I am using CM/LineageOS since one year and it's snappier than the stock rom one year ago. Did the stock rom improve since than? I experience currently much lag and bluetooth issues (sound on headset stops to work on calls and phone needs a restart). What's actually the bottleneck in 5X which is cousing the lags? I have many apps installed: fb/messenger, whatsapp, podcast apps and some moos apps whis massive downloads (coursera, udemy, edx) - (downloads on sd card). Is current stock rom better than lineageOS?

I used Custom ROM for a long time. But not as good as stock ROM.
Stock rom is very good. And more stable. Have better battery life. Custom rom is a fast battery drain. I returned to stock. And in performance mode. Stable and fast. I recommended stock ROM.
Try out Cosmic OS and AOSPE. From my experience, these ROMs provide almost lagless, stable and 4Hours SOT on heavy use.

I am too using my phone as a daily driver. Cosmic OS is pretty stable and fluid. I once used cosmic os for straight month. Then I changed because I have a bad habit of repeatedly changing ROMs.
If you want to try out cosmic OS, don't install any other mods like kernel modification and etc. Just stick with what's provided. In the end, its your choice but I will not suggest going back to stock ROM.

what are the differences to lineage os? I am generaly happy with lineage os, battery life is good, the lag starts when many apps are installed so actually I attribute it to hardware limitations. bluetooth has some annoying issues (sound interferences and sound stopping to work on calls)

I have used LOS 14.1 for about 2 weeks before switching to Cosmic. Main difference is that cosmic provides more customization. Personally, even with about 50 3rd party apps installed I never experienced lags or slow loading. And about radios, cosmic is stable enough to provide stutter free experience.
You should give it a try. And don't forget about FStrim and Greenify application from play store.

Even though it is not apparent but you should use it after rom flashing and least once in a week.

Hey guys, just wanted to share.
I tried many roms (PA, CM, Omni, S5 Sensations etc) and I always find something missing/not working properly.
sometimes its the battery draining too fast, sometimes just random crashes and so on.
I'm thinking of going back to stock. I have the i9300 and the latest stock one is 4.3 (boooooo).
Has anyone done this route before? someone here also gone back from roms to stock?
Will be nice to hear others opinion.
Thanks :cyclops:

Even stock ROMs can be plagued by similar issues to be honest.
To minimise the irritations I always clean flash any ROM that I install and restore only apps, not data.
I'm currently rocking this stock based KK ROM port:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/development/rom-qs-i9300-kk-t2755841
with version 6.2 of this kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/development/kernel-boeffla-kernel-5-2-27-03-2014-t1964572
without any problems, it is certainly no less stable or functional than pretty much every factory Samsung ROM I have ever used.
If you do want to go back to 4.3 stock based ROM, I have always found Imperium http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37656328&postcount=2 to be pretty much perfect as a reliable, stable daily driver, using the stock kernel with a moderate profile (set in Aroma) I could easily get the thick end of 2 days off a charge under light use but with wifi always on and a bunch of apps like eBay, K9, Gmail, BBC weather syncing in the background.

Hey, you nailed it - main lag is within camera, gallery & dialer.
in Touchwiz i imminently replace the stock dialer with eXdialer, and the stock gallery with QuickPic.
I also been trying almost all the 4.3./4.4/5.02 but 4.3 stock base is the most stable and trouble free rom for me .
I cant stand whenever you want to snap a important picture the camera crash and need to restart.or phone freeze .
My favourites are 1- SMART DROID Simple v9.9 2-JustArchi_I9300XXUGNG3 3-NCSSROM NK2
#1 & 3 are heavily debloated + CROSSBREEDER it flys

