How to install Xposed or flash a custom ROM? - Fire HD 6 and 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm rooted on FireOS 5.4.0.0, and I want to either install Xposed (which I've never done before) or install a custom ROM. Are there any unofficial builds of lineage for this decide, or Resurrection Remix, or something?

How did you get root on 5.4? I've tried almost everything, but nothing will work

You have to downgrade the OS, root, flash twrp, flash 5.4, then flash the stock bootloader. There's a guide in this forum. I can try to write up a clearer one soon, I had to dig through the replies to find clearer instructions.

So I know what I'm doing with everything but the downgrade... how would I do that? Is there a tool for it similar to Root Junky's super tool, or something else noob friendly? Also thanks for the quick reply.

There's a link in the thread I mentioned that has the older OS to download. If I remember correctly, you have to wipe the device and then flash the older OS. Check that thread, all the details and instructions are there

Install CM10 with TWRP?

Hello!
I just got home with my bright and shiny Note 2. A few things, such as the gray status bar, have made me decide to root and install a custom ROM. This is something I haven't done since the OG Moto Droid. I stupidly accepted the recent OTA without thinking about it, but I found AdamOutler's CASUAL method for getting passed this. The description and video posted to the thread seem very straight forward. When you're done, you have a rooted phone with TWRP installed.
My question is... can you then install CyanogenMod 10 with it? The CM site talks only about using CWM as far as I can see. I just want to make sure I will be able to install it before I follow the CASUAL method.
Thanks

Right. My bad.

[Q] Completely new to LG, need some advice

I'm a veteran of the HTC phones (and at least used to Samsung devices), but my friend wants his G3 to have a custom ROM on it. So I start looking around threads, and I didn't find any straightforward instructions on someone starting out.
Do I need to be S-Off or unlock a bootloader or anything like that? Or do I just grab the custom recovery and ROM, adb the recovery, and install the ROM? Everything I see just says to install the ROM from TWRP and go, but that's not very helpful unfortunately. He's on the latest LP ROM and firmware from Verizon, and I did at least see that this won't be a problem (unlike other devices where newer firmware can sometimes cause unlock issues. I'm probably going to install the Jasmine ROM on his phone to keep it relatively stock for him.
I'll take directions or even just a link if somebody has one handy. Thanks ahead of time for the help

Best/easiest option,
Downgrade to 12b using kdz
Root w/new root method
Flash twrp (adb, flashify, or dd)
Flash jasmine L Rom base
Flash jasmine L small upgrade builds if available
Profit!
Most links can be found in op 2 of my Reference sticky in the Verizon general forum.

Kenzo bootloop problems, any new rom

Hi Guys and greetings from the UK,
Recently i flashed the latest RR, Nitrogen and Pure roms and none of the boot. I'm just wondering if this is down to the unofficial bootloader unlock method. Could somebody either confirm or refute this please?
What options to i have to use the latest roms if it is to do with the BL?
Many thanks

Simply flash Citrus and enjoy your phone. It will work on unofficially unlocked bootloader and is bug free:

Goodix support was added in the most recent update.
It's CAF based, so Citrus will give you better and more stable signal than AOSP or LineageOS based ROMs
Hi i have flashed the rom and it wont boot im afraid. I just have the lemon/lime logo. Same as all the other roms.
Any idea?
Do i need a specific recovery?
I followed the instructions.
If i flash custom kernel do i do this before or after the ROM?

At first make a backup of your working ROM in TWRP (I think we can skip that step in your case)
Wipe Data/System/Internal Storage/Dalvik and Cache
Install ROM, install GApps (Android 7.1 - 64 Bit)
Reboot to System
First reboot can take 5 - 10 minutes, so don't give up if the lemon appears on your screen. Just wait a few minutes.
Everything will be working out of the box. If for some reason you want to try different kernels, just reboot to recovery, flash the kernel of you liking and reboot.

Hmmm,
Thanks for helping me, i must say. Nothing seems to be working for me. I've done as you described exactly and it just isn't booting.
I've been flashing roms forever on multiple handsets so i am very used to doing this. it just seems that no matter what i try, no matter what rom they refuse to boot.
I have to go back to an older rom or restore from twrp
I'm going to start again and follow your instructions step by step again.
Then im going to allow it 30 minutes to boot.
I will let you know.

One last idea would be to update your firmware before flashing the ROM. You will find it here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/how-to/cm14-14-1-aosp-n-firmware-kenzo-kate-t3507789
Flash firmware, wipe, flash ROM, flash GApps, reboot
Ok i will try this if the long wait method doesnt work
Ok its just started to boot. the time is 11:50 - i will leave it until 12:20
Ok so its 12:20 and its still on the lemon/lime screen. Ill try your firmware idea now.
Nope. it wont allow me to flash the citrus rom with the older cm 14 firmware.
Hi again.
No its still not booting even with new FW. Ill try the older firmware from your link and tell you how i get on.
Still not working, unable to flash with older fw
I'm going back to my old rom

Your problem is probably lp bootloader. You need to be on mm bootloader to flash latest nougat roms.
Your options.
1. Best option: flash latest global dev rom in fastboot and unlock officially.
2. Try unofficial way if for some reason official unlock didn't work : http://en.miui.com/thread-345728-1-1.html

You've basically answered your own question when you tried it and it didn't work.
Follow what JLius said or if you don't want to download large files you can try the "(experimental)updated method" posted here. Do note that I don't know if it would work if you're already unofficially unlocked as I've tried that with locked bootloader. I can guarantee it works(as in you can flash latest ROMs as long as you have 7.5.4 firmware and above) on Kate although some kenzo users stated that it worked on them.
I wonder why this isn't causing more problems for other people. I fail to believe that i'm the only person using an unofficially unlocked boot loader.

