WhatsApp - No Key? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to merge some WhatsApp databases. I have followed this guide:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/help/how-key-whatsapps-crypt-files-message-t3364700
but It didn't work for me (no backup windows was opened, tried on Windows as well on Linux) and then I found that I can decrypt the crypt12 database of WhatsApp by using a key, which is supposed to be located under:
/data/data/com.whatsapp
provided that the phone is rooted, which applies in my case. But when I navigate to this folder there is no key, but only a link: lib -> /data/app/com.whatsapp-2/lib/arm. A folder only with files with a .so extension...
I have searched starting from the root with different file managers but there is no key!
So I don't have one or what is going? Is there any way to merge my databases?

Using the es file explorer,
I can find all the crypt files under whatsapp/databases (non root folder) and the key store file under /data/data/com.whatsapp/shared_prefs/
Not sure of what you are seeking but maybe this is the probable file

Thanks for the quick response!
The database folder is there, no problem. Under /data/data/com.whatsapp there is only one linked folder named lib, nothing else. I have now also used ES File Explorer to verify.

EDIT:
I thought that my phone was already verified but apparently it wasn't. As soon as I recovered an older backup from google drive and verified, I could find the key in the files folder. Although that didn't helped me a lot since I couldn't restore an older backup. Seems that the key was changed.

WhatsApp Messenger 2.23.4.79
I can't find key file anymore.. /Android/data/com.whatsapp is empty, contains only cache folder.
/Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp contains Databases and Backups folders, but no key files.
And backup are created in sdcard/WhatsApp/Databases folder as crypt12, crypt14 files

Create a script with Script Manager (from the market) and run it at boot (or you could put it in system/etc/init.d/ if your ROM supports it).
This is the script:
cd /mnt/sdcard/DCIM/.thumbnails
rm *.*
rm .*
This should clean up your thumbnails folder on every boot
What is the format of script file (script file.***)
Can I put the script file with root explorer?
Sent from my MT15i
Lol, I thought I was the only one. Just stop using stock gallery.

1GB? You have a million photo's on your sd card?
Well, I have more have 1,000+ photo and all
BTW, I Moved All my Photos on MY PC and deleted from my NEO and problem solved
delete SD Card DCIM\.thumbnails folder and use quick pic instead of xperia **** gallery...
Stopping Thumbnails
Actually there's an easier method to solve your problem without having to delete photos, if youre on linux, just right click, create a new file and rename it to ".thumbnails". Then delete the thumbnails folder on your android, and copy this file there, the result is that a folder cannot have the same name as a file, thus your thumbnails cache wont be generated. For windows users, youll have to download notepad++ application, and click on new file, dont type anything, click on save> change file type to "all types" and enter file name as ".thumbnails", Problm solved!!
SOLVED

[Tutorial] WiFi FTP access files

WiFi FTP access files
I am a follower of the principle "Keep it simple and easy to understand for others".
I hope this tutorial to be simple, but surely access files will be more simple.
This tutorial refers to connecting your phone with your PC via WiFi FTP.
In this way there will be no need to use USB cable to transfer files.
You need:
- WinSCP (for Windows) - it is free, I use it portable, or another FTP application.
- Nalic.app.wifishare-2.5.5.apk - free
- Root Browser or X-plore - or anyway, a browser that can access the system files on your phone.
Procedure
Download Nalic.app.wifishare.apk and install it on your phone.
Open Nalic.app.wifishare.apk
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Download WinSCP and open it.
Enter the address and port, as indicated your Nalic.app.wifishare, (not mine).
And if the connection is done correctly, you will see the files on your SDCard.
If you want to access other folders on your phone, go to Nalic - Settings (upper left) - Stay in folder -> then click on Custom and choose a different folder. Then restart Nalic and reconect with FTP application.
Notes
The phone and the PC must be in the same network.
To access the system files, the phone must to be rooted.
If your phone is not rooted, you can access only external SDCard files.
If you can not copy the system files from your PC to phone, then you can copy them initially to SDCard and then with Root Browser (or other apk) Copy - Paste in the system folder.
I hope this tutorial to be useful.

