When you call granny, does she keep saying "Huh?! Wut?!" or does the conversation flow pretty well? Rate this thread to express how you feel about the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4's call quality. A higher rating indicates that calls are clear and crisp, and that regardless of background noise, you can hear the other party clearly (and with ample volume) and they can hear you.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Below average mic is too low and earpiece is low
MTK version is excellent. Best I have experienced. SD version is ok too.
I have struggled alot with the call quality. Microphone sound is very low and clarity is also bad. Local and STD calls are still manageable but ISDs have pathetic sound clarity. Same situation on other phones like Moto X and LG Q6 have no problems at all.
Very bad.
those who I call complain of poor call quality especially when I am indoors. Outdoors it is usually clear. here is a link https://youtu.be/7pMAAP4h3fU I don't know if it's a software or hardware issue. I am using a redmi note 4 global version
very bad.. poor.....
Did anyone try to improve call quality by kernel/system/config?
For me (3/32 snap global) quality is normal. Ofc i had phones with better call quality.
Need to fix some strings of build.prop
Just change
Persist.audio.fluence*** to false
And
Ro.qc.voice*** to none
That's all

Could you tell me what excatly change in build prop?
Worst phone I ever had, poor call quality, other party can't hear me.
on MIUI based roms i have nothing to complain.
all went fine.
but on AOSP based custom roms, other party cant hear me unless i use speakerphone mode.
already comment and ask on the respected thread but no developers have answered my problem.
thinking of selling this phone and back to 3S Prime again ?

Edit build.prop file under /system.
Use any root explorer and you should have root access (super su or magisk)
Hope this helps.
Is call quality & reception really that bad ?
It's really crucial that I have good call quality in my line of work so that needs to be clarified

Thanks for any insights
@zacharias.maladroit No issues there it's comparable to any other phone i have used and mostly dependable on your carrier i'd say, homever i think it doesn't support HD Voice (3G tech) for some reason.

I need to know guys how I could get a better sound quality while recording video in a concert. Usually, while we're performing there's a guy filming with a professional camera but sometimes we don't get a copy of it. I want to have a personal video of us taken by my X10, so I ask a friend to record and I let him to use my phone.
The results of the video vary depending of the ilumination of the place. But sound results are terrible. Loud amplifiers, distortion in guitars etc. plus people cheering make only noise in the video and what I sing isn't understandable sometimes. So please, Im asking if there's any way to get better sound in an environment like this.
Thanks in advance.
Are you using eclair? Or froyo? Well the original Sony firmware has better camera drivers plus it also supports HD recording. I would suggest you to use that. The sound quality is pretty good.

Im using Eclair .435 Generic Global ROM, wich I think is still from SE, Im not using any custom ROM.
Ahem... Im talking about the sound quality. The video is just great, but the sound is horrible when recording with a lot of noise around.
Thanks.
Hey guys. I own a Samsung Galaxy S II and is currently running Resurrection Remix on it. I so cool rom, however I would very much like to improve the audio quality so I can hear better. Is there any way to tweak the quality? It is very important to me, since I have some hearing loss :-(

If you're running resurrection, try changing settings in dsp manager. You can select headphones, bluetooth and speaker settings and tweak different things there. Might help if you're using bluetooth / headphones.. Hope it helps!
Try a Music Player off the Play Store, PowerAmp is a good choice. Many different tweaks such as bass, treble, increased volume booster. Also try a different pair of headphones, maybe in ear ones that can produce a better quality sound than say open backed over ear headphones.

Hey guys
Thanks for your answer, but I'm talking about the call quality when speaking with others thru my phone
no help there? :/
Try the KH3 modem. It seems to be the best samsung could come up with. Has better call clarity and faster gps fix, does not heat up the phone compared to other modems.
You should really state what you are actually looking for in your first post. It could have meant audio quality out of the phones speaker, audio quality through headphones, or in your case, audio quality when speaking to somebody.
Anyway, as suggested, try a different modem. Here is a link to a thread with all modems: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131950
Modems work across all OS's so don't worry about matching them. I use the Baseband I9100NELP2, but what is good for me mightn't be good for you. The idea of modems is to test them for better signal, call quality, GPS, download speeds etc.
Chris.
I've read somewhere that AOSP offers worse sound quality than Sammy ROMs.
Something about AOSP not having access to Samsung drivers, which is the general argument people give for camera quality comparisons as well. The sound chip is from Wolfson, not Samsung though, so wouldn't that mean the sound would remain the same?
My question is not about the volume being low, or using equalizers, but on overall audio quality and fidelity when listening to music (eg.). Is there an audible difference between the ROMs or do they play back the same?

Why would you use those on a cellphone though?
Other than that, I have personally not seen any difference in sound quality. I have however noticed a slight buzzing sound when you have a high level of volume and a system sound is reproduced. Since system sounds usually have about a 3-second playback time and only half of that is the actual sound, I can hear some of the 'static'. Doesn't bother me too much.
Well, thanks for the reply anyhow

Use latest supported boeffla kernel (CM or Omni- depends on used rom), download Boeffla Config V2, go to sound engine, enable orchis audiophile and prepare to be amazed (or do your own tunning)

Hi,
You asked there that "Will the Sauron mod be able to fully utilize the AKM dac/amp of the Axon 7?"
Have you got confirmation, because I didn't find answer there.
If yes, could you please tell us in few sentenses what is the benefits of this mod from audiophile point of view. Just because any Nougat ROM sounds greatly. Thanks.