what about multitasking in stock rom??
have you come across any stock rom with proper multitasking?
when i use stock rom almost all apps reload while multitasking (even with lot of free ram)
Hello guys,
I do not know if this problem happens to you ...
I use the latest version of CyanogenMod ofical NIGHTLY our LA friend (Caio) with the latest version of Dorimanx Kernel (I do not modified anything in the Kernel, only the sound booseter at + 20db). It is a very good Rom (at the beginning of use without applications without customization etc)
But when I start normally use the ROM (installed my personal applications, synchronizing email, contacts, etc), randomly, the system becomes unstable at times. There is no specific app, even in the launcher, or on the lock screen cell at times gets very lag (this happens dozens of times a day) often need to restart your phone to solve the problem of slowness. But at other times the phone is fast as a plane ...
I suspect it's some application that is running in the background. However I could not identify what ... I uninstalled antivirus, clean master, facebook, limit the number of processes, I put memory killer, and still continue with the issue.
My question is:
You also experience this problem? It is a problem in Rom?
If not, you know some application that enables me to identify what causes this problem? Eg an application that point: The 14:31:21 Avast application consumed 80% of CPU and 800MB ram ..
If anyone can help I thank. Because it does not know what else to do, I can see I'll have to buy a new phone, because in all Roms I installed the Galaxy S2 I go through this problem of Lag (Android 2.x, 4.x, 5.1, Neat Rom etc.) all.

Yes, this problem also occurs in the original roms samsung.
What I found most stable was the Neat rom (which is based on Stock rom), but it lacks the advantages lollipop, and I decided to keep the Lollipop. But this Lag / slowness, will make me end up throwing out the window my galaxy s2

Try KitKat if you still want a reasonably modern rom and fast experience. LP is still full of memory leaks and IMO, is still going to have issues for a while on our phone. The rom I recommend is slimsaber 4.4.4 by fusionjack. Or if you don't like this, try neatrom aosp. KitKat is way more polished than Lollipop and works the way it should. It still has plenty of support (as in there are custom kernels available) for custom kernels (like me ) and developers.
However, KitKat is not perfect for our device just like every other Android version. If you require the YouTube app, you will have to use a youtube mod of an older version, or if you require Skype, you may face issues. GPS can be unreliable, but I guess this is the same with LP.

