If you want to have a swap file (swap.swp) this could possibly corrupt your fat partition. This is based on my own personal experience of course. I recommend use a swap partition honestly.
Just imagine mounting your sdcard to your computer to transfer files while your phone is still attempting to write to /sdcard/swap.swp. This can theoritically cause problems. And you don't want problems on your sdcard. A seperate partition is the safest way to go. But again... just my opinion.
NB: This mod will only work if the kernel you use has swap support built in !
Note that if you are using a rom based on Cyanogen's kernel it is NOT recommended to use swap at all. It will slow down your phone causing more problems than what it's worth. ('Swap grave' is how he put it.)

How to enable swap partition of external sd card ? I have already rooted my phone and created EXT3 and SWAP on my micro sd card(32GB). But i am not able to use swap feature.

Does anybody know of a ROM that has a setting in it to allow the switching / swapping of the internal SD space for the external SD card? Currently on the blaze 4G we have to modify by hand the vold.fstab file but there is suppose to be a rom/s that has this setting in it so the user does not have to modify the files...just a check box in the settings somewhere. I was asked to see if I can find the whereabouts of one by the dev for dirty unicorn on the blaze4g so he can integrate it in the new rom.

I swapped my internal memory with SD card by editing vold.fstab now i want to revert back as this feature is already provided in new Roms. unfortunately i'm not able to edit this file again it comes up with error !!
so can anyone please provide original file of vold.fstab so i can replace it with mine !

Similar one >> I'm not able to partition my memory card i've used mini tool and CWM to do so but it show's damaged memory card and i have to format it with CWM partitioning it can't detect 2nd partition so this is very irritating and i just bought class10 16gb memory card yesterday. please guide if you have any idea about that !

but... is there any way or method to swap between internal and external SD Card for CM12.1 (LP / 5.0.x)..
like we have on i9100-KK (CM11), I already use swapSd.zip to be flashed via recovery.. (Ex: Using script placed on init.d or whatever that possible??)
