Greetings,
About a day or two ago, I noticed that my alarm (Gentle Alarm) stopped working, meaning that the app seemed fine but the scheduled alarm time would come and go with nothing happening. Thinking it was an app issue, I tried several other alarm programs, including stock Clock, with the same result. No alarms actually went off. I have a ZTE Axon 7 running 7.1.1 stock on T-mobile.
It gets weirder. The same behavior began at the same time on my girlfriend's phone—Samsung (S4 or S5) with stock Lollipop (not sure of version number) on Verizon. I mean, we both tried a bunch of different clock apps, set alarms, and watched the times come and go with no actual alarm.
Needless to say, up until a couple days ago, we had no issues with alarm apps. Neither of us has updated the OS in that time period (or recently at all). We've both updated and installed some apps, but there was no overlap between us, so there didn't seem an obvious app that could be causing issues.
Also, a few other weird symptoms have shown up in the same time period; no idea if this is related in any way, but here goes. On the Axon, when I try to install from Play I get 100% downloaded and then...nothing. When I reboot the phone, I have a notification that the new app is installed. Also over the last couple of days I keep getting repeat notifications for things that are hours old. For example, I have gotten the same Facebook notifications several times over the course of 8 or 10 hours, and as I went to bed last night around midnight I was still getting MLB At Bat notifications (score changes, etc.) for the game I listened to mid afternoon.
On the Samsung, my g/f is sending texts that her phone reports as undelivered even after I (and others) have read and responded to them. The texts themselves seem to be very delayed in going out.
And to reiterate, all these issues have cropped up just in the last couple days on both phones. It would seem a virus might explain things; on the other hand I haven't used any public WiFi in that time period (or recently at all), all my downloads have been through Play and not of any (what I would consider) suspicious apps, and I run Lookout to scan all my app installs. As for my g/f, I think all she has done is update a few apps from Play that she has used for quite a while, and I don't think she has used a public WiFi, either.
I appreciate any help you can offer. We had to resort to using her work iPhone as an alarm clock this morning, which is just mortifying.
Thanks,
CJW

Strange behavior last few days. I rooted with success a few days ago. Then I started deleting bloat and "other" software such as media hub and such that sounded like bloat. I'm not sure if it had anything to do with it, probably, but my desktop clock launches and everything is correct, but the time doesn't advance. The alarm works though. I installed two other night clock and they both work and work properly on my Droid X, but when launched, the time does not advance. 4 hours later and the time is still the same as when I launch the application.
Any suggestions before I re-write the phone back to stock and take hours to reload my 16gb of apps?
Mine is the Verizon Note 2 if it makes a difference. I'm rooted and use all the application on the side bar, wifi tether, root explorer, and ad block. No other tweaks.
The clock on the upper right of the display works.
Hello.
I've had my Motorola [Electrify] for about a year now, and a few months after getting it, started having problems with the camera, playing music, and not receiving notification sounds. For the camera, I it would look as though it was starting, and then go back to the home screen with a flash saying "Camera cannot initialize." (or something to that effect.) When I would try to play music, it would stop and say "Sorry, the play does not support this type of audio format." It was MP3. And I would sometimes not receive notification sounds. I have been researching and battling this issue for months when suddenly yesterday, I read that for people whose camera wouldnt work, they went into the main settings and clear data for the camera, and the gallery. It worked. Camera worked and so did playing mp3s. Well, today it started not working again. This time I only cleared data for the gallery, and again everything worked like it should. I did root the phone several months ago, using Photon Torpedo. First, I wonder if using that method, if I may have messed something up. Anyone hear of this sort of thing? But then again, I am sure I had problems with this before I rooted. Second, I wonder if anyone knows a specific correlation between malfunctions and the gallery app. Third, would freezing the gallery app with Titanium Backup cripple functionality of the phone/media, and would it work to keep these malfunctions from happening?
Sorry for being long winded, but hoping I'm on to something here.
Thank you.
I posted that a few days ago, but in a different forum, (wrong phone forum) but now today I find out that clearing data in gallery was only a temporary fix, as today it did not work. This is the second or third time I thought I found a connection, but was wrong. Does anyone else have this problem and come up with an actual fix? For the life of me, I cannot figure out what the root cause of this problem is. Thank you.
I haven't heard of it. Have you tried a factory reset?

Wifes photon doing exactly same thing. what apps you have installed. maybe we can narrow it down. I did a factory reset, flashed a different rom, then installed all her apps back on. worked correctly for 3 days then no notification sounds, camera wont open and can t veiw videos on facebook or youtube. reboot the phone and all is well for a few days then the problem comes back.
I hope someone can suggest some ideas. I've been trying for months to get the alarm notifications to work on my Verizon S3. I've spent hours and hours for month after month looking at the forums, and have not been able to fix it- I really, really would like to get this to work!
The problem is, I never get alarm reminders for either:
- time to leave/traffic alerts when I have upcoming appointments
- reminders based on location
I've tried everything I know of in the book- I need an expert to please help me get this working!!! Either I'm doing something really stupid and missing something, I have some setting(s) wrong, or Google Now is somehow broken for me. Sorry for the frustration...
I'm running a Verizon S3, with 4.2.1 and recently I rooted the phone (the notifications have not worked since before nor after the rooting- I did it for other reasons).
PLEASE HELP!!!
Please- any suggestions? I'm willing to start at the basics (in case I missed something) all the way to the complex. I really could use some advise on getting the alarms to work on Google Now notifications...
I've had the same thing happening for about 2 months now (from August 2013), and even with factory wipes and firmware flashes it hasn't come back to me. :/ It's worked once or twice but I haven't figured out if I had done anything before hand to get it back. Then afterwards it stopped working again.
Same for me yet. I've hard reset both my S3 and my Nexus 7, and not luck. Rarely do I get any notices, and if I happen to, it's not at the right time. Must be on Google's end on my account or something. Very, very disappointing, with little hope if it's not specific to the device...
Me too! Try this....