+1 for what @gsstudios said
You could also try trimming your device. That may stop a lot of lags
Thanks guys for the suggestions.
From what I saw, it will take a long time for the Lollipop is stable for our GT I9100.
Following the suggestions of you, I returned to KIT KAT, and installed the "[ROM] [MIUI 6] [4.4.4] [I9100] [Blackra1n] [5.7.20] [STABLE] [ROM]
"I'm using it for two days, and did not notice any lag or Bug without mecionar the look is amazing that it has ...
Unfortunately I will have to give up some Lollipop resources for now.
I installed the slimsaber you suggested, however I found it very simplistic ROM. If I have a problem with MIUI, I will migrate to it.
Actually "memory killers" kill the speed of the smartphone. When processes are loaded in RAM, they are ready to be active on demand. If you kill them, before to be ready to start they have to be loaded again in RAM. Android isn't Windows. It doesn't need of a lot of free memory. More RAM is occupied, more fast are the processes. If more free RAM is necessary, kernel will free it.
My friends I need your help otherwise I will really be crazy or smash in my S3.
Firstly, I am an experienced user for flashing ROM, kernel etc. So You can ask me, if you need anything detailed.
I have serious RAM problems with my S3. My apps always restarting themselves including my Launcher, Nova. Because of this problem I jumped from ROM to ROM and waited with hope for every update in ROMs. But no help. I have this problem in every ROM I used and maybe the problem is hardware related. I don't know... I need your help about this issue.
I tried Archidroid 5.1 and Blisspop ROMs for a long time ( 6-7 months) and yesterday flashed NeatROM 4.3 to get rid of this problem but it is even worse in this ROM. When I go to working apps list from settings I see every second an app starts itself including Launcher and free RAM is around 15-90 MB. Since the launcher starts itself, apps and widgets loads themselves everytime, when I go to homepage from an app or settings. I always use greenify and now in NeatROM 4.3 I use it with xposed modules of it. Also I don't have so many apps running in the background but I don't know why I experience these issues.
Now, I use NeatROM 8.3 Jellybean 4.3 with Boeffla Kernel 5.1. After made a clean flash, I restored my apps with Titanium Backup with app+data. Then ı flashed Boeffla Kernel with wiping dalvik and cache.
My apps running in the background and approximate RAM usage for them is like this.
Nova Launcher >>> 35-60 MB
SwiftKey Keyboard >>>15-45 MB
Handcent SMS >>> 20-50 MB
Poweramp Music Player >>> 15-30 MB
Beautiful Widget >>> 5-20 MB
Jorte Calendar >>> 7-15 MB
Greenify >>> 7-15 MB
Adhan Time PRO >>> 10-20 MB
Beside these apps, Google Play Services has 3 apps and consuming at least 60-90 MB
I didn't install Facebook, Messenger etc. apps that consume a lot of RAM. Also, Instagram, Swarm etc. apps are always greenified.
With Beoffla Kernel, I tried some tweaks in both Lollipop ROMs and now with JellyBean too. Tweaked Android LMK settings in Boeffla Settings but no help with it and I loaded default settings again.
Now Phone is so slow and buggy, When I open an app and turn back to homepage, launcher items reload themselves slowly. On Homepage of launcher, I have Total 4 widgets in 4 pages and shortcuts for apps. Are those widgets heavy for the launcher? (See screenshots)
You can see my screenshots for launcher homepages, working apps list and turned off apps with Titanium Backup.
What could be the problem? Should I remove some of the above apps too? Am I doing something wrong? Could Restoring apps with their data can be the reason? Are the above apps heavy for S3?
Or do you thing my S3 has a hardware problem?
Please anyone who have an idea or suggestion comment here. I am really so pissed of with these issues I want to flash a stable customized ROM and use it until I upgrade my phone to a new one. Please help me especially developers.
I have used many different ROMS too. Some rebooted, others just ran out of memory. I decided that the real problem was Lollipop based ROMs.
So some months ago I flashed Slim i9300 4.4.4 -- I currently use build 9 (with SF fix -- at least for the bugs affecting KK Roms).
I flashed it using TWRP 2.8.6.1 though I now use TWRP 2.8.7.0.
Kernel: Boeffla 2.9 (with a BC file -- built by Edossi)
Gapps: Slim addons full gapps 4.4.4 build 9 - 20150107 zip.
SuperSU 2.49.
I use Nova Launcher.
I have Xposed installed and run Gravity Box 4.4.4 and Greenify from there.
I have an add blocker installed.
I have many heavy apps including Chrome and financial apps. I use BBC iplayer and watch streaming sport broadcasts on it too.
It NEVER reboots.
(add: My 4 year daughter can operate my S3 and she watches youtube for kids without any crashes)
If you install these and you still have crashes, I suggest that you have some data in your folders which is causing problems and draining your memory.
If you need links to any of these, I will provide them.

At least for 3 years I haven't used or tried any official firmware. My problem generally occurs after installing all the apps I used. On a clean flashed ROM I didn't have any RAM problem. I got problems after number of apps in phone and running in background increase. After I have customise the phone after flashing a ROM in a few hours phone gets slow and after 1 week it becomes unusable.

To be sure, I think you should try to install and use latest official firmware. with full wipe, root the phone, install and use TB to restore your apps over official firmware and try again your phone regarding RAM managment.
If you haven't problems anymore, then you don't have hardware issue and maybe your favorite apps aren't be the culprit.
Otherwise, if you still have RAM problems, then 2 options :
1- One or several of your apps are causing the RAM issue
2- You have hardware issue
I can't help anymore if you are sure that you have done everything possible with custom kernels / custom ROMs...
I think baltics is pointing you in the right direction. Best guess is there's an unruly app being greedy with your memory.
If you don't mind experimenting a little bit, I suggest you "step backward" a little bit, give KK another try and see if (after restoring your apps) you still are having problems. My personal recommendation is to try L-Droid KK here, because I used it for a daily driver for the life of the ROM, and it's bulletproof, while having about every feature you could ask for in a ROM. I only gave it up because after trying Lollipop, I really liked the format. The developer had planned to make a Lollipop, but his S3 died so he never started development.
Anyway, if you have problems with your equipment with this ROM, then you have either a hardware problem or a misbehaving app. And you can check the last choice by a VERY selective restore of your apps, one at a time.
Good luck, would be very interested to hear how it works out!
I'd suggest to install the latest cm11 nightly with boeffla kernel NG v2.12. Lollipop is quite memory intensive for S3. cm11 is relatively vanilla and kitkat runs well on s3. I'd also suggest using this profile: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57850654&postcount=1422 but make sure you reset LMK values after applying. And if I'm not wrong, I believe the deadline governor caters more for multitasking? Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Do you have greenify donation package with xposed? You have to equip these items on cm 12.1 greenifying all system and user apps except Google play services, media storage, contacts storage and your launcher. Always keep your apps fully greenified. Your problem is not that complicated. Just use this trick and your phone will fly. And as I said always keep the apps you don't need greenified.

