So I was trying to update my old energy ROM to ICS and I'm kind of hosed. Got instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362759
Basically:
- Root your device
- Install a custom recovery
- Install the downloaded ROM .zip found in post #3
- Make sure to do a Factory Reset / Wipe before installing ROM
For the record, these steps are out of order. Steps 4 and 3 are switched and I didn't notice till it was to late. What I did next was do the factory reset and then try to re-install the ROM. Everything seemed to go fine until it was time for a reboot. Then it froze on the HTC logo.
Could use some ideas as to what my next move should be. Since it was a previous version of Energy ROM + Faux kernel, phone is definitely rooted, etc. Perhaps I should start over with a stock Gingerbread ROM?

Apparently I am also supposed to flash the kernel as per this thread which I've finally found:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1645641
In order to find it, I had to search for it using Google as this forum software is so haphazard. Also not mentioned in the instructions. Will try this next if I can get at it through just the custom recovery.
Still wrong. Coming from GB and going to ICS you need to flash the ICS RUU in bootloader. I don't know how many times its been mentioned or how many other threads have been started because of this issue.

First im not resbonsible for anything that can happen to your phone this what i do if it didnt work im not resbonsible.
If you are rooted via HTCDev S-On Hboot 1.490018 and up you need to Run a command prompt and flash the boot.IMG that comes with the ROM (if not included extract the ROM and search for its in the .Zip file then move that file into a folder in the Root lf ur C Drive put your phone into fastboot mode (remove battery then put it back then press lock/on button and the volume up button at the same time) then connect it to your PC and run command prompt press on start and search for cmd then run it and type the following :
Cd c:\android (or whatever you named the folder)
After that type:
Fastboot flash boot boot.IMG
After its done unplug your phone from ur PC reboot it and it should work perfectly (it may stay at the HTC Logo for 10-20 minutes)
HOPE IT WORKS ENJOY!

Awesome. Thanks for the tip. Will see what I can make of it.
I notice that there is a file, PH85IMG.zip in the same directory as the modded ROM. The name isn't very descriptive. Clue?

I don't want to put down energy rom, but it hasn't been updated since the original leak, and the instructions were never clarified - he simply never explained the PROPER way to switch from gingerbread to ICS. ARHD gives a better explanation, but I think post #2 in the everything ICS thread gives the best and links to everything you should need..
You have to be careful anytime you are switching to a totally new OS. All the devices I know, switching from 2.1 to 2.2, or 2.2 to 2.3.. or to 4.0+.. it is USUALLY not just a "flash over the old OS".. just something to keep in mind for any of your other or future devices..

Well as far as I know, it ain't like he is getting paid much so it would seem to be a miracle if any of this stuff gets updated. ;-) If I don't have this figured out by Tuesday, I'll use it as an excuse to get a new phone. This one has a crack or two in the screen anyways.
Still, even so I would MUCH rather get this one working again. 'specially since I'm between software gigs & cash is tight. If Energy ROM hasn't been updated and there's a better and/or more complete set of instructions maybe I should be looking at something else. Will continue hunting through these forums for info but can use all the help I can get since this forum software ain't exactly friendly. Probably best to see if I can get it back to stock on ICS and then work forward from there. Having said that, I have an RUU that I am working with, its: PH85IMG_RUBY_ICS_35_S_TMOUS_2.14.531.3_Radio_1.14.550L.17DC_30.78.550L.15_release_259626_signed.zip
Tried just flashing it but apparently there's more to it than that.
Latest problem is that I can't get it re-locked without enabling USB debugging. Can't do this since I don't have a working OS. Can it be done from CLI or recovery?
Uh.... hmmm... mysterious. Seems to have fixed itself. Will try a restart and see what happens.

