I just saw this YouTube video claiming that Samsung is releasing a software update including a camera change that would allow the phone to shoot in 4K at 60fps. Here's the video:
I don't know how legitimate this is. Someone in the comments claims it's impossible due to limitations in the SoC. Anyone know anything about this? Was that a typo in Samsung's website where it listed 4K 60fps on the Note 8 or is it actually coming?
If it is, I'm pretty pumped.
Yes, Some devs have enabled 4K 60fps on the Galaxy s8 with root. Don't see why this wasn't enabled out the box smh.
That's interesting. I hope they will release this "change" to all versions...
I'd love this if it were true. 4k 60fps is the only thing I'm jealous of the iPhone for. The pessimist in me says it's unlikely though otherwise surely one of the many phones out there with the same cpu as the note would've done it by now. I think the iPhone is capable of it due to the new Apple made codec etc which isn't available to the note. So I'd be surprised if it's true but will continue to hope it is!

Can be done for sure... If not by Samsung, Here on XDA with root

Could be too vulnerable to overheating.
According to specs SD 835 supports 4k @60 FPS and memory should be fast enough so it is absolutely possible, but there may be some limitation and file size of such video will be massive. I don't know why wasn't it included originally, but I'm not sure if I have anything capable of playing such video, except probably phone itself, which is not 4k anyway. BTW I've been recording 4k video on my Note 3 since 2013, way before Apple users even knew such a thing exist.

Oh that's great to hear that it's possible! I'm sure we'll get it then, either from Samsung or root/devs.
That would be a great smack in the face towards Apple - "oh there's one thing better about your upcoming phone? Here, let me update ours now so now nothing is better on your phone."
Actually I got it from here: https://www.dpreview.com/news/98163...apdragon-835-with-enhanced-camera-integration and I quote bellow:
"On the camera side of things the new integrated Qualcomm Spectra 180 ISP can manage image sensors with up to 32MP or 16MP dual-cams. It supports hybrid autofocus using laser, contrast, structured light and dual-phase detection methods. There is hardware-accelerated face-detection, and optical zoom and HDR video recording are supported as well. 4K video capture and playback are offered at 60 frames per second. "
But some other sources claim [email protected] record and [email protected] playback, so that article may have an error. Sorry
Yeah, Qualcomm's website says it maxes out at 30fps. The exynos can do up to 4k 120fps though but I don't think Samsung would fragment devices but releasing an update just for exynos. Shame.

we will wait and see, because there is update for N8 and it lists camera improvements and things like this really depend on codec as much as on hardware

Hey all! Looks like I'm switching from sprint where I currently have an Epic 4G (rooted) I'm not sure if I should get an Atrix or the Samsung Infuse?
If I root the Atrix can I use the Amazon Marketplace?
Do you all recommend the Atrix. Or something else? It looks like I'm pretty much bound to at&t. I'm sure gonna miss the slider keyboard on my epic

after you get used to the touchscreen, more than likely you won't miss your keyboard. the atrix rocks. unlock your bootloader first. and read the instructions thoroughly before you do. we don't need another 'i brick my atrix' thread.
oh yeah. amazon marketplace. there's an app for that. seriously.

I would definitely recommend the Atrix over the Infuse. The Infuse may have a bigger display with better colors, but in terms of specs the Atrix is more future proof being a dual core device with 1gb of ram. Look at one in person before you buy it though and make sure you're ok with a pentile display.
If you install the Gingerbread OTA, you dont even need to root since AT&T changed their sideloading policy. You should still root the phone, though. And unlock the bootloader. The blur based roms arent that bad, and if you can live without a camera this phone just flies with CM7.
My old phone had a hardware keyboard and I miss it. Try swype, it comes with the stock firmware. Its not as good, but its still better than most virtual keyboards.
Get the ATRIX. My single core xperia doesn't even come close. I have pics of two ROMS of my ATRIX in my album/photos section of my profile. Give it a look.

Agreed, just picked one up coming from VZW with a heavily modded HTC Incredible running CM7. Night and day difference in terms of performance (including the network!). I haven't even had to mod this yet, the stock Gingerbread ROM is great and I even enjoy Motoblur.. my first Android without Launcher Pro! I've rooted it, thats all.. once the guys @ CM (love you by the way) get the ROM fully functioning I'll make the switch.

Coming from my DInc (which has an 8MP camera, a great one at that), the Atrix's is just as good if not sharper despite being lower resolution. Here is an un-edited pic I snapped yesterday in a parking lot of my car for kicks.

