Facebook messenger issues - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Themes, Apps, and Mods

Hey ever body I'm not sure if anyone else is having the problems I'm having with Facebook messenger but I've tried clearing the cache memory, uninstalling re-installing and nothing helps I actually have the same problem with my PC . When I go to send a message it has taken as much as an hour to send sometimes it doesn't send at all and I've googled my butt off to no avail. I'm hoping someone here has an answer as to how to fix it my S8 is still on 7.0 and it's a Sprint phone if you have any ideas you can either post them here or email me at [email protected] admins sorry if I'm putting in the wrong section
Thanks in advance,
Harry

I have no issues with FB messenger on my T-Mobile S8+, when I send one I get a response within minutes if not sooner. I'm wondering if you have another app on your phone that is causing issues with FB messenger app, not sure what it might be though.

Try these
1st
Settings: Applications: 3 Dots in right corner: Special Access: Optimize Battery Usage: Change view to all apps: Then turn off anything Facebook related.
2nd
Remove accounts and re-sign in
3rd
Verify Sync is enabled and data isn't restricted for those apps
4th
Make sure data saver isn't enabled within Facebook or Messenger app settings
There could be a ton of reasons for this though. If non of the above resolves then most likely it's either carrier data/service related or FB servers. If none of this resolves and it continues much longer I'd suggest opening a support ticket with Facebook as they could get a better idea of what is causing the delay.
O and having multiple active locations signed in can cause you to miss out on notifications and even have delays in sending/receiving messages.

Closing apps isn't a problem nor would cache/data. It would be settings related, account related, or some mixture of both.
FB says to first try removing accounts, wipe data/cache, remove apps (FB & Messenger), then start over. The article was done back in KitKat days but that is the best way to start in narrowing down the "why" aspect.
The article that follows that points to VPN and ad blocking as a potential culprit but I would think that's unlikely in your case.
FB services app including update manager came preinstalled on S7/S7 Edge in which I once had your same issue for a week but using package disabler I wiped those, uninstalled app (FB & Messenger), rebooted, followed by installing again. Fixed the issue and until now hadn't thought of it.

I used app to wipe data on them all and only uninstalled Facebook and Messenger the normal way. Have you changed the battery optimization settings like mentioned in my post a few back? Also account removal is an important step.

[Q] System update

After hacking the phone to run webtop without the docks, I was just going about my phone and was curious about the "System updates" button and got this:
Social Networking account required
"com.android.setttings.deviceinfo.CheckUpdate" is not available without a social networking account. To create a new account, click "Setup" button
When I click the setup button, nothing happens. Did I mess up one of the files during the process of hacking my phone, because before attempting the webtop hack, when I still had root and adeo on, I did not get this message.
Account syncing: my facebook account will not sync with the contacts on my phone. The social networking app and widget is not running properly for the same reason as from the message given above ^^.
Can someone help me with this? Thanks
Did you use Titanium Backip to freeze apps. This is a symptom of freezing apps. To get this to work unfreeze all your apps and make sure the MotoBlur account is syncing.
I didn't use titanium backup to freeze any of the apps. I'm still kind of new to android and so I might need some guidance in more simpler terms
Did you create a blur account?
yes and it was already linked when I received my unit on the 21st
would it be reasonable to attempt a factory reset, even though I rooted it and installed ADEO?

What exactly does freezing do? I can't seem to find a answer on the net. Can one manually "defrost" a frozen app?

I think so, I'm pretty sure TiBu just adds a ".bak" to the application because when you freeze something it's still in your app drawer until you restart your phone vs when it's uninstalled its gone instantly. The benifit to freezing vs uninstalling is if you freeze the wrong thing or want it back it's still there, but if you uninstall it it's gone and you'd need to ask someone else for it or something.
anyone solved this error? I also got the error today
Is your phone deodexed? That could be the problem maybe.

[Q] Email link press causes Android System to crash

I've searched around and haven't found anything like this so I'm posting to see if my fellow XDA GN3 users might be experiencing something similar.
Whenever I press on an email link either nothing happens or the it crashes the Android System.
It is most apparent in the Gmail app; I press on an email link expecting it to open a new reply window but instead it locks up for a second then it prompts me with a "Unfortunately, Android System has stopped." notification. If I long press on the email then I get the "options menu" Nova Launcher provided.
When I press a email link in the Chrome app it simply doesn't do anything, no crash, no gmail reply window... Just nothing.
I'm curious what is causing this instability. Is it Nova Launcher (suspect)? Is it Gmail? Is it something else?
Has anybody experienced this or anything similar? Any solutions?
I tried clearing the cache and data but that didn't work. I'm open to any suggestions.
Edit: Submitted report to Google, could be a Gmail issue.