I was saying that there are some other options, other roms, that have better instructions and have been updated fairly well.. that is all.
The thread I was talking about by glacierguy is here - it links to tons of resources and should answer most questions you may come up with. For example it has "Relock phone (fastboot oem lock)" you can issue fastboot commands while your phone is booted into the bootloader - so this has nothing to do with usb debugging..
There is tons of information here, I know it isn't absolutely organized, but there are a lot of guys here who tried to make the information as easy to find as possible..
Did u try to restart it again it usually takes a couple of times but anyway should either return to stock or use the RUU for the ICS ROM

If you want cutting edge(these both have features no other rom has added yet, and are very current update wise) and like the senseui, try remix's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1673609 or if you want with less sense and more of an aosp-ish feel go for his http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1623184
ARHD is what is being used for the base for many roms because it is solid and bugless, energy has more features that he had included in his gingerbread rom.. I've heard good things about capromce, but I have no idea what features he has added that are or aren't included in the others..
Heheheh and its not my first language thats why you might see a lot of grammar and/or writen mistakes, just for the futur before you flash any new ROM Back-Up you current or the original ROM just in case something like this happen so you can restsore it without worrying and hope i helped

Hello,
I am unable to post in the Developement threads at the moment due to the post limit but thought I would ask here and hopefully someone can help me.
Firstly, I have a Locked BootLoader that cannot be unlocked, I have rooted my XS and it is running ICS, I pretty much have it the way I want it but would like to try the MIUI ROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1768057 which works for all BootLoaders.
Secondly, I need to know if I will lose Root access by flashing the above ROM and also if I will lose all my personal Data. I have CWM installed and have backed up everything it will alow me to back up. But I am just concerned about losing root access and personal data.
For those of you who have flashed the ROM, can you tell me if root access is removed and if personal data is also wiped?
Thank you in advance and I appreciate all answers.
Personal data like pics, music and movie will not be lost if they are on the ext sd card.
Root should stay, but all apps that you install will be wiped so you need to download again from play store and make a backup for contacts and sms.

Would backing up via CWM not be advisable, just backup using the Sony PC Companion or the Backup and Restore utility on the phone itself, should I just use them all to be sure?
Thank you for the reply, much appreciated.
Allow me to add, all Media files are on the additional storage of the phone, the 32gb, I am just worried about SMS, Contacts and so on.
Also, with the above mentioned ROM, are there any limitations as to what apps would run, for instance, ICS compatible apps I previously purchased should have no issue?
Forgive my ignorance, I am not so familiar with Android.

Any chance you could point me in the right direction?
I originally used the method outlined by Sharaz22 to root my XS, downgrading to GB and flashing several things, but that is the only thing I have read on the subject of rooting a locked bootloader and to get it up to ICS rooted, I have not read about any special method for MIUI to maintain root access, even in the thread I linked above I could not see a work around, unless I am going blind.
Again, thank you and your help is appreciated.

You will never lose root if you install roms with cwm,you will lose it only if the rom are buggy but not in case of miui.

Okay, this is making sense to me now, so I just need to place the files into the suggested directory and reboot into CWM and flash MIUI throught there. Obviously following the instructions in the original thread and all should be fine, root access will not be lost and I can restore backed up content such as SMS and contacts without any fuss?
Thanks guys, that is great. :good:

I lost both when I flashed MIUI. I still had root, but not CWM. For locked bootloaders, the CWM is installed in the /system partition. When you flash MIUI, all of the files in that partition are changed, so you lose it. You can either reflash CWM like you did the first time or you can use this method (I forgot I had the link): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1787532

Sorry GM, one final question.
What is the difference between the one you linked and the one in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1793432
I notice Sharaz22 states he removed the Kernel so it would work with the stock Kernel, now I have the stock Kernel since I installed a stock ICS so what problems would I face if I went with the official one and not the one Sharaz22 "edited"?

Nope. Flash ROM with CWM, wipe what you have to wipe, and before rebooting, flash the CWM package (no need for the Superuser one)
Guys, I suffered some mishap yesterday trying to flash MIUI on my phone.
After the flashing process with CWM, the phone would not boot, no response other than a single flash of the green LED and a vibration, it would not boot and i tried for over an hour. In the end I had to use Flashtools and get ICS back on the phone.
Since that, I cannot root my phone again, I have tried and tried, the first time I did it, it was easy and straight forward, downgrading to GB and using the batch files and so on, but now, each and every time I try to do it and follow the guides, of which I have found two, it does not work. That is because the process states that the "Device is not detected" and it cannot locate anything related to ADB. I have checked the drivers, installed several, reinstalled flashtools and each time I go through the guide I am left with an unrooted phone and nothing seems to work. Even in flashtools it struggles to flash the ROM every now and then and the phone just seems to randomly disconnect even though it remains plugged in.
Any help, I am struggling to get anything done on this phone and I would rather just have Root and CWM than MIUI.