Thank you so much all! I have greenify donation package and now on JellYbean 4.3 I have xposed module too. I greenified most of the apps and it is much more better but still launcher loads widgets and shortcuts after coming back to homepage. However I haven't experienced crash on other apps like in Lollipop ROMs. Actually at this moment I am so confused about which version to flash because from one side I want to use the latest stable Android build Lollipop on the other side I want a stable and fast phone. With Lollipop ROMs it seems not probable. Does Xposed module works without problem on Lollipop ROMs? If yes which xposed installer should I flash. I have tried BlissPop and Archidroid ROMs but not Resurruction Remix yet. I may want to give it a try. Also I want to try a clean Lollipop ROM without restoring the apps but just downloading them from Store. And just the essential ones not all the apps. I have approximately 140-150 Apps on my phone but just 6-7 of them are running all others are greenified. Does this still affect the Ram management? In my opinion the number of apps isn't important as long as there are enough space in internal SD card. Only the running apps are related to RAM management right? So it should not be a matter to have 25 or 250 apps in the phone. Only the running apps in background should affect the performance of RAM. Which ROM do you suggest and with which Kernel?
BlissPop,
ArchiDroid,
ResurrectionRemix,
Any KitKat ROM you offer,
Any Jellybean ROM you offer,
ArchiKernel,
Boeffla Kernel,
Which version of ROM and Kernel
I like the options in Blisspop to customise the ROM but I experience crash issues in almost every app after restoring 150-200 apps. Before restoring i didn't experienced issues but it didn't last long. I generally restore in 20 minutes after flashing a ROM.
Archidroid doesn't have customisation options in the ROM so generally it is my second option to give a try.
I flashed Resurrection Remix only one time 2 or 3 months ago and even though it was a full wipe install I couldn't start the phone with that version it was always in bootloop. So I never tried it again but I may give it a try if you suggest again.
Personally, I always prefered Beoffla Kernel (I don't find a spesific superiority) but for Lollipop it is end of devolopment and there is no stable one for Lollipop. I tried Archi Kernel for it but battery seems more consuming with it.
I believe now the problem isn't about a hardware 'cause the apps doesn't crash with Jellybean. Only they don't stay at memory after changing the apps. I mean multitasking isn't working properly and this should be because of the number of apps. What do you suggest for the apps I used. Is it heavy for S3. Nova Launcher, SwiftKey Keyboard, Jorte Calendar, Beautiful Widgets, Tesla Unread for Nova Launcher, Poweramp Music Player and system apps are running in the background and still phone says only 15 mb free ram. It is so weird how it is 15 mb. My Uncle has an Galaxy Ace 2 and it has about 570 Mb. it also has the same apps except for keyboard app but it has 100-150 mb of free RAM all the time and it is Android 4.1.1 version stock rooted.
How much RAM do the Android OS versions consume for the system?
I am so sorry for long replies. I want to solve this problems until I buy an LG G4 in a few months...
Waiting your comments... Thank you.
Mate in my opinion almost all of the latest lollipop rom builds are stable and perfect with greenify. I myself use Resurrection Remix rom and have no problem but if you don't like it you can try this too:

In the other hand tomorrow the first official cm 13 build will be released and as I tried the unofficial ones they were pretty flawless. You can wait and use them but if you hate bugs use cm 12.1 latest builds. About your launcher I only recommend stock Google now launcher. It is goddamn fast. Don't use nova or anything else, even trebechut is buggy and laggy. And keep in mind : never ever hibernate Google services app and Google now app this can make you slow!! And about kernel: no need for any custom one use the ones that come with the rom. Trust me it will work fine. And I Strongly recommend open gapps they are amazing: www.opengapps.org and don't worry you don't need to tweak anything just keep greenified I always have 300-400 free ram?

