Sprint S7 Hotspot Mods, how is the data counted? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Of the various ways to modify the S7 to provide access to the Hotspot feature, after modification does the Hotspot use the phone's data from the unlimited plan, or does the data continue to be distinguished as Hotspot data usage?
The reason I ask is that Sprint already provides access to the Hotspot, but only provides 10Gb and then throttles it to worthless 2G speed thereafter. Phone data is unlimited LTE however. THANKS

[Q] How to enable tethering and 3G switch on AT&T

I am suffering a case of search block - I am betting this has already been asked and hopefully answered.
1. I want to enable tethering without a tethering plan. I know all the warnings, but on occasion find this useful. Never more than a few minutes at a time. I don't want a tethering plan because I am unlimited now, though I will switch if they get me. Did this with WP7, are the instructions the same? link?
2. I really would like to reenable the switch that allows me to disable LTE. I find that LTE drains the battery too fast and if I am somewhere and need to squeeze a little extra out of the battery... particularly if on the edge of the LTE coverage area... don't get why at&t disables this ability.
Thanks!
Tethering plan? US carriers...
I think under settings > cellular there are new settings to "add internet apn" & "add mms apn". Not sure if you manually enter your APN, if it will create a new entry with default settings and allow tethering.
Warning: I have not tried this and it might not work and/or break your stuff requiring a reset.

APN and tethering are two separate things. AT&T puts a lock on the tethering where it "Phones" home to see if you have the plan. SO changing apn WONT work
I don't care about the tethering part since I have the shared data family plan that includes tethering, but I am interested in being able to disable LTE.
At work, I'm in a fringe area, so it'll keep switching between LTE and 4G. It gets full 4G bars but will hover around 0-1 LTE bars.
After the Portico update, ##3282 will get me into the data menu which has some settings to force 2G, 3G, and 4G, but I don't see anything that would disable LTE. If I force "3G", would it actually do "4G" since its all HSPA+?

http://forums.wpcentral.com/nokia-lumia-920/203675-turn-off-4g-lte-t-lumia-920-a.html This link gives all the information for turning off LTE. Since HSPA+ is actually just enhanced 3G signal, forcing 3G will still let you receive HSPA+ or what AT&T calls "4G"

would love to find out if there is a way to prevent it from "phoning home". or even a way to redirect to another server that can give the proper "ok" to use tethering. It seems ridiculous that there isn't some way to go around this at&t check.

Well, yes you are sill paying for hotspot. fYou need to download an app from google play that says it was designed for free tethering on rooted phones. But it will still use data from your plan.
Rooting won't magically give you unlimited data. It just allows you root level (adminstator) privileges.
Sent from my GT-N7005 using xda premium
All rooted tethering apps I've seen are meant to provide a hotspot capability that leverages your existing data plan. This allows you to avoid whatever your carrier would charge over and above your existing data plan to provide you with a hotspot capability.
For instance, I have an unlimited data plan with AT&T. If I went through my carrier to hotspot through my phone, I'd have to pay $50/month for 5GB of hotspot data. Rooted tethering apps allow me to turn my phone into a hotspot using my unlimited data plan and avoid the additional carrier costs for the same capability.

Roms with wifi calling and unlimited tethering?

I'm looking for a rom that has wifi calling enabled, carrier iq removed, and unlimited tethering from tmobile. This rom seems to have unlimited tethering assuming it hasn't been broken for some reason which a lot of threads seem to be reporting (various threads say tmobile updated something and now unlimited tethering is broken in a lot of roms): http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo.../rom-twi5ted-lollipop-5-0-v1-deviant-t3037766
It doesn't mention carrier IQ being removed though and I know others have said wifi calling isn't supported by that rom. Does anyone know if that rom has carrier IQ removed?
Is there a rom that supports wifi calling, has carrier IQ removed, and supports unlimited tethering? If that rom has carrier IQ removed, I'll probably use it and just give up on trying to find a rom with wifi calling.
How do you check if a rom supports unlimited tethering? Is there a tethering data count somewhere that you can check and make sure it isn't counting against the 5gb limit tmobile has on unlimited plans? I'm coming from a nexus 4 and never had to worry about tethering restrictions on that device so I'm not sure how I would even check if it's counting against my tethering limit.
I did find this tethering fix which I would try applying if for some reason it isn't working in that Twi5ted rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2716815&page=4
I'm using twi5ted lollipop on MetroPCS unlimited plan, and only get the up sell page if I don't use a VPN or I dont change my user agent Id.
and I don't have a tethering on my account at all, make sure your APN is ipv4 not ipv6

[Q] mobile hotspot?

i switched around my at&t unlimited plan. it now comes with 10GB of mobile hotspot data.
my question is with my rooted phone and custom rom (viperonem9) with a mobile data hotspot hack. will it use my unlimited data or will it use my 10GB of hotspot data? im trying not to get charged for overages...
It'll still use your data I believe.. There is no fix for whats used...Only the ability to use tethering if it's not on account...

Using hotspot on Metro without detection?

I've recently changed to Metro from Cricket and my plan currently allots me 10gb a month for wireless hotspot. On cricket, I didn't have a hotspot service but I used the net.tethering.noprovisioning=true line to enable my phone's native hotspot and get it working.
However using the same method, I've noticed that my hotspot allotment has been going up and I normally use 25gb a month on cricket. Is there any way to get around this limit, or to hide my hotspot usage altogether? I use hotspot on my PlayStation to game as there are no good internet providers in my area.