This is correct.
Rooted, TWRP, DeOdexed Stock ROM
What other apps have you noticed crashing? Have you any clues on whats causing it?
I'm aware that we're in the testing phase of development, some things are going to be unstable.
So far the issues I've noticed aren't a big deal to me, it is just nice have everything fully functioning, operational.

I'm also running Freeza's rooted stock DeOdex ROM and have noticed that the native email app is VERY unstable. I set up my account manually so did not do a restore or anything else. I know about the issues with restoring apps from TiBu, but Viperboy has applied a bandaid fix with his TB Restore Fixer app, which I used when I restored my apps. Wondering if restoring apps is causing some kind of issue with the native email app?
Did either of you restore apps when you started noticing this? Again, this, for me, is ONLY an issue with the native email app; I've not experienced an issue with any other apps (that I know or or can tell).
My gmail crashes everytime I click on a Facebook link. Weird.

Nope, I only just minutes ago created my first Titanium Backup... My issue seems pretty isolated to Gmail (clicking any email address link) so far, I haven't noticed any other apps acting up. I'm just long pressing the link till I get the option to send mail, rather than short press and crash the system.

I've ran into issues like this before, sometimes one or more of the suggestions below have helped. Also you will want to report the issue to facebook.
*Try clearing the cache and data for the facebook app (you will have to login again) and see if that helps.
*Uninstall the facebook app (or app updates), power off the phone, power it back on and reinstall the updates.
*If you have a lot of apps that are always running in the background try putting them to sleep to increase the available system resources/ram for facebook and see if that helps.
*Use the app on wifi instead of mobile and see if that helps, sometimes a hiccup in the data transmission or congested connection (mobile and/or wifi) might cause an issue.
I'm having same issues. I'm on Galaxy s9 plus and Facebook will freeze when scrolling for a few seconds everytime i keep scrolling up and down. I'm glad to hear that it's not only me having this issue. I had to block the Facebook update using Package Disabler and install an older version of Facebook and it works fine. Definitely need to fix the issue though.

EMUI 9.1 update - all notifications late or not appearing

I know this is a topic existing over internet, I've googled it extensively, but up to now I haven't found a solution.
I've got a non-pro Mate 10, the Chinese version AL-00, rebranded to International/Global ALP L-29.
Approximately two to three weeks ago I got an update from 9 to EMUI 9.1, and maybe a week later, another update as a security patch. The current version of the software is 9.1.0301 (C636E2R1P12).
After the system update, I normally updated all the apps that needed updating and cleaned the phone's cache from bootloader. And although now I once again receive notifications from Google play when an app needs updating (I stopped receiving those a while back for an unknown reason), I stopped receiving notifications for virtually any messaging service or social network, including Gmail app.
To be more specific, when using Gmail, Facebook Messenger, Viber, Whatsapp LinkedIn or some other, I do not get notified of new messages/posts/emails whatever, UNLESS I am using the phone at that particular moment, or unless I am using that specific app at that moment. That also applies for my bank's custom app which should normally notify me instantly as soon as some expense occurs on my card. A few times it even happened that I would receive and reply to a FB message, close the app and like an hour later would receive a notification that that specific person messaged me.
This only started happening after that last update.
I tried turning off battery optimization for each and every single of those apps, I tried switching App launch to manual. It literally makes no difference. Force stopping and cleaning the cache of the apps doesn't help as well.
While I could live with it when it comes to FB or LinkedIn, I cant have Gmail or FB Messenger holding my messages for so long without notifying me. I need them for my work and sometimes time is of the utmost essence.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated
EDIT: I just noticed that I'm having same problems with Google Keep app when using reminders
Please, guys, help!