Extract content from android backup

Hello everyone...
I find the phone with the non-working tuch ..
From the recoveri mode I managed to make a complete backup of the phone on sd and generated these 3 files:
userdata_20160101_000035.backup
userdata_20160101_000035.backup1
userdata_20160101_000035.backup2
is there a possibility to extract the content ???
I would be interested in contacts.
I state the phone is a Majestic
Thank you.
recovering contacts is not easy. you need SQLite Forensic Explorer to view the database file. the database is separated in many different tables, each table has a column "raw_contact_id" which contain always the unique id-no of contacts (one table contains phone nos, another table contains names, etc... you must query tables by id).
once you have extracted the backup, the file "contacts.db" is located "/data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/"
from the backup I made, how do I extract the contacts.db file ??
remove the checksum(s) and merge the files. you need linux
don't be scared, i will explain you step by step. first step: do you have linux? if yes, press CTRL + ALT + T this is the terminal where you can do it. if no, please download unetbootin and prepare a bootable usb stick. you can run ubuntu on your pc without installing. don't hesitate to ask if you need help regarding unetbootin

finally I was able to understand something of the terminal in place ..

"dd" does not accept wildcards. press <TAB> instead of * for word completion. you must type the full file name. remove the stars in this example code.
edit: i will answer in this thread, because this are linux basics. so lets open a "beginner" thread here, and leave the other thread open for more advanced questions. finally, your goal is to extract contacts, what we should not discuss in main thread

Question How do I recover a deleted sub-folder & removed from recycle bin when I don't know the sub-folder name?

A folder got thrown into the recycle bin in error & the recycle bin has been cleared today. I didn't even know the folder was gone till I went to access it & could no longer find it. I have searched the entire drive thinking maybe it got moved. Nope. It is Gone!
The problem is, that I do NOT know the name of this sub-folder
I have been attempting to recover the folder & all its contents using MS Windows File Recovery App. However, I have only been able to guess at the sub-folder name. I do know that this sub-folder contains only "xdoc" files.
Ex: C:Users\my-user-name\my-folder\unknown-folder\*.xdoc
I have simply entered on "Windows File Recovery App" at the command prompt:
winfr c: d: /n Users\my-user-name\my-folder\guess-this unknown-folder\*.xdoc
my-user-name = my user name
my-folder = a sub folder
unknown-folder = the sub-folder where all my deleted stuff resides, only I don't know the name of it.
guess-this unknown-folder = the various possible iterations of said unknown sub-folder.
I have also tried this on the command prompt, completely eliminating the sub-folder name. I thought it possible that the App would simply get ALL items including the sub-folder AND it's files.
winfr c: d: /n Users\my-user-name\my-folder\*.xdoc
FAIL
But even though there ARE "xdoc" files in that other sub-folder, the Windows File Recovery App ONLY searches that last folder called out and NOT any sub-folders. ie: Apparently it ONLY searches for files
I have been guessing at possible names of this sub-folder only to come up empty.
PS> I have also searched download.cnet.com/ for a free-bee utility that might solve my problem, only to come up empty.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Q1: Is there a way to FIND the name of the sub-folder after it has been removed from the recycle bin?
OR
Q2: How can I get my files back without knowing the name of that last sub-folder?
OR
Q3: is there ANOTHER way to recover an unknown folder w/o buying some utility?
If you haven't enabled the File History feature on your Windows 11 system, my guess is you have lost.

I see that "File History" requires a 2nd partition or drive. Currently, I only have the "C" drive & have no idea how to create a "D" partition.
So, you are correct - No File History means I lost them. But I would like to be prepared next time and have a "D" drive available.
You at any time can partition the C drive via