You're welcome.
I am not rude. Try answering the same questions 10 times a day for 60 days. I think I'll stop doing that, let someone else do it or let 'm figure it out for themselves.
"Do yourself a favor and do as I told you."
This is rude. Plain and simple. There is no sentence you can now string together which will make that any less rude either.
I suggest that if you are getting frustrated by helping people, stop doing it. I don't want to feel guilty about asking for help if that's all the same to you.
Belittling people you don't know isn't an admirable trait.
Either way i thanked you for your help, lets leave it at that.

Noob trying to flash lineage 14.1 on 3 pro, please help

Hi,
So for the past 2 days I've been trying to flash mentioned lineage 14.1 on my redmi 3 pro (https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-3/development/rom-cyanogenmod-14-0-t3481701), but I've been unsuccessful so far.
I've got unlocked bootloader, and got stuck on installing TWRP on my device with the help of "Minimal fastboot and ADB". This is the error message I'm getting:
booting...
FAILED (remote: dtb not found)
I don't know what I'm doing wrong, if I'm downloading wrong twrp iso or something wrong with adb syntax.
Also, I'd like to ask, I seen something mentioned about dm-verify, do I have anything to worry about if I'm running MIUI 8 7.6.8 weekly (I think it's dev/beta flashed with MiFlash).
Please try to point to me to VERY detailed complete guide, or please help me go through the process itself.
Hi,
Did you download the correct TWRP version?

I'm not even sure right now, and can't find the source anymore, as I didn't put it into bookmarks.
Can you point me to the correct twrp version?
Also, is the china dev rom flash necessary, or can I just begin flashing lineage from this ROM i have right now?

Ok, so I followed this guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-3/how-to/aggregate-detailed-unlock-permission-t3498493 to get it working, except i had to flash china dev rom with fastboot, and had to adb flash recovery twrp since i messed up and tried to boot to os with only twrp installed.
Since it's working for now, I want to ask, what should I know about, and are there some things I should avoid doing?

I could not find the
GSI "Starter Pack" (From Google) from this link.
Could you please be more specific and tell us which GSI will work (Android 12, 11, or 10, and ARM64+GMS, ARM64, x86_64+GMS, or x86_64.). Thanks.
I want to unlock my bootloader and root my 3 iii but I have read something about needing to back up and restore DRM keys otherweise some camera features and other stuff wont work anymore. Is that something that needs to be done on this phone and also, what exactly is the GSI stuff? It looks like that is an entire rom or something. Do we need to flash/install that? I am fine with the stock firmware. Im out of my element with this Sony stuff.

Hey, the "Starter Pack" is just another Name for the Google Zip which includes GSI and vbmeta. We are on ARM64 and GMS means GApps are included. Please read a bit about how Treble and GSIs are working and start from there. x86_64 btw. is the Dekstop Platform (Like Intel or AMD PCs). Basic knowledge
Don't want to make this an Info/Wiki Thread or so...

That Informations are old and obsolete. Hardware works just fine after unlocking (On all Xperias since 2019), DRMs can be restored like i wrote in the Guide. We are using OLED HDR Displays. So don't care about Bravia or such stuff. Only Netflix and Video Enhancements aside from the Creator Mode are not working if unlocked. But AOSP is here and ROMs are also coming based on SODP and AOSP (With Mainline Kernels (Or GKI)) Please also read about Treble and GSIs before You start! It's a thing since Android 8 on all Android Devices. So it will be good to know! GKIs are also coming to all Android Devices soon...

You can try to use another (EU/US) Firmware with NewFlasher but no warranty that it will work @nchmaster
You should check the Basebands compatibility before so make sure You're flashing a Firmware that works with Your Countries Bands.

Perfect. I tried to ask that before and was just told to read up on GSI. That wasnt any real help to my question. lol I was looking it over and it looked like it was a really vanilla version of android more less for app developers so I was c onfused if it was in fact needed to simply root the phone.

I asked what it was exactly and do we need to install it for the root process. By the way, it is not needed for the rooting process. I have successfully rooted the phone so thank you for the tutorial.
Just a suggestion, you should maybe add that after you flash the edited boot image to A and B and you reboot the phone, you will have to reinstall Magisk just to save some possible confusion as its no longer installed from being wiped during the bootloader unlock process.

GSI means General System Image. Systems are the Main OS You are using. Flash a GSI and it isn't Stock anymore... Don't replace the System If You want to keep Stock!
