i got unlocking permissions after like 20 min but when i try to unlock it says couldnt unlock after 72 hours of trying to unlock the device what does this even mean is there a bypass

There's no bypass ?
And.. Yeah, you've to wait few days..
Try binding your Mi account using fly VPN (Shanghai server) connected. You'll get an error while binding ignore it..
Now wait 3-5 days, then try unlocking.

unable to add via fly vpn as there is no Chinese option there. still after 5 days nothing happening same 99 pct account binding bug

This is worst metohd of bootloader unlocking but best under terms of development under 13k

Afaik, you'll get an error to bind your account while you unlock bootloader with newer tools. So, try binding it, ignore if you see any errors.

made my request yesterday, today i got the permission and tried it. then i got the error with 30 hours. as i´ve seen in several fora, it seems that u need your account for a little time to be able to unlock the bootloader, even when you got your request. so tomorrow (30) after i got the error, i will try it again and hopefully it´s going to work

86012 error while binding account
Can anyone help me with this 86012 error? I get when i try to bind my MI account in Settings>Additional Settings>Developer Mode>Mi Unlock Status. I got permission to unlock yesterday and when I tried unlocking my bootloader via the app it is stuck at 99% error is Current Account Is Not Bound To This Device. Can anyone help me in this regard? Any help would be highly appreciated.

If you go through the thread you will find many users have gone through the phase you are currently going through . The only solution , as they say, is to WAIT . This is my first xiaomi device and its very much pain this way to unlock . I am also waiting btw for unlocking my device . Haha hope to get it unlocked by 12 August .

Mi Co. had fix bug like you could unlock your device at the moment of you got the permission by using Unlock Tool underV1.0.BUUUUT!,If you had unlock another device before,you can login in that accout in your new phone,and use the newest version of unlock tool immediately.

Okay, I'm pretty sure it's because their English isn't very good. It means you have to wait 72 hours AFTER getting permission, (i.e., try again in XX hours) before you can unlock. It's like a cooling off period in case the phone has been stolen or like if you buy a gun, you have to wait 72 hours before they give it to you.