RAM problems with S3
Bogazicili90 said:

Hi, this is Mohand,
If you're on S3, then apply this procedure to the letter: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/development/rom-archidroid-v2-4-6-power-hands-t2354859
Unless you have hardware problems with your phone (as physical accident) you wouldn't experience any other issue with this custom rom: ArchiDroid-3.1.5
Why use Nova anyway? Stick to default launcher.
And you can use Dark Material for a change with an amazing set of layers.
Hi y'all,
Should be receiving my X829 from Banggood tomorrow, and trying to figure out what to do re: firmware. I'm a bit wary of the custom roms since it seems like each rom has its share of serious issues. I was going to go with small EUI, but apparently it now has bootloop problems?
Anyway, in the absence of a reliable custom rom, all I really want to do is a debloat of any spyware (including here apps that upload "market research data"). Are there any debloating guides floating around?
I've read that EUI has fine grained control of app permissions. Does this include being able to restrict app internet access, and does this control extend to the LeEco apps and other bloatware installed on the phone by default?
I have not seen a good debloat guide but I'm sure your x829 is going to come with some sort of vendor ROM already ( US? ) .
I just wanted to comment on the stability of all the LOS 13, AOKP, and RR builds ( MM ), I would say are all stable and ready for every day use. Some of the N builds are excellent and just waiting for LeEco to release N . :good:

My impression was that even if they are stable, they are missing some substantial functionality? VoLTE seems to be a problem for most roms (though it's fixed in some), none of the Nougat roms seem to have the cameras working (a significant issue that would prevent me from considering such roms functional, let alone excellent), and (all?) of the non-EUI based roms require the use of a certain camera app to get camera functionality?
I'd very much like to be informed I'm wrong haha!

There is a VoLTE patch floating around, my carrier doesn't support it so I haven't used it.... The camera issues have been solved in most MM builds, but not N builds. The FooteJ camera app work around was just a temp way around the problem that persisted, but now I use it in place of stock because I liked it so much
My suggestion is to try them. Super easy to unlock/root/add custom recovery, Especially if your looking for a smooth clean OS.
EUI is packed with bloat and ad on , I don't like it.
There are 6 apps on chinese 23s rom. I don't use them and they don't cause any issues. They are in my app draw as I use nova launcher so don't see them.
I tried most of custom roms but find stock more stable and it works OK apart from Gmail notification but I use BlueMail from playstore which works perfect. No real need to de bloat to be honest.