Also happening to me on my Note 3 t-mobile. I have flashed many roms. I even reverted back to stock, and did an OTA update to 4.4.2 and so forth.
The only thing that made a difference was if I sign in to Google Now using my backup Google account, then IT WORKS! So I think that Google is having problems on the back end. There is absolutely no difference between my Google accounts. Why would one work and one not work? I've been posting it all over the web and Google tech support. You should too!
Solution Found
I found a solution to the problem. After being a die-hard advocate for Android, I gave up about 6 months ago and bought an iPhone. It works wonderfully, and does everything it's supposed to, when and where it is supposed to. Reception and voice recognition are better than my S3 was too. I've given up a few things (customization, screen size, etc.), but I finally have a phone that just works. I can add apps, delete them, change settings, etc., and things don't get screwed up; and I don't have to hard reset and start over with my phone again. Plus, most of the Google apps are available on the iphone, including Google Now.
I may look at Android again when version 5.0 comes out; but even with that, if it's my account that's messed up, I doubt I will ever get it fixed...
I really liked Android, but I finally got soooo tired of having to spend so much time getting it to work...
Google now reminders not working possible solution
Okay so I purchased a phone LG G Flex unlocked from T-mobile and using on Metro PCS two weeks ago, prior to this phone I had a Note 3 and used Google Now to set remianders with no problems. When I activated my FLEX and started using google now it did not remind me, i could see the reminders on google cards but no notification and or finger with string in the notification bar to actually remind me. I was really bummed and fustrated as I depend on the reminder function alot. Not having any luck getting Google Now remainders to work I started searching for other apps simular to it, just something to remind me. But funny enough all the others application I found on the app store would do the same thing NO reminders, so I started thinking it may not actually be Google Now but something on my phone. I finally found an application called Robin that did work but gave me my reminders about 2 or three mins before or after the set time, nevertheless it was working but early or late notifications still bothered me. So i decided to turn off the automatic time zone/Network provider time and Automatic date and time/Network provided time and that did the trick for me. I started up Google Now and set like a hundred reminders to test it and they all came in on time. I dont know if the phone being unlocked and used on another network made the network time buggy but as long as I keep the automatic date and time off it works well. I dont know if this is the solution for everyone but it was for me. hope this help.
Fantastic and detailed reply- thanks!
I also switched phones, now I'm on a LG G3 (love the phone)! I seem to be getting almost all of my notifications now, but I'll try to pay a little more attention to it, and keep your suggestion in mind if I'm having any troubles. Thanks again for the information!

Can Google now show reminders while offline? I know I cant set or delete a reminder offline. But can it remind for an already set reminder offline?
For the past month or so texts and g-mail are not the sound I've used for a long time. It's now a simple, soft, two-note da-dung. Even though I've re-checked several times and re-applied the mp3s that we want, the apps refuse to play the chosen notification anymore. This is not just my rooted, s-off M-8. Our second M-8 that is still under warranty totally stock ATT 5.02 also has it's alarm sometime go off with this sound.
There is only one change to both phones preceding this issue that is a common denominator. We both switched to the Android clock for our alarms when HTC ruined their alarm clock a while back. The android alarm lets us choose if we want a start up quiet alarm and we don't. Neither of us has ever used this new sound for anything.
So this issue with the soft pleasant sound did not start until a couple weeks after we put the new alarms on our phones. I've actually considered totally wiping my my phone and sd card and starting over from scratch. I remember seeing that an update for HTC notifications & ______ something else had recently installed and that predates this problem.
Anybody else had this happen?
Hello everyone.
I'm running Xperia Z5 Compact (E5823) with Sony's latest stock Android for that device: v7.1.1 (32.4.A.1.54) and September 2017 security patches.
Some time ago I noticed that my alarm clock (I'm using 'AlarmDroid', always up to date) did not wake me up. After further investigation I noticed that the problem seems to be related with phone not being woken up by the alarm. For example the alarm can be set to run at 8am, but it does not go off. If I wake the phone up manually (press the power button or tap the screen) at 8.20am, the alarm is suddenly sound.
I thought: meh, probably the alarm app is bugged and it will be fixed soon. So I rebooted the phone (which made the problem go away for some time) and kept doing so every once in a while.
But lately the same problem occured to me with text message (sms) notifications. For example: I received a message an hour ago, but the notification went off only after I woke up the phone manually. (I'm using stock text message app for this Android version.)
Now these two issues are too much for me and I'd like to fix the problem ;D
After some googling I found that the similar problem occured to some devices running Android 8, but since I'm running Android 7 that would not be it. So far didn't encounter anybody having this exact issue on Z5 Compact.
Obviously if anything fails I could try reinstalling phone's software, but I'd like to try some less 'general' solutions first.
So my question is: has anyone encountered such issue and / or can suggest anything? Many thanks in advance!
Are you using any sort of battery-saving apps? Some work by preventing other apps from running in the background, which would break the functionality of an alarm clock app. Also, have you tried using the built-in alarm clock app? System apps may be more reliable, or just less easily interrupted by battery-saving apps.

No, I'm not using any of such apps. I'd like to add (if that makes any difference) that the issue also occured when the phone was charged to at least 50%, so was nowhere near battery saving mode (which in my case is configured to start when the battery goes below 15%.

No, I have not. Could surely do, but it would take at least few weeks to have any results. Plus I'm not sure the problem is related to the alarm app itself - as I mentioned the problem also occured with sms / text messaging app as well.
Had the same problem since day 1, no matter what app even the system alarm. The only thing that makes sure my alarm goes off at the set time is keeping it on charge...