For some reason people associate mega pixels with image quality. They're totally unrelated. MP's just let you crop more from the picture before it looks like pixelated garbage but it has nothing to do with sharpness, color, or anything else. Generally the more MP's you try to fit on the same CCD sensor the more horrible your pictures become due to the heat generated by the sensors being crammed so close and it's called picture noise

totaly true, just like lcd televisions there are 720p 40 inch tv,s put out a better picture then alot of 1080p 40 inch tv,s, so same story as the camera the bigger number doesnt neccesarily mean it will produce a better image
I think its currently the best phone in the market. My friend has been waiting for the bionic. but I love my Atrix since i bought it a few month ago. Camera/video camera quality is pretty good. I have recorded 720p and 1080p. quality is the same. 720 will do for now. I have had some complains about in-call voice volume that people cant hear me well but that happens once or twice a week. these are very small things to be worried about. I just cant wait for ATT to upgrade their HSPA so we can get full 4G.
Not sure if anyone else is experiencing or noticing this, or if it's just me, but the pictures produced by my HTC One are often soft around the edges while sharp in the middle and seem to have a fair bit of noise. Attached are sample images. I have not unlocked the bootloader, it is completely bone stock.

Not sure if just me or if my expectations of the camera were higher than they should have been.
The camera is one of questionable execution. 4mp bundled with a high quality image sensor capable of 13mp and image cpu. I would not be surprised if HTC releases a camera update that lets the end user choose above 4mp.
I'm still skeptical of the camera but this phone is the most powerful I've owned.

Try taking down Sharpness to -1 or -2.
yea same dmobile1337. i dont know if i have to change some setting or what. every time i take a picture, i notice lots of noise and when i zoom in a little, clarity is significantly gone. i know a 4mp cant have the same res as a higher mp camera but after reading that the htc one camera is short of amazing, i am now starting to wonder if i got a defective unit.
wrong section
and i think the camera is fine give the devs some time and its going to get lots better the default camera on the onex was great after some tweaks it was OMFG !!! good
The softness is the ois. If you read anandtechs review he points this out. Its a software bug I imagine HTC will fix.

It is kind of awkward for HTC to brand an "enhanced" 4mp camera for it's "epic" phone, but then again compare it to other phones on the prepaid side that are still stuck with 5mp cameras and run on decent hardware, the quality is noticeably better on the HTC one.
The unit is not defective, I doubt HTC would have left out the option to utilize a high quality 4mp mode with the ability to shoot in higher resolution.

The Camera is Beautiful take i assure you. i mean its not no SLR but still :good: this is a picture of the virgin Mary statue i have in my home
I've had the same problem. If I take a picture of something, the entire picture doesn't seem in focus. There's usually a corner of the picture that's blurry or soft and it's really aggravating me. After what all the reviews said about the camera I'm just not seeing anything to be impressed about. It's also really noisy like someone else said.

Yeah, camera feels not much better than my note 2 personally, but I wish I still had it so I could compare and find out, as it is I've just got a samsung focus flash to compare with, and of course that offers no real comparison.

That picture looks great! Tell me though, are you stock or running a custom rom? The international base is a later revision than stock ATT and I read somewhere when I was drunk (so I guess it might have been nothing but I remember reading it...) that HTC made some camera improvements later on. Makes me wonder if those are in the base that the international version is running, or that the lion's share of custom roms available to us are on.
Not trying to gripe, I love everything about this phone. In fact, it's such a great device that I expect it is something I am doing wrong or something that HTC has already fixed that hasn't trickled down yet.
I've been pleasantly surprised with the quality of pictures, particularly in daylight.

Just finished unlocking the bootloader, installing a recovery and getting AR HD installed. It was clearly a random software issue that not everyone is experiencing, and has been corrected. My camera seems better than ever at the moment. Thank you all!

They are probably busy compatibility testing their preloaded apps or making updates and tweaks of their own for performance. Or making sure that if you use one of their preloaded apps on the new build it doesn't brick the device or something horribly sinister like that. I am an instant gratification type, but working in corporate america taught me that software updates are far from an overnight thing. I wish it had come out closer to release so I didn't have to install a custom ROM but I am sincerely glad I took the time to do so. Back button hold for menu is a real life saver in some apps and the camera improvements are worth it as well. If you choose to wait and keep stock, good things are right around the corner.

Interesting. It would've been nice with a few shots from 257 and 290 so we could compare them side by side, but that's pretty hard to do unless someone takes a photo of something, upgrade and take the same photo again.

It's the default settings in the new '.290 ROM superior auto camera mode' if you want to change it back to 8MP then switch to manual mode.
So was the camera really much better in the older ROMs? The pictures i get from 290, regardless of which camera app I use seem to be too "soft.."
Advice please, don't know which to go for, I know the battery and screen are probably better on the LG G2 but camera is important to me and I'm worried about the known framerate and focus issues and problems with lowlight pictures and videos on the LG G2.
So what would you recommend i do?
Thanks.

