AT&T - Galaxy Tab S3 - SM-T825Y - LTE + Phone + SMS - Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 Questions & Answers

I recently picked up an SM-T825Y (international) and have been having a heck of a time getting AT&T to set this up because of the IMEI#.
Supported bands of device (added spaces to break link in domain):
w w w . f r e q u e n c y c h e c k . c o m /carrier-compatibility/N5BdsD/samsung-sm-t825y-galaxy-tab-s3-9-7-td-lte/at-t-united-states
My current cell is sitting on band 2 right now, so I know for sure there is a tower (here, and at range of the store) supporting the device in the LTE band.
Summary of issues: Cannot get Data through AT&T on an SM-T825Y.
Current Issues:
It won't connect to AT&T for data. The device shows up as a mobile network type of HSPA, but the mobile network state is always "disconnected". - When I reach out to AT&T they insist the device is broken.
When looking over the data on the SIM card it's registered the data network type of HSPA only.
----------------
I imagine I'm either giving them the wrong information, or trying to get some of their intro support staff to do something beyond their capabilities, or just misunderstanding the technologies in question, but has anyone ran into these issues before and what were the methods to getting a resolution?
edit: ignore +phone +sms on subject line

How odd, I picked up my tablet in May, popped my TMO sim in and everything worked perfectly.
Sent from my SM-T825Y using Tapatalk

I had the same problem when I tried to use my T825 from the UK on AT&T. When they scanned the IMEI bar code my Tab S3 in the store it showed up as a HSPA device and I couldn't get LTE. Someone I've worked with frequently at another AT&T store scanned the IMEI of a S8+ and my Tab S3 has worked fine since.

That might've been a similar issue to mine, actually.
Turns out the APN had a really whacky phone and ATT regards the S3 tab as a "tablet only" (which is weird because they can apparently put it in as a "cell phone" - NFC how they did that one hehe).
Short answer:
Change out the APN (settings -> Connections -> mobile networks -> Access point names) to the configured specs of the device type they have it set to (NXTGENPHONE or ATT Broadband):
h t t p s : / / w w w . a t t . c o m /esupport/article.html#!/wireless/KM1218306
fixed it up for me, at least.

Cannot connect to network

Hi guys, noob here, just got my first android phone (been with blackberry till now).
I got a chinese X12 dual sim phone because i really needed only 1 phone (had to carry around 2 of them).
Phone works great, only problem is with the mobile networks. It can connect to GSM networks but it won't connect to a 3G network. The phone has 3G capabilities, 3G is enabled for the required sim, it finds the 3G network but it will not connect to it.
Sim works fine, had it in a Samsung i900 on 3G (WCDMA) - i live in Europe.
The thing that surprises me most is that the phone came with android 4.0 instead of the 2.3.6 it was advertised, could this be the problem?
Data Enabled ?! have access points ?!

yes, data is enabled on it, as for the access points it has them too (althought i am only trying to connect to the voice network, not the data network)
Tried one more thing which is wierd: the phone works ok with another 3G sim from another provider, but with the other sim it doesn't connect (but it finds the actual network). And the sim that won't connect works on my old phone (the samsung i900)
The first sim that works on 3G on my new phone is from Vodafone (and they have both GSM and WCDMA in my country), while the other sim that doesn't work is from a provider that only has 3G (for both voice and data).
Quick update:
i found out i also get an "error" : invalid IMEI for both sims - it was this way when i first got the phone...
really strange thing with this phone, in settings > about > it says android version 4.0 but when it starts it has the honeycomb logo...
would appreciate any help, if it's from the missing imei's that would be good (or bad, depending on how hard is that to fix).
You can call ##778# to get into those settings. But be careful, those can really screw up your phone if your not careful.
The only reason i can think of, is if your phone only supports certain UMTS bands, while your operator is using different ones. Check out this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS_frequency_bands.
For example, my previous phone HTS Nexus One came in two versions - one for ATT(UMTS 850/1900/2100) and another for T-Mobile(UMTS AWS/900/2100). Both were GSM, both had 3G, but 3G would not work on another operator.

phone has only WCDMA 3G network - i tried it on different carriers (on 3G and not GSM) and it works fine, connects to 3G, it just won't connect to this specific network (although it finds the network there, so i guess it has the hardware to connect to it).
could this be from the lack of the IMEI ?
FIXED !!!!
Got it fixed, the problem was with the missing IMEI codes, put them back in, works like a charm.
I used the tutorial here:

Thanks for all the replies you guys.

