted to let you know that I also have the same issue. I noticed it first by the 2 inch section of bezel to the right of the dock arrow, and just noticed it by the volume keys after you pointed it out to me. I have pondered exchanging it with Best Buys, but I wondered if this was unreasonable. Any fixes or suggestions anybody? Thanks!

I noticed it to the right of my charger port a week or so ago.
Makes a light creak noise when pushing on it. Not an area I really touch, but annoying all the same. Living in Australia, not going to RMA (yet at least), and can't send it back to B&H anyway.
Havn't noticed it get any worse.
How long would an RMA from Asus take? I would prefer to do an in-store exchange, but none of the Best Buys around me have Primes in stock. Also, what store is B&H? It doesn't sound familiar.
I thought it was only me having the problem to the right of the charger port. In this case it's probably a widespread issue that's due to there being no support underneath the glass.
I've go this problem too. Mine is right above the speaker and, to a lesser extent, above the volume rocker. The one above the speaker seems to be getting worse, probably because I can't stop myself from repeatedly pressing on the f***ing thing...
I also have some light bleed at the top of my screen, so what I'm going to do is wait until near the last day of Best Buy's extended Holiday return period (1/24) then go swap it out in-store. Hopefully by then they will have stock so I won't have to be tablet-less for any length of time.
Mine has light bleed down the right side of the screen, and the ride side of the tablet appears to be slightly raised. I can literally push the glass flush against the underbody. So yes, I have the same problem.
It is weird, it just feels a bit loose on the right hand side.
One thing I did notice is that it appears the Touch Glass is attached to the Back Panel with a rubbery adhesive or a rubber "filter" type thing. It almost reminds me of a gasket or something. So maybe it was actually designed to have some give since you will always be touching and pressing on the glass. However, I would expect that rubbery adhesive was intended to let the screen move a little in as you push it, but not somewhat push the screen away from the Back Panel.
Mine creeks where the time/notifications are in the bottom right of the screen
Is anybody willing to try heating up the screen a little bit with a hair dryer and then pressing the screen down until it dries/cures again?
I know when Anandtech.com described their teardown of the Prime, they used this method (hair-dryer/heat-gun) to get the screen off. He said he was able to put everything back together after he took it apart (I'm sure he has lots of experience though). Maybe this could actually be a really simple solution?
Having the same issue here guys. Just noticed it last night-I bought mine from Office Depot and I went and exchanged it right away. I opened my new one and it has the same issue. From what I am reading here it looks like it's a wide-spread issue and almost everyone has it.
I was wondering the same thing-how can I glue it to the back panel so it doesn't move. Mine has it above the speaker and a little bit on the other side where the volume keys are.
Any ideas on how to fix it?
Thanks.

There is abthred in the general section on disassembling the Prime and they say not to heat up the unit since the screen isn't glued in it is dual tape of some sort. I have this same problem. After removing my back to insert my microSD card and reattaching the back, the case no longer closes completely, with casing immediately on the bottom of the volume rocker not latching on properly. In attempting to make it, I pressed firmly on the edge and it made my screen ripple slightly for a moment.
My EVO4G would ripple when I squeezed the sides. It was one of those thing you found out about through other people complaining. Yet after a while I never even noticed that anymore. I don't think I ever needed to squeeze a phone that hard either.
Just remember. Cell phones are like cars. They used to build them well with no features, now they build them cheap with the works.
Speaking of build quality....my phone is barely 3 days old...dropped it a short distance..way shorter than more of the hundred plus times I dropped my inc 2...and the damn screen shattered.....wtf..
Sent from my ADR6410LVW using xda app-developers app
It's not necessarily how far you drop it (although there is a point at which height just overcomes everything, call it terminal velocity hehe) but it's where it hits. Tempered glass is extremely strong, but it's also tempered. An extremely light tap from just the right direction will cause it to shatter.
A perfect example of this was a gas station I worked at back in college. The glass they have that protects the cashier from an explosion is about 3 inch thick tempered glass. It would withstand an explosion of huge magnitude. I watched them replace that pane of glass one day, when they removed it, they loaded it into the back of a truck and gave it a slight rap on the corner with a hammer and it shattered in the bed of the truck. They did this intentionally by the way