Hm. Camera.. Let the others tell you but for me..LG G2 has some of the worst cameras out there.
S3 camera is superior to G2 camera (softare perhaps..). S4 is also better than G2.
Speed, battery etc etc... is on the side from LG G2 .
I hope the camera would behave better when and if they update the software ( camera software ..? )

Afraid I agree with Bender. We have both G2 and S4 in the house. In every other way, G2 is king.
But Camera/Video my friend, goes to the S4.
Easily.
G2 ranges wildly from meh to very good. S4 stays at excellent all the time.

Yes, it's weird. G2 surprises how bad it can take pictures to how good it can take pictures. I'll upload some 12 megs pictures taken with it.

I have the G2 also as a secondary device ... Battery and speed are amazing but camera I believe its a hit and miss .. Sometimes I find them way overexposed. My wife has my old S4 and I believe its way better than the G2.
The G2 was running a stock G2 ROM not an AOSP ROM in case you are wondering.
With the mods on my N5 camera I've seen better quality pics in my N5 than my G2

please download and zoom in , what do you see ?
G2 camera software is a mess.
HDR mode is not supporting flash. Video recording don't have manual focus or not even focus lock which makes focusing difficult in low light situations.
It took some time foe me to adjust which setting and mode for what lighting situation. After sometime, I got used to it and now my pictures are great in all scenarios. BUT, the shutter speed is less comparing to HTC ONE and S4. So, you need steady hands.
For an overall best USABLE camera in almost all situations especially low light, it's the HTC ONE. Then comes S4.

Have any of you tried other camera apps like ProCapture to see if that makes a difference?

LG G2 has some of the worst cameras out there.
S3 camera is superior to G2 camera (softare perhaps..). S4 is also better than G2.

You got iA mode for better results, do you use it? In fact in SGS4 this Intelligent Auto mode is used by default thats the only difference i think

Dynamic tone mode is for you. Nexus 5 got HDR+ mode which is essentially same as dynamic tone on G2

No, it DOES have manual focus, you tap on screen and it focuses
I bought a point and shoot camera, just sayin' the G2 takes great pictures in good lighting conditions.

It's not manual focus my friend. It's touch focus and its Auto. Check in photo mode for manual focus slider.

that gotta be the biggest joke. S3 had a very average camera even for it's days.
this thread should be taken with a huge grain of salt. G2 camera combined with Xdabbeb's mod (considering you understand the basics of photography) is the best phone camera experience you can get aside from few Nokia phones.

Besides the head, the left and the right side of cat look blurry. A little bit.
I OWN a Sony Xperia z3+ dual and never appreciated it till I bought this phone, despite mixed reviews on the Sony, the camera on it is miles ahead of the Galaxy A5 2017. It's a shame, this Phones ticks a lot of boxes. It's great to hold, a "battery beast" all day battery with a lot of surfing, nice screen, after my personal set up complete nice to use. I put on two camera apps that take better pics and add stabilization which for some reason is missing, open camera and camera MX
It's an 8/10 phone and would be a 9.5/10 if Samsung updates camera
Same, most of the time my photos captured from the stock camera is blurred so I use open camera which really stabilizes the shot but takes a little longer to capture a photo.
Just got my A5.17, is this "Open Camera" the one by Mark Harman?
After a week I found 3 camera apps that work better, best all around is open camera I set the stabilization for video and its pretty good, next is camera mx followed by camera fv-5, all seem decent. I found out that since this flashed UAE firmware that Samsung pay does not work but Android pay installs. Don't care too much since I do not like paying with phone except Starbucks. The battery is a beast and I'm getting over 10hours with continuous surfing and use. The screen is nice and bright, no real lagging with my use, hot spot works great. Swift key works as native on it.
Pretty happy overall.

No matter the Camera program the video shakes, why would samsung make such a great phone with a major flaw? I'M at a loss on this, flaming exploding phones and now phones that cannot shoot decent video. My Sony z3+ shoots nice and jitter free video, this phone has beautiful video that jitters no matter how still you hold it, even on hard surfaces. It can produce decent pictures

New topic on use here crashes, this thing crashes more than Windows Vista did. My Sony Z3 + dual is my comparison on marshmallow and with same apps no crashing, what's different? Has to be the TouchWiz software, I am beginning to believe it's crap

I do not have samsung pay app on phone and I'm wondering if it's because the firmware is UAE

OK still experiencing problems with Crashes and restarts, its random, but it does seem worse when I'm Hot spotting, I need the hot spot since it will be internet source for the next 1.5 to 2 years
I'm wondering what is happening? My sony Z3+ with Marshmallow and same apps does not do this at all... could it be something with the Samsung software?
Open Camera is great.
What about AnTuTu scores.
I bought the A5 2 weeks ago. So far so good, battery is so amazing that I can use this phone 1,5 days on normal usage without charge. :good:
Tried so many big games and no lags on it. Very smooth
I hope this phone will get android nougat soon!