nice one fella:victory:
Hi all,
Marshmallow is giving me all sorts of problems, but the major one is that people can't hear me while on the phone after the latest OTA update. Battery life was also significantly better on LP, and the phone felt snappier in general than it does on MM, so I would like to go back.
My phone was sold in Norway and was not locked to a carrier, but I have no idea which ROM version is used - I assume Nordic Combined.
I have been able to download 32.0.A.6.200 Customized SG and Customized AU, but the R*G numbers are different from the one available for Nordic Combined - does this make a difference? Can I use one or the other of the ones I already have downloaded and just make things work?
If I need the Nordic Combined Customized NOBA version, I'd be delighted if someone has a copy stored somewhere and would be willing to offer a download link.
Thanks in advance.

Hey guys, found this thread through google. Is this the official Z5C 32.0.A.6.200 version? I'm looking to upgrade to last lollipop before MM and this is what I found. I also would like the Nordic one but I want the stock rom so that I can just upgrade like it was an OTA. I don't need any add ons or root or anything like that. Have I come to the right place?

Hi Anthraxiousness,
Did you follow the guide on xperiablog, linked to above, in full? Have you installed all of the drivers as described there? And have you enabled 'USB debugging' on your phone? IIRC you must enable developer mode on your phone by tapping 'build number' 7 times in the 'about phone' settings. USB debugging is then available under 'developer mode' settings.

Hey, yes of course. One thing that stood out was when I installed Z5C drivers from flashtools. One of the Sony ones had a message "Not needed (no device connected)" or something. I tried twice but same nessage. Still ticked green tho. Could that be it?
Everything else was just as the guide said.
EDIT: Here's the one driver that didn't install:
Sony Net (03/19/2015 6.0.6000.16511) Not needed (No device for update present)
As I said, it was still ticked green alongside the other Z5C driver. Also installed Flashmode and Fastmode drivers.

According to this the device should be in flash mode and LED should be green. Mine stays orange (like it's just charging) and it says "Safe Mode" on the bottom left of the screen. How do I get into flash mode if not with Vol Down + USB? Tried several times but same result. Is there something that needs to be enabled in the phone?
Yes, you should enable 'USB Debugging' under Developer options

Okay, finally getting around to doing this after the phone was in for service after the microphone problem got worse and worse, to the point where nobody could hear me.
So, do I add everything from the .7z file into the .ftf I create in Flashtool, or should I exclude the .ta files?

Exclude the ta files.
Flashed 32.0.A.6.200 and it's working, woho!
Thanks to all who piped in, much appreciated.
Now to find a way to get the latest updates for 6.200, but not get the MM update notice back...
EDIT: The problem is fixed, the problem was my dead SD card, as soon as I took it out and boot into TWRP the recovery has been working well. Thank you all for your help anyways.
What's going on guys, today I'm in need of some aid. Couple days ago I was trying to swap ROMs from PsyRom to FlyMeOS and when I tried to access TWRP recovery, it would get stuck on the TeamWin logo. I softbricked my phone by restoring the stock recovery and kernel (lol) and flashed the latest Fastboot ROM. Now I'm fine with MIUI8, and I flashed TRWP again (with Fastboot flash) but everytime I try to access TRWP it gives me that stuck logo or a black screen. I don't know what to do because I already tried with a rooted Dev ROM and flashify and even the TWRP Manager but I can't get anywhere. Do you know what I can do?
I've seen several TWRP versions for RN2.
Did you try with the official one?

Yes I did, and with the 2.8.7, and the other 3.0.x
Always the same result. Did Xiaomi lock the Redmi Note 2 bootloader?

AFAIK the bootloader is not locked.
Otherwise I think that you can't even install TWRP.
I any case, I would try with an older fastboot ROM and with the official TWRP.
Have you tried this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-2/general/twrp2-8-7-0-light-materialized-theme-t3308492

Yes, it's the last one I tried, I used the one on the first link, with MIUI8 compatibility.

I have no problem with it (MIUI8). To be honest, I don't think any of them should cause the problem that you are having. Trying to solve the problem without identifying the cause will probably prove unfruitful. How did you install the first one that you had problems with? Did it ever work at all? If so, when did it start malfunctioning?