Take some black electrical tape, cut a strips about 1 inch long and about 2-4 mm wide. You will want to put them under the lip of the back case, adhesive side in, on the middle left, upper right(above the antenna not on them), top and bottom. if you cut them thin enough the case will snap back on and never creak,
I had todo this on my rezound too, they made these backs really flimsy to the point where they eventually won't snap back together.
Does anyone else's phone screen flex and make a creaking sound around the left hand edge of the screen, around an inch up from the bottom. No other part of the screen flexs or creaks other than this part. The rest feels solid and won t budge. Don't know if I have a faulty unit.

sorta sounds like your screen isn't adhering tight to the case and if that's the case i would return it.. it will only lead to problems.

Anyone else having physical problems with their Z2?
As of a few weeks ago, I've started noticing that the top right corner of the back panel of my Z2 popping up slightly (like 2mm to 3mm) several times a day and I would have to press it back down. The cover on the USB/SIM area will also mysteriously be open sometimes when I fish the phone out of my pocket even though it does still feel quite firmly closed once I put the cover back in place.
I went down to my local Sony service centre and they said that they will rectify the issues for me and might replace the "loose" flap too (also told me to avoid water since it's not waterproof with the back like that) - but it would take 7 working days and that I should call their helpline to check if there was any issue for me sending my set in as it has an unlocked BL.
Seems like the original Z had the same problem with the back cover - http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/08/0...ose-back-panels-water-resistance-compromised/ and the loose flaps issue isn't new either (but the rubber seals on mine look perfect).
Flash a stock kernel and relock your bootloader, few people actualy check these days for DRM keys however they do check rarely for your bootloader status
And your physical problems are totaly abnormal so try very hard to get a replacement

I just applied this - http://www.wd40specialist.com/products/silicone-lubricant/) - thinly using a q-tip. No worries. Wasn't too expensive and it could be closed again once I cleaned it off. Tried a slightest touch of hair gel (I was desperate...LOL) and that didn't work too well either.
I guess I'll just try to relock the BL and feign ignorance and send it in for "hardware faults" even though the bored sounding helpdesk lady on the phone said that the warranty is voided.

Genuinely quite disappointed with the niggling faults that the phone has. Random freezes and self-reboots and WIFI issues on my Z2 and my dad's Z1 is making me lose confidence in Sony to deliver a solid all-round device. It's a really beautiful phone with a wonderful camera but compared to build quality and software stability my previous HTC M7 (converted to a GPE ROM) which was essentially bulletproof and could have months and months of uptime without a reboot...ugh.

For me, the flaps are good, and the back panel on the edges doesn't seem to pop up or to be misaligned with the edge, but on a light press on a few places it feels like the back panel is loose, and you can hear a small "tactile" feedback when pressed.
Should i get it checked or is it just a little hollow on these few places? For me that's the spot a little to the left and bottom of the SONY logo on the back, in height of the volume rocker.

I've received my new USB flap and the issue is fixed, the new flap is not loose. It was not due to the phone body as I feared but a premature wear of the flap...
Anyway, I don't recommend to open the flap but in exceptional circumstances. Transferring files wireless and charging phone with magnetic port should be the rule and recommended by Sony.

To be honest, it's just the hassle of having to wait a week (and having to go back to my HTC M7) or so for them to get it fixed. Plus my set might not be accepted by them as the BL is unlocked (towelroot came too late for me unfortunately )
I do intend to send it in for repairs (also dinged the flap a little, might as well get that swapped out too) some time soon as the loose back is really REALLY bugging me.
My god I have the same problem. Everytime I pull it out of my pocket the flap is out. Damn this phone was perfect . I cleaned soo ****ing well and the USB flap stays in more time but its still poping out.
