swipe to shrink on 7.1.1 sucks - Moto Z Questions & Answers

Does anyone else struggle to get the "Swipe to shrink" to work? I get it 1 out of 5 tries. Wish someone would develop an app that you can place a shortcut on your home screen to activate it.

What you're holding is not an iPhone, friend.
So there is no way to change the function of the double tap on the key? Perhaps to something more useful as some probably have no use for the voice command system. Can anyone answer this? And yes I'm sure the op is aware that he or she does not hold an iPhone.
if this is a problem for you, an iphone is the better choice

maybe the iphone it is a better choice for the people who doesnt want to modify their OS and work with a fixed one instead of what their want in personal use.
long press for a ****ty multitask it is not the way to go, and with 3 keys 2 click on home is the faster way until we got a multitask like windows mobile 6.5 with taskfacade or something and a click on notification bar to use.

I whole-heartedly agree, and I actually have a hard time believing that your question was met with all those snarky comments from a forum dedicated to customizing the most customizable mobile OS on the planet.
I too would like to be able to change the default home double click behaviour. I'm sure it can be done, i just don't know how. Any ideas, people?

I'll give you a sensible response, as of yet, you can't change the double tap function on the S2. It may be customized in the future but so far you'll just have to live with the annoying voice control app.
I hope that helps
Thanks for the non-sarky response

Indeed it helps. Cheers!
I've seen an application called multitasking pro that supposedly opens with a double tap of the home button. But I guess it wouldn't work on S2 yet, huh?

I don't know, Install it and see, I doubt it will work though, I doubt it'll be able to override a stock Samsung app.

Wow, way to be an ass. Never heard of Quick Desk?
All the multitasking of the iPhone from double tap, but with the option to add widgets as well?
If that's not one upping the iPhone at it's own game then I don't know what is.
I for one know I'd rather have a multi tasking app than a voice search I'll never use.
Anyway, the closest i've found is http://android.modaco.com/content/s...odaco-com/340047/take-control-of-home-button/ but this is only working on KE2 as of the moment.
Guys, what I'd like is a long hold on the BACK button to bring up the multi-task menu, this would feel like less of an effort than the long press on HOME.

Screenshot?

How do we take a screen shot without swiping the screen? This gesture idea is horrible, and I always swipe the screen to the next view while doing so....
Any help?
Thanks

Hold home button and power together for a few seconds

You know that you don't have to swipe right-to-left, and that left-to-right works as well? Also going slower seems to help.
Couldn't see anything obvious (like a way to map the double-top-tap gesture) so I guess your only recourse is Play store and a 3rd party screen capture app.
Thanks.. The hold power and home works. I tried earlier but didn't hold long enough... Gs2 was quicker.. But it works.... Thanks.

Good to see you can still take screenshots the old way. Wasn't to keen on the swipe idea.

[Q] Close phone from lock screen??

I constantly open my phone to check the time, hit the home key one handed and look at time on lock screen. But now I'm holding my phone by the bottom right corner and have dropped the phone before while trying to reach up and press the side button to close... it's a pain.
Sure I can sit there and wait for timeout, or I can put it back in my pocket, in which case it might "swipe open" and be doing all kinds of things while in there.
Wouldn't it be cool to look at the time and just click something, like the home button again, or the 'back button' and have the phone close again??
Anyone know how?

Are you rooted? If so using the home or back button could be possible via smali edit. If your not rooted, I can write an app that will show a square (size determined by you) that will show on your lock screen. When you tap this square, it will shut off the screen, tapping and moving your finger on the square will move the square. Square is removed once unlocked.

You can reassign one of the capacitive keys (e.g. "back button") to turn the display off with an Xposed framework module. And there are legions of apps that do similar actions if you do a search.
Even better IMO is to use a lock screen app like Dynamic Notifications which can automatically show you the time when you pull it out of your pocket and automatically turn off the screen as you put it back in a pocket. Without pressing any keys at all. It does this by using the proximity sensor and it works very well indeed.

They may not be running xposed. Therefore an xposed module may not work. Secondly, all lock screen apps suck. Also, if it's using the proximity sensor to turn on the display from your pocket, it's draining additional battery.

All lock screens suck? Your objectivity is astounding. No subjective bias there whatever. The idea is to provide options to the OP, not cater to your idiosyncrasies.
The battery draw for the suggested app is tiny, much less than most apps that do not poll the proximity sensor and you have no idea if the OP may or may not wish to use an Xposed module.

No lockscreen app can provide the same amount of security as the default lockscreen. Therefore, it sucks. I can and have gotten around all popular lockscreen apps on the play store. Yes, the idea is to provide options to the OP, but make them good options and practical options.

Is there a way to get old multi window back?

So since 9.0 update broke multiwindow feature. I used it as long press on multitasking button for split screen. Is there an app or something to get it back without root?

Do this: tap on the app icon at the top of the app when you're in the recents screen, there is a split screen option there. Do me a favor though, try it and see how well it works. When I do it, the app only takes up a tiny bit of the screen at the top, I try to slide it down but it just slides back up. It is there but to me it seems buggy or at least difficult to use. Let me know
Update: I figured it out. You select to open one app in split screen, and then choose any other app and they will both share the screen.

Multi-Window is not broken in Android 9. All that happened with it (and other features, I don't have a full list readily available) was a change in how we use said features.
Someone else asked the same question recently. Thread below will be of help to you.

I know they changed it, but I should have explained it better. I wanted to know if there is a way to get as we had it on Oreo? On oreo, there was a way to assign long press of multitasking button to split-screen current app. And I want to know if I could get that back?

Checking the users manual for Android Pie for our phone's the only way to do app pairing now is via the Edge menu.
If you want other methods then you can refer to the thread I linked (someone posted an app suggestion for what your asking in the thread). Otherwise check the Google Play store and see if there is an app that will do the trick.

Sony UI - long press back to lock screen?

does the Sony UI have the "long press back button to screen lock"? like OnePlus or some roms? this is hands down the most used function on a phone for me.
double tapping status bar or any other shortcut isn't helpful.
I'm looking at the X1 mkii coming and may dump my G8x for it... if it has this function.
not being able to root these SD processors just totally sucks. need a solution. thank you.