LTE Support APN Question

I recently signed up for a LTE plan, and the frequency of my provider is supported by the phone. I signed up for the plan, and did a factory reset from the about phone menu to make sure everything was reset.
The phone starts up, and it automatically picks up the APN information from - somewhere, not sure where to be honest. To make sure it detects the LTE network, I changed Highest connection speed to 4G in Settings > Cellular
However, no matter where I am in the country, the signal indicator shows full bars and either H or H+, it doesn't show LTE or 4G - so I thought it could be that the APN information isn't correct.
On my phone under Settings > System there is an option called "access point"; this has a the two default APNs from my provider; but I can't seem to edit them; only switch between them. Long press on either one shows only "activate" as the menu option.
Under Settings > Cellular there is "add internet apn", but this is blank.
All this leads to the following questions:
1. How can I edit or check the settings of the default access points under "access point".
2. Filling in the information under "add internet apn" doesn't seem to change anything.
3. Is H+ the same as LTE/4G or something else?
4. Do I need an updated SIM? The company promoted LTE with the iPhone 5 and under the FAQs one of the answers is to get an updated SIM if LTE doesn't work.
All of this is moot as the Lumia 920 does not support the LTE frequency that Zain uses, which is 1800 MHz. The highest speed you will see is H+, an evolution of 3G.
There are two versions of the 920. The non AT&T version supports 1800.

So it does... I was looking on the Wiki site and it didn't show it, but it does here: http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_lumia_920-4967.php. Can you do a quick check in the ##3282 menu and see what bands are available for LTE on your particular device?
The problem was with the SIM. I went to the provider and I asked them to provide me a LTE SIM for the Lumia 920. Conversation went like this:
Me: "Hi, I have already activated LTE on my line, but I need a new micro sim"
Them: "Okay no problem but the iPhone 5 supports the nano SIM"
Me: "Yes, I know but I need a micro SIM because my phone is the Lumia"
Them: "Sorry we only support LTE on the iPhone 5".
Went to another branch
Me: "Hi, I need to replace my iPhone 5 SIM."
Them: "Certainly sir, the first replacement is free. What is the number?"
Then I went to a shop and got the nano to micro converter and now I have LTE on my Lumia. It shows up as "L" instead of "H+".
The iPhone 5 still manages to pull in a faster connection though, by a margin of 4 MB/s (using speed test at the same location, against the same server).

Great! Glad you were able to get it sorted. The SIM was going to be my next suggestion.

[Q] Verizon Moto E xt1528 Unlock LTE bands?

I snagged one of the $29 dollar Verizon Wireless Moto E LTE Model XT1528 and was wondering if anyone has been able to use any of the guides I have found on XDA for enabling GSM and LTE bands on the XT1528
It is on backorder and I won't get it until around June 22nd so I don't have the phone yet to try yet.
I didn't see a thread for this model so wanted to ask on the forum.
If you did get this to work, can you share the steps you took to accomplish it. I am planning on giving this to my wife to replace her original gen Moto G as she keeps running out of space on it due to not having a SD memory card. We are currently using Cricket Wireless for our Cell phone service. If I can turn on the necessary LTE bands for AT&T / Cricket this would be additional Icing on the cake for this sweet deal.
Thanks for any info you can share.

It's pretty much as described in the threads.
I removed the VZ sim, put in one of my other sims, got out of the VZ/moto setup, turned on wifi and downloaded one of the apps that let me change the radio bands to verify it was set for GSM/LTE, profit.
Nothing else was needed to get LTE on my Cricket (AT&T) or T-Mobile sims.

Upon switching to a different sim, did any of you guys experience the signal constantly changing from 4gLTE down to E or no signal or emergency calls only? happens to me quite often resulting in me always having to switch the cellular network from 4g to 2g, reboot, let it finish booting then change back to 4gLTE, then it is fine for a while(couple hours maybe), then falls back to E or no signal/emergency calls only again. annoys me quite a lot..
P.S. I'm on T-Mobile btw and I've provided a video file for exampleMoto E 2nd gen VZW on TMO with cellular network issue

Can't say I've had that happen, but then again, it's a backup phone for me, not my primary. I just tested it to see if it worked and went back to my main phone after that.
How long will it work normally before that happens? Does it do it with the wifi off?

Do all the custom ROMs support 4G on Moto E 2015

Hello to everyone,
I really feel terrible about this question, but I get confused about the following issue:
I didn't find anything about LTE not working on custom ROMs (though I did on USA versions of Moto E 2015). So I put my girlfriends SIM card (4G is active in that card) in my phone -running Mokee- and checked that the carrier had 4G in my town.
I switched on the phone and.... nothing, no LTE on the phone...
So I don't know exactly what to ask... Does the Moto E 2015 XT1524 with a custom ROM -Mokee- has LTE working? Is my carrier having some trouble in my town?
I hope somebody can throw some light here...
Thanks!

First of all, do you check there's the right APN configs on Settings > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names?

When I checked them, there were the ones that my gf had on her phone. Also, when I searched for carriers, there were 2, Movistar 4G and Vodafone 4G
Unfortunantley I didn't checked exactly the values of the APN. Do they affect when trying to register to a 4G network?
