Reason - solution surrounding "Unfortunately, google " " has stopped working
Found the reason and the solution for Samsung GT-P5113
Reason: TWRP backup corrupts\removes\deletes the Google Play services and Google Play after the successful backup.
Solution: Don't use TWRP for backup at least not for this Samsung.
Backup was performed after a ROM flash and a GAPPS flash. Everything worked perfectly till I wanted to do a simple basic no frills backup using TWRP.
After reboot, as soon as I log in I start getting the "Unfortunately, ..." errors.
2 1/2 days of trying to get around this and no one on any site giving any solutions that worked for the last 3+ years. I noticed that a TWRP backup even before the GAPPS flash left me with a initial ROM flash that needed to go thru the setup all over again. That is when I started to look closer after TWRP backup and for those apps.
Both Google Play and Google Play services are no longer under APPS. They are now gone, at least for my tablet.
After seeing and associating this with TWRP backup, I purposely performed 3 clean flash\TWRP backups to test this theory. Sure enough. Every time after a TWRP back, reboot and login, the errors start coming and why..? Because the apps are no longer in APPs.
Yes I have the correct ROM (Beanstalk), GAPPS and TWRP! I also got this error with Marshmallow but will not go back and test. Spent way too much time on this. The chances are good this is the problem for that ROM and at least this tablet.
This custom ROM and TWRP has been out for how long and at least for this one tablet, not identified?
Attention: If you are getting these errors after a TWRP backup, go look to see if Google Play Services and Google Play are listed there under APPS after a shutdown\reboot.

Hi,
I am new to the forum and new to rooting/flashing mods as well. I have the AT&T version of the Galaxy S2. I just recently rooted and flashed the most recent CM9 nightly on my phone and everything worked great except a, what i hope to be, minor issue. When I first rebooted my phone after the flash, everything looked great but It was apparent my GAPPS zip had not installed correctly as I couldn't see my e-mail or the Play Store (obviously I'm needing to recover things). I re-flashed GAPPS, rebooted, and I saw the Play Store and my e-mail. My problem is when I opened the Play Store, it got stuck on the sign-in. It eventually signed in, I guess (my account has a check by it if I select "manage accounts"). SO, i'm signed in but nothing is loading. I cannot do any searches or retrieve apps. Baiscally, I can't use the Play Store. My phone works fine, otherwise, and it seems the rom flashed cleanly. I followed every instruction very carefully. Please help! I need to retrieve my backup from Titanium and use the market. Don't even have my wi-fi at this point! Thank you in advance if someone can respond quickly.

Post in Q/A subforum next time.
Try Settings -> Applications -> Google Play Store -> click both clear cache and clear data. If that doesn't work you could always try reflashing.
Now it's having trouble upgrading from "market" to "Play Store". When I go to settings > apps > running, it appears and disappears and I cannot edit anything in it =\. I just re-flashed and I did so without wiping data, is this correct? Should I move this to the sub-forum, or can you just help me out?
I would think a reflash without wipe should be okay, but who knows. I would say close the app manually, try clearing data and cache again, launch once, sign in when prompted and let it load the home page. Then exit the app and don't touch the app for a few mins. I've found that letting it settle by not touching it for a few mins as it tries to update will allow it to update correctly, you'll see the icon change to the play store. Again, if that doesn't work, then do a full wipe and flash again.
P.S. I'm no expert on this subject, just suggesting things to try.
So I have AOKP on my galaxy nexus 4.0.4. I made a back up and installed there JB AOKP to try it out. Lasted about 1.5 hrs. Then I restored with my CWR Backup. I made this back up on June 30. After I restored there was 3 apps thats didnt saw I purchased them when I did on friday. I have google checkout to prove it. I used titanium to restore the 3 missing apps but now in the play store it dont show them under MY APPS. Only when I search for them it shows them. What could cause this and how do I fix it? Theres no way I should have to buy them all over again. The werid thing is titanium worked fine and showed purchased in the play store but the other 3 apps didnt. Maybe its because I purchased titanium yesterday right before the i flashed JB AOKP. The other 3 were on friday.

go to titanium, and fix the market link of the three apps

just "buy" them again from market, you won't be charged a second time

I know this is kinda old but every time I try to download an app that I've purchased it doesn't show up as being purchased, and prompts me to buy it again. I tried just buying one of them again just to see what would happen and it gave me an error message saying I already owned the app, but it would not install. I've tried clearing cache/data, I've tried clearing the cache/dalvik cache via TWRP, I've tried installing an older version of Google play, I've tried clearing the cache/data for Google play services, I've tried factory resetting my phone twice, I've tried remotely installing the apps through Google play on a computer (it just says an unexpected error has occurred) I've tried deleting my Google account from the device and signing back in, and absolutely nothing seems to work. I'm on a OnePlus 5 running OxygenOS 5.1.1 (Android version 8.1) and I'm rooted using Magisk. I'm gonna try wiping the phone and reflashing the OS later today so I'll let you know how that goes but any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

What worked for me with a similar issue was removing Google play store completely (with a root file manager or in twrp), reboot and then flash gapps again. After that the play store was working fine again.
P.s. the path to play store is /system/priv-app/phonesky
At least on my Android 8.1 device.