So I got my Banggood X829. As far as I can tell, there are no chinese apps, and only two leeco apps: LIVE and My LeEco. All the GApps are there as the default. Everything worked out of the box, so I've just decided to restrict the permissions of the LeEco apps, and installed Nova.
The launcher was bad (no app drawer!, ughh), but the other aspects of EUI are pretty nice. In particular, the the app switching button on default Android is an incredible waste of space that's hard to navigate through. The way it's implemented in EUI is both more user friendly, and putting media and settings shortcuts there is a more efficient use of space than stock.
I imagine there'll be no OTA updates, so I think I'll just stick with stock EUI until someone gets a Nougat ROM with the camera working.
Won't be any updates on that vendor rom if same as mine from Banggood. The updater app was removed on mine. Got rid of it for a newer stock rom immediately.
Hey.
This has been happening for a while, at first with Lineage OS (the last Oreo build before they stopped development), my phone had random shutdowns, GCam lagged a ton, demanding apps like Games or Photo editors (Cytus 2 or Snapseed for example) just didn't work right, they froze for a full 5 seconds, Social Network apps didn't work right either, I had to use Lite versions of their apps to make it less stressful to use.
I got back to MIUI but with Xiaomi.eu's ROM and I loved it, but it had some problems too, and I really hated that I wasn't able to experience newer androids, and I missed GCam a lot, so I went and Installed Pixel Experience, and it was laggy too, nearly unusable in every situation, it freezes at most of the apps I tried and it didn't work really well. Finally, I'm with Havoc OS, and I love it, but is UNUSABLE outside of a Wi-Fi network, when outside it doesn't just lags, it freezes, does random reboots, and also my headphone jack doesn't work so I can't even listen to music while having the phone on my pocket, it just does a blank noise when tapping some buttons.
I'm sick of my phone being too slow with every custom rom that I install, and I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, of I have some strange firmware or whatever it is, I don't know.
I have TWRP updated, I installed every rom on a clean state, wiping everything.
My phone is a kenzo 2GB variant.
Please help me, I really want to listen to music while browsing Instagram again, now I can't even do one of these things..

try LiquidRemix or go back to Oreo Rom
Hey mate. Try this Lineage OS 14 https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/development/rom-lineage-os-t3877377/
I also have 2GB variant of RN3Pro and I also tried so many roms that promise speed. But to be honest everything past Nougat is unusable. The combination of Google service eating tons of rams and the OS itself taking more space in your ram ended up costing a lot of performance.
That Lineage OS 14 is the current best for me, it supported a lot of new features (splitscreen, better GCam) while remains low in RAM usage. Good SOT too, still managed to squeze 5+ hours of SOT (but that's probably because my Radon kernel setting).

Pie getting 6+ of SOT very easily. I m using Crdroid with shadow. Now dev has provided xcrima and shadow kernel with default enabled 500mb + zram for 2gb ram. So its relief.
I was having the same issue, every rom didn't had a near good experience of use for me, so I started searching and I've found microg, which is an alternative for google apps, but using much less ram.
So what I did was installing nanodroid-microg, and one of the stores that comes with the package(in my case, Yalp Store, but according to their wiki, you can install google playstore also.), Now I have about 1gb ram free (I'm also using AppOps to block some app permissions like wake lock, run in background etc.), but I had some problems so I will show you what I did to install it and make it fully work.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/module-nanomod-5-0-20170405-microg-t3584928
Firstly you have to download two of their stable release packages, one is nanodroid-setupwizard and the other is the nanodroid-microg.
Then you will flash the rom you want, the kernel you want, magisk and finally both packages, first the setupwizard, then the microg package.
There's no secret when flashing setupwizard, it's a aroma package which will give you steps to choose what you want to install, I remember choosing swype libraries, microg (of course), Yalp Store (with fakestore), Google Map API and UnifiedNlp location backends (Mozilla and Deja'vu)
After that, just flash nanodroid-microg and then follow the tuturial below starting from step 15
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/how-to/guide-microg-oneplus-6-source-ligthway-t3874469
Obs: at step 25: if your push notification tester app show you a error related to incompatibility or unavailability of google play services, you probably need to enable signature spoofing on FakeStore like I had to, I'm using aex 7.1 rom so I don't know if the steps will be the same for you but what I did was: go to settings > apps > tap setting button on the top right corner > app permission > signature spoofing > tap three dots on the top right corner > show system > then enable FakeStore. After that try step 25 again and proceed.
I hope it helps you or anybody reading this which choose to install it. Enjoy and I'm sorry for any grammar mistakes.
Your best bet at speed is an old nougat ROM and a swap memory. Format ur internal storage before flashing.
I've installed aosp pie on 3gb and it's very good. Maybe 1gb ram does make a big difference. Choose light os like lineage or Nexus

just flash android pie pixel experience (go edition)
https://download.pixelexperience.org/kenzo/
If you want to stay on pie. Try ArrowOs pie. It's the most smooth pie ROM I found for my 2gb rn3p. However the ROM is no longer being updated.
