Hello, so currently I m on H90120J and I keep getting notification to update software, but since H901 is a bit strange with rooting I m not sure if I should update.
Currently my bootloader is unlocked but I can't install two. I need to investigate on how can I achieve that since fastboot Command returns error when I try to install TWRP 3.
there are a tutorial in xda forum about how to do root. and after doing root it doesn't matter if you have latest update installed before rooting or not.
cheers

Hello,
PC Companion says that i have a new update, but i've unlocked and rooted my phone, so when the install should begin, an error pops up saying that i have a modded firmware and i cannot update it.
So, i think the same issue will go on when next week or next year ICS will be released.
The question is: what i have to do to update my XS? I've to flash the ftf loosing the recovery and then reinstall it? Doing that, i will lost all the apps and everything on my phone?
Thank You very much
If you have unlocked bootloader, you cannot update using the official method, but only through flashtool.
If for some reason you want to use the official way, you should relock the bootloader, here is the guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527159
As far as my knowledge goes: You could backup your apps, lock your bootloader, upgrade to ICS, unlock bootloader, achieve root, restore apps. You'll probably have to wait for root for ICS though, shouldn't take long at all.
Or at least that's how I hope it will work.
So, the faster way is to wait for a custom rom correctly packed to be flashed via recovery
Thank guys
Im sorry if this has been answered in other threads im simply trying to help a friend out with rooting and possibly unlocking the boot loader? Can someone point me in the rite direction? It would be most appreciated
I would check the Verizon LG G3 forums where there are many instances of your questions having been already thoroughly answered.
What you will find is that you must be on v10b firmware, which you can downgrade to using either the .kdz or the .TOT method, then you can root v10b (only) with StumpRoot, or ioRoot, or PurpleDrake, before the phone updates back to v12b. With SuperSu in survival mode root can be retained through either of the current OTA updates (which provide very little enhancement beyond patching root exploits), so far, and with root you can install a specially modified TWRP recovery which will allow the flashing of unsigned kernels and roms.
There. You are on your own from hete on.

use flashify to install the bumped version of twrp (get it from the original development section). Worked like a charm. Plenty of bumped roms to grab in the dev section.

There is no unlocking of the bootloader. Bumping doesn't unlock the bootloader. However, it fools the phone into allowing the flashing of custom ROMs and kernels without unlocking the bootloader. Basically, the phone "believes" that whatever is being flashed (via TWRP) is acceptable and allows the image to pass the "security check" that is done when flashing. It's the same thing as IF the bootloader were unlocked, but in reality, it isn't unlocked. It's a security exploit, kind of like rooting this phone is a security exploit.
However, a quick OTA patch from Verizon or LG could make either or both no longer work. In fact, some OTAs have fixed the root exploit on some models, so you have to flash back to a previous version to root.
You have to root first, then you can flash TWRP.
As stated, there are plenty of FAQs in the general G3 section that help explain all of this.
OK thanks guys. Um just used to seeing a sticky on root under original android development I have no idea what firm ware he's running ik how restrictive big red can be at&t is no better but that's why when they offered a nexus I went and grabbed it

Go here which gives a whole list of things, including how to root, how to bump, how to flash, etc:

It's where I went before I got this phone to be sure I could do all the things I wanted to.
Thank you
I'll definitely refer him
Hey there,
the bootloader of my G5 (h850) is unlocked.
TWRP installed, root not yet (but i could)
For some unknown reason my wireless does not work anymore so i wanted to update my android to V10D (europe).
After i will install custom roms but at first i wanted to know if i have a hardware problem.
Due to the TWRP an OTA update is not possible .
Now my question:
Can i install V10D via LGUP with an unlocked bootloader?
Or do I have previously perform a relock ?
thanks in advice
you can with unlocked
just go ahead
First time rooting. Apparently the bootloader is locked & I need a PC, the eng boot, and the bat file. I just don't know where to start, could someone point me to a relevant & up-to-date tutorial/steps?
Build: NRD90M.G930PVPU4BQH1
I have not activated yet, but I did update Android and installed another update as well. Is the bootloader locked on the G930P? Will I ever be able to root this phone?
Any help appreciated!
I have tried for multiple hours to get fastboot and ADB to work with my S6 Edge but it is not working. I suspect I might need to try older Samsung drivers (I only tried the latest ones as far as I remember). I wanted these tools in order to check if my bootloader was unlocked so that I wouldn't brick my device if I tried to install a custom ROM and TWRP. Anyway I followed a video and installed TWRP on my phone and installed Lineage OS Android 10 without checking the bootloader since the guy in the video did not mention doing so and still installed the custom ROM and TWRP. It is working fine. I know it is most likely that since this was possible, the bootloader should probably be unlocked but I just wanted to confirm with more experienced smartphone modders if this is indeed the case. Is it then safe to root my phone without checking bootloader?
Sub-question: If a person were to theoretically attmept to install custom ROM or TWRP or root the phone while the bootloader is locked, would that result in the root failing but the device still being usable or would the attempt result in the device being bricked? IE if the bootloader is locked is it dangerous to attempt to flash software to the phone or will it result in a harmless "failed" message, etc.?
Thank you.