I just tried that, and when it didn't work I went through with re-flashing the operating system all together and I'm now running stock and it's STILL not working so I'm officially at a loss... Thank you for your suggestion though I actually hadn't thought of that.
I have tried all the fixes I've seen in the forums. Nothing is working.
I have: Verizon HTC One M9, s-off, rooted, CM 13 (07/12/16). I put on this morning and all seems fine. Then I tried flashing the GApps nano package from https://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_himawl, which told me to go to: http://opengapps.org/?api=6.0&variant=nano. I first tried the ARM but it would not install so I tried the ARM-64. It Did install and Gapps seems to be working fine technically...but it keeps crashing (Meaning play store works). I keep getting an error that says "Unfortunately Google Play Services has stopped" and if I look at the dump it starts with "java.lang.securityexception" and location provider requires ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION permission, on the file com.google.android.gms.
Of course I tried enabling not just location but all the permissions and it has no effect.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Thank you very much.
Joe
FIXED:
What I did: First, I introduced a bunch of new variables at once which is not the best thing to do normally but I needed to get it done if possible. The basic theory was just "reinstall everything with a tweak."
1.) Use this to put TWRP and CM back on (ie. pretend like you're starting from scratch). Use the latest build of CM so it doesn't have to update.
2.) Every time you get a chance, delete the DVLIK cache and regular cache.
3.) As soon as CM is done installing, install the Gapps package right over top of it without rebooting. Kill the caches again. And yes I used the 64bit ARM version for the "HTC One M9 Verizon."
Reboot...and you should get the Google assistant. It seems like CM wanted that package at first-run possibly.
First, please forgive my lack of knowledge in this area and I truly thank you for taking the time to read my post. My problems were caused when an idiot friend of mine rooted my gpad 8.0 and went on a deleting spree. He totally removed anything with the name "google" as well as a host of other things I don't even know of. Here's my major issues...
1) All Google service including the play store app was deleted so I tried using the play store website which only says "no device found" or "you don't have any devices."
2) When I try adding any type of account to tablet I get box stating "Unfortunately unified EULA has stopped."
3) When I try opening files to help me fix the problem I only get a box reading "cannot open file" or "not supported."
I have done the factory reset and it does not help restore any of the removed items. Am I fighting a losing battle or or is there a way to put the google functions back into it?

All you have to do is install Gapps on your device.
There are many Gapps packages(Google apps) from basic to full function Gapps.
You can visit the opengapps website and download Gapps package you require and flash then using recovery.(assuming you have root and a custom recover installed)
Unlike others apps you cannot install Google apps from apk( apps like Google play store and play servics)
I'm pretty sure this will solve your problem
Please thank this post if this helps you my goal is to become the youngest senior developer on XDA.
Thank you, I should have mentioned there is no recovery installed on the tablet. In the days since I posted my question I did install Gapps but I haven't been able to do anything with it.

That's fine, then the safest way, is to install a stock recovery image of you stock OS. This will be available on your devise's forum. After acquiring the file, you'll need to reboot into Download Mode and install it.(there are different methods for different brands, you can surely find how to install a stock recovery,on your devise's forum.)
Please note that this will erase everything on your device, so consider taking a backup before restoring stock image. This WILL definitely fix it.
Hello everyone reading this!
I found out that no one really has a solution how to fix a broken play store. Many people are saying "reinstall it" or "factory reset your phone" but this wasn't really a solution for me.
Reinstalling only did it worse because then i kept getting a "Play store stopped working" popup so after a week of trying things i finally found the solution.
So if you don't have Play store anymore or it just stopped working then you should try this out!
First try these things and after that try the solution that is in green:
1. First uninstall substratum if you have it (it sometimes breaks the play store)
2. Try reinstalling the play store but get the apk from apkmirror because it's safe there and don't get the newest version. Get an little older version. I always take 13.x.xx. It has more success rate than 14.x.xx.
3. Try deleting dalvik cache
4. Try installing it as system by moving the apk to /system/app with the correct permissions (rw-r-r, root:root)
DON'T FORGET A NANDROID BACKUP IN THE GREEN SOLUTION!
I accidentally deleted my Play store and couldn't reinstall it. This was the only solution that worked for me. You CAN use it on a stock rom where play store and play services was preinstalled. It will still work.
FINAL SOLUTIONIf these 2 things didn't work then go to the opengapps site, download the gapps app and open it. It should automatically select the correct things for your phone. In the variant select "Pico" and press download. After that hit install and it should send you to your custom recovery and it should automatically install it. You are basically done.
I hope i could help anybody. I literally searched a week for an solution and there weren't any. So i am the first to introduce the new way to fix the play store.