Hi! I haven't got any answer yet but if I would describe the sound I would probably say that the bass is tighter and less "all over the place". The vocals are more detailed as in it's easier to hear things such as the singer slightly swallowing some air. The highs I'm not to sure about but I will say that the detail is really good without any fatigue. I just started using the mod yesterday so I'm not completely sure about the difference but the noticable thing are what I wrote above and that it generally sounds "better".
I compare this mod with my HD 598 and on Lineage OS. With and without the mod.
If you look at the third post, looks like there's a mod that includes DAC support. It's not available yet but it was edited two days ago saying "Soon"

Thanks for your reply. Actually I thought different things, mainly technical related feature why mod would make sound quality more clear, than the factory. Is there any DAC related parameter or else what can be set or change? Or anything else what you think can be useful to understand what is the benefit of this mod.

This mod isn't made for Axon 7.
It aims to provide adjustments for Qualcomm, Exynos and Mediatek devices with default/integrated DAC.
There's zero mods for Axon 7 audio yet...

How do you know? It does something to sound at least because it doesn't sound the same without the mod. And also AudioFX doesn't effect the sound with the mod enabled.
Yes, it seems to change it. Still audio is the big disappointment for me on this phone. With my best iems I sometimes I prefer the sound of my tab s2...

Because our device needs specific changes.
That's why took so long for a proper sound under LOS and AOSP ROMs.

Yes but there could be changes that don't affect the hardware side of things but the software. For example it could do something with the outputted data from let's say Spotify.

I would really like some input on what the mod actually does as well.
One observation on what it does, apart from the subjective experience of how it sounds:
I was trying out new stock version B02 for G.
With sauron installed, and playing through USB Audio Player Pro with bit perfect checked (not sure if this makes a difference when only playing through phone...) there is no difference between ordinary sound and hi-fi sound in settings.
If I uninstall sauron there is a difference again.
With sauron it sounds like an improved version of the non hi-fi setting, which is good I think, since as the hi-fi setting mostly seem to make the sound a bit v shaped, with increased and bloated bass.
// And... When playing through tidal app, with S installed, there IS a difference between hi-fi setting and non hi-fi, and interestingly the difference is much larger than it is without sauron, like two different types of sound, and the non hi-fi sound closer to what you get with UAPP, but UAPP improves it a bit.

The point is: the files needed to make a difference in this modification are left untouched by these "tweaks".
The .so for AK, for example...
What it does we can do by just disable SoundFX under settings/apps.
You should try
Does this mod break The Dolby atmos Feature like The arise sounds does?

Hi everybody,
Been using Redmi Note 4x for about 10 months now, and I love the phone in every way except the audio quality. Since I don't care much about the speakers, I am referring to the audio quality from the headphone jack.
I will try my best to articulate the problem so that you can understand my frustration. I would like to know: 1) Anybody else facing this? 2) Any sustainable solution?
Before Redmi Note 4, I have used a Moto G(2nd gen) & Moto X Play, and both had pretty standard audio quality, which is to say: Basic, Clean & Enjoyable. I use a Soundmagic ES18 (which is PRETTY Good, and gives a V-shaped clean sound output, very enjoyable).
Redmi Note 4 is just different in terms of sound, I don't know what or why, but after 5-10 minutes of listening, my entire body starts feeling irritated, almost as if I have been getting very mild electric shocks. Needless to say, as far as music is concerned, I am a very unhappy customer. I love music, and I just have not been able to enjoy. Plus, I don't know if my eardrums have been damaged in any way (i listen at very moderate/low levels).
I am trying to understand, is this something wrong with my particular set? If so, I have some time left in warranty to get it fixed. But if it is the sound signature of Mido in general, then has anybody come up with any solution to this? Mi Forum seems to suggest many other users complaining about the same thing, even though people describe it differently.
As I mentioned, the music listening experience is one of physical irritation. GSM Arena shows how Mido has a clean output, though it is very soft from the headphone jack. Since I use V4A, I boost the playback gain, so that is not the issue, the issue is that something about the sound signature is such that music is not enjoyable. Treble seems unnecessarily sharp, Bass feels unnecessarily synthetic & bloated, Mid-range is too harsh, and therefore, overall, the audio output is really bad, to me.
My girlfriend has the Redmi 3s, my father has the Redmi 4x (from my recommendation), and I have a MiPad. My girlfriend's and father's phones have a pretty enjoyable sound signature, so does my tablet, even though my tablet has a softer sound output, but none create any irritation. I have tested the sound from all these devices with the same earphone (ES18), and without turning on any EQs. These Xiaomi devices have a little different sound from my Moto devices, but still very enjoyable. Mido, however, is really bothering me.
Please feel free to engage with me. I am only looking to confirm what is the issue, and find out potential solutions. Please help me to enjoy music on this phone...
Thanks & Regards
Hi man! I've experienced the same issues...i didn't find a way to obtain a good quality sound. The best solution for me is to:
-try to have flac songs with high quality
-Use dolby Atmos (discovered in mi-globe rom v 9.5)
-modify the mixer.paths.mtp.xml file to increase maximum volume (i had a very low sound, with my headphones on and max volume set i can heard people talk around me)
But these are just "tricks"...i think that the hardware is the real problem!