Yes it used to work, I already tried a lot of ROMs, I had the one compatible with Android 6.0 which I flashed with TWRP itself (It worked since I flashed CM13 with it).
I don't really know when it started malfunctioning because the last time I made a backup was at least one month ago when I swapped to PsyRom (it was functioning well). But two days ago when I tried to access it to change to FlyMe it wouldn't work. Anyways I'm flashing a MIUI7 fastboot ROM to see if it works.
I'm sorry if I can't explain myself very well but I'm doing the best I can lol. Thank you for your help too.
Perhaps something messed up your file system or partitions. If all attempts don't work, then you might want to use the SP Flash Tool to flash a compatible ROM and working TWRP.

I just flashed MIUI 7 with SP Flash Tool. Gonna try and flash TWRP through fastboot and with update.zip method, see if anything works.

I should have a MIUI7 on my mega account, it should be the last 7 stable, saved just in case something was wrong with 8.
I can send you the link if you are still searching.
OK, I just noticed that you have solved yet.
Good, I hope that this time everything will be fine.

Hello, after one month the issue is still not fixed, the recovery still hangs. Perhaps you could send me that fastboot rom you talked about please? Thank you.
I'm going to send you the link.
In the meanwhile...reading the thread again...what is "update.zip method"?
Are you try to install TWRP from Mi recovery?
This is not going to work anymore.
You should better stay with the last ROM and flash TWRP from fastboot.
This is the recovery image: https://dl.twrp.me/hermes/twrp-3.0.2-0-hermes.img
This is the guide: https://twrp.me/devices/xiaomiredminote2.html
Just start your RN2 into fastboot (vol down+power on), run fastboot flash recovery twrp.img and finally keep pressed vol up and send fastboot reboot and wait with the key pressed until it enter TWRP.
BTW:
in the official forum there should be a thread with link to all officially released ROMs for RN2.

The problem is I already tried the fastboot method as well, and the problem is always the same, stuck TWRP logo. Even if it was a partition problem, flashing the fastboot ROM should fix it, but it didn't. I tried the SP Flash Tools method too, and the flashing methods are successful, they all Flash TWRP, but when I try to access it it's stuck. I don't know why this is happening, it used to work.
@kiko9895 Sounds like you have screwed your partitions. You will need to load a full ROM using SP Tools to correct it as this is the only way to set the partitions back at their correct memory locations. Fastboot and Recovery rewrite the partitions by name not memory location so any fault in that will never be fixed. If you have flashed an Android 6.0 based ROM or something intended for another model phone, this will definitely be the case. Anyone flashing custom ROMs should first gather the skills and tools to recover from disasters - luckily, MTK based phones are virtually unbrickable!
As far as the "official" TWRP goes, it is not official and not a good version. It is just someone who has used the TWRP build server to knock out a random version. How does that make it "official"?

Ahah I have the skills and the tools, I've been flashing ROMs for more than two years. This never happened before. If you read what I said before on this thread, you'll see that I already flashed a new ROM through SP Flash Tools. And yes I flashed a 6.0 rom before so that must be the problem, but since I already flashed a fastboot rom through SP Flash Tools I can't see where the problem is. The partitions should be fixed by now but that isn't the case.
@kiko9895 Sorry if it sounded like I was coming down hard on you. You should only need to flash a matching preloader, uboot, logo plus TWRP recovery using SP Flash Tools with the correct scatter file to get back into booting to TWRP. Any other problems can be sorted from there.
I will attach a known good scatter file because I know there are several floating around that will reverse one or two partitions on you (such as the RN3 version)

Seems like you need to install a new rom on your phone. Do you have a custom recovery? If yes, what recovery do you have?
I can give you a new rom and instructions on how to install it, but you will need CWM or TWRP for that.
Cheers,
Kuba P.

You need to do some research before you make things worse. You will have to have a pc. Then it is a simple matter of flashing the device which will wipe it completely.

Watch these YouTube video. You get flashing procedure in SP flash tool and download link of stock rom in video description.
You need SP flash tool to flash your android.
Download from here
Sorry for saying this , but you should be aware that Rooting a device has its own ups and down/
You should have researched more and must have had a custom recovery incase things go awry.
Now that things have gone bad , the only option you have is flash a rom for your device using SP Flash Tool.
Google for your phone model and download firmware and flash the rom
If you have any trouble finding a rom or flashing it , please feel to contact me.