Do you have root? Try freezing powergenie app, it should allow the notifications to come on time. The only issue is there might be a "slight" battery drain from more apps allowed to run in background. That was a dirty fix that worked even in emui 8/9 and peps seemed to have no issues even after the mod.
Since emui 9.1 introduces erofs file system, you'll have to either freeze the app in question everytime you reboot or create magisk module that during boot replaces contents of /system/app/HwPowerGenieEngine3 with empy folder - I'm not sure how removing odex files affects the thermals so I suggest just removing apk file and keeping everything else from the original directory intact if the temps and phone performance behave odly after doing this.
Feel free to give it a try, but I don't think it's actually worth doing it. The old forum post suggesting this mod actually overlooked the importance of power genie when it comes to temps + performance regulations across the board. Without it the temps will rise, phone won't supercharge and the performance will dip.
I'm actually playing around with this rn, trying to remove thermal limits on per app basis, if I come across anything I'll let ya know. Good luck

Yep I did, sometimes switching between WiFi and mobile network does activate the apps to check for new messages/mail, and sometimes it doesn't. I haven't noticed any clear pattern.
And it must be difference between XDA forums and the app. I swear I switched it when I bought the Mate. But I'm still on VIP/A1

No I haven't, but now that I checked, it was turned on all the time. However, knowing that sometimes this actually works, I toggled it off and back on several times and restarted the phone. I'll pay closer attention during the day to see if that helped and report back here. Thanks for the suggestion.
I too have this issue in my M10Pro specially in messenger. sometimes the chat icon doesn't appear even if i have an unread message.

Here's an update: Turning off and on the "Stay connected" option did not help at all, the real proof is that i received an email notification of cheeze.keyk replying to this thread, and I only saw it when I logged in on my PC. The phone did not notify me at all.
So the problem still persists, unfortunately. I am really hoping that I won't have to make a factory reset, although it is also uncertain if that would help at all.
totally bummed. my Mate 10 Pro screen just went crazy. It now has a bright green line all across the very bottom of the screen. And the whole screen now has a faint "screen door" effect going on. just enough to be irritating. I doubt I can live with it, but I loved this phone.

These two screenshots show show which apps I have frozen/disabled and which of the Google based apps have and don't have battery optimisation activated.
This essentially hasn't changed since I bought the phone over a year ago. Do you think I should do something with these apps or change some of their settings?
Send also the complete screenshot of Settings > Battery > App launch > Three dots > Manage manually.
Did you restrict background data maybe? Settings > Wireless & networks > Data usage > Network access > in upper drop down menu switch to Advanced network settings > Tick all apps on both installed and system apps list.
And the last question, do you use Smart Data Saver? Settings > Wireless & networks > Data usage > Smart Data Saver

Nope, data saver has been turned off and moreover, most of the apps seem to be ticked as an exception if it ever gets turned on
Hope that you put all checkmarks on Google Play Services and all other apps you have notifications problem.
Well as you can see, considering Google's apps, all is good.
I mean this one in Settings > Battery > App launch > Three dots > Manage manually, have a look on attachment.
So, my Email client, Google Play services, Moj Telekom, Viber and WhatsApp have set all three options: auto-launch, secondary launch and run in background. With this setup, I have no problems at all.

How to stop apps from viewing my installed apps?

Does anyone know of any way to block/stop apps such as Facebook from viewing my other installed apps?
With the new Facebook update they've now got tracking of your off Facebook activity. Its in your settings and it's called, Off Facebook Activity.
Don't believe me? Check, it's deffinatelly there now in latest update.
I know can turn it off but them being able to see my other apps and to see what I do on there just annoys me.
Is there any way that I can prevent them from seeing my apps.
Also some things I've googled have ended up getting my email address as got emails about what I searched.
I have ap-ops which don't have option to block it, I have xposed which I don't like to use as it stops other apps from functioning but I might start using it again if it stops this. Also I have magisk installed and rooted via this.
I have a Samsung galaxy S7.
Hope there's a way to do this, any apps or any other way that anyone knows.
Thank you.

@Guestme
You always can try to turn of and/or revoke an user-app's permission. Of course it then may happen that app is no longer properly functioning.
Below are the app permissions available on Android 6.0 and up. The permissions you see on your device may vary by manufacturer.
Body Sensors
Calendar
Camera
Contacts
Location
Microphone
Phone
SMS
Storage
Note: If device is running a version lower than Android 6.0, go to review app permissions for more information about how permissions work on your device.
